It was stupid, hell the first time you saw a TikTok of it, you had no idea what was going on and had to turn to the comments for answers. Someone would hold up a clearly closed water bottle ask the person the question ‘is it opened or closed?’ and depending on whether or not the mouth of person holding the bottle was open or not they would say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. 

It was funny though, seeing these couples get all worked up over a water bottle. These poor people trying not call their partner stupid, while simultaneously calling their partners stupid. You we’re dying to see how Lando’s reaction. 

You had asked Lando to grab you a water bottle from hospitality on his way back to his drivers room, and like the saint he was he happily obliged. 

“Thank you baby,” you press a kiss to Lando’s awaiting cheek. You take a few sips from the plastic bottle and set up your phone  to capture his reaction. 

“What are you doing?” Lando ask curiously. 

“Well I saw something on Tiktok and I wanted to do it with you.” 

“And you want to record my reaction for blackmail I take it?” 

“Exactly!” 

You shift yourself on the couch, turning so that your camera captures both you and Lando in frame. You lift up the clearly closed water bottle and ask, “Open or closed?” mouth closing after the question. 

“Closed.” Lando states and you nod. 

You shift the bottle to its side and ask again, “Open or closed?” your mouth still open. 

“Closed,” Lando says again confidently.

“Nope!” 

“What? It’s clearly closed.” Lando gestures to the water bottle. 

“Nope, again. Open or closed?” You flip the bottle again, mouth still ajar. 

“Open?” 

“Yes!” 

“Babe, what? The cap is on, it’s closed.” 

“No, pay attention. It’s open. Again.”

Flipping the bottle again so that it upside down you ask again, mouth still open. 

“Closed.” 

“Lando, pay attention.” 

“What do you mean ‘pay attention’? I am, if the bottle was open then there would be water all over you and there’s clearly not!” Lando runs his hands through his hair in frustration. 

“Ok, ok. One more time. Open or closed,” you close your mouth. 

“I don’t know anymore. Open.” 

You shake you head and Lando throws his arms up in the air, “What are you on woman?!” 

You shoot him a look and shrug your shoulders, “Well I never asked if the bottle was opened or closed, you just assumed.” 

“What?” 

“I was never asking about the bottle silly. So I’ll ask again, open or closed, and this time pay attention.” You stare Lando dead in the eyes as you leave your mouth open. 

“You’re an idiot.” 

“Lando!” You shout, throwing the still clearly closed water bottle at him. 

“This was the stupidest Tiktok ‘prank’ or ‘trend’ or whatever you want to call it.” Lando throws air quotes around prank and trend. 

“I’m so posting this.” Lando groans at your statement. 

“You’re lucky I love you.” 

“I love you too,” you press a kiss against his lips, rewarding him for being a good sport.

First Battle of El Alamein

The First Battle of El Alamein (1-27 July 1942) was a series of encounters during the Second World War (1939-1945) in Egypt between Allied and Axis forces. The battle, focussed around the El Alamein defensive line, ended without a decisive result except that the advance into Egypt of the German General Erwin Rommel (1891-1944) was finally halted.

The British Eighth Army followed up with a victory at the Battle of Alam Halfa (September 1942) and then definitively turned the tide of the war in North Africa by winning the great set-piece encounter known as the Second Battle of El Alamein in October-November 1942.

The Importance of North Africa

North Africa became a major theatre of WWII because of the importance of holding the Suez Canal and protecting vital shipping routes in the Mediterranean. In the early years of the war, North Africa was the only place where Britain could fight a land war against the Axis powers of Germany and Italy and so hopefully gain much-needed victories that would encourage the British people after the debacle of the Dunkirk Evacuation and the horrors of the London Blitz. The fighting in North Africa, which involved infantry, artillery, armoured divisions, and air support, became known as the Western Desert Campaigns (June 1940 to January 1943).

With Operation Compass (December 1940 to February 1941), British and British Empire troops obliged Italy's poorly equipped army to withdraw from Egypt and then Cyrenaica (Eastern Libya). From February, the Axis presence in North Africa was considerably boosted by the arrival of German troops such as the elite Deutsche Afrika Korps (DAK) with superior armour, weapons, and training compared to both the Italians and the Allies. Things improved further for the Axis powers when General Rommel took over command of Axis forces in North Africa. Rommel won a series of victories in March and April 1941, but the Allies kept hold of their vital supply port during the siege of Tobruk (April to December 1941). Rommel regained the initiative at the Battle of Gazala (May-June 1942) where the Allied Gazala Line of defences was smashed. Rommel even captured Tobruk on 21 June and so was promoted to the rank of field marshal. Rommel gained another victory at the Battle of Mersa Matruh, capturing the Egyptian port on 28 June. Here, as in other arenas of the conflict, the Allies were taking a beating.

No one prays mclaren lose the cc more than ME

i’m not usually one to defend millionaires i don’t know, but two things on lando:

1) he never called the tangerine his “dear friend” - while i found his response to that question in the presser lacking, he didn’t say that.

for what he did say, the majority of it is largely mirrored in the mclaren statement (largely the mention of the “honour” of meeting him) and verbatim what the man said to lando himself (cc. the “lucky charm” comment). the rest of what he said seemed to be lando stumbling through a presser, putting his foot in his mouth with an attempt at (misplaced) politeness – which is fairly par for the course with lando, he’s not the most eloquent of people.

but from where i sit it seems he was given a PR line to stick to, and the “i guess” and “i guess you have to”s in his response, considered with how mclaren was “chosen” by the fia and liberty media (who are headed/owned by pro-tangerines), and that mclaren itself has a few big sponsors/backing from pro-tangerine companies (e.g. Hilton), it makes it less cut and dry – at least for me, with the possible internal and external pressure. but by no means does that mean everyone should forgive him for that presser; it’s something i feel anybody could rightfully hold a grudge for in reality.

2) lando did comment on ralf’s coming out (via this bbc article https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/articles/cl7ykp11k74o):

"It's a good thing. From an inclusivity and diversity point of view, F1, McLaren, we have pushed for it a lot over the last three or four years especially, the whole world kind of moved in that direction.

"And whether it's this or talking about mental health, you just want people to live their life and be happy and not feel like they are going to get judged, so I'm very happy for him."

lando’s definitely an acquired taste, and i can’t truly fault anyone for not liking him, but as someone who’s largely neutral on him i do believe we should try to be as accurate as we can with our complaints/the information we spread, it’s something i try to do even with the drivers/celebs i downright detest.

Thank you for ur reply! Suppose that I was a little harsh on him, as I don't follow up on the current grid much, and only saw that one interview about Trump, and judged based on that - my own fault, truly. Shouldn't deduce from only bits and pieces.

I'm glad that he said what he did about schumacher, didn't know that he had. Also I hadn't known about the mclaren statement - honestly, of all people...Mr. Orange. Oh, well. I wish the team hadn't forced that one on him.
