Would anybody like my Mechanisms one shot fanfic (violinspector) based on a Forgetmenauts song (Tam Lin)??? Because here it is!! Very proud of it and super nervous to share:

Fic summary: "Ten years ago now, Lyfrassir had been left behind in the trio's escape from the Bifrost. In those ten years, Marius mourns, and wishes for nothing more than their safety, and their return. In a Tam Lin esque story, he might finally have the chance to get them back."

I'm transferring my files to a new computer and I found a whole bunch of unfinished fics from my Mechs phase and I think I might finish and post the ones that are nearly finished. Just reading some of them gave me such a swell of emotion that I really do want to see if I can finish them.

Most of the files I have are unfinished Mechstober 2020 fics, so you can see how long it's been.

"learn to code" as advice is such bullshit. i have learned and used four and a half different coding languages through my career (html/css, java, python+sql, c++) and when i say used i mean I've built things in every one but the things that i actually used these languages for??? these earn zero money (with the caveat of until you have seniority in, e.g. front end web dev) what people really mean when they say learn coding is "learn to code. go into investment banking or finance startups." coding does not inherently have money in it. my absolute favourite part of coding? my peak enjoyment? was when i was developing for a visual coding language (you put it together like a flowchart, so say youre using a temperature sensor and you want it to log the temperature once every four hours, you can put the blocks together to make it do that. i was writing the code behind the blocks for new sensors) and i was earning £24k a year and that wasn't even part of my main role. it was an extra voluntary thing i was doing (i was working as a research assistant in biosensors - sort of - at a university, and was developing the visual code for students who didnt want to learn c++) like. i want people to learn to code, i want people to know how their electrical equipment works and how coding works, but dont believe the myth that there is inherently money in coding. the valuable things, the things people are passionate about are still vulnerable to the passion tax (if you want to do it you dont have to be paid for it). skills arent where the money is, money is where the money is.

I would love to get into more new farm sim and visual novel games, but I feel like a lot of them not only fail to create their own unique games, but present a very sanitized story and characters.

For the uniqueness aspect - it's not enough to create "stardew valley but 3d and in space" or something. It's still a stardew valley copy. Taking inspiration is one thing, but what new are you bringing to the table if your only source of inspiration is one game? I've already spent hundreds of hours with these exact mechanics on another game, why should I do that on something that is basically just a reskin of that?

And I feel like when it comes to characters and story, a lot of creators are afraid of negative feedback or doing something wrong, so they keep all of their characters very "morally good" and pure and sanitized so there's no real character development. Characters may have a troubled past or struggle with something, but god forbid if it affects them as a character in any negative way.

Idk something about marketability ruining creativity.

We annoyed our DM yesterday so he tried to educationally TPK us and failed epically, having to settle on three hour battle, abducting two unconscious team members and running away through a portal. Now he has to come up with a whole new plotline for saving our characters and I got to brag about my Future Character Bank by pulling out a complete spare character to pilot for the rest of the session and the near future. All in all pretty fun.

my new notetaking system is too new for anything like this yet, but in my head i live in a future where i have an actual file cabinet i can store old notes in, organized in file folders by topic, and it's a wonder <3

hjkdslksdf in all seriousness, I did take a look, but in the long term i tend to have issues when the fc is less emotive overall!

i mean look at this guy. he is so fucking round and funny. but one may have to like, draw new ones, reuse a lot, or rely more on text. if you can do it, more power to you!

But i also just kinda wanted something a bit more personalized, too. A fluffy white sheep with an undocked tail is more my style here. And mincinno fits the art style slightly better imo, he is like a little man. There's icons here that actually fit some story elements too. i'm just being a creative lil guy!

i also like the headcanon that his wool and tail grew out later on, for like symbolic story reasons with sheep farming. i hope his long and fluffy sheep tail scares people in-character, i think that would be funny.
