th thing is w typing by letter w mbti it just straight up doesnt make sense . not to be the Well I think It Depends guy but it truly does depend and typinf by letter doesnt rlly give u room for tht ... an i have beef w th usage of introvert/extrovert in general tbh cuz th definition i learned ws "gains energy alone/gains energy around others" which is just straight up stupid imo, unfortunately for some of us humans r a social species ... i think people prefer to have small groups or maybe one close person but nobody likes to be truly alone . i think everyone needs connections even if socializing isnt their best skill an considering its so important not to self isolate doing it a lil stupid is better than not at all, an self-proclaimed "introverts" love romanticizinf complete social isolation i think, at least thats the feeling i get from introverts who talk about it alot . MBTI typings + analysis of weak hero class characters

disclaimer: this analysis would be based on cognitive functions, so please don't tag this post with "why is he an e, he should be an i" or something like that. please read about cognitive functions, it's life-changing.

and this is my personal observation and analysis, so i'm not claiming 100% accuracy. but i have been studying mbti typology for 5 years, and i believe my hyperfixation on weak hero characters is strong enough to offer an interpretation that's atleast in the right ballpark. feel free to share your own opinions, though.

yeon sieun — INTJ (Ni-Te-Fi-Se)

INTJs lead with introverted intuition (Ni), which means they're constantly absorbing patterns and projecting outcomes. that’s essentially sieun’s entire combat strategy. he fights with foresight, not force. his brain is always several moves ahead, calculating silently before acting. he also has auxiliary extraverted thinking (Te), which makes him prioritize efficiency. this explains why he’d rather stab someone with a pen and end the fight cleanly than try to brawl with someone much stronger than him. it's just more efficient.

INTJs have tertiary Fi (introverted feeling), which acts like a quiet internal moral compass. it’s always there in the background, nagging him. it's not loud enough to dictate his decisions, but still present in case he changed his mind. that’s why he hesitates to help juntae at first. not out of apathy, but because the voice in his head keeps getting suppressed by his dominant intuition, which keeps telling him to mind his own business. it keeps warning him of the consequences of getting involved. however, he takes action when he finally listens to his tertiary Fi telling him, you know it’s the right thing to do.

his inferior Se (extraverted sensing) makes him inattentive to his physical environment unless it directly interferes with his internal world. he's never interested or notices people around him, unless his peace is disrupted. a blatant example of this is when he completely misses seongje showing up at suho’s hospital. he doesn’t register what's happening around him until it directly concerns him.

he’s also emotionally private (typical INTJ trait — they don’t like performing vulnerability). sieun is more expressive in his unread text messages to suho than he ever is face-to-face. it's a classic Ni-Fi wall: he feels deeply, but processes everything internally, where no one can touch it.

ahn suho — ESTP (Se-Ti-Fe-Ni)

ESTPs are sensor-thinkers, grounded in the present and driven by logic. suho’s dominant Se (extraverted sensing) makes him highly reactive to his environment. he only intervenes when he senses something is wrong; not out of moral obligation, and definitely not out of concern for consequences. his instincts are fast, physical, and attuned to danger. we see this in his professional fighting skills (MMA trainee and all) and athletic abilities. it's also obvious in the way he expresses love through action, taking on tiring jobs for his grandma without complaint, teaching sieun how to fight. it's a classic Se expression of love: fixing, serving, fighting, guiding.

his Ti (introverted thinking) is what makes him sharp. he’s logical and objective, but not necessarily fair, because he's not led by morals (which doesn't mean that he doesn't have morals at all, but it's not the driver of his decisions). he's loyal to who he cares about, not to any sense of abstract justice. like how he’ll go to hell and back for sieun, but won’t extend that same energy to everyone (this can be backed up by sumin pd, who pointed out that unlike baku, who protects the whole school, suho only protects sieun. baku has a higher moral compass, as a high Fi-user, but more on that later). his humour is also very Ti-coded; dry, clever, and often rooted in logic ("how can you talk about food while eating?" "you talk about life while living it").

tertiary Fe (extraverted feeling) gives him just enough charm and emotional fluency to read a room, crack a joke, or comfort someone. but it’s also fragile. he gets defensive fast, especially when misunderstood or unfairly blamed (like how he gets physically aggressive when beomseok starts beefing with him for no reason). weak Fe makes him take criticism personally and lash out emotionally.

he also has inferior Ni, which means his intuition is weak, and he rarely thinks ahead. like when he gets into gilsu’s car without a solid plan. he improvises well (texting sieun from his watch), but forgets to consider that gilsu could check his phone too.

personality-wise, sieun and suho are actually a lethal pair in combat. sieun has the sixth sense of an Ni-dom, while suho has the reflexes of an Se-dom. but romantically, they’re lowkey doomed. a tertiary Fi and tertiary Fe pair. neither are good at emotional communication. both express love through action and protection, not words.

oh beomseok — INFP (Fi-Ne-Si-Te)

beomseok runs almost entirely on introverted feeling (Fi), a deeply internal moral compass that tells him this is right even when it objectively… isn’t. healthy Fi stands for staying true to your values and beliefs. unhealthy Fi becomes a justification engine. and beomseok's Fi has been warped by years of trauma. that’s how we go from offering to pay suho to save sieun from bullies to wanting to destroy suho for betraying him. he does what he feels is just. the line between good and evil becomes how do i feel about it, and the trauma twists those feelings into something darker.

his Ne (extraverted intuition) gives him imagination and ideas, but unchecked, it creates spirals; overthinking, projection, paranoia. like how he starts believing that suho and sieun were replacing him with youngyi.

tertiary Si (introverted sensing) makes him cling to what’s familiar. that’s why youngyi’s addition to their group unsettles him: she disrupts the group dynamic he’s grown attached to.

his inferior Te (extraverted thinking), the logic function, is like a faint alarm bell in the back of his mind, whispering this won’t end well, but Fi drowns it out. he knows best. or thinks he does.

