Reading: III've had 'Vivian Lantz's Second Chances' by Kathryn Ormsbee checked out of my local library for Longer Than Is Probably Acceptable. (It's Fucking Good) Also there's a fanfiction called 'Forever is my Tomorrow' by @mahoganyrust that has maaaaaaayyyybe colonized my entire brain.

Had an interesting idea. You may have noticed that in this post I implied that there may be at least one non-game-based living Character-Level server somewhere out in the digital multiverse that nobody knows about yet because they think it's impossible for one to form without outside influence. Well, I figured out which one it is: A universe made from a pirated collection of every official episode, movie, short, music video, and even scans of the dubiously canon IDW comics run of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, along with any other official media I can't think of at the moment. Because I can. Whoever owns the collection doesn't know that they have a real live Equestria at their fingertips because the actual media storage is a layer above the living universe (or universes, what with Starswirl's Mirror Portals), so watching/reading the stuff doesn't affect what's happening down there or vice-versa, and the characters also don't know that they're digital beings brought to life by the love of a fan.

If anyone, be they Program, Virus, Anomaly, or Character, were to go there they'd be changed into a form that fits the universe (so a pony/dragon/griffon/etc. choose whatever fits best in the main world, a human with the same color scheme as their Equestria form in the Canterlot High world) Because Mirror Portal Magic, though Code-Level entities can change back to their usual form if they prefer. When they leave they go back to normal. If any locals ever managed to go to other digital universes they'd stay in their usual forms because Most Universes Don't Do That. It's similar to the Enforced Art Styles of the Cats are Liquid and Fairly Oddparents universes, though FiM and CaL are obviously more drastic than FOP.

The first major characters to find out about this are Ozymandias and Garyboy, who stumble upon it at some point post-release and decide to use it as a base of operations, on the grounds that 1) Nobody else knows this world exists, 2) if anyone else did find it they'd never expect those two to be living there, and 3) the whole transformation thing means they can hide in plain sight. When they're there Garyboy is a purple-and-green pegasus with a black-cupped plunger for a cutie mark, while Ozzy is a vaguely serpentine dragon and his maneuver form is a Kirin. They later find out that prolonged exposure to Equestria's magic has had side-effects, namely that they can now use their Equestrian Form abilities (weather magic for Gary, fire breath, flaming rage form and unicorn magic for Ozzy) in their normal forms. That'll be fun to show off to their enemies.

yeah but not recently. i get hate for other things now :P

deep sigh. the problem with friends is that they will encourage you to do horrible, horrible, things (/lh /aff) anyway yeah i have two smut fics posted. possibly another one on the way but who can say for sure (<- i have an Idea but i may not have time for it). as for what kind.. whatever my enablerrrr friends encourage

i helped louie out with a margaret birthday fic, but beyond that it's mostly been coming up with AUs with other people rather than actually writing out fics

what's your all-time favorite ship?

i usually just say outlaw queen (regina x robin hood from ouat) for this one. they did irreversible damage to my psyche when i was a teenager. as for current favorite ships though, i'd say lucygin and any combination of kunichuuranzai excluding s.kk alone

what's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

i don't like declaring that i'll never finish a wip if i genuinely like it but i do have several longfic ideas that i probably just won't ever get around to even starting. mostly atla fics (azula-centric tuvml sequal, emma au,,) but there are probably some others from other fandoms as well that are escaping my mind at the moment

what are your writing strengths?

characterization!

what are your writing weaknesses?

not liking the popular ships and fanon characterizations. <- JOKING. IM JOKING. in all actuality it's probably the fact that i have way too many ideas and get distracted before i can finish (or start) and then if i'm rushing to finish something i end up putting in less effort than i'd like and it doesn't turn out as well as i'd hoped.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

do whatever you want forever, as long as you're being respectful about it

what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

i have like 100 bsd ships i want to write for and haven't yet. it's a problem. this is why all of my ships are rarepairs - because im not focusing on just one ship to churn out 1000 bad fics for--- ahem anyway. i'd love to write nikoran and tanitachihigulucygin polycule especially. i also want to write mizisua at some point but i don't have any ideas at the moment

Question: Are there any characters, like guest stars, that you wish would have had bigger roles, I guess? Instead of just being guest stars in one or two episodes?

