a pokemon discord server i'm in asked everyone what their IRL pokemon teams would be based on where they've lived/their lifestyle, which is a question i love pondering but also always struggle with. I tend to think too realistically and worry about shit like "how much space do i have in my house", "how many + which Pokemon would i be able to care for properly", "do Snubbull have the same health problems as irl brachy dogs?", and "am i a kind enough person to keep a Togetic without it getting miserable?? am i willing to welcome this kind of moral judgement into my life for the sake of cute bird?? how allergy inducing is "joy dust"???"

anyway after much thought + giving myself a full team for the sake of Fun and Imagination:

Torterra- Sinnoh feels like the closest region climate-wise to Michigan, so i think it'd make sense for me to have a Sinnoh pokemon. i really liked reptiles and dinosaurs as a kid, so a turtle that evolves into a big prehistoric looking turtle would be appealing to child me. My yard might be a little small, but Torterra don't seem super active at least, and i could take it on outings to parks

Smeargle- i was an 'art kid' growing up, and having an artist buddy to make stuff with would rule, tbh. although they do seem like a messy companion from the pokedex entries. maybe they can be redirected to paint on canvases that i could hang up around the house to serve the same 'marking territory' purpose though?? That would be fun

Volbeat- i loved catching lightning bugs (and bugs in general) in the yard as a kid, and i still see them around the yard in the house im living in now

Appletun- for all the times i went to apple orchards with my family in fall... also its Small so i could keep one in my house. AND its a dragon and i was also a dragon obsessed kid

Meowth- because i love cats + its small and would definitely fit in my house

Goomy- because me and my partner keep amber snails, and Goomy captures their gormless vibe a little more than Shelmet does, despite being a slug rather than a snail

growing up i think i'd have Herdier, because it looks like my childhood dog- but she's really my parents' dog, so i think she'd stay with them. And the Goomy would probably be my partner's, if i'm being real- maybe for my actual sixth team member i'd have Maushold, since i used to collect Calico Critters/Sylvanian Families? Although Maushold in the same house as Meowth might be kind of dicey. loaded dicey

Me wanting Ash and his friends to team up and beat up Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket, turned into an au where they all play DnD after it falls into the universe DMed by Jessie, James, and Meowth

I just have one issue

I now wanna make level 20 DnD characters

the main stats for DnD are Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and I am now trying to figure out how to order those stats from best to worst for 19 people

“You’re… sure?” he asked. “That’s where Pikachu went?”

“Almost certainly,” Lucario replied. “And… I do not know precisely why, but I can guess. It is a matter of Mew being… I am not sure of exactly how to express it. Mew is tired, but not by effort. By their life.”

“...oh,” Ash said, swallowing. “I guess… I can kind of understand that, but… what can we do, then?”

“There are some possibilities,” Lucario replied. “It may be that the Tree of Beginning can be healed. Or it may be that I can help Mew in another way-”

He paused, then looked over. “And it may be that we can skip this whole tedious business with modern machines that grumble and emit foul gas, and instead get their help.”

“Whose help?” Ash asked, confused.

“Their help,” Lucario replied, pointing.

“...what’s up with the back of the car?” Max said, frowning.

“Wait, hold on,” Ash said, thinking. “I guess… this must be because of aura, right? So you can see something that the rest of us can’t?”

He frowned. “But… you said that my aura was like Sir Aaron’s, so I can see with it as well, can’t I?”

“With training, yes,” Lucario replied. “Though… actually, I may as well just see how quickly you learn. First, close your eyes.”

Ash closed his eyes, and the rest of his friends watched with interest.

“Now, focus on the fire in your heart,” Lucario went on. “The pulse of your soul. The condensed form of all the experiences you have ever had. Feel it around you. Understand what it is to be yourself, and to be separate from the world but still a part of it. Aura is an expression of yourself, but in order to reach out into the world you must understand your place in the world – not apart from it, but not solely a part of it either.”

“Right…” Ash said, sounding uncertain but determined.

“And… without opening your eyes, try to see,” Lucario said. “Look around. Your eyes aren’t necessary to see.”