youngyi — ESFP (Se-Fi-Te-Ni)

youngyi leads with dominant Se, paired with Fi — which means she lives in the moment, feels things deeply, and owns it. she’s unapologetically herself, unbothered by rejection, which is exactly the kind of ability that gets her to befriend someone as guarded as sieun. she isn’t intimidated by anyone. she's grounded in the present, quick to act, and physically assertive, often responding to situations with bold, instinctive energy.

what sets her apart from suho (who's also an Se-dom), though, is that her actions aren't filtered through detached logic (Ti), but through a strong internal value system (auxiliary Fi). she doesn’t analyze her choices with practical calculation, she feels her way through them, led by what resonates with her personally.

but Fi also governs identity. so when beomseok accuses her of ruining the group, and essentially causing suho’s coma, it doesn’t just sting, it shatters her. she doesn’t just feel attacked; she feels like her sense of self is broken. that's why she disappears from everyone's lives, because how can she face sieun, when she can't face herself? that’s the danger of Fi: when it internalizes blame, it takes everything personally.

park humin (baku) — ENFP (Ne-Fi-Te-Si)

ENFPs are chaos with a conscience. and baku is no exception. baku’s auxiliary Fi makes him emotionally honest and morally anchored, but his dominant Ne keeps his mind in motion, always bouncing between possibilities, fears, and imagined futures. that’s why he hesitates to fight again (because what if it ends the way it did with gotak?) but when something triggers his core values (Fi), when someone he loves is in danger, he acts out. consequences be damned.

he jokes around to defuse tension, but he's deeply intuitive, emotionally attuned, and cares more than he lets on. it’s why he’s one of the only people who can get someone like sieun to open up; not by forcing it, but by simply being emotionally available, non-judgmental, and real.

while his high Fi gives him access to vulnerability, it also acts as a strong boundary. he refuses to work with baekjin, despite his history with him, because it violates his sense of right and wrong, because baekjin brutally hurt gotak and ruined his career, which is unforgivable. he only crosses that boundary when threatened and forced.

baku’s tertiary Te is blunt, explosive, and reactive, especially under stress. it acts before planning. when stressed, he grabs for Te, takes charge, punches first, thinks later. his Fi follows his own moral compass. he refuses to fight and preaches non-violence. but when people precious to him are hurt, he almost chokes a guy to death.

seo juntae — ISFJ (Si-Fe-Ti-Ne)

juntae is the emotional backbone of the group. ISFJs are built to nurture, and his Fe (extraverted feeling), paired with Si (introverted sensing), makes him deeply attuned to others' emotional needs. he notices sieun skipping meals, withdrawing, and not sleeping. his Si gives him observational memory; he tracks patterns and changes, then responds with quiet care.

he’s the only character with strong Fe in the whole cast, which is why he's the only one who genuinely hates conflict, and is the peace-maker of the gang, readily resolving misunderstandings and arguments between his friends. Fe also gives him strong empathy, which is what makes him slow to judge. he can easily read tone and emotional behaviour. it’s why he doesn’t believe sieun when sieun lies and says he doesn’t want to be friends anymore, because he knows it’s not true. he’s the one who tells both sieun and bakugotak that the other doesn’t mean what they’re saying.

Fe + Si makes him the one person who understands without demanding. he’s the first to tell sieun, "it’s not your fault," not because he thinks it’ll help, but because he knows it will. and yet, he holds grudges. because Si doesn’t forget. that’s why he refuses to forgive hyoman, even after he joins their side.

go hyuntak (gotak) — ISTP/ESTP (Ti-Se or Se-Ti)

this might be a controversial take since gotak is often typed as an ISFP, but i see a strong mix of Ti and Se in how he operates. i'm still unsure which one leads, but what’s clear is that he’s an active, physical, and analytical thinker. he’s impatient, yes, but also deliberate. he observes, processes, then acts, like when he tells juntae to escape before counting opponents in the underpass fight with seongje, or when he decides to fact-check the rumor that sieun wants to fight him instead of reacting right away.

his Se is undeniable: he’s aggressive, athletic, and always grounded in his body. even after quitting taekwondo, he stays physically engaged, taking up basketball, aggressively skipping rope despite his bad knee, because “he has to do something.” that’s textbook Se: movement as expression. like suho (another high Se user), gotak communicates care through physical action; teaching juntae to fight, teaching sieun how to play basketball, physically lashing out when hyoman insults baku, or breaking into the union garage when baku disappears, even though sieun asked him not to. he acts because he has to: Ti wants clarity, Se wants momentum.

but what truly leans him toward xSTP is his low Fe. His emotional communication is clumsy; he needs baku to prompt him to apologize or say thanks. His Ti strives to stay calm and factual, but his emotions; protectiveness, irritation, and loyalty; simmer just beneath the surface. he doesn’t judge quickly (a sign of Fe-awareness), like how he defends sieun from trashy gossip despite a rocky first impression of him. still, like suho, he lashes out when he feels misunderstood, like when he says cruel things to sieun during their fallout. And with low Ni he rarely thinks far ahead; breaking into the garage wasn’t a plan, just Ti-logic and Se-impulse running full speed.

gotak is a head-heart-body kind of character. he’s loyal without needing to say it, perceptive without being flashy, and thoughtful in a language that often goes unnoticed.

geum seongje — ENTP (Ne-Ti-Fe-Si)

this is really the easiest one to type because seongje is a textbook ENTP: chaotic intellect.

dominant Ne makes him erratic, unpredictable, and dangerously flexible. he's constantly probing, experimenting, and testing limits. people are like a puzzle to deconstruct. Ne is the function that gives you the skill and urge to explore multiple possibilities, which explains how seongje can justify switching sides mid-fight if it feels fun. he'd join his enemies, then betray them for the punchline.

