An interesting thing about Manolo/Zatz…

Alright I need to talk about something… Manolo and Zatz are really interesting and complex characters. They seem to hide in their families shadows a lot.

Let’s start off with something I noticed with Manolo or the old tbol covers.

I’m pretty sure we all seen the old tbol cover but if you haven’t

Fresh huh. These (especially the top two) seems to show that Manolo seems to hide behind the darkness, or if we wanna say trapped instead.

Now the one I wanna look at is this one

Al you can kinda see, Manolo is reaching out tawords Maria who is reaching out for him.

This reminded me of sm. This

These drawings of Zatz is from Jorge doing a deviant art tutorial.

Jorge describes Zatz’ hair as a hand reaching out and showing himself.

Which if you go back to the poster, is a lot like Manolo.

In both films they seem to hide behind their family’s or etc. not showing their true selves at the end.

Which comes to Maria and Maya. They are both shown to he rebellious girls who couldn’t care about less about relationships.

The thing I love about them is that they didn’t fall in love with Manolo and Zatz until the end.

If you like the watch Jorge’s interviews and cons, than you know that at the end of one of them he said

“The princess saves the prince”

This is hinting tawords Maya saving Zatz. Which if we go back to the poster, Maria is saving Manolo.

In all, Maria, and Maya, and the light that saves Manolo, and Zatz, who are hidden behind this darkness and are scared to be their true selves.

I’m on chapter 8 of Maya and the Three and I love how Queen Teca and Lady Micte interact with each-other. Like yeah this is the child of my husband and a goddess and I’ll raise her as my own, I’m mad but that’s not her fault and yeah this is my daughter I had with your husband and could only rarely visit her and she never knew about me but thanks for raising her and now their just her two mums.

Headcanon time!

Zatz sings, but in secret. He loves to sing, but due to the circumstances he lived in the Underworld and the constant mockery and harassment from other gods, he decided to hide it.

Usually, he sings only at night and his only listeners are the bats as his company in his home or just pass by.

I also like to think that, being already god of the moon, his singing can be heard at night when there is a full moon. (Maya would find out eventually, of course.)

I haven’t seen others talking about it but shot out to Maya from Maya and the Three for being such a great character: from the very beginning she is shown to be rowdy and tomboyish,but instead of becoming a completely different person by the end of the series she works on her flaws (such as impulsivity and lying) without changing these aspects of herself. She took her mothers advice to be more diplomatic without putting down her macuahuitl. She loves her friends,family and Zatz equally,without one outweighing the other. Her love for them motivated her to finish off Mictlan.She is silly,she is heroic,she is strong,she is loving.She is the sun.