“I’m pretty sure-” Brock began, and May hushed him.

“...huh,” Ash said, eventually. “I can see some weird glowing things in the back of the car. I guess that’s about where the supplies and stuff would be kept?”

“I am impressed,” Lucario declared. “Well done, Ash. Normally that takes hours.”

“You couldn’t have said that?” Ash demanded, turning to Lucario. “I could have been standing here for hours!”

“I said I was impressed,” Lucario replied. “And I didn’t tell you in case exactly this happened… but we’re getting off topic.”

He stepped closer to the car. “Are you willing to help?”

There was a long pause, and Ash could hear a whispered argument.

Then all the piled supplies scattered everywhere as two very familiar faces came springing out.

“It looks like we’ll have to reveal ourselves!” Jessie said.

“Because otherwise we’d be given the boot,” James agreed, flourishing a rose, as the two of them posed on top of the car.

They paused.

“Oh, it’s not the same without him,” Jessie sighed. “We couldn’t do the whole motto without his smart comments.”

“Team Rocket!” Ash said. “What are you – wait…”

He frowned. “Where’s Meowth, then? If he’s not here he must be somewhere else… did Mew take him too?”

“That’s what we’ve decided to assume!” James said. “And that Mew should prepare for trouble!”

“Because we’ll make it double!” Jessie agreed. “And-”

Lucario coughed.

“Why are you doing this, exactly?” he asked.

“They’re Team Rocket!” Ash explained. “They keep trying to steal my Pokémon!”

“No, they don’t,” Lucario replied. “If they were trying they’d probably be better at it.”

“...what?” Ash said, thoroughly derailed.

“How does that work?” Max asked. “Though I guess they are terrible at it.”

“Watch it, brat!” Jessie said.

“But you’ve tried – how many times now?” May asked. “It must be about a hundred just since I met Ash. And how often have you succeeded?”

“More like three to four hundred or so all told, but how does Lucario know how good they are?” Brock frowned. “Something here doesn’t add up.”

He glanced at Kidd, who’d mostly been watching in something like fascination. “Do you have any idea what’s gong on?”

“We’re far beyond my frame of reference,” Kidd admitted. “And that’s saying a lot from me… thousand year old talking Pokémon that can see through walls isn’t something I’ve had to deal with before.”

“Wait….” Ash said, thoughtfully.

He had his eyes closed again, and he was looking from Team Rocket to his friends.

“...I can see them, but not you,” he explained. “Not nearly as well, anyway. So there’s something weird going on… Lucario, how come you were asking them for help?”

“I admit, I didn’t know the bit about how you’d had to deal with them trying to steal your Pokémon,” Lucario said. “But I’m still sure that they are both trustworthy and able to help us get to the Tree of Beginning, in… about five minutes, actually.”

“Okay, I’m even more confused than before,” Max said.

Ash, for his part, had started suddenly frowning.

“...wait,” he said. “It just occurred to me… you guys actually do tend to help when there’s some kind of disaster, don’t you? And you do way better when you are!”

He put his hands on his hips. “So what’s going on, huh?”

Jessie and James exchanged glances.

“...well, we had a good run,” James sighed. “It figures the Twerp would eventually run into someone who could clock us.”

“Honestly we’ve been on borrowed time since the end of his Johto trip,” Jessie replied. “And still we don’t have the kitty-cat with us.”

“Then we’ll improvise!” James declared. “Let’s do this!”

They struck a pose.

“Listen, is that a voice I hear? Jessie said.

“It’s speaking to me, loud and clear!” James answered.

“On the wind!” Jessie said.

“Past the stars!” James agreed.

“In your ear!” they chorused.

The two of them swapped places, and Ash noticed that it was Lucario’s turn to look perplexed.

“Do they do this a lot?” he asked.

“Yep,” Max said. “This song’s new, though.”

“Bringing chaos at a breakneck pace,” Jessie told them.

“Dashing hope – putting fear in its place!” James said, throwing his rose into the air, and Jessie caught it.

“A rose by any other name is just as sweet,” she said, sniffing it.