his tertiary Fe doesn’t function like suho or gotak’s, who pair Fe with Se. while suho and gotak are highly reactive and defensive over them/their loved ones being insulted or misunderstood, seongje’s Fe is more detached. he treats insults like jokes ("is it fun playing na baekjin's minion?" "it is fun. i get to beat up losers like you.").

his Fe makes him socially aware, but it's not a strength, it's weaponized. he understands emotional tones, social roles, and twists them to provoke or entertain. he mocks sincerity (like how he laughs at gotak over his protectiveness for juntae) but still craves attention and reaction (feels hurt because baekjin didn't ask him if he was okay after fighting with sieun).

so ENTP makes seongje unpredictable, perceptive, and always a step ahead.

na baekjin — ENTJ (Te-Ni-Se-Fi)

baekjin, as an ENTJ, is essentially a more dangerous, volatile version of sieun. he's smart, strategic, and ruthlessly efficient; a master planner who relies on his introverted intuition (Ni), to forecast outcomes and his extroverted thinking (Te), to execute them with precision. to baekjin, efficiency isn’t just useful; it’s everything. he doesn’t waste time on what feels good or what’s morally right, only what gets results.

but his inferior Fi (introverted feeling) means he lacks the internal framework to process emotions authentically. he struggles to recognize emotional nuance, both in himself and in others, which leaves him disconnected from his own vulnerability. that’s why, instead of just saying “don’t leave me,” he orchestrates emotional hostage scenarios (like threatening to hurt gotak) to keep baku close. it's twisted, but, to him, weirdly efficient. and in baekjin’s world, effectiveness often replaces intimacy.

he knows what works, not what's right. he weaponizes logic without empathy. and you can’t out-think him, because he’s already seen your next ten moves and calculated exactly where you’ll land.

baekjin uses control and intelligence as a shield, mastering manipulation to avoid vulnerability.

Rolan's Personality Type

So, when responding to @sleketon-or-slekky's post on what Rolan's MBTI would be, I wondered if I should try writing an "essay" on it. Mind you, I have never written a character essay before and I'm not entirely sure how it works, but there is a first time for everything and I thought the topic was interesting enough to share my thoughts on as best as I can. However, I won't make any extreme deep dives as I am not a professional, so I'll keep it pretty basic but still explain my understanding of it. Do take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Before I start, I want to point out that personality typology such as Myers Briggs type indicator, enneagram, astrology and everything else that falls under the term are highly unreliable to use on real people, as every individual is too complex to perfectly fit into one box or another. Personality types are mostly regarded as pseudoscience in psychology, so in my opinion, they shouldn't be applied to anything other than entertainment and fiction.

Anyway, let's begin.

MBTI, or Myers Briggs type indicator: The Prodigy

I think a lot of people on the internet have heard of MBTI before, which is a pretty straightforward tool to find your personality among 16 distinct types based on four letters that make up your functions. Introversion or Extroversion, Intuition or Sensing, Thinking or Feeling, and Judging or Perceiving. You're either one or the other of all four of these categories and they explain how you operate as a person. Of course, no one person is strictly a feeler and never thinks logically, and nobody is entirely extroverted and prefers to spend all their time around people. The lines blur somewhere, but the letters are based on how you function the majority of the time.

A lot of us know what Introversion and Extroversion are, but most people don't exactly know what they mean. It's not just about whether or not you like being around people, but when and where you get your energy. Some people prefer to be on their own to recharge, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they dislike people or struggle with being social. Others get their energy from being among friends and family, but that doesn't mean that they refuse to be alone or are unable to recharge in solitude.

As it is with NPCs, we haven't seen enough of Rolan to tell for certain whether he's an extrovert or introvert, but you can get a general idea from your interactions with him. He seems to strive for renown, dreaming of his name being known "far and wide". He wants all eyes on him, and though he could be feigning confidence, I also think it's tightly linked to who he is, as he genuinely seems to value being someone others look up to. He thrives in environments where he gets to show off his skills and he responds well to praise and applause. Those who aspire to be in the spotlight are often rather extroverted people, whether or not it is a coping mechanism. So I'll give him an E (don't worry, babe. I'm not grading you).

Then there is Intuition and Sensing. It means you either utilise concrete thinking as you analyse the world around you (Sensing) or abstract thinking as you regard the "what if"s of a situation rather than the tangible (Intuition).

Rolan is a very concrete and literal person. He's highly focused on the things that are in front of him, and the things that are the most important: The safety of his siblings and his apprenticeship waiting for him in Baldur's gate. He is laser-focused on both, and he's practical enough to act on achieving them by all means. He doesn't stop and let his imagination do the work for him, he's hellbent on continuing forward and learning all that he can. So much so that he didn't think to question if Lorroakan's treatment of him was entirely necessary, as he thought it was the prize he had to pay "to become a true wizard". He saw his abuse as a test and it seemed reasonable to him. He is also very good at taking past experiences into account as a way of learning from them, which is brilliant for his character development. So, I give him an S (because he's S-teir).

Thinking and Feeling are often discussed when it comes to MBTI. If feelers are nothing but illogical crybabies, and thinkers are unfeeling machines. Both are entirely untrue, of course. Some lean more into their feelings than others, while some focus more on the facts, but that doesn't mean that the former can't practice logic and rational thinking and the latter are unempathetic and hold no sentimental values. We're still human (humanoid in Rolan's case).

Rolan comes off as unfeeling the first time you meet him. He wants to leave the grove and the refugees behind to continue onward to Baldur's gate, refusing to stay and help. I've read plenty of great character analysis posts on why that is his stance, and they've all painted a good picture of him as a person and what he has potentially been through as a child when you take his mannerisms into account, which are rather atypical compared to the other tieflings. But I won't get into that, because now we're talking about our feelings! I can say straight off the bat that Rolan is a highly rational person. He does things because they make sense and not necessarily because they feel right. It makes sense to leave the grove because one: They have places to be and he "cannot be late", and two: These people won't make it otherwise. If you and your companions hadn't arrived, he would've been right. Why stay and defend a bunch of strangers that will ultimately die, when you have the chance to bring your family to safety? He doesn't hold anything back either, as he says what he thinks, even if it makes him appear in a less savoury light. But it can also be said that his emotions do fuel the things he says, especially when he lashes out at you in Act 2 after losing Cal and Lia. But like I said, he's a person. So, I give him a strong T (for our Testy grump).

