There's something so nifty and deliciously dark-ish(?) about Meg serving Castiel's Cause.

Like, she thought she was recruiting Cas to her cause, which is protecting herself (by killing Crowley, naturally).

Then she and Sam have a big standoff where she brags that Cas is hers, not Sam's:

If you squint, it's colored in shades of the Sam and Dean with John versus John being nursed back to health by Kate Milligan.

Perhaps John started pulling away from the Azazel mission, longing to start over with a new family, but in doing that, he never made it up to Sam and Dean...

This ALSO has vibes of, "You can't stand that he's miiiine."

She can joke about this and do this power play with Sam because this is just a power dynamic between them. It's more emotionally safe to through out those innuendo bombs because they don't really land.

BUT.

She won't make these kind of jokes quite as overtly with Dean, because she slowly comes to see how she'd lose against... whatever huge thing that is between them. (This parallels how Crowley does family/work power plays with Sam, but not really Cas. And it's noticeable because, Crowley is a goading/braggadocious character.)

Poor Meg. She's so easy.

A little chivalry has her swooning inside like like WTF IS HAPPENING TO ME??? O_O

It's like she said: no one's ever gone to bat for her. Azazel lavished her with attention and Lucifer petted her faced and cooed affirmations at her, but they also related her wholesale like a solider, throwing her into the fire without ever even pretending to care about her safety.

(And even before that, she was an instrument of Alastair, always a blunt instrument in one way or another, even wielding her sexuality to the ends of the mission.)

Like characters like Claire, Dean, etc literally all it takes to crack her open is a caring word or two. And like characters like Crowley, Rowena, etc despite her bluster, she's catching feelings, no matter all the assaults and the manipulations and the murders that came before.

But then! She wound up serving Cas's cause: protecting his family.

Yes, she's being protected, but she's expected to do her part in sharing in the protecting, too.

In a way, she very much reminds me of the dynamic we will see playout with Josie Sands and Henry Winchester, loving him and slowly realizing that all of his focus is on Millie an John, even the mission.

The more time Meg spends with them, the more she sees the truth of it. But unlike her one-upmanship with Sam, when it comes to Dean, her feelings seem more... like a twinge of hurt.

Like "Oh. Them? STILL them?"

And in a way, especially when she wields the angel blade, she's acting as Cas's soldier / in his stead.

When Hester goes for Dean, Cas steps in the way, and then Hester goes for Cas, beating on him. Sam and Dean rush into help, but the angels, knowing how much they mean to each other, are quick to step in.

But no one's watching Meg.

Because they don't expect her to care for Cas.

And when Sam accepts her, she's slowly folding into Sam's family dynamic, as a supporter of Sam's cause(s). But crucially, that cause puts her in danger. The boys call Crowley against her wishes.

(And she's right. He'll eventually kill her for being a Lucifer loyalist.).

But here's the dark glimmer: Cas WON'T let her leave. When she's needed, he brings her back:

When the boys call Crowley, she can't run then either:

Crowley in typical Crowley-style, off-key denigrates her intelligence "you have no sense of poetry."

So, Meg.

It's not exactly servitude, and it's not exactly freedom.

So messy!

But still, Meg remains in Sam's Cause.

We'll see her go from wielding Ruby's blade to then Cas's blade to THEN the Winchester-family-oriented machete in the finale (not to mention driving theeeee car).

Is she family? No, but she's earned something here.

(no matter all the assaults and the manipulations and the murders that came before)

And yeah, she's done some bad shit (assault, possession, etc, so much in the name of Mission), but hey, unlike the s5 Crowley allyship, she isn't holding a family member's soul captive... or keeping blackmail-kissing-pictures of them for humiliation purposes, then throwing them a bone of kindness every once in awhile to try to soften... that.

No, Meg is more genuine at this point, and she's pretty nakedly honest about her motivations and about the give-and-take of the dynamic.

And that's definitely something interesting.

Aside// I think if Cas worked to free Ruby from The Empty in earnest, she'd be a Castiel loyalist in two shakes, too. Sorry / not sorry. Ruby would be doomed to be a Castiel stan imho.

Explanations and Sources below the cut.

Unicron Trilogy Energon - ~14 feet 3 inches (No actual source, and Energon doesn't have any listed heights anywhere. For the uneducated, the Unicron Trilogy has given each of its 3 seasons separate names and 3 separate art styles. This is the design used in Energon (S2) though he only shows up in Energon. I was able to compare him to Optimus, and using Cybertron's listed heights, I got this number. I am in physical pain, it does not get better from here. Hilarious side note, his Japanese name is Laserwave, which contains the missing "wave" of Shockwave in this iteration's name.)