Jared: Yeah, great question. I think one of the obvious ones, and he's fresh on both of our minds because we were just making fun of his show? It would have been great to have JDM around more. [Audience cheers] Yeah, and I think he wanted to be around, and it was just Grey's Anatomy picked him up before we could? They made the offer and we didn't really know where season one was going yet - we being the writers and the studio, hadn't quite figured out - I think we were making Bugs [pointed cough], and like we've got to change this a little bit. But there are a bunch! But again, one of the strange things is, though obviously selfishly I would have liked to have had the dynamic of dad and sons more? It's kind of perfect for what the story became? Looking at Supernatural as a whole, it was like that's kinda great because it made Sam - it made Jared as Sam - kinda want his dad more without being willing to say it. So when he got to come back, and we hit him in the [gestures] nuts with the [laughing] - Which was the most epic shot in all the years of -

Jensen: It was amazing, it was amazing. Yeah, there's kind of two lists, I would say. There's the list of the actors that we would love to have come back and then there's the list of the characters, and a lot of times those, they coincide. For instance, this actor and this character are both ones that I would have liked to have had explored the stories of - Benny. Explore that story a little bit more. I just thought that was such a unique character and that situation, especially given the fact that Dean was always so kind of cut and dried, black and white about - it's a monster, its gotta die. Well, here you had somebody who was, but he had befriended him. So I thought that posed some really good issues, but ultimately it's a show about two brothers and that's where it always kind of came back to, which was fun. But yeah, there were a lot of -

Jensen: Yeah, again, both the actor and the character were fantastic and would have loved to have worked more with - I'm trying to think of -

Jared: His character name?

Jensen: No no no no no, no, I'm trying to think of another one and I -

Jensen: There's so many, yeah.

Jared: Was there one that you had in mind when you asked?

Question: I just wanted Charlie to come back.

Jensen: I was gonna say Charlie is an obvious one, too, like to have her just kind of be a little bit more involved with the brothers' story, I think would have been great.

Jared: [points to fan from previous question who brought up some kind of megacrossover idea] Wonderfully, she's writing season 16, apparently, so ... Are you taking notes?

Jensen: Yeah, a little bit more Charlie.

Jared: A little more Charlie.

whoever is writing that one megacrossover on john wick ao3 that has like 41 comments all of which are from themselves on different accounts, just so you know i admire the commitment

Yeah, I might not have watched Winx Club outside of one or two episodes back when it was airing, but one megacrossover fanfic verse I used to follow (before they used the "cure your asexuals" trope and I just cut myself off from the entire thing), had Winx Club in one of the FEW segments that was safe from the overall quality decay (which of course meant that it was basically dead), and thus I am very familiar with how Diasporo was BASICALLY a designated villain prior to the whole "Love Potion" thing.

Mostly because, y'know, her fiance cheated on her with some other girl, while also keeping her existence and their engagement a SECRET from the girl he was cheating on her with, risking a potential international scandal in the process.

Which is a VERY valid reason to be upset, even if it doesn't justify her later actions!

So I'm guessing Diasporo won't be a villain in your reboot?

YEAH

Like re: Canon: I give Sky /some/ of a break because like.

1.) His thing with Diaspro was very clearly an arranged marriage where he didn't love her but only felt obligated to do out of a Duty to his People, and started to fall for Bloom naturally. He is conflicted about doing what he has to as a Royal vs. following his heart rather than 'oh which cute girl do I choose?', and later issues with Diaspro after Sky chooses Bloom are either Bloom being jealous and not trusting while he tries to keep Diaspro as a friend and caring about her general wellbeing as a person and/or Diaspro going full manipulative villain who does some love potion/mind control shit.