Lastly, we have Judging and Perceiving. Either you're a very organised and schedule-oriented person. You're less open-ended, focus more on efficiency than flexibility and want to have things determined and prepared (Judging). Or, you're a far more spontaneous person who doesn't want to restrict your options. You want to have the opportunity to explore your interests and alternatives freely without being tied to timetables and intricate plans (Perceiving).

I think I've pretty much established that Rolan is single-mindedly focused on getting to Baldur's gate and starting his apprenticeship. Little else can infringe on that plan and whenever he has no choice but to postpone it, he gets noticeably stressed and upset. Speaking to him at the tiefling party, an occasion which is a distraction from the current course of action, he reveals that it wasn't his decision to come, but Cal and Lia's. He's decisive, stubborn as an ass and wants things to go according to his expectations, and when they don't, it tests his patience and puts him ill at ease. With his every plan, he makes it abundantly clear that he will follow through with them no matter what. No matter if it means conquering the shadow curse to save his siblings. No matter if it means being frequently verbally and physically abused to achieve his dream. No matter if he has to rip his newly-acquired tower apart to find a way to help you fight the Absolute. He is stalwart and orderly, which is admirable, but his aversion to any form of help has come with its share of consequences. Thus I'll give our beloved tiefling a J (I don't have a clever joke for that one).

So, that would mean that he falls on Extroversion, Sensing, Thinking and Judging. Or to put it simply: ESTJ.

An ESTJ, also known as the "executive" or "supervisor" (as referred to by 16personalities and Truity respectively), is a hard-working, traditional and dedicated individual who appreciates orderly and methodical approaches to their everyday life. They're assertive and efficient and want structure and control of their physical and social environment, while also being highly resilient and determined. They're grounded and see things for what they are and how they can be improved, often taking inspiration from past problems and solutions, and they're mostly at home in a setting where they're in the lead, therefore shining in roles as managers and directors of both themselves and others. Although they can be unapologetically straightforward and honest, they're incredibly loyal and reliable, staying true to their word and never breaking their promises.

An ESTJ, however, is rigid and unyielding. They can be uptight and have strong convictions in their beliefs of what is right and wrong, making them rather judgemental of those who do not fit their opinion of "right". Due to their extroversion and strong traditionalism, they can put a bit too much importance on status and have incredibly high standards for themselves.

Now, I am aware that it would be better to go into cognitive functions and assess which one of those he aligns with, but that would make this essay twice as long and a lot more convoluted than what I've already made it, but I'm pretty confident in my conclusion either way. I didn't intend to make this a deep dive and I think ESTJ fits him almost to a tee.

I don't know how exactly to conclude this. As I said, I've never done a character essay before and I've always had a hard time trusting my own judgement and opinions on things, but sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.

Is mbti pseudoscience ? Also what makes a term pseudoscience ? Is it the people involved? Lack of empirical evidence? Inability to replicate the results?

this is called the demarcation problem and philosophers of science have not settled it. i find this debate trite because it's generally framed around ahistorical, apolitical, asocial notions of 'science' as a set of disembodied ideas rather than as a family of knowledge practices occurring and evaluated in specific social contexts. for example, if we call phrenology a 'pseudoscience' we end up making nonsense of the historical observation that phrenological ideas were part of scientific discourses, practices, and experimentation throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. people measuring skulls and trying to map out localised brain functions were engaging in scientific activities; scientific inquiry is capable of producing ideas that are wrong, racist, internally contradictory, &c. one of the main ideological functions of the label 'pseudoscience' has been & continues to be providing a foil for its counterpart, the ideal of 'science' as an inherently noble and truth-producing activity.

it's dangerous to reify the sort of dichotomy that doesn't permit for the existence of scientific error, bias, or ideological taint; it also obscures the internal logic of previous modes of thinking and epistemological frameworks (bloodletting was not just something doctors did because they were stupid; astrology historically depended on particular cosmologies and philosophical axioms) and makes it extremely difficult to say anything worthwhile about practices and ideas that have been designated 'scientific' or 'pseudoscientific', 'orthodox' or 'heterodox', in different historical moments and places. it's easy to see the designation 'pseudoscience' as a neutral or even politically astute denigration of bullshittery or charlatanism, but consider also that powerful institutions, individuals, professional guilds, and states are just as capable of slinging accusations of 'pseudoscientificity' at those they wish to marginalise for various political and ideological reasons. one recent example of this is the fairly contentious argument over the basic and unfortunately true assertion that many respiratory illnesses, particularly covid, are airborne. the process of deciding whose ideas are bunk, and whose are proper science, occurs in social context just as much as the formation and dissemination of the ideas themselves does.

anyway if what you mean is "are the mbti categories real / fixed / universal human 'types'" then the answer is no, definitely not, it was always a philosophically unjustified taxonomy-forward attempt to bring jungian psychology to the masses that caught on with hiring departments and corporate consultants, and that more than a few people have compared to a kind of 'updated' astrological discourse on the 'personality' expressed in today's scientifically fashionable language rather than yesteryear's. now see if every psy-scientific discourse to which a similar critique applies were to be described as 'pseudoscience' then we would have an awfully hard time explaining what exactly are the professional activities their exponents are engaging in all day, and meanwhile we would have very handily preserved the fiction that there is some other, nobler, properly scientific discipline of psychology magically free of all such inconvenient history and conceptual baggage.