Earth Spark - ~15 feet (No actual source for ES, but using a barn door to get Bumblebee's height, then Optimus's, then Megatron's height, I was able to make a guess at Shockwave's. Shockwave comes up to about Megatron's chin; I lost the screenshot I used. It's so convoluted, I know, but it's all I have, also, tiny universe, everyone is so small)

TFA Longarm/V1 - 15 feet 2 inches (Animated has no actual numbers, but the lovely @phoenix-inanis has provided a frankly astounding resource with their own calculations for the heights of all the TFA characters. Gen 1 - ~18 feet (TFWiki, uuuuh I've got nothing to add)

Netflix Cybertron Trilogy - ~18 feet (I have no source for this, other than assuming that because this design is identical to Gen 1, they are the same height. That's it, really)

Knight/Capel-Verse - ~18 feet (No source, and he never stands next to anyone I can measure him against, but because the TFOne director has said that this movie is both canon to the LA movies and its own separate canon, I am assuming the height I figured out for TFOne applies to this universe as well. Until proven otherwise. Capel directed the ROTB movie if you're wondering why his name is there)

One - ~18 feet (No source, I got this number by comparing him to Optimus. Now, I am aware of the TFO heights listed on the wiki, but I reject those numbers on principal. A: Those numbers are sourced from the Walmart Promotional AR Experience that came out before the movie. B: There are three decimal points, and that number does not convert into a whole number in meters (which is originally what I thought was weird about it). C: The director has said that this movie is both canon to the LA movies and its own separate canon, so I have elected to use the few given heights we have from KCV and worked from there. My Optimus post has slightly more context if you want it)

Cyberverse - 20 feet (This comes from a screenshot of this video which has the Cyberverse height chart everyone uses, though the quality of the screenshot is iffy.)

Aligned Cont. WF/FOC/TFP - 26 feet 2 inches (This number comes from Fandom and I completely believe it, even if they don't list their source, because the entirety of this universe is freakishly tall. Go look at my other charts, all the ALC designs are monstrous compared to the others)

Bayverse - ~30 feet (Ok, so I don't have a source for this one. There used to be one, BV Shockwave used to be listed as 40 feet tall bc of an article done to promote the movie, but that is no longer listed for reasons not known to me, and making some comparisons to Optimus, I have found them to be kinda close in height. It's very hard to actually validate any of this. Shockwave never stands normally next to anything I can use as a ruler at any point in the movie. He's always at a dramatic angle or partially covered by something in the shot. It's so violently frustrating. I am confident he is around this height though, I just can't figure out how much taller than Optimus he is)

And that's it. I didn't have to leave any designs out, all of them are included here (hopefully). It was so nice to work with a character where I wasn't drowning in 20+ designs across every goddamn universe.

Having a great time imagining Jazzwave fuckin sloppy style in some quiet corner of an active battle

Having an objectively hilarious time imagining Soundwave accidentally getting pregnant from it and Megatron systematically shaking down every single Decepticon to find out who incapacitated his TIC until the dots start connecting. Obviously he then launches a raid just so he can declare directly to Optimus Prime's face that he will "track down the autobot fiend that BESMIRCHED and DEFILED his Third's honor, and separate their interfacing equipment from their body!" (while Soundwave facepalms in the background and Jazz pretends he totally isnt completely shocked and also panicking a lil bit)

Honestly just needed what I had in mind visualized tbh-

Soooo I actually have a reason other than just cuz for having Starscream's iris' yellow instead of the typical white p much all other bots got. Its an Outlier thing! Warp's can go a shade of purple pink mid-warp, and thunder's can get a bit blue when he really uses his sonic powers. Also theres a reason why Soundwave always wears his visor, so ya cant try and tell if he be readin ur mind waves.

So with Starscream's Outlier ability, that's at base a super healing thing, his optics will get more yellow whenever it's actively trying to fix damages or during adrenaline jumps.

When it comes to the drama surrounding Megatron forcing Starscream to change his optics from blue to red a bit after the war started-Star fought that shit hard. His blue optics were like the one thing from Skyfire that /hadn't/ been taken from him. But ultimately, he lost that fight. Changed them. Hoped it'd help chill Megs even a bit. It didn't, rlly, which pissed him off even more, but he wasn't gonna jus change em back again for fear of Megs kicking his aft for it again. (later lore when Megatron is out of the picture, Star is hesitant to change em to blue again mainly due to feeling it'd be like, blasphemous now.)
