Still unpublished as of now, but here is an extract from Dull Ache (sequel to Parting Gift, if you ever wanted to suffer in TMA Circus Fic)

"The doctors took [Jon] as an emergency. They did a second surgery to clear his trachea of the remains of his larynx and closed the wound cleanly. It would scar, but it probably wouldn't be too different from a regular surgery scar. Even more discreet than the one he already had on his throat. 

They gave him plenty of bandages and painkillers and provided instructions for Georgie to help him dress the wound every day. He was directed towards resources to get physical therapy for his legs weakened by the lack of exercising and more regular therapy to help him recover from the event. He promised to look at them, but he knew he would not. There were also multiple flyers for courses to learn sign language. 

He wasn't eligible for any reconstruction surgery or any device to help him recover his voice. The remains in his throat would have been insufficient even if the doctors had decided to leave them in, which would have come with a lot more complications regarding breathing. There was nothing that could be done without causing further damages and potentially endangering his life. 

He would never speak again."

the problem with writing tma fanfiction is that I'll sit down thinking "okay, I've got an idea and I just wanna go for it, cut right to the quick, totally self indulgent, 4k words max," but unfortunately the idea usually involves jon, and he's never cut right to the quick in his life. I try to lure him into having a low stakes but emotionally honest conversation in private with his romantic partner but the fucker just won't budge. I am literally playing god trying to squeeze a single verbal expression of genuine human emotion out of this fucking victorian orphan of a ghost librarian and he just pops right out of my hand like a wet bar of soap. I made it nice I set the scene I got him comfortable but jonathan "I feel sad" "the archivist" sims is determined to ruin my whole fucking life.

Hey guys sorry for TMA maxxing on main but rn I’m on Mag194 and with these last few episodes I’ve kinda just been reflecting on Jon and martins whole dynamic so far, so pardon the rant

What I truly admire about Jon and Martins dynamic within this least season is how despite being in a literal apocalypse, it feels so.. real? If that makes sense. Like, They Defenitly both have their own flaws no doubt about that, and at times they can sort of be a bit of a dick and Jon is, Jon. But in their defense I can’t imagine being in a post apocalyptic eye world will be good for your mental health. but despite all of this.. they still truly love eachother. Like they get in scuttles but I think it’s because they genuinely care about eachother and are worried for each others own good, especially with their argument they have at the beginning of 194, it’s the worst we’ve seen yet. But I think it comes down to Martin not wanting to lose Jon, and just being overwhelmed with all that’s going on, and then Jon is just filled with a whole bunch of guilt and there’s just so much going on to him really.

Anyways apologizes for the long rant but I just kinda needed to get that out, I’m still halfway through the episode but I just truly admire the writing that went into these final episodes and how dynamic these characters are.

Free will is a funny old thing, isn't it ? We are always told we have a choice, no matter the circumstances, but is dying, or suffering a worse fate than death, really a choice ?

He could chose what to cook one evening, he could chose to wear his forest green or mustard yellow jumper, he can chose to go to work with the tube or the bus.

He can chose what statement to work on. He had chosen to prioritise the Vittery case. He had chosen to go dig further, into that basement.

But dying the same way Prentiss had -- because what was attacking him wasn't Prentiss, it was a husk of who she had been -- wasn't really a choice, was it ?

"Okay," he murmured, barely audible even for him, but that was as much acceptance as the Mother needed.

It seized control of his limbs, bringing him down to his knees on the tiled floor of the bathroom. Terrified of the mistake he'd made, Martin could only watch in horror as the arachnid made its way up his face.

He shouldn't have been able to watch as it slowly, carefully lifted his eyelid, and made its way under his ocular globe, thin legs running along his optical nerve and threading a web inside his skull.

It shouldn't have been possible for hundreds, thousands of spiders to pour out from the ceiling, devouring the worms as much as they devoured him.

He should have been able to survive this.

Yet he did.

But how much of Martin was left, after he became part of the Mother ?

"I can save you." The spider told Martin.

The silver worms wiggled their way inside from every single crack and hole they could find. The ceiling, the vents, the cracks on the wall, the faucet...

There were even maggots coming out from the empty cans of peaches.

Though Martin couldn't tell if they were real or just the beginnings of a hallucination.

At this point, it felt like there was nothing else outside his apartment, just a black void full of worms slowly eating through the walls.

"I can save you." The spider repeated, cleaning its fangs. Its eyes were like big black dots of the cosmos, as if they promised a void with no worms, just a mesmerizing, peaceful quiet.

Martin had run out of food and water a long time ago. Even if the worms didn't reach him, he was sure to die before long.

"I can save you." The spider told Martin. "It will just cost you small price."

Did he have a choice?

I'm rewatching (?) the magnus archives since i never finished and used to listen to it before sleeping so most of the details were lost to me in slumber, and a couple of things are pissing me off so baaaad

1) please stop whispering. I'm trying to listen to the podcast on the bus to work but i can’t fucking hear it over the engine even at max volume. I've never had this problem before, in fact i rarely even get the volume on red since there is no need, i can hear things perfectly well without damaging my eardrums. Everything, except this damn podcast. Put this in a godforsaken statement, the atmosphere doesn’t matter if i can’t fucking hear you

2) why does mr. Jonathan Simms even work here. I know it’s for ~character development~ but whyyy is he here if he doesn’t think a single statement given so far is real. It’s pissing me off how he ends nearly every episode by saying something like "obviously this is a load of bullshit despite [GLARING EVIDENCE]"

