Im a little mead tispsy rn but Im up thinking about jedi/mandalorian parallels. Theyre ancient enemies. One has foundlings, the other has younglings (both taken in from their original families). Both are in a sense warrior cultures with great power, but one is focused on nonviolence sometimes to the point of apathy and cruelty, and in the other, you kill for your family. The fucking darksaber (antithesis to the jedi weapon) dictates the ruler of mandalorians. The way the jedi are called knights but the mandos are the ones with suits of armor. The star wars universe never canonically delves into any of this and it keeps me up at night.

The Return…Of Boba Fett's Armor! - The Mandalorian: Chapter 14 (Season 2 Episode 6)
(❤️ this scene & dialogue)
Din Djarin: (Approaching Boba & Fennec) This is all that survived…(Shows them his Beskar spear) Boba Fett: (Instantly recognizing what the spear is made of) Beskar. Din Djarin: (Nods yes) Boba Fett: I want you to take a look at something….
Boba Fett: (Raises his left gauntlet & activates its holographic data read-out display. Looking at the holographic data, which is written in Mando'a….) Boba Fett: My chain code has been encoded in this armor for 25 years. (Indicating hologram) See, this is me…Boba Fett. Boba Fett: (Points at one holographic symbol) This is my father, Jango Fett. (Looks up from the display at Din Djarin)
Din Djarin: (Considering Boba's words, observing the display Boba has just shown him & hearing the name of Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Jango Fett….) Din Djarin: (Din immediately understands why this man has claimed the Mandalorian armor he is now wearing) Your father was a foundling.
Boba Fett: Yes. (Deactivates the display) He even fought in the Mandalorian Civil Wars. Din Djarin: Then that armor belongs to you. Boba Fett: (Nods yes) I appreciate it's return….
THIS scene confirmed SO much: *IS Jango a Mandalorian? YES! *DOES Boba read/understand Mando'a? Uh-huh! *DOES Boba Know his Mandalorian Heritage? Yup! *AFTER All of these years is Boba FINALLY shown on screen being a bad-a$$ with & without his Mandalorian Armor? HELL YES!!!
As a long-time fan of the Mando'ade/ Boba Fett/ Jango Fett/ Jaster Mereel/ True Mandalorians & a big fan of The Mandalorian, it was so satisfying to watch this episode & witness the above-referenced exchange between Din Djarin & Boba Fett.
Boba Fett IS canonically alive! It's official!
(AND this scene FINALLY shuts down all of the "Jango Fett really wasn't a Mandalorian" osik).

Family is family. Every Mandalorian is forcibly adopted by someone at some point. 😂
Is Mandalorian sibling adoption just fanon?
I've heard "ni kyr'tayl gai sa'vod" in more TCW fics than I can remember, but in the admittedly small amount I've read of Legends profic about Mandos, it's only ever talked about adopting children.
Not that I'm letting that hold me back.

3 - Adoption Law as it currently stands
Tumblr media
[Text in image is as below]
i) The Legal Definition of Foundling;
a) A foundling by definition is a child or young person who’s either cannot be located, are not safe to return to, are deceased, have lost parental rights, or is otherwise an orphan. b) A foundling can only be adopted when all possible kin are declared unfit or show no interest in raising said child. c) If another member of the child’s family claims to be acting as guardian, but does not meet Galactic or Mandalorian Parent Guardian Standards, the Child will be available for adoption.
ii) Foundling Procedure;
a) When a Foundling is discovered, they are to be taken first to the Clan Armourer to ascertain their fit with the clan. b) If a Foundling has been found by a Mandalorian who is unable to legally act as a parent, they can place the Foundling in Clan Care. c) After the Goran has seen to the child, they are to go through appropriate medical and legal clearance in order to create a medical profile and procure the best form of education for the child in question.