“When everything’s weird, our work’s complete!” James announced, as they linked hands and leaned over either side of their perch on the car.

“Jessie-”

“-and James!”

“And Meowth’s also a name!” they said, in unison once more.

“I can’t believe we’re all just watching this,” Kidd Summers said, quietly.

“Putting the do-gooders in their place,” Jessie hinted.

“We’re Team Rocket!” James went on.

“In your face!” they chorused, then Jessie’s Wobbuffet landed on top of them.

“...that didn’t explain anything,” Max complained.

“Are you hoping that if you’re confusing enough you’ll forget what I asked?” Lucario said, folding his arms. “If you’d been causing less nonsense we could have rescued them by now.”

“Spoilsport,” Jessie muttered.

“Twerps!” James said, struggling out from underneath Wobbuffet – though not without difficulty. “Don’t you ever wonder how we have such amazing disguises?”

“How we’re always back without issue after being launched into the sky?” Jessie asked.

“And how we have such fabulous hair?” James went on. “Really, Jessie’s hair isn’t very realistic, but it looks great.”

Lucario glared at them, and both Rockets wilted.

“Fine, fine,” Jessie muttered, then flashed bright blue and turned out to be a Latios.

James did the same, turning out to be a Latias, and everyone stared.

“...okay, I’ll be honest, I was expecting you to be the other way around once I saw you,” Lucario conceded. “That, I didn’t realize.”

“We take turns!” Jessie-Latios said. “Depends which of us feels more boy-mode or girl-mode today!”

“Or what Mew thinks would be funny,” James-Latias added.

“...what… the hell?” Max said, which was pretty much what everyone was thinking.

“We were asked to keep an eye on the Chosen One and our instructions were very broad,” J-Latias declared, with a thumbs-up. “So we decided to give him special training!”

“Though it’s mostly because it’s funny,” J-Latios added, shrugging.

Happy 28th Anniversary To Pokemon!! ✨❤️

On this day in 1997, the Pokemon Anime premiered and It's incredibly crazy and insane that it's been 28 years since the Anime premiered worldwide and it's become one of the biggest and highest grossing franchises of all times and is still airing today with so much new content with it's newest series, "Pokemon Horizons." And although over the years since the Anime was released, many argue and discuss how repetitive and bland the anime became overtime especially with the show's many many spin-offs, specials, seasons, ect. And although that's fair criticism and is understandable, you still can't deny the insane impact and popularity the Anime had on so many and you can see the love and passion that went into the anime not just from the animation itself but also through the crew behind the show and the incredible and talented Voice Cast that brought all these characters to life and there's definitely so much to love about this franchise and you clearly don't have to play any of the games to fall in love and enjoy the show, and I also don't think anyone expected Pokemon to become as big and popular as it became.

And when it comes to me and my history with this franchise, I'm still a newcomer as I didn't get into the Anime until the end of December of last year, and I seriously and personally didn't expect to enjoy and love Pokemon as much as I did as I never bothered to truly sit down and watch it as it wasn't my cup of tea at the time and I also didn't know much about the anime or the franchise as a whole so I didn't have much interest before. I also never played the games either. But, after finally sitting down and watching the anime myself I finally understood and knew why this show resonated and meant a lot to me so much, it's very simple and fun to watch and it's also entertaining, watching the battles are always a fun to watch and the characters themselves truly do mean a lot to me and keep me engaged, one of the other things that got me into the series were the characters of Team Rocket, Jessie, James and Meowth themselves. Although they're villains and do bad things throughout the show, they're truly not all bad and each of the three are all complex and interesting in their own ways and there's clearly more to them then meets the eye, each of them have troubled pasts which makes it understandable and reasonable to know what brought them together and shows how their pasts defined who they became as people and showed why they do what they do.

