Maria Aracely Penalba: I’m not sure how popular she is among fans, (I’m sure most people who read either of the 2 series she was in loved her) but I know marvel definitely forgot she exists considering she hasn’t had anything more substantial than a handful of cameo appearances since New Warriors ended.

I just read your most recent fic about Kaine showing up for Hanukkah, and I was really interested in the character of Aracely. I’m Mexican too and I’ve literally never heard of a Mexican superhero before, so I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind giving me a lowdown of her appearance in the comics? Does she still show up now in current comics with Kaine or is she one of those characters that they just decided to stop using after a handful of issues?

Scarlet Spider (2012) #1-25

New Warriors vol. 5 #1-12

(New Warriors v5 #8) Aracely first appears in Scarlet Spider (2012) #1 and is the second most major character aside from Kaine throughout that title. It's pretty clear that a large part of the book, had it not been cut short, would have been dedicated to solving the question of What Is Up With Aracely, but unfortunately we never got there and it's unlikely to come up again unless either Chris Yost gets another spin on a Kaine-involved title or a new writer takes up a specific interest in her character. She hasn't really appeared much since the cancellation of New Warriors volume 5, which was in a lot of ways a sequel to Scarlet Spider, but there have been a couple of sightings of her since then, notably not with Kaine (who hasn't really done anything major since Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider -- he's also pretty much missing from current comics) and I would be disappointed if they don't show up together again in some future comic, but that's really up in the air. Kaine did remark in Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider that he missed Aracely but it was too dangerous to take her with him on his mission, which is really rich coming from a man who took her on a different mission to kill Wolverine.

When the New Warriors are strapped to the Death Machine, Water Snake tries to fight back but unfortunately, she is too weak from a little dehydration and exhaustion that she got blasted down by Zuras. Poor Speedball could only watch helplessly as Water Snake is hurt badly and they can’t do anything in this possible doom.