Tumblr media
[Text in image is as below]
iii) Disownment of Parent;
a) A child – adopted, biological, or otherwise – can disown a parent at any age. b) Disowning a parent requires witness from either a Goran, a Journeyman Protector, or a Clan Alor of relevant standing. c) Disowning a parent can be for a variety of reasons, such as abuse, negligence, the parent being declared Dar’manda, or for differences in views and values. For example, if the parent attempts to force the child into a marriage, into a specific political leaning or agenda, or to lay down their armour, arms or give up their religion. d) Disownment of a parent cannot occur due to criminal action on behalf of the child. For example, a child can not steal from a dependent member of their clan, and disown their parent to escape criminal responsibility.
iv) Community Adoption;
a) In the case of a foundling or adoptee who cannot accept a parent for psychological reasons, or refuses to accept new parents upon the deceased, or lost previous parents, a communal adoption can be made. b) Communal adoptions can include
Tumblr media
[Text in image is as below]
v) Adoption regarding criminal activities
a) In the event of a parent being under arrest, or having been charged and incarcerated. b) In the event of a child who has previously been convicted of a crime c) In the event of a parent have been previously incarcerated, charged, or suspected of a crime.
vi) Adoption regarding marital conditions;
a) Adoption of a partner’s children can be confirmed before a marriage is settled upon. b) When a married Mandalorian wishes to adopt a child, their partners, as long as there is no Separation filed, will be automatically upgraded to at least guardianship status. c) Children from previous marriages, if the Mando’ade in question is adopting more, will be considered equally as much the Mando’ade’s children. d) Marrying a non-Mandalorian who has children can automatically qualify their children for a full Mandalorian education, regardless of whether or not their parent swears the resol’nare.
Tumblr media
[Text in image is as below]
vii) Adoption Consent;
a) If the child is over the standard age of thirteen, or verdgoten equivalent of their species, a verbal, written, or recorded consent must be filed for their adoption to be recognised. In the case of illiterate, non-verbal, or non-seeing Mando’ade, a Goran can be contacted to make the official note of the adoption, and becomes signatory for both parties. This Goran then must be contacted if the child decides to disown a parent, or acknowledge another parent. If the Goran in question is deceased, or declared Dar’manda, another Goran, or even a Journeyman Protector can be used in clause. b) A child cannot be re-adopted by a disowned parent once that parent has been declared as disowned. c) A child must be awake at the time of adoption, even for those below the age of consent, and must not be under the effects of mind-altering substances, reactionary drugs, or Force Related Suppressants.
[As always, any thoughts, comments or criticism is welcome. As you know, this is the draft!!]

Jaster Mereel's Supercommando Codex - source material
The History of the Mandalorians (2005)
Tumblr media
Jaster Mereel, a deeply pious human and extraordinary soldier, immediately noticed a deep-seated dissatisfaction in the hearts of many hard-boiled Mandalorian. As a former Journeyman Protector, Mereel brought a strong ethic that extended far beyond the limited Mandalorian ideology of fighting for credits. His prowess in combat earned him the respect of his peers, and when Mereel fought tooth-and-nail to became reigning Mandalore and unite the disparate clans, his ideals became the foundation for a new creed: the supercommando Codex. Not all agreed with Mereel's ideas, however. Many bloodthirsty and amoral Mandalorians resented him, having enjoyed the unaccountability of their mercenary lifestyles. Among them was the soldier Vizsla, who gathered the dissenters into a splinter group, the Mandalorian Death Watch. Mereel's suppercommandos, in turn, recast themselves as the True Mandalorians, and total war ensued.
The New Essential Chronology (2005)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Battle of Galidraan marked the end of the Mandalorian Civil War, a conflict between True Mandalorians and the Mandalorian Death Watch that had been sizzling for over a quarter century. Following the Mandalorians' extinction of the Ithullans a century and a half earlier, some clan members had expressed a desire to shed the amoral ways of the "Mandalorian Mercs". Eventually, the charismatic Jaster Mereel came to lead the clans as Mandalore, and set down an idealistic code of conduct in the Supercommando Codex. A Mandalorian named Vizsla attracted followers fond of the old ways, who formed the Death Watch faction. Armed conflict broke out approximately 60 B.B.Y.
