Matlock 2024 thoughts:

Kathy Bates is amazing.

The parentification of Alfie by his grandparents is awful.

The Matlocks blame the entirely wrong people for their daughter’s tragic death if they’re so focused on the evils of opioids. Matty is smart enough to know that, even if her idiot husband isn’t.

Matty’s husband a sexist jerk who claims to trust and believe in her even though he clearly blames her for their daughter’s death and questions her judgement every episode.

The managing partner’s son is so annoying.

Olympia and Shea had more chemistry together than either of them did with the managing partner’s son.

Madeline cries for her friend being cleared at first.

Then crying, after hanging up, because her friend is losing someone that she cares about. She's the one who's going to take Julian down. And it is going to hurt so much standing there in ground zero. and then she's crying out of relief that it is all over. Finally, for good. This entire thing is really coming to an end.

And then she's crying because it means it's the end of her time there under Madeline Matlock, leaving the firm, saying her farewells in this very emotionally distressing time for everyone, returning to Madeline Kingston, her heart sore and full of so much mixed feelings.

But we all know the show was renewed for season 2 and she carries on her duel personal because she enjoyed being a lawyer.

I'll write a proper short fic about Madeline.

Re-watching the CBS Matlock

For preparation of the finale on Thursday.

I'm on 1x7 now and I can't help laughing at this scene;

From Maddie being like "you guys are treating me like your kid"

to then, suggesting that they're trying to get her to be part of their throuple - they're not, but this is hilarious.

CBS announced a second season of Matlock starring Kathy Bates for 2025-26! You just never know lately, but I had a good feeling about this series.

Leading out of 60 Minutes‘ Season 57 premiere, Sunday night’s sneak preview of the Kathy Bates-led, not-a-reboot legal drama delivered 7.73 million total viewers, making it CBS’ most-watched series launch not airing after a Super Bowl since Luke Mitchell’s The Code drew north of 8 million on April 9, 2019 (following an episode of NCIS).

TVLine readers gave the Matlock premiere an average grade of “A,” with 95% of respondents planning to stay tuned for Episode 2. (Do not miss our post mortem Q&A with showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman.)

The first episode of Matlock, whose closing twist got everyone talking, is currently streaming on Paramount+, and CBS encores are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Thursday, Oct. 10 (both nights at 9/8c).

Matlock will then settled into its regular time slot, Thursdays at 9 pm, beginning Oct. 17 with Episode 2.

I caught up on Matlock and I have to say watching Billy propose to his girlfriend, only for her to say she doesn't think they belong together and they'd just gotten used to each other was extremely fucking painful okay

I like how Matlock is about redemption, vengeance, team work, and about family in a really good well crafted way. The story flows well in a very unique method in the main heart of it.

Matlock is a hit! Kathy Bates is undeniably magnetic in the titular role. The ensemble is excellent. The script is heartfelt and smart. And that twist? The show’s serialized arc will leave you wanting more.
