FIGHT!

Add to each fighter's individual fighting score the result of an individual d20 roll: the highest number wins the fight.

Depending on the context, the loser either dies or is wounded/spared. If the fight is won with less than 3 points difference, the winner suffers injuries:

won by 3 points: wounded makeup, -1 Body skill point

won by 2 points: wounded overlay, -3 Body skill points

won by 1 point: crippling injury, loss of all Body skill points

After each round, the winners can attack a new foe, but they are tired (-3 to the total fighting score)

If they are wounded (won the fight by 3 points or less, see above), they cannot fight another round unless they are patched up by a nearby healer.

Hi I'm here to bother you with another fan fiction again. Or short story ficlet kind of thing, it isn't meant to be extremely long. I mainly wrote it as a bit of worldbuilding for Wingman and got carried away.

So, let me introduce you to this brainchild of mine that I'm very glad I wrote and I'm very proud of the worldbuilding and I hope you'll enjoy it :]

A mysterious illness has struck the Admins of the MCC Server after the 34 rendition of the Event. Noxite is trying to find a way to cure them, but soon realizes it might be something that is out of his hands. He will need help to fix this.

Some sims say shooting stars over Crescentia are an omen. Some say they're a warning of the Watcher's displeasure, or worse, of That Which Moves In Crooked Paths.

Some sims point out, quite reasonably, that it's rare to have a night without a shooting star around Crescentia, and it'd probably be more worrying if they stopped.

I have a question- how does MCC work? Like I not sure if you explain it, but the newest chapter stirred up that question for me.

Ok so you’re right in that we’ve never really explained MCC. And, to be fair, we haven’t worked out exactly how the specifics of it work either. However, MCC works roughly how you’d expect; it’s its own world, with its own rules, and every… hmm, maybe not every month because we’re working in a different time scale in-canon, but maybe every 6 months. Again, subject to change.

We have dropped a bit of lore about MCC I think. The blood god arena, that crowned Techno, Mumbo, Red and a few others (names have been dropped! gotta go find them yourself though lol) as Blood Gods has been called the first MCC. I think of it as the same relationship we have with the Olympics. The thing that happened hundreds of years ago is very different to the stuff we have today, but the inspiration came from there.

During the majority of the TACOMLU, MCC has been on hold. We might make it that MCC was on a break between seasons anyway, so for the first year and a half or so, no one would really think anything of it. However, in-canon we’re almost at the two years since doomsday (and time restarting) mark.

This is where the whole ‘DSMP is inaccessible’ comes into play. They literally don’t have enough participants for MCC at the moment. And also, the Hermits are kinda homeless right now. So that’s like 2/3 of every participant ever unable to attend. If they were to have a whole MCC with the players they have available and also maybe a few others (mcc rising?) then Noxite and the Noxcrew would have to do it without Scott helping.

TLDR: MCC is on break until something good happens with the DSMP and/or Season Nine.- Chambers

Watcher Grian thoughts!

(aka: an excuse to self-indulgently share one of the things currently rotating in my brain...)

So even though I've only watched 3rd Life so far (I know, I know, but ... I like saving dessert for last, okay?), I still have like 10 different parallel ideas for how that series interacts with Grian being a Watcher. (And one idea where he never became a watcher at all, but that's beyond the scope of this post!)

Right now my favourite is that Grian really did mean for 3rd Life to be a fun time, something like the S6 Demise, where everyone will play hard and let off steam but with a tacit understanding that there are lines not to cross. He gets someone to help him set up the server, but X is busy so it's someone he doesn't know terribly well -- maybe Scott, maybe another MCC person, maybe even fWhip (because of Empires Reasons).

Whoever it is, Grian shares with them his worry that people will just keep the same relationships & play styles that they always do, and that it'll make his game boring -- and Grian hates being bored! And this person suggests a new server technology they've heard of, which installs a sort of memory-blurring filter on the players to make them more likely to try new things. Why not? Grian thinks, and they decide to use it.

