Ch210 vs ch100: Water-landings, burdens, and injuries

In ch210, Finny already has a bullet wound in his left shoulder, then he's shot in the left leg as he grabs Oliver and heads for the drainage ditch. Throughout this chapter, we've seen him flashback to his escape from that German drug facility.

In ch100, he's running through the forests of Bavaria, where they are being chased by armed Germans (from a military research facility). He's carrying Sieglinde in his arms, while Tanaka (chibi form) is on his back, holding on at Finny's neck and shoulders. He's also carrying two large bags (Snake's snakes?). He jumps off a very high cliff (above the tree line) and lands in a shallow river/stream.

He's in pain and his legs are shaking, but he seems to recover okay.

Then there are shots fired, and Tanaka goes into action.

In both chapters, we have:

Finny burdened with extra weight and trying to keep others safe

Trying to escape from staff at enemy facilities

Germans (the action in the witch arc vs old flashbacks in ch210)

Injuries (especially to Finny's legs)

Being shot at

Landing in shallow water

Being inspired by thoughts/memories of our earl (reminded of our earl in ch210 by Theo)

Um, did I miss any of the similarities? 🤔

La lune du jour, légèrement voilée, ce qui lui va plutôt bien. Sinon, j'ai complété nos réservations pour cet été : mes amours pourront découvrir les sublimes levers du soleil sur le golfe du Lion. Et puis, ce soir, l'annonce de la mort de Frédéric Mitterrand auquel beaucoup de choses me liaient, à commencer par mon admiration pour l'auteur de "Lettres d'amour en Somalie", un livre qui m'a tant plu à sa sortie en 1983 que je n'ai jamais osé le relire, tout en le conservant précieusement avec moi. Il y a aussi cet autographe auquel, bien que ne les collectionnant pas, je suis doublement attaché : ma fille, alors lycéenne, voyant passer Frédéric Mitterrand dans la rue, s'est précipitée vers lui et lui a demandé une dédicace "pour son père qui lit ses livres et regarde toutes ses émissions", requête à laquelle il a gentiment et joyeusement consenti. Je ne vous dis pas la fierté de mon ado de fille quand elle m'a fait la surprise de ce joli présent, ni mon émotion à le recevoir de ses mains.

Have a bit of Thing A Day catch-up to do; been having a bad mental health week. Lots of finding getting out of bed difficult. All too easy once I am up to do things like game obsessively instead of tackling anything I'd actually meant to do. As far as I can reconstruct the last most-of-a-week:

Mar 21 - I'm pretty sure I went to bed at a stupid hour (because Timberborn, again) and then overslept. Leftover shepherd's pie from the freezer for supper.

Mar 22 - Woke up at a reasonable (for me) hour, and then just lay in bed for many hours before getting up. Chili from the freezer and some rice for supper, with chopped fresh tomato.

Mar 23 - I have no memory of this day. I think I did chicken strips and fries for supper? Maybe. Or was this the shepherd's pie day and the 21st was the chicken strips. Who knows. Not my brain!

Mar 24 - Slept/lay in bed until stupidly late in the day again. Did pasta with meat sauce and chicken meat balls for supper.

Mar 25 - Managed to get up out of bed pretty early in the day, but it was because I'd barely slept. Had breakfast and then went back to bed and read for a while and then napped. Processed a bunch of meat my brother bought yesterday into 1 lb lots for freezing. Made beef stew from some of it.

Mar 26 - Sleep schedule still whacked, got up early again and then took a nap in mid-day. Did burgers & fries and a tomato-avocado-cucumber salad for supper.

Some time in the last few days I baked a loaf of cracked wheat bread, but I don't remember which day. And I might have partially cleaned the upstairs bathroom? Unless that was before this week from limbo.

It's now passed midnight; time to hit the sack before I succumb to temptation and not go to bed.

I think the lassitude and brain fog this week was largely hormones - I've hit the 'the engine doesn't always turn over' point of aging and menstruation, and after several months of very happily not having that to deal with, guess what started a couple day ago. Yeah. And the energy level and braining have rebounded noticeably since it started. Hope it fucks off again, permanently, 40+ years of this nonsense is long enough.

Black, nonunion households have a median household wealth of $61,500; meanwhile, Black union households hold around $164,6000 in median household wealth. Black workers are also more likely than workers of other races to be in a union, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with their union membership rates outpacing their white, Asian, and Hispanic counterparts. Unions particularly pay off for workers without a high school degree and again seem to be bridging educational wealth gaps, per the data. The median wealth of union members without a high school degree is over three times that of nonunion workers without a high school degree — $69,510 compared to $22,800 respectively.

Yesterday, I increased the gauge on my captured ball rings for my ears. Went from 14 to 12. And now they are a silver-looking titanium instead of the black coating I had before. Idk what type of metal or what color Undertaker's captured ball rings are supposed to be, but these show up better than the black ones. More shiny.
