A/N: Good evening wonderful peeps. Hope you've had a good week. It's just been announced that Tom Sturridge and Mason Alexander Park are going to be at London MCM Comic Con next weekend and the thought of it is too much for me to handle. I think I might be having a day in London... 😉 Anyway, please enjoy this next one. All my love, Saskia xx

---------------
The instant that yours and Morpheus' lips touch, you feel him tense. There’s an acute intake of breath. Then he is a statue. Carved from ice.
You consider pulling back but then the ice begins to melt.
He’s kissing you back.
Only very slightly yet it’s all the encouragement you need to keep going.
His lips are just as perfect to kiss as they are to look at.
Soft. And combined with his smooth skin, it is like being caressed by silk.
Within seconds, you are lost in him.
The reaction your body gives is unlike anything you have ever experienced before from a first kiss, or any other kiss for that matter. You are completely overtaken by the oxytocin binding to your neuroreceptors, and there's an additional layer of bliss to cushion your aching heart. It laps over you like a wave soaking the sand at high tide.
An otherworldly sensation.
You presume it is because he is that entirely. Not of your world.
The thought is sobering. He’s a powerful, ageless, visually stunning being. And you’re a human.
A human going through a crisis.
You know full well that trying to solve it through intimacy is wrong, regardless of the physical attraction and the burgeoning connection you feel with him on an emotional level.
You pull away.
Out of his personal space and further still. You withdraw into yourself.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that."
Morpheus speaks your name in a whisper.
It takes a great amount of force for you to feel able to look at him.
His eyes are gleaming with tears. He looks so vulnerable.
Vulnerability caused by your actions.
Shame floods through you.
What must you think of me? You question inside your head.
He had been dutifully trying to help you, attempted to bring you comfort, shared what it meant to be the guardian of dreams and apologised for upsetting you, and the only thing you could think to do in that moment was to take advantage of his kindness by kissing him.
You feel despicable.
You're pushing your hands shakily over your scalp.
He says your name again. There’s real confusion on his face.
"Please can we forget that happened? I've literally just told you about my break up and kissing you, well, it’s a classic rebound reaction. I should know better.”
"Rebounding is a concept created by humans to bring shame to those who have the fortitude to act on their desires."
His words, though they sound seductively logical, do not sway your resolve.
“That may be true, but it was still massively impulsive of me.”
You watch as his walls go back up, cleaning his face of all feeling and freezing his eyes to a dark, frosty blue.
"Then I will do as you ask and ignore its occurrence."
You exhale with relief.
"I appreciate that."
Morpheus changes the subject so quickly, not even allowing for a second of unease.
"We should return to the library."
"Okay."
You shift into a better position to be able to stand but then he is in front of you and extending a long-fingered hand for you to take.
You hesitate.
"Please, Y/N."
You slip your hand into his grasp.
The skin on skin contact creates a buzzing sensation in the back of your head. Your body was going to take some convincing to detach.
You think back to his choice of adjective.
Desire.
That was what had happened. A heady moment of desire. One that you had enjoyed, yes, but nothing that could be pursued.
He helps you up gracefully.
"Thank you."
He simply nods and begins to walk back the way you had both originally come.
You fall into step beside him.
You occupy your thoughts by looking at every detail of the dense, green forest.
The textures of the tree bark, the colours of the leaves, the smell of the air.
It’s easier to distract yourself when you get closer to the palace. In your upset, you had completely missed the details of the gorgeous structure before. The pale stone and gleaming copper of the domes and towers. Statues dotted in amongst the architecture. A dragon and a Pegasus that move with their own autonomy greet you at the entrance doors.
It is fantastical.
Once inside, you re-trace the steps you had taken so hurriedly not an hour ago. Through the corridors with their abundance of arches and pillars and swathes of red carpets trimmed with gold.
Once back in the library, Lucienne greets you with a glowing smile.
You all sit down around the table.
Morpheus nods for Lucienne to present their findings.
“We have found the moment when your night terrors started. You were thirteen years old and you had a hallucination about a spider.”
You nod, remembering that well. You had been so convinced that it was dangling above your face that you had hit out at it with all of your limbs in turn.
“The exact same night, there was a small disturbance recorded here.”
Lucienne takes off her glasses.
“Every parasomnia episode that you have had from that moment on has coincided with some unexplained event in the Dreaming. However, because they were low magnitude and happened so infrequently, there was no cause for concern. Until now, of course.”
You wet your lips nervously. You are fearfully replaying Matthew’s words from earlier in your head about what happens to vortexes.