But (of course!) the filter tech works way better than they expected, and the players end up thrown back on their more primal, archetypical selves -- and for Grian, that's all the personality traits that made the Watchers pick him in the first place.

I actually have a fic using this mostly drafted but none of the worldbuilding is in there, it's just 1500 words of angsty Scott & Grian consequences. Maybe mentioning it here will get me to finally finish it!

1. How many works do you have on ao3? 270! I used to be very prolific in high school, but I've slowed down since college XD

2. What’s your total ao3 word count? 910,686

3. What fandoms do you write for? Tower of God, and MCYT, mainly Hermitcraft and hermit-adjacent series (Life Series, Evo, MCC, anything where a hermit may be featured)

4. What are your top five fics by kudos? The two fandoms I write for have a pretty huge fandom size difference (based on fics alone, Hermitcraft has about 4x the amount of ToG's), so the kudos difference is very drastic. Also, since I've been writing ToG for quite some time now, my most kudosed ToG fics are just the first ones I've written, since they've been around the longest. So I'll just post my most kudosed Hermitcraft fic, and my two most kudosed ToG fics, one for pre-anime and post-anime (due to the fandom explosion in between)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Ooo, hmm... *filters my fics by Angst tag* *67 fics appear* Uh. Thus Kindly I Scatter is one of my first angst fics ever, and evidently it's hurt a lot of people XD. But I'll go with Ache, the first fic for one of my month challenges. That one was fun to write :D

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I haven't written many multichaps, so I don't really have one that builds up to a happy ending. But Memory Lane is a nice fluffy one ^^

8. Do you get hate on fic? Not really, I think most of my comments have been pretty chill. And I'm not too active on social media, so I don't really pay attention if anything's been said there.

9. Do you write smut? Best part of turning 18.

10. Do you write crossovers? Not really, unless you count stuff from different MCYT series. I think it can be a big vague on what constitutes a crossover, because ccs can be part of different series

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, and I hope not.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! It's always an honor when someone wants to translate/podfic/create other derivative works off my own <3

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! Kings and Prophets as a raffle gift fic for a fandom event. It was very fun to write (and ended up about 9x the original predicted length). Still one of my favorite fics <3

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? KhunBam, what else XD Started with them, still hung up on them

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t? Last I checked (a few years ago), I had 136k words worth of WIPs in my graveyard, and it's only grown since. I did have this one Gods AU KhunBam fic called Post-Immortem that I remember planning extensively, but unfortunately, I only got a few chapters in before I got bored XD. Multichaps tend to be difficult for me.

16. What are your writing strengths? I really like worldbuilding! Fantasy has always been my favorite genre, so I love writing AUs. I think I'm also decent at writing action scenes (Doing martial arts for most of my life has helped, I think)

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Characterization can take me a while to get, and also I'm not very good with writing multichaps. Long plot buildups aren't really my thing.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've never done it extensively for a long fic, but I've done it in a few oneshots. I have some knowledge of Spanish from school, and I can speak Mandarin, but my writing is ehhhhh. I think it's fun!

19. First fandom you wrote for? Tower of God, whoo! And it hasn't changed XD

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Oh hmmmmm, Like Seeds Scattered Across the Sky probably (beloved fae fic :3), but Dear Fellow Traveler is pretty close as well, although that one isn't finished yet. It's taken me a long time to finish, but if all goes to plan, it'll be done by the end of the month ^^

oh my god i did want to have a fun fact section but i decided tonally against it and also i couldnt work out where to put it soooo most of my characters have been workshopped to hell and back so im just gonna list out a bunch of stuff that didn't make it into the final iteration of them and also some other stuff

ari actually ingame wasnt an only kid, she had a twin but i used mcc to cut it down to one because firstly i was trying to stick to the challenge rules, and secondly i'd been thinking about a plot for what would eventually become dgwicf already and for some reason her being the only daughter of saige and bellona felt important? and it did end up being important so 😅 good call past me

ithaca for some reason was meant to be allergic, like, badly allergic to flowers? can't recall why i decided that but it just seemed weirdly specifically improbably (especially with how the house is decorated) so i sort of canned the idea while they were still a toddler

all of the kids' font colours being warm toned are chosen that way to directly contrast ari and luca's who are both cool toned. also in the character page itself ive made their names the colours they'll "speak in", should be easier to identify who is talking when

of the kids in internal temperament, anna is most like bellona. and idris/(redacted) will grow up to be a very. um. interesting mix of lilian and saige. make of that what you will really