MBTI Observations 2: Observe Harder

○ xxTPs often make great teachers because their high Ti lends itself useful to explaining something in logical ways, and their lower Fe (if developed enough) can be used to figure out what their student doesn't understand, and how they might need the information rephrased so that it is easier to understand.

● ExxJs are REALLY good at predicting the endings of movies or shows - probably something to do with their dominant function being an objective judging function (Fe or Te), making it easy to spot the purpose of a story, and the easiest way to convey the message through the climax & resolution.

��� INxJs often get (reasonable) flack for not having very good kinesthetic abilities, but they often have approximately one (1) sensory ability that comes super naturally because the sheer willpower of dom Ni overrides the flaws of inferior Se. Introverted (I): Now I know many people see him as an extrovert. I argue he plays extroverted out of necessity. Although Arthur is often in the spotlight due to his royal position, he tends to process emotions and decisions internally. He’s reserved about personal feelings, often keeping a stoic exterior, particularly in moments of vulnerability. His introversion explains why in season 4 finale (the show only has 5 seasons), he told Merlin that Merlin was still his only friend, despite the fact that all the Knights of the Round had already been established! He clearly differentiates knights who would willingly give their lives from real friends. Arthur is so private that he doesn't even tell his wife things. In season 5, she casually said, "Arthur never tells me anything." Arthur only really lets Merlin in. (Because he loves Merlin, duh. lol)

Revealing Comic's Cover

Here is the comic cover I made for my assignment. I've finished it and the comic is ready for printing (the deadline is today). So I made this comic with my teammate, I created the stories, sketch and they helped me with coloring. I would tag them if I could but I don't think they own a Tumblr? Some explanation :

So the title of the comic is "Brain Cog" since you know Brain Fog + Cognitive Functions

The story tries to make Cognitive Functions more accessible to the public eye by using Inside Out method, giving it an actual person / body to do things with. This person hasn't had a name yet but I call them "user" from the MBTI's POV. I may talk about them more later

This was a very fun and insane experience because imagine having to explain what cognitive functions are to my lecturer and professional comic editors for midterm

So, I mentioned before how Clover's creative when it comes to a lot of stuff (more than they are grounded), but there's also the fact they can sing (that's how they spare Insomnitot), dance (not as much into it as Bailador, but they CAN dance), make puns (Gun-hat and how they wanted to make puns in the stable in Wild East; idk the exact line) are into drawing (in Axis' office, you'll get a text saying "You wish you could draw that well..."), video games (with Mew Mew) and they even know how to play the harmonica (from the teaser trailer), plus tend to zone out ↓

They constantly kept choosing kindness over what's right.

Those are PERSONAL values they have, that these monsters deserve forgiveness. I really think the inferior Te clashes with dominant Fi in their case. Clover wants to do what's objectively right and just, but at same time their heart is just too pure. They were able to empathise with everyone and get in everyone's shoes (also affectionate but that's a bonus) ↓

there's no change in their kindness from the beginning to end

Like if they were actually in court I don't think they'd act like a "typical" judge and deliver 100% fair consequences. No, that Fi kindness would ALWAYS win, like it did with Star and Ceroba.

Clover's Fi was always there, but differentiates depending on the route. In pacifist, they decided that everyone, in spite of what they objectively did wrong, should be forgiven and understood. In neutral, they decide whose actions were moral enough to get spared, and whose weren't. In geno, instead of killing five monsters, they wipe out anyone THEY think is in their way.

If they were Ti dominant they'd naturally be a lot more rigid and have/show a lot less empathy, imo. The Te inferior is present in geno bc they think they are dealing with the events in the outside world objectively, but the Fi is still there, that's why they don't stop killing: THEY are the one who thinks it should be this way. Clover wants to influence/control the outer world (Te; they don't spend a lot of time dwelling on their actions, unlike Ti users, Clover's a lot more forceful) based on how they subjectively think things should be (still that Fi except that it manifests differently than in pacifist). Clover as a thinker would naturally be more detached from emotions, but they're... they're not. Even in the beginning.

Inferior Te present their Fi opinions like they are objective Te facts - I found this line and it instantly reminded me of geno Clover. "Yeah, I'm right for killing everyone, even though I'm really not"

Clover becomes like a "manager of justice" when in their dark side. You step outta line, you're dead - that's kinda the "structure" I think we're talking about here. Still values over how logically to assess a situation, though. Ceroba calls them naive.

This means that Clover WANTS.... no, ALWAYS WANTED to approach the "missing children" situation like they're in control, but in reality, they were without a clear plan of what to do and how to do it. That's inferior Te.

On the contrary, in the vengance route, they step into their inferior function and take control... but at what cost.

As for their Si, we have the fact Clover remembers their past home life, remembers cramped living conditions, their responsibilities at home, the TV channel they "watched"...

All this stuff from the past contributed to them leaving for the Underground (aka affected their future). I really really don't think Clover has auxiliary Se. That would mean they're usually present-focused. But no, this kid's thought process feels more complex to me. As explained, Se mostly focuses on what's in front of them; Clover, while in the present, can think of the past (their home life), which then influences their future (jumping down Mt. Ebott). And when in the present, they can think of the far future (dying during their mission and therefore never coming back home or becoming an adult, and in the end the potential freedom of monsterkind) and recall the past vividly (all those things their friends told them throughout their journey)

They don't suspect Flowey's malicious, either. And even if some part of them didnt trust Ceroba, Clover never showed it or said anything out loud (not that i remember), and even if they did, they still chose to spare Axis since he is the only thing left of Chujin. That's naive, maybe. But Clover's REALLY REALLY REALLY sweet.

Speaking of Flowey... remember how he would often encourage Clover and tell them to have more confidence and that they "don't have to be scared" and "lean on him for emotional support" and that they should "have some faith in themselves too"? Yeah, that's the aspect of their personality that they had to work on; becoming the leader they were always meant to be.

Their arc feels like going from a scared kid to a great hero. Aka stepping into that inferior Te... the right way.