Jessie, James and Meowth all have good hearts but they're also naive in a way and are pretty much like children despite being adults, basically being children at heart. They have their own sense of right and wrong and just do what they think is right, with a way of thinking that reflects the maturity and reasoning level of a toddler. As I've mentioned and said, they all ended up in Team Rocket because of the difficult paths they all faced during their youth and how that defined each of the three of them and despite having fights and not getting along sometimes, the three clearly and truly do care and love about each other and have found happiness and a family within in one another which brought them closer together, and I really and truly do find these three relatable despite how goofy these three dummies can be sometimes and these three really made me love the series as I really did resonate with them and their stories, not even afraid of saying they've become comfort characters for me even though I do enjoy and love the twerps as well too! But this Anime has truly had an impact on me despite being a new fan and it's meant to much to me and has helped me during tough times, it's also lead me to meeting and being friends with wonderful people like @doubletroubletrio and discovering the TRio fanbase (+ other fans who also enjoy and love the rockets as well) and has given me so much comfort and happiness and I just truly couldn't be any more grateful, thanks for everything Pokemon! Thank you for every episode and movie for filling us all with so much joy after all these years, thanks for giving us such memorable characters, unbreakable bonds, making us cry, smile, and giving us many many incredible adventures and telling us the story of Ash and Pikachu, thank you for everything, Pokemon. 🥹♥️

i think metagross would be the best pseudo pick for him, based on vibes, but tyranitaur or even garchomp could be interesting as well.

ok i wanna team build for him now. i feel like his team would be hand-picked to have the best type matchups possible, since as an heir he should never be able to come off as weak. unfortunately this means nothing with a 4x weakness :(

he needs a dragon i’m deciding. dragons are fierce and powerful. maybe a tyrantrum, since it was regarded as a king + the togami corporation would for sure have the resources to revive a fossil pokémon

i was gonna suggest getting him a psychic type before i remembered metagross is already psychic, so i’m gonna veer into fairy instead since it’s one of the best types out there in terms of matchups. this is kind of an out there pick in terms of vibes but i think a primarina would be a good choice for this. water/fairy is a very good type combo (also covers the fighting weakness his other pokémon have) and while i can’t really see byakuya with a popplio or a brionne i think primarina fits the elegance that an heir is meant to carry themselves with

with persian, metagross, tyrantrum, and primarina, there’s 2 slots left to fill. i want a grass type in here. i think it would do him nicely. why not a vileplume? they’re strong, have the biggest petals of any flower (Therefore The Best), and poison is a good addition to byakuya’s type roster as well. plus i think it’d be funny for a vileplume owner to tell toko to go away bc she’s stinky. bro you own a Stinky what do you do about vileplume’s stinky

ok anyways. 5 pokemon. one left. hmmmm. he has a regal feline. why not a regal canine? get my man a (kantonian) ninetails. fuck yes baby. vibes. arcanine has a higher bst BUT ninetails is soooo refined and elegant and has a more togami-like disposition so. ninetails get in here

very good question with very good options. i think he’d go for pokémon that he considers “the best of the best,” because the heir to the togami corporation can only have the best team right. that said i DO feel like he can’t be a rich pokémon trainer unless he has a persian as his primary partner pokémon. i do think he’d have a full team tho— he certainly has the resources to care for one

The first, Serene Retreat, runs from May30 at 10am to Jun3 at 8:00pm local time.

Wild encounters are: Chansey, Marill, Furfrou, Cutiefly, Morelull, Komala, and Hatenna, with rare spawns being Chimecho and Snorlax!

2km Eggs will hatch into: Chingling, Munna, Spritzee, and Swirlix

6⭐ Gigantamax Rillaboom will appear in Max Raids from May31 at 6am to Jun1 at 9pm, local time.

Bonuses during the event period include: collection challenges, 1/2 hatch distance for Eggs placed in incubators during this time, 1.5× Hatch XP, Max Particle collection limit increased to 1,600, 8× the Max Particles from Power Spots, an jncreased chance to hatch Shiny Munna and encounter Shiny Munna in research task rewards, and an increased chance to encounter Shiny Morelull in the wild and in research task rewards. Players with a paid Timed Research ticket will also receive the extra bonus of 1.5× Hatch Stardust.

Field Research encounters include: Munna, Cutiefly, Morelull, Komala, and Hatenna