THERE WAS A MOMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DGWICF that i was planning to kill iggy's dog pickle. as a plot development. as u can see i refrained from doing so im not a total monster for the narrative. that dog is gna live forever

speaking of lucari, in the au where ari doesnt sign up for the bachelorette we (me and anji) did think that theyd have found their way together eventually 🥰 they run in slightly adjacent social circles so they wouldve had repeated run ins.. just seeing each other in passing at the corner store on the street in an elevator two people in the big city crossing paths until luca asks ari for her name (she's been hoping they'd start a conversation for weeks) and it all folds out from there...

Um..? Probably my current half published project, because I didn't expect it to.. blow up? and now it has almost 2k hits and im kinda staring at it in fear cuz holy hell thats a lotta people. I also discovered some things about myself while in the process of writing, and realized that I enjoy reading what I have written. So that one :)

I love reading my dialogue. I think its really funny at times, or just hits very well whenever I get their voices right. I also like the pacing of my writing, because its exactly like what I prefer to read, but it's still attention grabbing.

💖 What made you start writing?

Aru actually. They were talking about a lot of stories I think, and I only liked writing in class because they always got so excited about it. I'm the reason they started writing fic though, which is hilarious to me. I started writing fanfics because I wanted to see more of a specific au, and then a pairing, and then because I wanted to write something without figuring out characters. Its kinda funny thinking back on it XD

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

Mkay i've talked enough about "Alone?" so I'm gonna talk about the spectators au! Basically, I'm playing with minecraft mechanics and worldbuilding, and having the viewers or stream chat be in the fic as little floating incorporeal creatures that like to hang around the players. They don't usually venture into single player worlds or hardcore worlds, but they do hang out in hubs, servers, and event hosting worlds. (Ex., hermitcraft, hypixel, and MCC respectively)

This fic focuses on two players (streamers) Oli (TheOrionSound) and Joe Hills ("from nashville tennessee" /ref) and their interactions. Context is, they're both weirdos and I love them and they couldn't "out weird" the other during the massive crossover event a few months ago.

Joe's chat is a bunch of cats (quiet, regal seeming outside, but chaotic little shits on the inside) and Oli's chat is a flock of magpies (loud, chaotic, gift giving, but also friendly and curious, and generally energetic).

I just want them to fall in love and for their chats to hang out together /hj

My favorite right now is probably Scar (GoodTimesWithScar) or Great Witch Shelby (Shubble in s2 of Empires), because they both have such distinct voices that I can mimic easily and they've got very interesting relationships with themselves, their setting, and other people.

i think Bungie, and by extension, Sony, should acquire Halo

Look, i've been an xbox stan my whole life. never got into console wars as such, but just preferred xbox, mainly because Halo. it practically held my hand and led me into the world of obscure sci-fi and sci-tech. and i heckin love the franchise. the lore, the games, ｓｏｍｅ of the media (didact damn thee, new tv series). and its because i love it that i think the franchise has a foot in the grave rn. we've seen so many people leave, so much hype gone to shit, so much of the player base just...gone.

i'm not gonna say that keeping this kind of a storyline going is easy. shit, i take a week to think up a half-decent daydream scenario. but after so much time, money, and manpower, the state of the franchise really should've been better than what it is. i'm pretty sure its just MCC and HW thats keeping it as alive as it is right now.

plus, i don't really think that microsoft acquiring activision is a good sign, either. this is a studio that has a history of stifling worldbuilding and employee freedom to get its games. heck, Bungie left activision to continue building Destiny 2, with one of the main reasons of the split being ''creative differences''.

game-wise, Halo was in its golden days with Bungie. i'm pretty sure all OG Halo players remember the Bungie opening to CE, their last message post Reach, and overall just how good the game was with them. agreed, the lore might have suffered a bit, but look at Destiny. its one of the most lore rich worlds that we have right now. so, clearly, they've gotten good with the worldbuilding.