On why (I think) Sae is an INTJ

Itoshi Sae is currently typed as an ISTP on personality-database.com with 243 votes. Am I saying all those votes are wrong?

It can be a bit tricky to decide whether Sae is a J or P type, because J types tend to be more worried about how they are perceived by others, which Sae is not concerned about. I can see why people would think he is an IXXP type because of that.

However, these are an ISTPs MBTI functions as follows: Ti, Se, Ni, Fe. Which doesn't make sense for Sae and the way he plays soccer. Why?

Here's how Rin describes Sae's playstyle:

Key words being efficient, calculate and optimal.

This sounds a lot like extroverted thinking, which is a goal oriented function that values efficiency, and introverted intuition, that funnels sensory input into coming into an accurate conclusion (calculating the most optimal way to score). So, Sae's playstyle utilises Ni and Te rather than Ti and Se. Rin, who is typed as an INTJ on personality-database.com, was shown to have been emulating Sae's playstyle in the U20 match, when it's revealed that his original playstyle was more instinctual. So I don't know why people would think Sae isn't an INTJ, considering he was the original playmaker before Rin.

In fact, it would make more sense for Rin to be an ISTP rather than Sae. Auxiliary extroverted sensing can be explained to contribute to his instincts, which was better than Sae even at a younger age. Let me be clear, I do believe Rin is an INTJ, I'm just comparing the two.

Of course, one's playstyle doesn't define their MBTI type. But considering this is a soccer manga and we don't get many instances of seeing the characters not play soccer, this is what we have to work off on.

What's more, XNTJ types tend to be one-track minded due to introverted intuition (limited and deep focus, planning ahead) and extroverted thinking (goal oriented, ambition, efficiency), making them very driven to achieve a single goal. i'm glad you enjoyed my post about whc, and of course, i'd be more than happy to brief you about mbti. however, i hope you don't regret asking this question, because you might have unleashed a beast.

so, get ready for a quick mbti class! here's a little cheat sheet i made for your reference:

so basically, mbti operates on cognitive functions, which are just the mental processes we rely on to make decisions and understand the world. there are eight functions total, and each one is either:

introverted or extraverted (how you engage with your inner self versus how you engage with the external world)

judging or perceiving (deciding versus observing)

everyone has all eight functions, but in different orders. your mbti “type” (like INFP, ESTJ, etc.) is based on which four you use the most, and especially your top two, called the dominant and auxiliary functions. these two shape most of your personality.

if your dominant function is a perceiving function (N, S), then your auxiliary function would be a judging function (T, F). if one is extraverted, the other is introverted.

so if you're an ISTJ, for example, that doesn't mean you don't perceive at all. the S in ISTJ helps you perceive (through sensing), while the T helps you judge. J in your mbti just means that your judging function (T) makes the external part of your personality (so, Te), while your perceiving function (S) is who you are on the inside, (so Si).

now that we have that out of the way, let me brief you on all 16 mbti types, based on their dominant/auxiliary function pairings:

INFP (Fi-Ne)

to explain functions a bit: an INFP's dominant function is Fi (introverted feeling), which means their personal values and emotions are very inward, deep, and individual.

their auxiliary is Ne (extraverted intuition), so they interpret the world through patterns, ideas, and possibilities, very externally focused.

so INFPs tend to be thoughtful, emotionally independent, and idealistic. they care a lot about authenticity and inner peace, and they love exploring new ideas and meanings behind things.

ENFP (Ne-Fi)

ENFPs lead with extraverted intuition, constantly scanning for possibilities, ideas, connections. their secondary function, Fi, means they check those ideas against their personal values.

they’re outwardly energetic, spontaneous, and full of big-picture thinking, but they’re also quietly principled and sensitive under the surface.

the difference between ENFP and INFP isn't that one is an extrovert and the other is an introvert (though that might be the case, a lot of times). it just means that ENFP's intuition (Ne) is stronger than their feeling (Fi), while an INFP's Fi is stronger than their Ne.

INFJ (Ni-Fe)

Meet the Links: The Colors (Forest, Ember, River, and Quartz)

Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures. Unrelated to the Four Swords manga. However, I do read a lot of LU fanfiction, so if I slip and call them by color names, like "Red" or "Vio," please point it out. I am very prone to this error.

After his/their first adventure, the Four Sword was returned and the Four became One again. Link thought that was the end of it until he found himself transported into the far, far future where a new Zelda requested his expertise with the seal on the Four Sword, which she feared was weakening due to omens speaking of a quickly approaching disaster. Tricked into pulling the Four Sword by a Shadow Link, Vaati was released and the one became four once more. After so many centuries have passed, the sword's effects have made it so the divided pieces of Link are more defined than ever. They were in Frozen Hyrule, on their way to the Tower of Winds.

River (Blue) is water. River is a mediator and goes with the flow. He has the highest EQ. He'll brew you some nice tea. Or refreshing lemonade. He's easy to talk to. The most protective of the Four. He has a tendency to take both sides in a conflict because he can see both points of view, which sometimes makes him come across as wishy-washy.

Forest (Green) is wind. Forest is the force and movement behind the group, like the force of the wind. He carries the most motivation and can thus stay focused on what's important in the big picture. He's the general item guy and a big fan of the Pegasus Boots.

Ember (Red) is fire. He's a bit capricious. Very kind, like a warm candle, but can quickly explode in temperament. Ornery. The group gremlin. A bit childlike in some ways. He sees the world simply and reacts accordingly. He is always on the move for new experiences. He gets bored easily and has almost no self control. He is always into other people's business and doesn't want to miss anything. Easily distracted. Loves the fire rod way too much. His fighting style involves jumping around with his Roc's Cape as much as possible and setting things on fire. His secondary weapon is his hammer, which he primarily uses to stun enemies (and sometimes allies.) He rarely uses his sword, but if he does, he's spinning like a hurricane.

