Happy 10-Year Treemas Anniversary!

history of treemas

alright i decided to make this post because it’s an important part of fandom history also i need an easier way to explain it to greenies so let’s go

november 10th, i read tmr to my then-girlfriend and we notice, “Some instinct took over his actions and without saying anything he [Thomas] … walked to a nearby tree, where he plopped down to sit with his back against the rough bark” (8). Then, later, “Thomas was more than happy to get away from the house, and headed back towards the tree” (21).

and that was it, she made a comment about how he kept going back to this tree and said ‘i ship it!!’

november 10th, i made this post with a joking request for graphics (little did i know)

november 10th, the creation of the ship name, and treemas is officially born

november 11th, the first graphic is made and it is beautiful

~november 11th, a fanfic is written, and another(i don’t know which came first) i die inside just a little bit. 

november 11th, actors for the tree are considered

november 11th, this graphic is made, everyone cries

december 17th, les mis on my own, treemas version

january 8th, this video takes on a whole new meaning for the tmrfandom

january 12th, potatopocalypse is happening, newtatoes is born, treemas is mentioned and the tree is now named fernella

january 23rd, another fanfic is written, it’s wonderful

january 24th, beautiful fanart is made

january 25th, the fandom is under pressure during the mtv movie brawl, i draw treemas on my arm

january 25th, a fanmix is made, everyone cries because it’s so beautiful

march 16th, treemas is defined in thefandomsdictionary (i send it to the original shipper, she is excited)

march 17th, gifs of the proof of treemas

april 22nd, earth day, talk about loving trees, treemas was inevitable

may 7th, this happens

may 8th, promotional photos have trees in them, it’s beautiful

july 30th, promotional photos continue to have trees in them, thomas is hugging one, what did you expect us to do

august 3rd, it continues

august 16th, treemas is everywhere

and yeah. treemas basically won’t die. anything i missed (people’s general love for this ship and explanations) can be found in my tag and the tag

In Scorch Trails when Minho makes sure Thomas eats before even finishing his own food after days of being starved

Thomas: You’re stunning.

Minho: … You’re forgiven.

"Minho?" Thomas whispered into the darkness of their hut. He didn't receive a response. Thomas sat up, blanket pooling in his lap. He looked over at Minho once more.

"Minho?" He tried once more.

"Mmm?" He lifted his head from where it laid squashed into a pillow.

"I-can I do something?"

"It's still dark outside. What do you need to do?" Minho rubbed at his eyes as he pushed himself up. He turned to Thomas, sitting up in their bed of leaves and sheets.

"I've been thinking about something for... a pretty long time." Thomas fiddled with his fingers.

"What?" Minho yawned.

Thomas felt bad about waking him up. They were part of the dawn patrol tomorrow.

"I,um, nevermind," Thomas cursed hi.self.for chickening out.

"You've already woken me up, so spill." Minho scratched at his stomach.

"Don't be mad." Thomas hesitated.

"I won't, promise." Minho shot him a bright smile.

Thomas nodded. He waited a second before he found himself leaning forward. His lips barely brushed the corner of Minho's mouth before he pulled away with a flush.

Minho tilted his head as he stared at him. "Why would I be mad at that?"

Minho grinned as he pushed forward and caught his lips in another chaste kiss. Thomas' hand cupped Minho's cheek as they fell back. Their lips slid off each other as Minho landed in Thomas' lap.

Minho chuckled as he turned his head and looked up at Thomas. "That all?"

"Yeah," Thomas said softly as he brushed a hand through Minho's hair.

"Good."

"Whatcha doin' there?" I asked, leaning over Minho's shoulder

It looked like some sort of letter. A scroll of dark paper, words written neatly in black ink.

The writing didn't match Minho's though.

He jumped when I spoke, scrambling to cover up whatever the paper was.

Maybe this is that smut scroll Thomas told me about?

"uh- uh- nothing- just- a thing-" He stuttered, giving me a panicked and awkward smile.

I placed my hand on his shoulder and looked into his eyes, "Listen Minho. This is completely natural. And I understand if-"

I guessed I was wrong when his face contorted into disgust.

"No! Maria! This is not the smut scroll-" His eyes flickered back and forth, hand gestures going everywhere.

"Ok! Ok! Sorry!" I laughed, "So what is it shank?"

"Well- I- uh-" He began to stumble over his words again, "Here."

Minho uncovered the paper and handed it to me.

I found a paragraph of sentences in a nice manuscript.

Maria

Maria is nice.

Maria is beautiful.

Maria is my best friend.

Maria is lovely.

Maria is wonderful.

Maria makes me laugh.

I like Maria.

"Minho?- Did you?" I look up to meet his eyes

"Learn some calligraphy for you? Yea," He rubbed the back of his neck, "It's really stupid I know, I'm a shuck-faced slinthead. But you said you liked calligraphy, so I just thought- Never mind. It's klunk."

He began to take the paper from me, obviously embarrassed, and the red on his cheeks only growing.

"No! No!," I tugged back, "Minho I love it!"

His head snapped up, features shocked, "Really?"

"Of course! It's so sweet of you! I'm so flattered!"

"Well..." He rubbed the back of his neck, ego puffing a bit, "Yea"

I patted his adorable smiling face, "I'm taking this with me"

So uhm yea.

I literally wrote this in 15 minutes.
