was thinking about how sometimes i see people say vil is the only overblotter who apologized and tried to make up for his actions--and yes, we should definitely give vil credit for his maturity and willingness to take responsibility! but i think those people are forgetting someone else here.

someone who, as soon as his friends managed to get through to him, cried and admitted that he didn't even entirely like what he was doing. someone who, as soon as his childhood best friend finally told him that the way he acted was wrong and that he owed everyone an apology, told everyone there at the time that he was sorry. someone who, when a dormmate of his who he hurt told him that just crying and saying sorry wasn't enough, did exactly what he was asked to do to make up for it and didn't even question it--and even though he didn't get things exactly right, genuinely tried his best and allowed himself to laugh at his mistake! someone who immediately from then on started gradually taking steps to get himself to be kinder and worry less about the rules!

that's right, if you think vil is the only one who apologized and tried to make up for the actions that led to/resulted from his overblot then you're forgetting riddle, our other queen! and riddle deserves his credit for all of this. cater even mentions during book 2 that he's been way nicer than he was before and ace and deuce also say that even though they still have to follow some weird rules, things are better than they used to be. and then at the end he chose to overlook trey and the others wanting to go against the rules just to get back at leona. maybe book 2 didn't display this quite as well as the beginning of book 6 showcased vil's development, but it is still there. and this is also why i hate seeing people characterize riddle as still being constantly angry and obsessed with rules post-book 1! he may not be perfect, but he's an abuse victim who had this mindset ingrained in him by his mother and instead of using that as an excuse he admitted that he was wrong and now is actively trying to be better. he was the first to overblot and even though book 1 was short, he still managed to have such great development.

my stuff for week 3 of funguary!

Velour (ze/zir, noi/noir), based on black velvet mushrooms and on the black velvet sea slug! Zir fur is SUPER soft like holy moly. that's soft

A caramel lizard based on enoki mushrooms (and the fact that lizards can have q-tip shaped frills, which are very silly). They were adopted by a friend.

The Vandal (they/them, ce/cir), based on inky cap mushrooms. They're also based on an old idea: basically, Vandal was modified by Dangers Ever-Present for vandalizing the ancient murals, but that obviously backfires because now Vandal doesn't need to make paint anymore >:]

Patient Zero (they/them), based on purple-spored puffballs. I actually created them a while ago, but hadn't made a reference for them yet! They have the same kind of symbiotic fungus that Zolli does. Also, they're named Patient Zero because they're the first creature modified by ANT using a funky retrovirus, which makes the fungus beneficial to its host :]