“What course of action are you going to take to stop it from happening again?”
“Well, it appears that it only happens when you are severely stressed or afraid and then have a nightmare,” Lucienne replies.
You look at Morpheus.
“So you could just stop me from having nightmares?”
“I cannot do that. I do not think it wise. Nightmares serve a purpose. They are a necessary means to help you confront your fears.”
His stance is regal and tone unyielding.
You visibly deflate, there will be no persuading him, you are certain.
“What I will do is grant you a reprieve from them until you are less unsettled in your waking life.”
You blink as you process his words before becoming alarmed.
“And what happens the next time something bad happens? I can’t just stay inside and avoid everything and everyone that could potentially upset me. That’s no way to live.”
“I will step in,” he says this like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
“Wait, let me get this straight. You are going to stop my nightmares every time I feel emotionally out of control?”
“Yes.”
You stare at him in shock.
“If that is agreeable to you,” he adds.
“It is.”
He stands.
“Then it is decided.”
***
You and Morpheus return to the main doors of the palace and stand on the bridge side by side.
His hands are clasped formally behind his back as he watches you looking out at the gates in the distance that are book-ended by mountains.
Subconscious life bustles in the landscape around you and beyond. Dreamers have been dreaming the entire time you have been here, completely oblivious to the threat you pose to them.
You look up at Morpheus and gesture before you with both hands.
“So you made all of this?”
"Yes.”
“How long did it take you?”
“Eons.”
"I feel privileged to have experienced it in such a lucid way. It's more beautiful than anything I have ever seen.”
“I am pleased you think so.” His voice sounds strained despite his choice of words.
A murmur of Starlings are suddenly dancing in the sky. Clearly someone is dreaming about bird watching.
“You will need to wake up soon,” Morpheus says.
“Oh, okay.” His comment is so abrupt that you can’t help but feel like you are being kicked out.
“I will come and check on you in two weeks.”
He goes to raise his hand and end the dream.
Your heart lurches.
“Morpheus, wait.”
He pauses.
“Thank you. For everything. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve your kindness but I am really grateful for what you’re doing for me.”
His eyes soften to an ocean blue.
“I meant what I said to Lucienne. I will do my utmost to protect you. You have my word."

"I used to be overwhelmed by every little thing. Torn apart, unravelled at the seams. I think it rooted in the way I breathe."

We are happy to announce the first CRTranslate Translating Contest, organized in partnership with Geeky Clean for the release of the Critter Pin series. After the success of the UK Critter pin at MCM Comic Con, Geeky Clean decided to embrace the Critters from around the world with this new series of Critter Pins
To celebrate, the team over at CRTranslate decided to organize a translation contest to give out 5 ‘Euro Critter’ Pins offered by Geeky Clean. The principle is simple: starting this 5 Monday, November at 00:01 CET, translation sheets for a Critical Role One-Shot, will be available. Each translation spot completed by the 18th 23:59 will enter you in the Pin raffle and give you a chance of receiving one of the new ‘Euro Critter’ Pins from  Geeky Clean.
For more details on the rules and conditions of the contest refer to the Contest Rules under the break.
RULES:
This Contest is only open to residents with a European postal address.
Only one pin can be won per contestant.
Both translation and editing slots are valid entries for the raffle.
Only slots completed between November 5, 2018, 00:01 CET and November 18, 2018, 23:59 CET will be entered in the raffle.
CRTranslate’s staff reserve themselves the discretion to add pins to the raffle if participation is deemed high.
Winners will be selected randomly by CRTranslate’s staff and announced as soon as possible after the end of the contest.
We ask you to register your slots using a valid email address, twitter handle or an active discord username which we can use to contact you.
Were you unable to provide us with your email address within 12 hours of the winner’s announcement and/or us contacting you, your prize would be handed out to another contestant.
By entering the raffle you agree to give out your email address to Geeky Clean so that they may contact you in order to ship your prize.
Slots may be checked for proper completion, following CRTranslate’s translation standards. (No missing lines, no abuse of JENGAs, no rushed job.) Assessment of proper completion will be left to CRTranslate’s staff’s discretion. Slots judged incomplete will be forfeited from the raffle.
Any attempt at blatant fraud (such as entering multiple usernames, registering multiple slots without completing them, ...) makes you liable to disqualification from the raffle.