The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia (2008)
From Jaster Mereel's Entry (vol. 2):
Tumblr media
[...] When Merel was elected the leader of the Mandalorian Mercs, it was believed that Vizsla decided to split off from the group and form the Death Watch. In response, Mereel declared that his followers were the True Mandalorians. Vizsla tried to destroy the True Mandalorians on Concord Dawn, but Mereel and a small force managed to survive, thanks in part to the efforts of a young Jango Fett. The Mandalorians regrouped, but Mereel felt pressure from hard-liners like Montross to eliminate the Death Watch and reestablish the superiority of the Mandalorians. It was during this time that he created the Codex, the new tenets and canons of supercommandos who followed him into battle. He also appointed Jango Fett as his choice to succeed him as Mand'alor.
Supercommando Codex Entry (vol. 3):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Supercommando Codex This was the name used by Jaster Mereel to describe the set of tenets and canons that he developed to oversee the new Mandalorian Mercs several decades before the onset of the Clone Wars. The codex was created to define the rules and roles of his new supercommandos, in an effort to unite the disparate clans of Mandalorian Mercs under a single leader. Although many followers of the Mandalorian codes agreed with Jaster and the codex, many others - Vizsla and Montross among them - broke away from his band in protest over the new rules.
Galaxy at War (2009)
Tumblr media
The roots of the Protectors stretch back to Jaster Mereel's formation of the Mandalorian Supercommandos (Mando Ori'ramikade). During the Mandalorian Civil War of 60-34 BBY, the Protectors' ranks were split into two factions: the rebellious Death Watch and the reformist True Mandalorians of Mereel and Jango Fett. The True Mandalorians met their end at the Battle of Galidraan, but ther moral teaching, embodied in the Supercommando Codex, inspired many back on Mandalore.
The Essential Guide to Warfare (2012)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the last century before the Battle of Yavin, two new Mandalorian movements arose. The mercenary Jaster Mereel, who became Mandalore in 60 BBY, sought to reinstitute the warrior codes. His True Mandalorians were opposed by mercenaries who argued that the way to restore the clans' honow was to topple the hated New Mandalorians and repay the Republic's savagery in kind. This group became known as the Death Watch.
+ bonus, Jango Fett and Tor Vizsla opinions on Jaster Mereel's idea of honor, as presented in Death Watch Manifesto (published as part of The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett, 2013)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[...] Other disagreements soon followed. Some of the Faithful, the so-called True Mandalorians, wanted to dictate how all of us should earn credits for ourselves and our families, and they sought to supervise our conduct in a hostile galaxy. The wiser among us understood that in times of war it is only the ruthless - those who free themselves of the traps of pity and vacillation - who survive.
The breaking point came nearly three decades ago, when the Faithful made a terrible error, choosing Jaster Mereel as the True Mandalore. Mereel had been a lawman, a Journeyman Protector on Concord Dawn, until he murdered a superior officer. Wracked by guilt, he concluded that the flaw lay not in his own heart but in the universe. Unable to contain his own passions, he sought to eliminate them in everyone else. His blinkered view of Mandalorian honor would have reduced the Faithful to mere hirelings, helpless against the Faithless.
[Fett's comment written on margin] These are lies. Jaster sought true honor, not the right to ignore laws and moral codes. Vizsla’s Death Watch was nothing but a license for murder - Jango.

Hi hello, I have a translation question! Do you know of any translation of the Jedi code (Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force.) into Mando'a? Or have you done such a translation? Or would you be willing to do so?
I have attempted to poke at it a bit but I am pants at real languages, much less made up ones, and I decided that it was much smarter to ask someone who has a better idea what they're doing. Thanks!
I haven’t done one, but I’ve seen several in fics. Unfortunately it’s not something I’ve saved anywhere, so I the only one I remember on the top of my head is across the doorsill where the two worlds touch by FormlessVoidbeast, and that one only has two lines. Hopefully someone remembers more fics in the comments so we could compare notes.
