Life & Style, April 26
You can buy a copy of this issue for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Khloe Kardashian is a total fake
Tumblr media
Page 1: Lady Gaga in a wedding dress on the set of House of Gucci in Rome
Page 2: Contents
Tumblr media
Page 4: The Top 10 SAG Awards Looks -- Mindy Kaling, Jamie Chung, Amy Adams, Sarah Levy, Kerry Washington
Page 5: Kaley Cuoco, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Morales, Viola Davis, Lily Collins
Page 6: Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen celebrated their 12-year anniversary, posting heartfelt tributes to each other on social media, but their relationship hasn't always been so rock solid -- Tom admitted that Gisele has made a lot of sacrifices for their marriage and she hated living in Boston because she had no friends there and felt so alone because Tom was never around; things got so bad they sought counseling, which was the wake-up call that Tom needed -- he promised to make changes and he agreed to quit the Patriots and sign with a team in a location that was more desirable to Gisele and Tom stuck to his word and he came the new quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and since moving to Florida, Tom and Gisele have never been happier and they have date nights every week and always make sure to communicate -- it wasn't easy, but they're both really proud of how far they've come
Page 7: After multiple delays, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc have finally filmed the highly anticipated Friends reunion special and they all got really emotional when they saw the set and being there brought back so many fond memories -- it's the first time in 17 years that fans will get to see the entire cast together since the show went off the air in 2004 -- afterwards, everyone went to Jen's house for dinner -- each of the stars was paid $2.5 million to appear in the special
* Throwback -- Dolly Parton in 1965
* Biggest Spenders of the Week -- Bobby Flay, Aaron Rodgers, Vanessa Hudgens, Angelina Jolie
Page 8: Drew Barrymore revealed that, after three divorces and a string of failed romances, she's sworn off marriage altogether -- Drew doesn't need a man to feel complete and she's happiest hanging out with family and friends -- if the right guy comes along later down the line, great, but for now, she's content with being single
* Becoming one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood has gone straight to Ana de Armas' head -- the cast and crew are often left waiting for the actress to emerge from her trailer on the set of the new action thriller The Gray Man -- Ana's got a lot going on and she's juggling several different projects, as well as photo shoots and phone calls with her team and people don't stay mad at her for too long, but they have nicknamed her Ana de Diva, but she isn't upset by the scathing moniker because she's a big name now, and with that comes a lot of responsibility and the way she sees it, there are worse things than being called a diva
Page 10: The Week in Photos -- Orlando Bloom got a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny
Page 11: Jennifer Lopez in jeans at a photoshoot for InStyle, Priyanka Chopra dancing around her backyard in a bright yellow dress
Page 12: Animal Tales -- Gilles Marini posed for a pic with his African grey parrot Anya, singer Madison Beer leaned in for a kiss from a caramel-colored stallion, Kate Beckinsale's feline Clive seemed less than thrilled when Kate strapped him to her chest in a carrier
Page 13: Kaia Gerber and her precious pooch Milo snuggled up in bed, Malin Akerman and a goat
Page 16: Stars Behaving Badly -- Lisa Vanderpump let her parched dog drink from her water glass at a restaurant in West Hollywood, Maisie Williams went topless under a translucent jacket while shooting a new TV series about the Sex Pistols in London, HGTV Design Star host Allison Holker used a megaphone to give out instructions to Property Brother Jonathan Scott on the show's finale, Calvin Klein wasn't worried about stains when he shoved a pile of spaghetti into his mouth at West Hollywood's Mauro Cafe
Page 18: Say What?! Helena Bonham Carter who turns 55 in May, Chelsea Handler who admits she consumes mushrooms almost every day, Olivia Munn who is the proud pet parent of rescue dogs Frankie and Chance, Melissa McCarthy on doing her own stunts in Thunder Force, Brian Tyree Henry on Godzilla vs. Kong co-star Millie Bobby Brown
Page 20: Pete Davidson has officially moved out of his mother's home and into a $1.2 million luxury high-rise condo on Staten Island, and it's all thanks to his new girl girlfriend, Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor -- the Saturday Night Live star showed off his two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom bachelor pad during a Zoom call -- Phoebe is a down-to-earth girl, but she doesn't want to date a man who lives in his mom's basement and she thinks Pete's mom, Amy, is awesome and says it's a great thing that they're super close, but being in a long-distance relationship is difficult enough so Pete and Phoebe need some alone time when they're together, which was almost impossible with his mother hanging out upstairs -- Pete knew it was time; he just needed that gentle nudge
Page 21: Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell were spotted in NYC together, sparking speculation that the former Bachelor couple have rekindled their relationship -- the pair parted ways while the show was still airing after photos of the graphic designer at a plantation-themed college party in 2018 surfaced on social media -- Rachael made a mistake but she owned up to it and was willing to learn from it and it didn't change her feelings for Matt or vice versa and Matt was in love with Rachael too and he couldn't just turn those feelings off so no one would be surprised if they decided to reconcile
* Michael B. Jordan's girlfriend Lori Harvey was left reeling over photos of the actor sharing a smooch with Chante Adams on the set of their new movie A Journal for Jordan -- of course, they were just shooting a scene for the film, but Lori was still annoyed and she asked Michael about it, and he brushed it off and explained it was part of the job but Lori still has her suspicions and she's been thinking about dropping by the set just so she can keep a very close eye on them
