It’s not that we are perfect and they are not. We are not perfect and that’s the whole point in a relationship. We come with imperfections, we come with flaws, we come with insecurities and wounds from previous relationships, from our parents, from experiences in our lives, from our failures and our tragedies. Invest and the Test.

This phrase is literally a soul-enriching antidote to liberation and freedom from not holding on to the wrong person for dear life. I am guilty of having done this. It doesn’t mean my life had stalled in any way. It was going on just great except the lingering memory of Mr. X kept paying me a visit ever so often.

Ever been sold on the idea of someone and put him/her on a pedestal? I had. Notwithstanding that it was as much my fault as his for us to not have stood a chance. A chance at having a good time. But years went on, and I held on the idea of him I had in my head. Every man I ever casually dated post meeting him failed to live up to this idea of the man I had in the theatre of mind.

Let me first give due credit to the man who introduced me to this concept. His name is Matthew Hussey. A luminous man, that Matthew.

I have known of him for years on end and yet his advice didn’t sink in for me until this year. It has been revolutionary.

Why should you give your time of day to someone who is clearly showing you by his actions that he isn’t willing to put in any investment (in measures of time & energy), show minimum interest and make minimum effort? Seems a bit tone-deaf, doesn’t it? I was so ignorant of his ‘convenience based interest’ that I refused to see any plausible flaw in his actions. To make it worse, I didn’t even realise I found him attractive until all contact was severed between us. Having reached out and communicated interest by being clear as crystal, I feel relieved and no longer sold on the idea of him.

I learned how powerful reciprocity is. And striding onwards with grace if not met with it. Having my priorities straight. Being in alignment with my values and having clear boundaries. A true game-changer.

I learned the value in being on a moving train. The train that shall not stop for someone who isn’t sure about me, for a maybe, for a someday prospect.

I learned the magical power of letting go as soon as possible. Because a life that is already full and busy doesn’t need you to wait for nobody. Having someone along is a pleasant addition, not a necessity.

To be honest, I am pretty jazzed about life right now.
