It's been a while since I last watched a Vampire movie.
This one is 'Balls-to-the-Wall' crazy... but I loved every moment of it!

DAY SHIFT (2022) Grade: D+
It's mostly a waste of time. Buddy comedy with two leads who don't mesh. The color scheme might be the best quality of the entire movie.

The thing that stuck out to me the most was when she said that the pairs sports for Beijing had already been determined and she was told not to say what she thought on the broadcast about who should go. They didn't stand a chance from the get-go, no matter what they did. It's something many of us have long suspected, and the way Evelyn was treated in particular was so gross. Shame on all of them. I would've quit too.
i didn't hear her say the spots were predetermined - can you say where you hear her say that? i relistened, and she said that for the 2022 Canadian Nationals broadcast, she was asked not to make any comments on the Olympic team selection, but instead she got excited about Evelyn and Trennt's free skate and said on air that they deserved to go to the Olympics
that doesn't mean Evelyn and Trennt did or didn't have a chance, but what i heard Meagan say didn't point to that one way or the other. only that Skate Canada was really unhappy with her for airing her opinion when she was expressly asked not to, and for saying what she thought the decision should be when she was in a role as their official commentator

“It’s definitely a bit of a rollercoaster. It’s a tour definitely mixed with some reflection of previous tours and how I remember it,” the 33-year-old Chan says on a day off from Toronto, before the SOI cast headed off to Regina for a show on Thursday night. “I saw Scott (Moir) in London, he came to the show … just hugging him and talking with him, I got really emotional for some reason. It brought back a flood of memories of what it was like touring with Scott and what that meant to me. And the memories we made and the things I learned, the stupid things we did … just everything came rushing back. “We went through the juniors together and all the way to the top. I have moments like that where I just reflect and reminisce a lot on how things used to be. But at the same time, I miss my family, I miss my wife (former pairs skater Elizabeth Putnam), I miss (his son) Oliver a lot … I think I’m stepping away at the right time, considering where I am in my life and how hard being away from my son for four weeks has been already. I knew it was never going to be easy; these types of decisions are always tough.” [...] “You know, this cast has changed a lot. It’s been a changing of the guard. I’m the only one left from back when Scott and Tessa were doing tours, and Eric (Redford) and Meagan (Duhamel) … I’m really the only one left. I do feel that. It is a pretty stark reminder every show,” he said. “It’s not such the case now, because everyone is still competing and everyone is younger. I connect the best with Deanna (Stellato-Dudek, the ageless 40-year-old who just won a World pairs title with Maxime Deschamps), actually, because I can just relate to her — we’re in similar places in our lives, and share a similar perspective.” [...] “It taught me the hard work, the dedication, putting your mind to something and finishing it and all that. Most importantly, it taught me how to be a professional, how to carry myself and hold myself to a certain standard. Being around other champions from multiple generations —you’re talking Elvis (Stojko), Kurt, also Scott and Tessa —they were all such successful individuals, but also different,” he said. “But at the end of the day, when it comes to being professional and showing up and doing your job correctly, we held ourselves to that standard. And then being a good person. Knowing when to have fun, when to be serious. And also, how to get through the struggles, how to figure things out when things aren’t clicking at 100 per cent. [...] “I didn’t get to go to university, I didn’t have that key development time (in my life). Scott was my guy, and all these other cast members. Andrew Poje and Eric Radford … all these skaters were more than just my teammates, they were my life and my social circle. It does feel like it’s all coming to an end and it’s weird that Stars is kind of marking that last chapter.” [...] “For me, Halifax always stands out. I always have really fond memories of Halifax, because it would be the end of the season, the weather was changing, and I’d sit by the harbour in Halifax and reflect on the season. And then I’d get really excited about seeing my friends and developing a show together,” he said. “Spending hours together on the ice, but also goofing around and finding that good balance of work and fun. Halifax was just such a great city to start in. And there were the bus rides and traditions that I try to keep going and pass onto the next generation, but I’m finding it harder to (do that). I’m not Scott. I realized that pretty quick.”

Skate Canada making Meagan do transportation of officials when she begged to be able to mentor young skaters...yeah they're going to HELL. They're just being stupid now. Maybe I'm being naive but I cannot imagine most federations shooting themselves in the foot and turning one of their most decorated athletes into a damn uber driver. Like can you imagine USFS doing this to idk, Meryl? And Meagan is also totally right about the lackluster push to get their medals. It made me laugh when she was like "why am /I/ the one fighting for Vanessa and Eric's Olympic medal??!??"
If I were Meagan I would perform a coup and oust Mike Slipchuck from Skate Canada, and create a dictatorship. She would have shit running like gangbusters in about 6 months. I'm so serious.

meagan duhamel on tsl talking about how disorganized and ineffective skate canada is and mentioning tessa and scott in a couple contexts:
about how poorly attended Nationals was: why did they not go to local skating clubs and give them tickets to come watch Nationals? i know that didn’t happen [… ] my husband told me that he was talking to a couple of coaches from around the area. none of the local skating clubs had posters of Nationals at the rink […] the cold has nothing to do with this. the tickets weren’t bought- nobody had a ticket and chose not to go out
about how it's necessary to be bold and think outside the current box: it’s hard to be bold though - because like I’m one of the bold ones - and like Skate Canada hates me. they would never listen to my advice. when I retired I volunteered myself to be a team leader for junior grand prix, and they were like no thanks, we already have team leaders. if I think of myself as a junior skater, and a recently retired Olympic champion or world champion was going to team lead my junior grand prix that would have been life changing for me, but like no thanks we don’t need you
[...] we need to speak up if we want to create change- we need these voices we need people who are courageous enough to put themselves on the line. i would love to work within high performance, i would love it. high performance figure skating. Skate Canada would nev- they’re so scared of what i’m gonna say that they would never
about talking Patrick Chan into committing to the team event in PYC: Scott and Eric were the ones responsible (for that happening)
about taking packaging out of the picture: what would happen if the skaters all wore black leggings and a black tank top and no makeup and didn't have their hair done and skating was judged on the skate- the purity of the skating and the performance and not distracted by the costume? who would be the champions? who would be the champions right now if that was how we did things? and you know who put that seed in my head many years ago was Tessa Virtue - she was like why don't we all just wear black? and i think it was meant for the same reason as i'm thinking - where you're being judged on the purity of your figure skating - instead of on your costume, makeup, or your hair