Quartz (purple) is Earth. Quartz is the logic. His emotions are very stable and perhaps underdeveloped. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a personality, it's just not as loud. His EQ is the worst, but his intellectual IQ is the highest. Loves learning and is very smart. Has the best memory of them.

The Four aren't divided equally into MBTI functions, but as reference to those who are interested in that sort of thing, the combined Link is an ESTP. Ember holds the most Se. Forest holds the second most Se and the second most Ti (which Quartz has most of.) These were Link's strongest functions. Quartz holds the most Ti and Ni. He's a real thinker and has that "Ni vision," which would make the other colors uncomfy if Quartz wasn't so good at supporting it with the Ti and has such a good track record that even if he can't explain it, the others trust him. Plus, River (having the second most Ni) usually backs him up, though River can't explain his reasoning and is more about vibes. Quartz really struggles with Fe, which River abounds in (with Ember being second.) River holds the majority of Link's EQ and is usually the first to notice if someone is struggling or if an argument is about to break out. He's pretty good at being a mediator.

So all-in-all, Quartz is the brains, River is the calm and observant emotion, Ember is the more reactive emotion, and Forest is the force that drives them forward. They are all extremely competitive and not above sabotaging others to be number one in whatever they are competing for. Their ability to cooperate is very situational, which drives Verdi crazy.

The Shadow Links are simply enemies and have no role in their adventure other than being a general nuisance.

You can tell by the varying levels of quality between these pictures that it started as a simple series of sketches. I decided to color them, and I ended up gradually putting more energy into them as I went. 😅

Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase MBTI analysis: The Battle of the Labyrinth.

Annabeth as INTJ

Ni > Te > Fi > Se

Percy as ESFP

Se > Fi > Te > Ni

I think The Battle of the Labyrinth showed their cognitive functions really well. I am actually still doubtful about Annabeth being ENTJ or INTJ, but this book made me think of Se as her inferior function because of how much she questioned Percy for relying purely on it.

Se can work as more of an 'action' function, while Ni inclines more towards analyzing.

Strong Sensing users rely on their five senses, whether it's Si or Se doesn't matter because that description works for both of them. The main difference is that Si is about the past, whereas Se is about new experiences.

Se + Fi combo in Percy is obvious to me. He takes every action he can almost impulsively (or at least that's what it looks like to Annabeth), he trusts Rachel because he has witnessed how useful she was when he found her in The Titan's Curse. He knows she can see the monsters even better than him, so every little and big action and/or decision he takes is based pretty much on his friendship with Rachel; Introverted Feeling (Fi) took quite a bit part of his whole behavior, and the fact that he has Extroverted Sensing (Se) as dominant function just made him decisive, which for Annabeth was recklessness.

During the whole time Percy trusted Rachel "blindly", Annabeth couldn't help but analyze every single future event. Her Introverted iNtuition (Ni) was at its peak, and I can see this when they encountered a new path: Rachel said it was over there, Percy immediately started following her with no previous analysis other than the fact that Rachel helped him (therefore was his friend) and sensed everything much more clearly than him. But Annabeth was very suspicious of Rachel, not because of some jealousy, but because she perceived (N) everything around her and stated that it was a very dangerous path because of how it looked or that they went there before.

She has the ability to connect dots really fast. And in other scenarios where she explains Percy something, he can't catch the hint quickly, but to Annabeth is almost obvious because her thinking (Te - Extraverted Thinking) relies on her perception of things and what will happen in the future (Ni). But Percy has Ni as his inferior function, which I believe, in his case, means that it's not very well developed or he doesn't use it at all times like her.

Taking this last point into account, Annabeth's inferior function (if we follow the idea that she's INTJ) is Se. In The Battle of the Labyrinth she's suspicious of a lot of things and feels at ease when it's something she knows she's good at (e.g: when Hephaestus' spider was leading them and she was terrified, but felt immediately comforted when she had to do a physical thing she's good at — I read it in Spanish idk the translation and I'm too lazy to search it up but ikyk the moment, right?). Obviously, this could look like a strong Si, but because her Ni is showed from the beginning of her appearance (she knew Percy was a kid of the Big Three before he was even claimed). Inferior Se can look like a Si if the person is too ashamed of it, or if it's really bad developed, or if they rely excessively on their dominant and auxiliary functions. I think the latter is Annabeth's case.

I think this book made their strongest cognitive functions shine. Of course I'm not saying Annabeth is indecisive, she's actually a very analytical person who knows when to take risks. Whether she's ENTJ or INTJ doesn't matter a lot to me, but in this specific case I think Se was her inferior function (which applies to INTJ). I also don't mean that Percy isn't analytical, he analyzes things differently. He's not dumb at all, it's just that his way of thinking doesn't primarily rely on connecting dots like Annabeth. Percy is most likely to see the big picture whereas Annabeth looks at tiny details, and I think this is why they are a very good duo and their relationship is well developed even though they are different.

Think about it like a workplace: they are working for the same goal and are put together to achieve it (which is similar to what actually happens, they just happen to want the other to be there most times). Annabeth does take more of an analyzing role, but sometimes her analysis reaches a tight situation where they have to escape somehow, and most "crazy" solutions come from Percy — and he does use his thinking (Te) for that, but has the perception and decisiveness quite characteristic of Sensing users and the fact that he's Se dom just makes him look like a total impulsive person to Annabeth most times, yet she's able to see his reasoning but can feel doubtful of it at times because of how much she tries to predict things.

I think this could be a little confusing for people who don't know cognitive functions... I am willing to answer questions! I also would like to know other people's take on this, but please keep debate in a respectful level (don't find me typologytok).

MBTI Perceiving Cognitive Functions Explained Fast & Dirty

Perceiving Functions

Purpose: How you take in information from the world that informs the decisions you make via the judging functions.

Extraverted Sensing (Se): Taking in information that is happening in real-time around you using your 5 physical senses. It sounds simple and that's because it kind of is! These people live in the here and now, and they tend to use Se to make very practical and relevant decisions that directly impact the situation in front of them. They don't typically get caught up in impractible abstract ideas or outlandish notions and they deal only with observations that everybody can share.

