I understand the reason why MDRF went with online only ticket sales.
But goddamnit they are sold out through the end of the fucking season. So I can't go again this year. How does this keep fucking happening to me? Why is it that I can't fucking have one goddamn thing?
I can't go see buddy guy at wolftrap because I have to work and my ride has to work.
I get sick the weekend of the car show.
I get screwed over and have to cover shifts all three days of one steam show and spend the one day I could go to the other texting my coworkers where to find shit.
I almost don't fucking make it to the spirits expo in Charlottesville because Amtrak is a fucking disaster and a half so I only spent an hour frantically trying to visit my favorites.
I couldn't visit my grandmother for her 99th birthday because of my work schedule and everyone else being equally inflexible.
I might actually murder the next asshole who tries me at work. I might actually physically beat someone into a bloody fucking mess in the middle of our goddamn carpet.
Fuck this shit.

How Many Diabetics Are Actually Aware Of Their Condition?
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose goes beyond its limit. The body produces insulin to help the glucose from the food get into your cells so that it can be used for energy. But sometimes, the body doesn’t make enough insulin, which keeps the glucose within the blood itself. Having too much glucose in your blood can cause diabetes as well as many other health problems. Remember, whether your diabetes value is too high, or it is only on the border, every condition and case of diabetes is serious!
India and diabetes
Almost 10% of Indians are suffering from diabetes today; and can you believe it, around one in every two Indians living with diabetes is unaware of their condition! Moreover, only half of those who realize that they have diabetes are able to manage their condition and bring it under control. This means that only 25% of diabetics in India are able to cure, or at the least, maintain their condition!
Variation in health system performance for managing diabetes among states in India – The study
This number of 25 has been brought up only after a good amount of survey and research done. It was a cross-sectional study of individuals aged 15 to 50 years, which was conducted by the PHFI, MDRF, and the Harvard School of Public Health, along with other international organizations. They used secondary data from the National Family Health Survey 2015-16 for the analysis, and concluded what has been mentioned above.
How can diabetes be identified?
Developed countries have their citizens undertake regular health checkups to monitor all their diseases, which even include non-communicable ones. We need to adopt this approach in India too, which will help monitor blood glucose levels, and thus keep a check on diabetes. Otherwise, in India, we only undergo a checkup when a health certificate is required; which is a very wrong practice. This clearly shows that we aren’t undergoing health checkups for our own sake, but only for the sake of clearing a document that can help us achieve something that we may want; like a visa, a job, or the like.
Diabetes is a silent disease, which is why one may not be able to realize that they are suffering from it. But, if you really want to keep a check, you will have to undergo routine health checkups and look for even the slightest symptoms so that they can be treated immediately and more effectively, before they reach a higher stage.
The future of diabetes in India
With the way that India is growing its diabetic population year after year, it seems like it will become the diabetes capital of the world in the next few years! In fact, the International Diabetes Federation has also estimated that by 2045, India will have more than 130 million diabetic patients across the country!
How can diabetes be treated?
Diabetes may, if left untreated, develop harmful cases like kidney problems, which may require transplant or dialysis. While this is a huge problem for the patients themselves, another fact is that we don’t have enough donors for the transplant as well. Moreover, the dialysis may cost at least Rs. 3 lakhs every year, which is almost unaffordable by a major percentage of Indians.
Diabetes can be of two types – one in which the body stops making insulin at all; and the other in which the body cells cannot use blood sugar efficiently for energy. While both these types of diabetes can be controlled with the help of dietary changes and exercise, the first type will require insulin, while the second type will require non-insulin medications. How all of this is found and implied, is all thanks to the hardworking clinical researchers and scientists. You can also become one of these highly esteemed individuals by undertaking professional online clinical research training from a reputed institute like Avigna Clinical Research Institute.

Lancet Survey: Over 11% Indians Are Diabetic, 36% Have Hypertension
Tumblr media
Lancet Survey: Indians are well aware that diabetes, pre-diabetes, and hypertension are on the rise throughout the Asian continent. According to a recent study published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology journal, the prevalence of diabetes in India is 11.4%, with 35.5% and 15.3% of people suffering from hypertension and prediabetes, respectively.
The study may have shown that, as a result of rising urbanisation and the Covid pandemic, India became a sicker nation beset by lifestyle disorders.
The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) study, conducted in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, also discovered that the prevalence of generalised obesity and abdominal obesity in India was 28.6 and 39.5 percent, respectively.
In 2021, India is expected to have 254 million people with generalised obesity and 351 million with abdominal obesity, according to estimates.
According to the Lancet Survey and largest epidemiological study on diabetes and noncommunicable diseases (NCD), India would have 101 million individuals with diabetes, 136 million with prediabetes, and 315 million with high blood pressure in 2021.
Except for prediabetes, all metabolic NCDs were more common in cities than in rural regions. Diabetes to prediabetes ratios were less than one in numerous states with poorer human development indexes.

Among the states, Goa (26.4%) had the greatest prevalence of diabetes and Uttar Pradesh (4.8%) had the lowest, while Sikkim (31.3%) and Mizoram (6.8%) had the highest and lowest burdens of prediabetes, respectively.
According to the study, Punjab had the highest prevalence of hypertension (51.8%), while Meghalaya had the highest burden (24.3%).
Experts sound alarm
“The sharp rise in NCDs can be attributed primarily to people’s lifestyle choices, such as diet, physical activity, stress levels, and so on.” The good news is that therapies can be employed to slow down the tendency. Our research has multiple implications for the planning and provision of health care in India,” MDRF President Dr. R. M. Anjana told PTI.
“In India, the diabetes epidemic is in transition according to Lancet Survey, with some states having already reached peak rates and others just getting started.” “These states may see an increase in prevalence over the next 3-5 years before plateauing,” said Anjana, the study’s primary author.
“In India, the overall incidence of diabetes and other metabolic NCDs is significantly higher than previously estimated.” While the diabetes epidemic is stabilising in the country’s more developed states, it is still spreading in the majority of the country’s other states, according to the study’s authors.
“As a result, there are serious implications for the nation, necessitating urgent state-specific policies and interventions to arrest India’s rapidly rising epidemic of metabolic NCDs,” they said.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who liked or reblogged something from you! Get to know your mutuals and followers✨
Oh boy! This is a loaded question! Happiness short term or long term? Those are two entirely different things. To quote Gretchen Rubin, “sometimes happiness doesn’t make us feel happy”. But anyway
Small joys in nature. Knowing the crows who visit my yard and knowing they know me. Eating a strawberry or wild blackberry or sugar snap pea pod straight off the vine. I know about dirt and germs I simply do not care. Fight me.
Exercising, which falls into the second category because I haven’t really done it since I got laid off. Oops. So thanks for the reminder.
Cooking for friends and family, and nerding out about historical recipes. Cooking helped me greatly in overcoming my general anxiety (diagnosed). I went from crying on the kitchen floor if I forgot an ingredient at the store to knowing substitutions and just throwing some things together, because I realized any fuck up is ephemeral. It is a low stakes way to conquer perfectionism.
Taking niche classes like open hearth cookery and copper arts and blacksmithing. Even if I’m frustrated in the moment, I never regret the time and money spent.
My greatest hobby love of all, the Maryland Renaissance Festival. My beloved Pub Sing when will you return to me? (August 24 2024)