HI might've had a good launch, but that was basically because of 2 things:

it takes place on one of the most important locations in the Halo-verse, Zeta

we've literally seen Bungie's rise to fame, as heckin Beyond Light became the console launch, not HI. i don't think i can comment on the player bases, because D2 is available on more platforms, but if you do a comparison of only Steam and xbox player bases of HI and D2, i'm pretty sure D2 will come on top (not gonna bring MCC into this because that's not something that was purely 343 and microsoft).

part of Halo's charm might be the platform exclusivity, but i'm pretty sure that the exclusivity doesn't count for shit if the franchise is practically dead. which honestly looks like a near future event for Halo. HI failed to deliver on multiple fronts, the TV series was practically a MAC shot into the franchise, and all the creative leads for the game leaving microsoft doesn't leave a lot of room for hope.

bungie taking their baby back has some chunky potential to boost the game back up. bungie gets something to work on after D2: Final Shape, Halo, comes into the arms of a team that has been doing pretty well in terms of game maintenance, story writing (ik Lightfall kinda sucked, but lets be honest, the general trend is still in Bungie's favour), and overall upkeep. not only that, the game gets access to an even bigger player base. and i'm pretty sure the worst case won't be all that different from what it already is.

a metric shit ton of people love the franchise, and i really think that most of us won't really mind Halo losing its ''Xbox exclusive'' tag, if it means the saga enters another golden age, which is something we all want to see.

YOU KNOW WHAT?! IM GONNA TALK ABOUT IT! I’M GONNA TALK ABOUT HOW INSTANTLY KLAUS AND SPARROW!BEN LATCHED ONTO EACH OTHET AND WHY

Ben was Klaus’s only constant for decades. They bickered and fought constantly but they’re brothers, they love each other. When Ben died, Klaus was relieved that Ben was finally able to move on and find peace, but he still missed him, it’s clear as day in how he regards Sparrow!Ben when they first meet.

However, that’s all fairly surface level, stated clearly in the show itself. What’s less evident is that Ben has never had a friend before. I believe he says this, but I haven’t seen anyone truly pick it apart. His family was even faker than the Umbrellas’. They got along better, but they were more business partners than anything else. They spent their whole lives together, but barely got to know each other because their whole life is a publicity stunt. They’re under constant watch and judgement not just from their dad, but from the whole city and even each other. They worked so hard to be good at their jobs that they never were allowed to figure out who they were outside of them, even to each other. Ben isn’t deeply affected by losing his siblings because he doesn’t know how to mourn a relationship that lacked any authenticity. They worked together to be the perfect unit, so anything that didn’t fit into that image was hidden away, especially from the others because they *will* use that against you. And they spent every moment together, so none of them were ever allowed to be anything less than what was expected of them. Ben never got the opportunity to find out who he was outside of the guy on the billboards.

Then in walks Klaus, someone who knows Ben better than he knows himself. He knows the Ben that was allowed to be real, the Ben that was allowed to experience emotions other than stoicism and anger, the Ben that learned unshielded love through constant companionship with Klaus. Sparrow!Ben was never given the chance to become that, but seeing the absolute mess that is the Umbrellas, he finds that he wants it. He wants to be a mess, to be allowed to feel, to be accepted even when you screw up. He doesn’t know how to be the version of himself that earned that type of love, but then Klaus tells him that being real was what made Ben so easy to love.