Honestly, I think this is a challenging translation because it involves not just translating the words, but also bridging a significant cultural and philosophical gap. I don’t claim to have studied the code extensively, so comments/critiques/different interpretations are welcome.
But anyway, one way of translating it could be something like:
Aal, su naak.
Nakar’mir, su kar’tayl.
Shereshoy, su udes.
Akaan, su tokar.
Kyram, su manda.
I think I’ve stolen at least two if not more of these lines from fics I’ve read, so I can’t take credit for it. The last line is from across the doorsill; shereshoy su udes came from somewhere as well, but I can’t remember where. The only part I did come up with was akaan, su tokar.
Chaos could be primordial chaos and emptiness, or disorder. Mando’a has haran, which is more of a destruction, annihilation, or apocalypse. Utra would be a void. Neither quite fills the same semantic space as English chaos though, so I settled on akaan. Literally war, but here I would translate it as struggle (that’s my own interpretation of akaan though).
Harmony could be tomaal, “joined feeling.” However, I think a better translation would be a more metaphorical one: tokar, “joined heart(s).” Or, concord.
Akaan, su tokar. Struggle, yet concord.
Shereshoy is passion in the sense of “living passionately, seizing every moment,” but it doesn’t capture the sense of “suffering, enduring.” For that, you would have to use atiniir (enduring) or perhaps aaran (suffering in the sense of pain).
Nakar’mir is defined as “to be unaware, not know” in the dictionary. I think you could user the infinitive form as a noun (gerund); or you could make it nakar’mird, “unknowing mind.”
If you wanted to do the “there is no emotion, only peace” you could translate it as
Nu’cuy aal, (cuy) shi naak.
Or even more compactly,
N’aal, shi naak.

BASIC INFO
I use mostly she/her, but I'm alright with any pronouns.
This is a fandom space only. I'm here to have fun, not to discuss current issues or politics (I do that enough in real life already).
Bigotry is not tolerated. It doesn't have a place in my blog. Being a bigot can and will get you blocked.
No reblogging posts to throw negativity. I'm not here for debate, I'm here to have fun with my silly posts and whoever interacts without being a dick.
I reserve the right to block you and kick you out of my space if you're behaving like an asshole.
I love asks. You can ask me whatever you want. The only thing I request is that you do this off-anon. This is only to prevent more assholes sneaking into my space.
I don't start arguments, fights and debates. I've always found it counterproductive, needlessly-infuriating and a waste of my time. However, I finish them. The block button is my friend and I'm not afraid to use it.
STAR WARS FANDOM
Pro Jedi, if the name of my blog didn't clue you in. Jedi hate will get you blocked faster than you can say "Star Wars".
Anti Sith, like any reasonable person with media literacy. They're space nazis, social darwinists, genocidal maniacs who in all their thousands of years of existance have done nothing but try to run tyrannical empires and fail miserably and obsess over the Jedi. The nicest thing I can say about them is that some of them are really fun to watch and have a decent fashion sense. Therefore I am also anti Galactic Empire and anti First Order, the governments they (try to) run.
I may as well say this, although I'm sure most of the fandom will have me crucified: Mandalorian/Mando critical. Unlike the Sith, I don't think all of them (or even most of them) are evil and I'm willing to be charitatable to them. I want to LIKE them, but the fandom glorifying them has soured them a lot to me.
Adding to the above point: Anti Mandoclone. The Clones aren't Mandalorian, they are their own people with their own history and experiences. They might have Mandalorian influence (and it's an idea that has merit and potential if executed well), but they are not Mandalorian and I doubt they'd want to be.
Anakin Skywalker critical. I don't hate him, I like him, he's fun to watch/read about and his character is very dear to me. But he's a villain and an asshole and I'm not ashamed to point out that part of his character.
My canon is the PT, the OT, TCW, Rebels and Rogue One. Any other source material is up in the air, and I pick and choose what I like and leave the rest. So if you see me ignoring a part of a book/comic but posting about another, you know why.