3) suspension of disbelief is working overtime here. (Most of) These are supposed to be written statements written by a wide range of people, and yet they all sound the same. Worse yet, they all sound like prose. It's hard to believe this were all written by different people recounting something that happened to them when it sounds like someone is narrating a book. I don't remember the episode, but i remember the phrase "the light coated my skin like oil" because it struck me as so out of place. People don't talk like that! How come a statement given by a man in the early 1900 doesn't sound substantially different from one given by a young woman in the 2010s? Also, people tend to write in a more straightforward way. All these "i'm not making myself clear, let me start again"isms that we hear all the time in the statements are marks of spoken speech, not written. If we're writing something down but feel like we're not explaining it well enough, do you know what we do? Exactly, we erase it and try again. It would make sense if the statements were just transcribed interviews, but that's not what they are

This is not a conversation, I just wanted to get this off my chest. I'm pretty sure tma is already over so it's not like my criticism is going to change anything anyway. It's just that, as an aspiring author myself, this is just something that was bothering me as having distinct voices for different characters and an understanding of how different characters think, talk, and write is something i think of as very important. The smallest of things can do a lot for characterization and reveal a lot about a character so it really bothers me how everyone sounds so similar in terms of vocabulary and pattern

So ! The TCFAD series first. You already know that one, it's the Parting Gift series I'm currently writing. The rest of the fics are coming. I'm just slow to write.

But yeah, kinda works for a character study cus it very much explores Jon's psyche after his kidnapping and his Circus trauma, with the added bonus of bringing Tim into the mix and being a sorta fix it (lie).

And that fits the 100k words well. Fic one was 12.5k words. Fic two is well on its way to be at least 20-30k, and fic 3 will be at least 20k, so... that's already a lot. And there's still the maybe fic 4 that I need to decide if I can make it viable. If I do, it'll likely be a 50k words one so. Def checks out there, lol.

The TMIAATTTMG AU is the JonGerry Friendship one I talked about on Discord a while ago ! The one I made a Jom design for over here.

The narrative is non-linear, exploring both the Assistants in 2015, discovering what the hell is going on, and Jon and Gerry in 2011 as Jon's promotion as Archival Assistant for Gertrude proves to be. Something for sure.

Definitely going to be a very long fic, though I'm not sure about the word count yet. And very much character study in the divergence.

Finally, the Nightfields Wake AU ! Full name of this baby is Somewhere Else : Nightfields Wake.

In this, we follow 15 years old ADHD child Jonathan Sims as he and his adopted siblings prove that their calm little town is, in fact, a cover-up for multiple cults. And their adoptive dad is the leader of one. And, apparently, he wanted to sacrifice three of them to make Jon into his messiah. What a mess.

A very comedic and absurd tone for that one, although there is some good angst at some point. The subtext is important, though. Also a long AU, we cover the whole series in this setting, so strap on for a wild one.

I can share snips of all three AUs if you want btw. Just Ask (preferably on the other account though cuz this one isn't much for TMA stuff).

ok no hate i’m just genuinely curious: if you dislike tma so much, why spend so much time and energy posting about it?

i totally understand being critical of a piece of media, it’s good for any sort of community to not be one big echo chamber and it leaves room for good conversations etc etc. i don’t deny that the writing of tma is very flawed in some places (and i’m not too fond of martin either, just maybe not on the same level as you lol) but across 3 blogs and however many years, does it not get repetitive or exhausting to talk about something you might not even like that much so often?

Crossovers are my everything!!! I love super weird combo crossovers so any time i join new fandom my mind is already looking for anything that can be turned into a crossover. Soooo- Before I listened to the TMA podcast I saw people commenting that EVERYTHING can be TMA reference. I was very intrigued. So now i am on 25th episode and yk... Take ANY movie/videogames/tv show with supernatural elements and then youd be able to connect it to the TMA universe and 💥 boom. It will make sense. Any fandom can be crossover-ed w TMA. | Obviously the first tv show that came into my mind was Supernatural duh. and there ARE a couple of fanfics about spn/tma. Then i thought about my favourite horror videogames!! Imagine my disappointment when i searched for Until dawn(or any other supermassive production game)/TMA fanfics AND found nothing! Cmon, do u see THE vision? | Also think about supernatural/until dawn crossover!! This idea lives rent free in my head and I wanted to share it for a long time! my first ever headcanon regarding these two fandoms was- imagine sam and mike being the only survivors and became hunters(spn style ) after the incident. Idk why it's just Sam And Mike and not anyone else but ig thats because after playing the game i kinda saw .. chemistry between them? and started shipping them. When i finished the quarry I realised that Max/Laura give off the same couple -hunters energy... or until dawn/the quarry crossovers! There are also a couple of these but damn I wish there were more. id write if I could

Jonah's fashion sense. I understand the appeal of eye paraphernalia in terms of character design and how it's more fun that way but. he would never. he loves being a boring bureaucrat, I just can't imagine him wearing something as fun as eye earrings/rings. the max he gets is green suit lining

(also Elias is not a twink, he is in his late 40s minimum. give that old man his wrinkles and crow's feet pleeeease 😭 regency era Jonah was a twink tho, no argument here)

this one is more of a fic thing but Jonah doesn't tend to overreact. Gertrude and Leitner were exceptions. Getrude was going to destroy the Archives and kill him and Leitner almost ruined his plan for Jon (which he does admit was an overreaction). but he doesn't yell! he isn't emotional or hysterical. sorry if I am not making sense, I just get easily irritated by people not putting any effort into writing him. my beloved bastard is the worst, but please hate him accurately
