So i love making ocs, and i love the pokemon world, and recently, @prof-peach​ has been supercharging both those interest with her amazing content and openness to ocs. So here’s my first attempt: Ms. Manchineel

ROLE: Manchineel is a poison type specialist with a masters in toxicology, who studies different types of natural toxins and the ways they effect Pokémon and people. She uses her knowledge to study possible cures, antidotes and treatments, as well as simply for the sake of knowing more about how these substances come into play in the wild and domestic lives of Pokémon. I have no idea whether prof peach and prof grey have use for a toxicologist, but i imagine that if she worked on the island she’d do so mostly in a lab. She could probably also be seen collecting samples in the greenhouse or in the forest. On rare occasions, she probably responds to poison related incidents, as she has first aid knowledge and knows well how to identify the symptoms of different toxins. 

 BACKROUND: Manchineel is in her late 40s, and lived most of her life in Unova. She’s also an ex-con, who spent upwards of 20 years in prison, on charges of battery-assault with a deadly weapon. (i have two possible stories for exactly what happened, but basically she beat someone with wrench a after witnessing them commit Pokémon abuse.)  This happened in her very early twenties, before she could finish her doctorate. Now she’s out, and looking to either get employed or get into a doctorate program, both of which she’s finding very difficult. before her arrest, she was known for being hot-headed, but a passionate student who loved working with plants and Pokémon and excelled in her field. She had been working as an intern at a clinic lab when the incident happened.  Personality/description: Manchineel is generally laid back woman with an even temperament. She can be a bit sardonic, and has a dry sense of humor. She can be kind of awkward with people she doesn’t know, being polite but curt and generally seeming like she’s trying to cut the interaction short. Otherwise, she’s agreeable, somewhat teasing, and receptive. She especially loves having conversations with people about their interests or experiences, and is always down to hear an expert ramble about their field. Oh, and she *will* make up random ridiculous stories about prison when asked about it, and will not confirm or deny whether they are true.  Pokemon:            

These are her personal mons, registered to her team. Most of them help her around the lab and keep her company when she goes out for field work. While she no doubt works with a lot of poison types in the lab and around the island, these are the ones who are with her permanently.  Darts: darts is a lax toxicroak variant that's a little more based on poison dart frogs. She’s one of Manchineel’s strongest Pokémon, and can often be seen lounging around the lab. She does in fact like dartboards, and uses them both to practice her own attacks and just throwing regular darts. She’s not very aggressive, and gets along with most Pokémon, though she can be somewhat smug. Chico: Chico is an impish salandit variant that has some more iguana like characteristics. He is always around Manchineel, either at her feet or draped over her shoulders. Often times he will whine and make grabby hands when he wants to be let up. He also licks peoples ankles in order to freak them out, and occasionally knocks things over. he likes to play, steals things and hide them, and eat. However, when it is lab time, and Manchineel needs his help, he suddenly turns on serious mode, and becomes much more well behaved.  S.V.: S.V. is an old audiono that Manchineel got through an inmate-pokemon program. From then on, S.V. became one of her closest companions, and pretty much her therapy Pokémon. When Manchineel got out, S.V. insisted on coming with her, and now she looks after Mani, her team and the lab.  Apricot: apricot is a sweet little paras, who’s kept around because of the usefulness of their aromatherapy. He helps lots in the lab, and in the gardens, enjoying the act of tending to and defending little plants. He also hangs around S.V., often seen scuttling beside her. 

Petalo: Petalo is a lileep and a fairly new addition to Manchineel’s team. She’s almost entirely a lab mon that spends her time either in a tank or rooted in a wide dish of moist rocks by the door. Manchineel often takes samples of Petalo’s acid. 

Manchineel loves her pokemon and loves working with them, even when they’re being somewhat of a nuisance. She keeps their pokeballs on her, just incase, but most of the time their out and about. One thing she usually makes time to do is dinner, where her team piles onto counters and chairs while she makes food for them and herself. It’s something she started after noticing that they all seemed to like to watch her cook.

All in all, Manchineel would be very happy on the island, and very, very grateful to those who accepted her in and let her stay. She’d try her best to be as helpful and diligent as possible, while hiding exactly how anxious she is to make a good impression.

Thinking about this post by @mistermiraclles which is correct, but also I have further thoughts that I might as well make my post on rather than derailing theirs with my own overly-baroque ramble.