And then they’re hanging off of each other the rest of the night. Don’t you dare make it weird (glares at Netflix), these losers are touch deprived. They’re clingy as hell in the most platonic way possible because do you think Sparrow!Ben has ever received any sort of physical affection? How many years has Klaus been metaphorically leaning on Ben before he finally learned to do so literally, only to lose him almost instantly? They each so desperately need the support the other is longing to give, okay?! They just want hugs, your honor.

More worldbuilding things! This time, we are going over Bedwars, which I mentioned previously as part of c!Purpled's and c!Hannah's backstory.

Now, Bedwars (and other minigames like it) are about killing people. So why would something like that exist in a world where you (the Blade) or someone else (your Driver) going through a respawn immediately disrupts your Resonance and permanently kills you? It's a massive gamble, and losing it means losing your life/your partner/your anonymity (if you have to really throw around magic to survive).

Basically there's a safety system--on reputable servers, anyway. For servers with minigames, there are several Blades and Drivers working as admins/mods whose entire purpose is to monitor ongoing games, give an invincible heart/buffer effect to a player before they take lethal damage, and then teleport them off the field/back to their bed and restore them to full health.

Hypixel does this. c!Techno is (secretly) part of their extreme-emergency on-call staff. They haven't needed him much, but it is accepted amongst the mod-team that if there is ever a cross-server war, Techno is probably siding with Hypixel. He and Seraphine like to make snarky comments at each other. One of the few times Techno gets called in is when a bug makes a slime mob end up with player coding, get a virus, and decide to take control of Hypixel (yes the Hypixel mayor storyline takes place, but it is set pre-canon in this AU by about 20 years).

MunchyMC did this too, and c!Bad and c!Skeppy worked as part of their admin team for a while before they adopted c!Sapnap and switched to part-time work to raise him. c!Alyssa and c!Callahan, as well as c!Ant and c!Velvet, also worked for MunchyMC, though they were more part-time/interns. Sapnap grew up around Munchy, but not really part of the mod/admin team. c!Dream and his previous Driver were there to participate in the minigames a bit before they moved on. c!George only spent a little time around Munchy more recently, after he became Dream's Driver.

This also makes the Minecraft Monday and MCC dubiously-canon status more probable. I think for the MCC, it is something that happens every couple of years. It happened last before the events of dsmp, and the next one doesn't occur until after the events. Maybe make it a four year cycle like the Olympics?

Unfortunately, I don't think the Dream & Techno MCC win really fits into the storyline unless we push it way back and say it happened during the same life as the duel.

And obviously there are bad servers where the safety net isn't in place--some servers advertise this fact and some servers hide it. But Bedwars is done through Hypixel, which is very safe, and Punz figures it's a decent way for Purpled to get some experience with combat in a non-traumatizing way.

6. Do you like using the mcyt multiverse as a concept? (all SMPS and MC content exists in the same universe)

OKAY yes and no and kind of. i generally don't like doing this bc it gets confusing and oftentimes I haven't seen the other content, but also for some characters ik other SMPs are genuinely part of their backstory (eg cschlatt and cconnor and smplive). i used to be a No multiverse truther and then i started writing rousseau's man and went okay fine smplive and niki's background in perfectsmp can stay. MCC is fun as a location but i wouldn't take any MCC events as canon yk

i usually don't count things like origins or qsmp or the SCU as part of the world i write it, but i did think once it would be kind of interesting if multiple versions of someone did exist, just that their universes were so so far apart they would never meet (e.g. cniki, oniki and qniki are all running around somewhere, but they're so far away from each other that the odds of crossing paths is next to zero). would be an interesting concept to play with but would probably also do my head with the worldbuilding

19. Do you tend to take into account hybrid characteristics (avian, enderman hybrid, dragon hybrid, etc) when you are writing cubitos?

not really unless they're 110% solidified in my mind for me... i forget about what i've canonised. piglin ctechno yes, enderwhatever ranboo yes, ram hybrid schlatt because i just can't see him without the horns...... but yeah not many. if people want to imagine the cubitos with their own headcanons when reading my fics it is 100% encouraged
