So far, I have already played ~6h of a very casual mass effect 3! Is it possible to casually play mass effect after all?
Things I have (not) done:
Gave Shep a new hair cut, because why not.
Only started 3 without playing 1&2 first, meaning I used Genesis, which fucked up some of my normal playthrough decisions - and I'm just shrugging it off.
Have not stressed about in which order to do the missions yet. Just going with the vibe/how much time I have.
Said in Genesis that Shepard had something with garrus in 2 and then told him to stay friends in 3 (which kinda breaks my heart a little, but I don't like the flirty vibes and it does fit the story, and again: why the heck not).
Strolled through the Normandy and citadel just looking around enjoying the scenery.
Disabled subtitles - I'll understand what I understand. 🤷
Only took screenshots to get nice pics of my dudes but not to lay down the script for canon.
Forgot to save before cut scenes so I end up with whatever decision I'm making on the first try.
And let me tell you, it's fun so far.
(for real. I don't think I have ever played mass effect casually, as much as I adore it, it always feels like sometjing huge - but I'm trying to just say screw it and enjoy the way this time)

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who liked or reblogged something from you! get to know your mutuals and followers (ू•‧̫•ू⑅)♡
Received this message in my inbox right before my latest depressive episode, am currently trying to crawl back out of that dark pit, so this should be interesting.
Writing > Just in general, yeah. The action of writing, putting words together and forming sentences, creating images in the reader's mind. The feel and sound of skin brushing on paper, the scritches of the pen as it moves. Then the rush when an idea comes to mind, one that excites you as it fills a gap, solves a problem or is just fun.
Reading > Being transported to different worlds, realms and universes just by words on a page. I can't wait to get my hands on Sarah J. Maas' latest Crescent City book. Seriously, I'm not excited about much right now, but this book? This book I need in my life and I might spend some grocery money on it, because fuck it. It makes me happy. :D
A good book to TV adaptation > Netflix's atrocity that they blasphemously call The Witcher is a good example of how not to do it. You know which one did get it right? Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The season finale was yesterday and I can't wait for season 2! Everything about this show was great: the casting of the characters, the adaptations to the story, the sceneries and sets. Seriously, some of the shots on the show are exactly what those locations looked like in my mind when I was reading the book. Also, the new live action Avatar: The Last Airbender looks really good. Might have to borrow my dad's account to check it out.
BioWare Games > I'm way behind the times and only started playing BioWare games 3 years ago and started with Dragon Age: Inquisition 'cause, you know, I'm backwards. XD After finishing all of the Dragon Age games, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition was free for me with my Playstation subscription so I was like, "Eh, why not." (I thought it was just a shooter in space. I was stupidly ignorant.) That was about a year ago now and I am so glad I found these fandoms. Also, they're definitely my new comfort games: I played some Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda the past couple of weeks.
Comfort Characters > I can't talk about my favorite video games and then not mention the characters. Or, just share some gifs because it would be an entire essay if I started about why I love these characters.

So I played a bit of Starfield and. I hate it.
“Oh but it’s just skyrim in spa-” no, no it’s not. It’s got none of skyrims lore, the story feels like generic insert space sci-fi here. And I got bored of it after trying and I mean REALLY trying to get into it for 7 hours.
“Oh but it’s got heaps of content and gameplay time-” I don’t care, if it can’t hook me in after 7 hours it can’t hook me in at all. I didn’t enjoy the fallout games and I don’t like sci-fi. The 3 sci-fi related things I’ve enjoyed are mass effect, Overwatch and dr who.
Sci-fi to me feels too close to our modern times, lifeless, boring, space is cool yes but it’s been over done to hell and back and there’s little room for added creativity when bound so closely to our reality. One of if not the main conflict of the game is called ‘the colony wars.’ Okay so it’s the Jedi verses the empire, or the entire plot of outer worlds, like- you have the whole universe to be explored and we’re still focused on bullshit civil fighting like we’re already dealing with here on earth?
“Oh but there’s a rare mineral to unlock the secrets of the universe” rare mineral yeah, so Avatar then. And we start the game off as a miner, a drone worker and our whole task is to mine for this rare ore, soooo exciting 🙄.
Yes skyrim has a civil war going on, the elder scrolls certainly has its problems. But it’s so disconnected from our reality and full of mystery and intrigue that alone can get you invested, the scenery and art is captivating and full of life and starfields like fallouts is lifeless. At least fallout had some rustic charm to it, starfields is too clean, too polished, too lifeless.
Honestly I regret spending the money on it, and even more so I spent my one day off playing that instead of baldurs gate, skyrim, bloodborne or literally anything else.

In my downtime while I was sick, I finally got around to doing MEL earlier this month (boy is that version of the Mass Effect Trilogy buggy as fuck) and I was still stuck by how ridiculous the dream sequences were in ME3. Especially the Scenery.
So, while thinking of my recurring nightmare, I thought of the scenery that haunts me (cause it’s the same damn place each time) and realized the trees in ME3′s dream had no actual reference from my FemShep’s life (of course there is also the “why-am-I-attached-to-random-child-I-saw-like-three-times-as-opposed-to-friend-I-left-to-die?” question but I’ve already whined about that). It’s supposed to be an important dream to make us feel like Shep is suffering for failing everyone but the trees make it feel even more out of place.
We don’t see any stand of trees like that in any of the games. Depending on the background that Shep has, they don’t even grow up near trees. Two of the three options for pre-service history has Shepard living somewhere with very little trees (ships/stations or on the streets of a big city) while the third is a colony off in the Attican Traverse with non-Earth flora. I suppose Shep could have visited a park or two while taking a break from saving the galaxy but it goes very against the character type, especially since the events from the full trilogy only take place over 3 years and Shep was dead for 2 of those.
I get that they were probably going for the idea of being lost and needing to connect but there were so many other impactful scenes that they could have chosen to base the dream around. Like basing it on Virmire, a planet where you make more than one decision that impacts the rest of the trilogy. Heck, if they wanted symbolism, using the scene from ME2 where you’re forced to walk through the busted Normandy to rescue Joker during the opening would be full of symbolism. Shepard literally dies right after so that would have been a full circle nightmare fuel.

N7 Month 2022 - Day #02: Arcade
"Meet me in the arena".
Still in her pajamas and with her hair tousled, she stared at the message that Garrus left for her on the fridge. What did he had in mind this time? Another challenge, like the one at the Presidium? A gallant meeting like the date at the casino's bar?
Knowing him it could be anything and the thought made her smile. That turian always knew how to surprise her.
She took a quick shower and put on an elegant but not too flashy dress. Before leaving she stopped to look at herself in the mirror. The scars left by Cerberus' reconstruction pulsed with a faint reddish light. She took a deep breath, trying to dispel the dark thoughts. Their time was running out and she didn't want to waste it, indeed, she wanted to enjoy every moment.
This little diversion arranged by her boyfriend was just what she needed to get distracted.