2.) In the first season, Sky had switched identities with Brandon because for security reasons. So while he cared about Bloom and was clearly falling for her, telling her about the switch is still off the table because he's trying to not fucking die(even if he thinks he can trust that Bloom isn't some assassin, he doesn't know how well she can keep secrets).

Like don't get me wrong, this is early 2000s heteronormativity so there's plenty of romance drama and fucking up with them overall. But this thing I at least look at the bigger picture for.

BUT YEAH DIASPRO AND THE ROMANCE DRAMA IN MY REWRITE IDEA

So first off, we still have the Sky/Brandon swap plot, but there's more weight added to the whole 'protect the prince' thing. Civil unrest in his homeworld, assassination attempts, etc. Sky is legit in danger, and swapping identities with Brandon is a good option to keep him safe.

Within my rewrite, he does voice that he does NOT like this plan. He does not want people to die for him, especially his best friend. But his parents overrule his wishes on that, and Brandon thinks that, as much as he doesn't want to die, Sky is a good person who will make good changes when he takes the throne so he is willing to risk himself to keep his friend safe. (Sky makes this very hard by risking himself to keep everyone else safe as well lmao)

So yeah they do the swap thing and telling the others is.... a little low on the list. Because of the danger, even if they trust the groups. (Riven and Timmy figure it out so quick tho lmao)

Back to Diaspro!

Diaspro is still, technically, Sky's fiance. However, Sky is very adamant that he is not going to marry her. Yes he has a duty to his people, but it is not going to be done by using her as a bargaining chip in a political alliance.

When Diaspro shows up and accidentally outs the 'they swapped and I'm his fiance' thing, everyone's understandably upset which has Sky ramble the whole thing to try and explain that he is very much not cheating he does love Bloom this is a Complicated™ situation etc. Which.... yeah there's a little hurt still because emotions aren't always rational, but everyone understands.

Diaspro doesn't exactly take this /well/ because while Sky has kinda said it before, this is the first time he's been very blunt and makes her realize that he might be serious. She does kinda start a fight with Bloom in a 'jealous catfight' way, but Bloom can absolutely hold her own in a fight by now. Sky tries to talk to her and explain that he does still care about her, but he doesn't love her like that.

Diaspro kinda sulks off screen in denial until the Season Finale episodes. Er, long story short: giant Army of Darkness that is down to kill like fuckin everyone in it's path.

She shows up again to try and get Sky to evacuate. Save himself. He's a Prince, he should have people fighting for him, not be in the battle!

Sky gives her a speech about the kind of King he wants to be when he takes the throne. He wants to help his people, to protect them. How can he do that if he doesn't get involved and instead hides away in a palace, doing his best to relax while everyone else takes care of it for him?

It makes Diaspro pause for a moment. If they were still to get married one day, what kind of Queen would she want to be? She stays for the battle and helps out where she can.

In the time between seasons, Diaspro does a lot of thinking. Firstly, getting over the heartbreak and realizing it's not exactly heartbreak. She didn't love Sky. Not like a romantic love at least, she still cares for him. But the idea of him as her future husband has been in her head since she was a child.

Which leads her to thinking over her life. How everything her parents wanted her to do, everything they raised her for, every skill she has? It all is based around the idea that she's going to be Sky's trophy wife.

If that's not to be her future, she has no idea what to do. What would she even /want/ to do?

After much thought, she gets enrolled at Alfea. Lying to her parents about how going to the school would let her be around Sky more often and 'win him back from that harlot!', but having no intention of doing so.

Within Season 2, Diaspro gets dragged into the main group through both seeking Bloom out to apologize for before and reassure her, and also because the Main Plot involves being underground, and Diaspro's Earth and Gemstone-based Magic will help a lot with that.

I don't have direct plans for her in further seasons other than agreeing with Sky about dissolving their marriage arrangement and that their Realm needs a lot of changes in the coming future.

Funny thing I noticed; I am a member of a group of four writers who are working on a massive megacrossover centred around every single horrible thing that can happen to people happening (murder, molestation, mutilation, etc). I'm the only one of the group who isn't a devout churchgoing Christian.