The 9 people you want to know better tag... Er thing
I was tagged by @lovelexi-19 (sorry for the delay but I couldn't copy the questions, so had to write them down!) Well here we go! -What's your age? 23 -What's your current job? General sales assistant at Poundland (which is the British equivalent of a dollar store, if that makes sense! Basically most of the stuff we sell is £1, but we do have stuff that's more than £1) -What are you talented at? Being a geek? Haha. Well I'm also an amateur cosplayer and photographer, so I have some talents XD -What are you goals your working towards/ already achieved? Well I'm planning and hoping to cosplaying Boromir for MCM London in October. I'm also planning on doing a Rule 63 Pavel Chekov (inspired by captbexx on here. Her fan art is freaking awesome!) and Leonard 'Bones' McCoy from the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek films and maybe attempt a Gajinka Rule 63 Bunnymund from Rise of the Guardians too. I'd also like to get my first tattoo sometime this year, but it depends on money. One goal I finally achieved was getting the confidence to create a cosplay page on Facebook (which is called Geek With Glasses Cosplay by the way *wink wink*). -What's your aesthetic? What is an aesthetic? I've no idea!? I may be young and have Tumblr (obviously otherwise I won't be doing this!), but I've no idea what the Tumblr lingo is or means nowadays! -Do you collect anything? Funko Pop vinyls (I've got 25 so far!), DVDs, stuff from Comic Cons (photos with guests or autos from them). Some of my DVD collections are: Heath Ledger, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin (I also have the 2 Chekov Pops and Bones one as well, and a little signed photo/film still with Anton on it as Pavel). I also have a collection of books too, mostly Tolkien related ones, or ones to do with the Lord of the Rings/ Hobbit films. I suppose cosplays would count as a collection too, haha. -What's a topic you always talk about? I've recently been on about Anton Yelchin, because I miss him, but it varies from nerdy/ geeky things to "normal" things, whatever "normal" is! -What's your pet peeve? Currently it's about people who shame Asexual folk and saying something on the lines of "oh how do you know if you've not tried it?" Or "you may meet someone and it could change." As an Asexual who was sexually abused when I was 4 by my first step-dad, I do not want to re-live those memories, even though I don't remember anything from that time, and not everyone needs to have sex, especially if you're in a relationship. There's more to relationships than "getting jiggy with it". -Good advice to give? Well, I'm not one for giving advice, because I suck at that sort of thing, but, and as Eric Idle says (well sings!): Always look on the bright side of life. Life may be a piece of poop, but just look at the good points and cherish those moments. -3 songs you'd recommend? Ramm 4 by Rammstein. I've been into them since I was 6, and enjoyed learning German at high school, so I know some German, and this is one of my fave songs by the German pyromaniacs. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by the Monty Python crew. This song always seems to cheer me up when I'm feeling down and sometimes I do try to whistle the whistling part (and fail as I can't whistle properly!) Sledgehammer by Rhianna. Star Trek Beyond is my fave Kelvin Timeline film and I really love this song and I think because it's one of the last films that Anton Yelchin was in, it makes it a bit emotional to me. I tag: @captbexx, @a-girl-on-uss-enterprise, @sonofgondor, @conn-binary, @darlinjim, @kennexmccoyy, @pretty-with-andorian-shingles, @fromyourspace, @shadows-of-peace You don't have to do this if you do not want to but feel free to if you wish!

Why Do I Hate My Portrait Photography?
Portraiture has never been a genre that resonated with me as a creator, which is odd because there are many examples of portraiture that I enjoy, and I’d absolutely love to be able to create meaningful portraits of people in the same way that I feel I’m able to create meaningful images in other genres.
I recently took stock of the collection of “keeper” images that I have been creating over my career as a photographer. Out of these, I was surprised to have as many as a handful of portraits, which I actually like. I so often say that I have no portraits of value that these stood out to me. I then had to think about why – if I have a few I like – did I not have more than that? There must be some factor in these that I’m overlooking when it comes to actively making portrait photographs.
While it’s unfair to say I hate all of my portraits the vast majority do nothing for me. My candid portraiture is fairly decent but I don’t feel they’re valid as “portraits.” There are many commercial portraits I take as part of my work in production, or fashion but again I would not really share these anywhere other than my client and possibly my portfolio.
My favorite genre of portraiture is the street portrait; the spontaneous collaboration between a photographer, their found and consenting subject, and the environment and natural light. This is where I need to put in the work, and start to bring together these factors to establish a style I am happy with.