Introverted Sensing (Si): Relying on information built up over time from the individual's personal experience/past. These people are also practical and don't tend to get caught up in irrelevant theories that can't be applied to the situation at hand. Think "the devil is in the details" for these people. They focus on even minute details so that they can make the most informed and pragmatic decisions as possible.

Extraverted Intuition (Ne): Relying on the exploration of all possible effects or outcomes of a particular situation that anyone could imagine. These people are big picture focused and don't get bogged down by details that have little impact. These people like to consider every potential future before making a decision so that they have the most complete description of what the situation currently is and what it will be like next after this person takes action.

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Taking in all aspects of a situation that the individual personally decides is important for decision-making, usually summarizing all of the information in a way that puts it into short and simple terms. These people are also big picture focused and enjoy using their short summaries to focus on what the most-likely future outcome will be. Highly theoretical, these people can prefer to use metaphors to describe the current situation and explain how the ending will come about.

For your reference, below are all 16 types with the order in which their cognitive functions are placed (essentially, in order of strength). I've organized them by their strongest perceiving functions.

Thank you very much for this question, as I absolutely love any opportunity to rant on about my obsessions :)

For this post I'll use cognitive functions (I had at first resolved to use letters also, but then got too lazy and decided to stick with the functions, but I welcome any questions regarding the letters also!)

I made a post about this awhile back, but did not explain my reasoning and besides … my opinions have changed now (they never stay constant!). My current position is that Olga was an INFP, Tatiana an ESFJ, Maria an ESFJ, and Anastasia and ENFP. For me it is strange that Tatiana and Maria are both ESFJs, but then we must understand that MBTI types come in all different forms!

Olga—INFP (Fi-Ne-Si-Te)

Fi: Olga was known as independent and strong-willed (she “alone showed occasional traces of independence”), forthright in her opinions and principles (“very straightforward, sometimes too outspoken, but always sincere”), as well as kind and sensitive. Reading Gibbes’ testimony, I was impressed by the succession of adjectives pointing to Fi: straight, just, honest, simple, and sincere. Her heart was soft and she was often inspired to do good deeds, but did not seem to seek recognition for them. She disliked authority and protocol: “Everything is so strict and official there that you have to follow your every step, because there we are in the spotlight. We never liked it there and the sisters there are so important,” she said of the hospital at the Catherine Palace.

Ne: Olga was arguably the most intelligent and creative of the daughters, quick to think on her own and for herself (“always managed to give an original turn to what she learned”). Her "dreams of happiness" could also be indicative of Ne.

Si: The best I can offer for this function is her reluctance to go marry Prince Carol--it could be interpreted as a wish to stay in familiar surroundings. But I am not sure.

Te: When she suffered a physical and mental breakdown, she resorted to harshness and an attempted to accomplish many things and overworked herself. Her friend Valentina Chebotaryova wrote that it was said to be due to exhaustion. (Te grip.)

Admittedly my case for a Ne-Si axis is not very strong, so I am open to her being an ISFP, although I do think INFP most likely.

Tatiana—ESFJ (Fe-Si-Ne-Ti)

Fe: Tatiana was sociable and tactful, and was said to “long pathetically” for friends and “dream of great friendships which might be hers.” She was known to be her mother’s favorite due to her ability to understand and yield to Alexandra, to understand Alexandra’s needs and wants. Of the daughters, Tatiana especially tried to chat with and win over the sentries who guarded the doors at the Ipatiev House. Unlike Olga, who was noted to care little for clothes, Tatiana liked the attention she received when she was dressed nicely; she “was admired and liked admiration.”

Si-Ne: And then, of course, we get to Tatiana’s disciplined and pragmatic nature. She was noted to be practical and dutiful, to be precise, careful, and cautious, and not overly poetic or idealistic ("she had no liking for art"). On the other hand, the bit abstract bent noted by Dehn and Buxhoeveden could be indicative of a tertiary Ne function. To me, Tatiana's diary entries show her being very detailed about her day.

Maria—ESFJ (Fe-Si-Ne-Ti)

Fe-Si: Maria, despite her stubbornness, was generally known to be good-natured, gentle, and docile (“with her warm heart she was kindness itself. Her sisters took advantage somewhat of her good nature, and called her ‘fat little bow-wow.’ She certainly had the benevolent and somewhat gauche devotion of a dog”). She took a lively interest in other people, and "always used to speak to the soldiers, questioned them, and knew very well the names of their wives, the number of their children, and the amount of land owned by the soldiers. All the intimate affairs in such cases were always known to her." To me that is a lovely example of her Fe-Si in action. I would also say her letters are good examples--you can see her affectionate spirit in action.

Anastasia—ENTP (Ne-Ti-Fe-Si)

Ne-Si: She had a good deal of creativity. Those who talked to her were impressed by her active mind, keenly interested in everything, and her interests changed and adapted quickly (“If you happened to be sitting next to her at table, you had constantly to be ready for some unexpected question.”) As for the Si inferior, I get the impression that Anastasia seemed to take relief in her memories of the past: “"We often reminisce about our visits to the hospital, the evening chats on the telephone, and everything, everything."

Ti-Fe: To be honest, hard to say. I personally think she had more Ti than Fi, and more Fe than Te, but haven’t really found anything solid to back up my opinion. So this is more of my personal "gut feeling" :)

However, all of this is highly speculative since they never got to grow up and make decisions—which would be infinitely more helpful to deciphering their personalities than a few choice (and perhaps not even accurate) anecdotes and descriptions (some of them quite gushy). There are very good arguments to be had for Tatiana as a high Te user.

Bonuses: Alexei probably an ESFP, although due to his youth, hard to tell. Nicholas and Alexandra ISFJs. Anastasia a definite Enneagram 7!