Now, while my main bugbear issue is the way The Bad Shit (Pedoshit, incest, bestiality) is such a fucking Thing in the Ao3-era of fandom rather than race, I think the sources of both problems result from a similar core.

Namely, the annals of “transformative” fandom are repeating the exact same fucking mistakes that “curative” fandom did.

Like, the lazzez-faire zero-moderation “free speech” absolutism that lead to the horrors of Gamergate, afraid of chilling effects except for the bigotry that chilled the souls those marginalized within its walls, the culture-war-driven fear of the other that crushed self-reflection that they did not know they were eating themselves until it was too late, the uncritical regurgitation of tropes until they became the vile roots of a diabolic manchineel of bad shit ,

These are all things I have seen before, and I am seeing them again. The nightmare repeating.

I used to think that the pedoshit of the anti-antis would result in the “transformative”-fandom-equivalent to Gamergate, but the more I see on it and the more I think on it it is their racism that’s going to cause it due to how it utterly mirrors the bigoted outgroup/ingroup dynamics growing in other fandoms

Like, I will say it here and say it now Racefail II will be the Gamergate of the Ao3-era of fandom, a vast Hobbseyan Leviathan eating its own tail, unless we do something about it.

Sometimes I wonder what the hell pissed the Manchineel Tree off so much that years of evolution would make it as toxic as it is, and then I realize that I really don't want to know.

cackles Your wish is my command New York when he was New Amsterdam was definitely left alone a lot as a child. Had to fend for himself a lot, which is why when the British took over he really did not want to fight for the dutch because of this. However being handed over to Britain really did a number on him because a) he honestly thought that the Dutch Empire would at least fight for him to show that he at least cared. (he did not) b) his mother (Lenni Lenape) and sister (New Netherlands) was killed by Britain c) His half brother (New Sweden: now Delaware), and brothers (New Jersey) were separated from him. -All of this lead to a fear of abandonment and not being good enough to the point one can easily discard him (ex: The dutch gave up Ny for an island of nutmeg) -Then the Dutch yoinked him back, renamed him New Orange for a bit, and then was yoinked back by the British. (making  New York think the British were better than the Dutch because at least they quickly got him back and cared. Oh boy he could not be more wrong) Anyways! Under the control of Britain, he was treated as the prize colony and was forced into perfection. His undiagnosed autism made everything worse as well. Even then he was really manipulated into thinking the harder he worked the safer he would be. This mindset caused him to become distant with the others. Britain often treated him a bit better than the others just to make sure that NY wouldn't try anything. Then his wings came in and tail. (there was an unofficial official flag for a regiment in ny with a bald eagle on it. There was also a flag flown by ships with a beaver). This made Britain even more obsessed with NY causing NY to go to dangerous extremes just to try to fit this impossible mold Britain set up. Now moving on to the revolutionary war. York was very much against the thought of going against Britain because of how “well” he was treated. Mmm yes manipulation. But this view of Britain being amazing was shattered during the Quartering act of 1765 cause New York did not agree to this which led to the New York Restraining act. This started to chip away at the thought Britain was a saint and made New York question why he was trying so hard to prove himself. Even then it took a large amount of convincing by the others to get New York to revolt. When they did though, shit went down. The Battle of Long Island saw the complete and utter failure of the continental army, causing New York City to fall under British occupation. New York was captured during this and uh.. Britain did not take kindly to his prized colony revolting. Martial Law was set in the city after a fire burned much of it, causing New York to feel nothing but a burning sensation of the fire. Martial Law also allowed Britain to control and manipulate New York more, causing his memories to become fuzzy and to always agree with Britain. York was manipulated into thinking that the punishment he was receiving was justified, that he needed to atone for his mistakes, that Britain would “fix him”. All of this caused him to have eating disorders, insomnia, and survivor's guilt. At the end of the war York was just a husk of what he was. Still under Martial Law, he could hardly feel anything.

Then the end of the war came. Britain knew he had to give up New York and he was enraged by this. So of course New York was hurt immensely before his release. York had wings.. He had wings. Before Britain released him, Britain chopped them off in a hissy fit. York almost died then. So when he was returned he hardly felt any joy in being release because the other were free... he was not, he would be stuck on the ground his entire life. Have memory issues for a long time, ptsd, and survivors guilt. Have trouble eating and sleeping from the trauma, and hardly trust anyone because the others said he'd be safe during the war. He was not. He was scarred.