Finding a subject is one of the hardest things for me. For example, I’ll often be out shooting with a friend and they’ll notice someone who is fantastically or bizarrely dressed and will take either a portrait or a candid. However, this is usually the sort of character I meet at an event like Comic-Con or London Fashion Week where I will have been commissioned and paid to photograph them. I have dozens of portraits of this kind of character and as such am desensitized to their appearance on the street.
I am still figuring out exactly what I am looking for in a subject – and considering the things I’m avoiding (clichés, baseball caps, people of my own demographic etc) this may take me some time.
Once a subject has caught my eye however I rarely have an issue with approaching them. I’m not usually one for small talk, so I’ll go for a cold open – say hello, introduce myself, and then ask if they would be OK with me making a portrait of them. If they ask why I’ll usually highlight some detail – I liked your hair; you have an interesting face, that sort of thing.
If they disagree I’ll thank them for their time and wish them a nice day. If they agree however then that usually means I have about five minutes of their time with which to collaborate on their portrait. I have to give myself this five minutes as when I was starting out I would often worry that I was wasting their time, and would hurry my shot and produce something mediocre.
If I take my time, the subject is more likely to respect the process and the results and will feel like I know what I’m doing. I try to have an idea of what I’ll be going for as I approach them, so I’m not umming my way through asking them to look into their lens, turn toward the light and so on.
I’m not the best at posing or positioning; I prefer for a simpler pose from the subject and as long as the light is right I’m usually happy with the overall scene. However, at this point, my motivation starts to fall apart, as I tend to dislike my results from both posed and more candid presentations. A “pose” does not result in the kind of street portrait I am going for, and a more candid image, or plain with a relaxed face, does not have the same kind of energy I would have noticed when I first spotted my subject.
I’m certain there is something more I could be doing in order to achieve a portrait that is a little more than just a headshot of someone with an interesting face. I think there is something missing, perhaps with the way I render context or the way I ask them to present themselves to the camera – and this is something I will be working on for a long time.
What I want to be capturing in a street portrait is quite abstract and subjective, so when I say I want to capture the “soul” of my subject I’m still trying to figure out what that means myself. The portraits that resonate with me so far, both that I have taken and by artists I admire, will be the ones with a clear mood and intention, and sometimes have a personal connection – either images of people I know, or with an aesthetic that’s reminiscent of someone in my past – but these will be the most subjective examples. Portraits of my friends I consider to be personal documentary, and again wouldn’t really have much room in my portfolio.
The portraits which do not resonate with me are either boring or well composed but without “energy,” or “soul.” I think that in my own work eye contact will be one of the most significant things I need to improve when it comes to street portraits, but I’ve had mixed experiences with this, so it cannot be the only factor.
For example I quite like a small series of celebrity portraits I’ve been building up during my time shooting at MCM Comic Con (although they would not make the final cut when reviewing portraits as a specific body of work), each of which I shoot a couple of images of when I have the chance – portrait, landscape/eye contact, no eye contact. I find I enjoy both examples where eye contact is made, and where it is not, and it really depends on the expression more than anything in these cases.
Instead of specific aspects like eye contact, therefore, I think I ought to look at my portraits on the individual merit of what specifically does not work, and simply reduce that factor when it comes to future attempts. I try and avoid the idea of “liking” or “disliking” when it comes to criticism of any photography, my own or otherwise – looking at what works and what does not is more pragmatic, and can be used to actually improve. When it comes to what works in the portraits I enjoy it is usually a unique subject paired with an understanding by the photographer of how to bring out something “beyond” their eyes – a sparkle (lighting more than anything), or hint of expression. I’ve been working on the way I interact, leading without showing the camera to build up a better rapport before asking for anything, no matter how plain. I don’t just want headshots, I want to incorporate context, so I will be working on searching for better environments to use, and maybe try identifying a “spot” before even finding my subject.
However up until now my instinct has been to get as close as possible and fill the frame, and from a higher angle when possible, as the lower part of the frame becomes context, but the context of that person’s clothing rather than their environment. I need to work on the ideal distance for the kind of atmosphere I want to be showing in my portraits.
To do this I’ve decided to start working on a series of portraits on an RZ67, a format I’ve never really used before. The new aspect ratio and focal length equivalency mean that I will be forced to experiment with angles and distances I’ve never had to think about before. It will also mean being able to concentrate on my subject dead on through the SLR rather than via a screen, or rangefinder – to slow down and make focus and composition my primary goals.
I’m really looking forward to taking this out over the summer, and hopefully succeeding at creating images that resonate with me and in the process figure out exactly what is necessary for me to do that in the first place!
