Welcome to the Maze Runner Reverse Bang 2019! This is a collaborative event where fandom artists and fic authors will work together to create some amazing pieces!

Sign ups are now open! They close for artists on July 10 and for authors on August 7.

But what is a reverse bang? First, artists (drawing, edits, etc) will create a brand new piece. Then, through an anonymous process, authors will be matched with art they’re interested in and write a fic based on it. You’ll not only make some amazing TMR content, you might also make a new friend along the way. 

Artists will be expected to make one of the following:

(1) gifset, at least 6 gifs

(1) aesthetic board, at least 6 images

(1) drawing/painting, that is not a sketch

(1) playlist, at least 8 songs, with accompanying album cover

(1) fanvid, at least 1 minute long

Authors will be expected to write a complete fic that is at least 3000 words long.  

You can sign up to be a beta too!

Artists will submit their art and a content description by August 9. Afterwards, authors will be able to see the art and details, but won’t know who made what; they’ll submit at least five options they want to write for and be matched with the fandom.love algorithm. Fics are due by September 27.

what's your all-time favorite ship?

do i need to say it again. how many times must i vocalize my crimes. it’s newtmas. i’m so sorry class. i wish i was more exciting

13! which is more than i ever thought i would write lol

212,991.....good god. i know that’s not a lot compared to other people but it’s a lot to me lol

what are your top five fics by kudos?

Therapy Dogs and Comic Books (by a landslide), 2 A.M. Phone Calls (why), The Watch Tower (whyyy), Therapy Dogs and Comic Books: The Ficlets (girl help), In the Dark (WHY)

do you reply to comments, why or why not?

for my first few fics i did. then (and this will sound like a flex) with therapy dogs the amount of comments became so overwhelming that i had to pick and choose which ones to reply to? which led to me not replying to every one for a while even after that, but now i’m back to replying to everything. i like it better this way, i think it shows appreciation for the people who not only read but made the effort to comment, and then it also makes me feel like my stuff is actually being read lol

fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

i feel like it has to be 250 because it’s literally just a drabble of that scene from newt’s POV, so.

fic you've written with the happiest ending?

it’s gotta be Therapy Dogs and Comic Books: The Ficlets because it was literally a follow-up fic just to say “and they lived happily ever after.” enough people had commented wanting a sequel that i felt like i had to make one, and i couldn’t think of another way to end it. now every fic i write is basically anti- that where the ending is either bittersweet or ambiguous lol

do you write crossovers?

no, i’ve pretty much only ever written for and about the maze runner

have you ever received hate on a fic?

nah, i’ve gotten some critique comments and stuff but no outright hatred as far as i’m aware of

do you write smut? if so what kind?

i’ve never written full smut, i have a lead-up to sex scene in one fic and some...kithing :o in another but i don’t feel comfortable writing (or honestly reading) full smut

have you ever had a fic stolen?

again not as far as i know. my early fics can be stolen and i wouldn’t care tho lol

have you ever had a fic translated?

yes, actually! 2 A.M. Phone Calls was translated in French by a sweetheart named Mathiiel! no idea why someone would want to do that but i think it’s so neat

have you ever co-written a fic before?

i haven’t co-written anything but i did a reverse bang in 2019 where i wrote a fic (knight in dull armor) based on someone’s gifset so that’s sort of similar? 

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

i don’t actively start any fics i never intend to finish. i’ve written random one-shot drabbles here and there but i never go into those with the intention of making them a full fic. if i had to say anything i would say that i really wanted to write a Grease au for a long time just bc it’s my favorite movie but there’s really no logical way to make it work lol

what are your writing strengths?

none. hope this helps <3

genuinely i don’t know. i don’t understand how my writing process works i just black out and wake up with a google doc ready. i’ve gotten compliments on dialogue and worldbuilding so i guess i’ll say that, even if i don’t get it lol

what are your writing weaknesses?

actually writing lol

i don’t know if it’s obvious for readers but i reeeeaaaally struggle with describing emotions. i think this stems from me as a person not knowing how to explain them about myself so it takes me a long time to translate emotions into text, and even then i’m usually not happy with it

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

like...me doing it or...? because i only know english sadhjsad and i’m Not going to pretend otherwise (although i might need help with this current WIP for some parts lol) other people doing it i don’t have much experience reading so i don’t think i have an opinion 

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

i technically wrote a fic for Agents of Shield about Fitzsimmons. it was a short story for a class i took in high school. it exists on the internet but not my ao3 account for obvious reasons. other than that i’ve only ever written for tmr

what's your favorite fic you've written?

it has to be all we do is drive because i first conceptualized it literally 5 years ago, and i tried and tried to write it every year since i first came up with it until 2019-2020 when i finally sat down and figured it out. it is absolutely my magnum opus and i’m really proud of it. i do also love kenopsia but that fic is so fucking weird that i sort of look at it like my lab accident

If, of course, there were a job to do. When Gipsy closed the Breach they'd all thought it was over, and 9 months of peace had cemented that fact. But when the alarms go off again and a new Kaiju emerges, their Jaeger Chuckie might well be the last thing standing between their world and the worst kind of destruction... the kind that comes from within.