What fandoms do you write for?

I tend to bounce from fandom to fandom and don't generally return to older ones, so the fandoms I've written for in the past I may not write much or at all in the future. I've written the most works for IT Movies, followed by Star Wars, but more recently I've been writing for The Locked Tomb and Danganronpa. All for the Game is probably my longest-standing fandom I can easily dip back into. I also have a bunch of other fandoms I've tried out writing once or twice for exchanges.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Unexpected - 1,192 kudos. Bojack Horseman, Bojack/Mr. Peanutbutter. Fake dating/accidental marriage. For a long time it was the most kudosed fic in the fandom but has now been surpassed by a couple of megacrossovers. I'm pretty proud of this one--I love any fic where I get to stretch my comedy muscles and I've been told it does pretty well at hitting the canon tone.

you know what they say about assumptions - 865 kudos. Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Anakin/Padme/Obi-Wan. Modern AU. Maybe the only modern AU I've ever written? I think it's just had a long time to compile kudos.

Into the Dark - 716 kudos. IT Movies, Richie/Eddie. Time loop.

The Kids Are Alright - 670 kudos. IT Movies, Richie/Eddie. Teen years getting together fic, the only explicit rated fic on this list.

Lights Will Guide You Home - 632 kudos. Star Wars, attempt at plot, eternally unfinished WIP that I started when I was sixteen. I do sometimes think about orphaning it.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I used to. I try to. But I ended up with a backlog that I can never get through and now I mostly just go in bursts and respond to everything on a couple recent fics and leave it at that.

What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This feels hard to determine! I've written a lot of stories and it's hard to remember all of them, lol. I'm excluding noncon because that's too easy. Scorp's suggestion for this one was quiet birds in circled flight, which is an IT fic where Richie commits suicide. the kind of love (i've been dreaming of) is a Raven Cycle resurrected-and-came-back-wrong fic. an eye for an eye is an All For The Game gore fic where Neil gets his eye taken out and everything is terrible.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Unexpected is an accidental-marriage-turns-real fic that is pretty fluffy. real love is a heart attack is an arranged-marriage-turns-sexy fic. Maybe that's a theme. (Realizing as I go through my fics that I rarely write endings that are really nice or really bad. Usually somewhere in the middle.)

Do you get hate on fics?

I wrote a werewolf porn fic where some people got really mad about the wolf sex in the comments. Other than that, just some unrequested concrit a couple of times.

Do you write smut?

All the time. My nano story from last month ending up gen was the biggest shock of my life.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Never have, and I don't know if I ever will. They just don't really appeal to me for some reason.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I think it happened in IT fandom, but by the time I went to look into it it was gone already.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! One of my All for the Game fics was translated into Russian.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Never done it. If I did so, I'd definitely want to ask someone who speaks the language to look it over for me.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, I think I'm too much of a control freak and also slightly uncertain how it would work.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

Whatever I'm currently obsessed with eclipses everything, so I don't know if I have all-timers, but Neil/Riko from All for the Game eats my brain all the time.

What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Anything from prior fandoms, really. But I can't think of any examples right now. I have a million little bits and pieces floating around in my google drive, but I'm not really thinking about them anymore.

What are your writing strengths?

I love writing smut. Apparently I'm good at dialogue, although I find it painful a lot of the time. When I try for comedy, it tends to land. And I love writing horror and I'm always delighted when people tell me I've genuinely disturbed them, lol.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm terrible at plot. It's really hard for me to think of things to happen, which seems like an insane problem for a writer to have, but it's true. And I'm not great at doing any kind of heavy editing. 80% of what I type the first time stays on the page.

First fandom you wrote for?

Hunger Games, when I was 11/12.

Favorite fic you've written?

Oh, man, I think I have a recency bias, but Crashing is definitely the fic I'm proudest of. It's 72k and almost five times as long as the previous longest story I'd ever finished. It was a huge accomplishment and I'm still so happy I did it.