Page 22: Cover Story -- Khloe Kardashian living a lie -- devastated by an unretouched photo leak, Khloe faces claims she's a body positivity hypocrite as she demands the viral image be taken down
Page 26: Alex Rodriguez to Ben Affleck: Back off my fiancee -- Ben gushes about ex Jennifer Lopez in a new article and A-Rod isn't happy about it (not quite Bennifer yet :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Page 28: Prince Harry overwhelmed with work -- Harry struggles to adjust after trading his cushy royal role for a variety of normal gigs -- though his job for BetterUp is primarily remote, added stress comes in the form of Harry's Spotify and Netflix deals, plus growing charity work -- Harry finds all of his new, non-royal titles fresh and exciting, but while he's a great person, some in his inner circle say Harry's kind of dumb and worry whether he can handle the pressure
Page 30: Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli life after prison -- reunited following months spent behind bars, Lori and Mossimo try to pick up the pieces -- prison definitely took a toll on Mossimo and he doesn't expect sympathy, but he's still struggling to adjust to what he went through; it really broke him down and forced him to reevaluate his life
Page 32: Who Lives Here? Lil Nas X
Page 34: Entertainment
Page 35: Star Review -- Jonathan Van Ness
* As Seen On-Screen -- Meghan Markle wore a dark green coat while walking through Archie's Chick-Inn during her CBS interview which was J. Crew's Perfect Lightweight Jacket

Considering there's now a Power Rangers movie, do you think it is possible that someone will go out there and make a live-action (or fully animated idk) series/movie out of Animorphs? Would you think it wise? We have the know-how to animate morphing and aliens, and there are probably many people out there who started reading Animorphs 20 years ago who are now working in the animation or film industry so the adaptation probably wouldn't stray too far from the original.
You know, I’m not sure Animorphs ever will get its own show or movie again.  I love the current format of turning books or series into entire freaking TV shows (American Gods, Handmaid’s Tale, etc.) and it might be cool to get a second crack at an Animorphs show, but… But I’m conflicted.
Reasons I’d love to see an Animorphs movie or show:
There would be a whole younger generation that we could bring into the fandom!  They could share in our hilarity and pain, which would be awesome.
It’s pretty much inevitable that the books would get re-released, which means we’d be able to stop relying on crappy PDFs any time we wanted to reread the series.
Visual media = greater internet fandom.
Seriously, though, TV shows > video games > movies > comics > novels when it comes to online fandoms, and I think a big part of that is the fact that Tumblr, Livejournal, and Reddit are so image-heavy.
And I really WANT this series to be so mainstream there are fandom wars and remixes and hipster-effects.  It’s so frustrating right now when people ask what I’m writing and I usually end up telling the truth but telling it slant (ex: “There aren’t enough stories about stereotypically masculine young men working as administrative assistants, so I decided to…” or “Have you ever thought about how demonic possession would affect neurological processes?  Because I have.”)  And it would be so nice to be able to say “I’m writing about Animorphs,” and have other people go “Oh, that super-disturbing series with the oatmeal jokes?”
There are some REALLY FREAKING COOL images in the series that it would be really freaking cool to see on a screen.  For instance: the huge hellish cavern where the yeerk pool is located, the iskoort and their backward knees, Cassie becoming a whale-osprey-human-andalite hybrid for a hot second in midair, Ax jumping backward over a swimming pool by accident, that freaking veleek, etcetera.
Reasons the idea of an Animorphs movie or show fills me with trepidation:
Have you SEEN AniTV?  I didn’t think it was possible for writing that good to get turned into scripting that bad, and yet.
Whitewashing.  DragonBall-Z, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, and Cloud Atlas all took minority characters from the original works and cast white actors.  AniTV itself whitewashed Eva and Ax.  I’d rather have no screen adaptation at all than one with an all-white cast or one that tokenizes any or all of the characters.
It’d be super-easy for the grey-and-black morality of the books to get lost in translation, which could lead to deeply unfortunate consequences if the kids are shown killing controllers left and right with abandon.  (See: Seasons 5 - 10 of Supernatural and the number of completely innocent humans the “heroes” straight-up MURDER because they happen to be in the way.)
Hollywood is allergic to tragedy.
The movie adaptations of Blood and Chocolate, I Robot, Catching Fire, Ender’s Game, Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, A Series of Unfortunate Events, I Am Legend, The Golden Compass, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Ella Enchanted, and Charlotte’s Web all took ambiguous or unhappy endings and made them fit the Hollywood mold, not only by having everything wrapped up with a nice bow (and no dead characters) at the end, but also by back-fitting genuinely original stories into tired and unoriginal tropes.
Animorphs would not be Animorphs if almost every book didn’t end with the characters not sure what they learned this week, outside of “war sucks, and then you die.” It definitely wouldn’t be Animorphs if the last two books weren’t all about how sometimes you have to make terrible sacrifices to stop evil.  I have a sneaking suspicion Hollywood would try to sweep all of that under the rug, especially if the screen adaptation was geared for the same audience as the books.
I’d be worried about the portrayal of the hosts.
As it is, AniTV already has some super fridge-horrifying moments that come from the writers’ failure to distinguish between yeerks and yeerk hosts.  Tom and Melissa make out and possibly sleep together while he’s definitely a controller and she might be as well, and the way that the series plays it for laughs suggests that no one did the math that 33 - 50% of the individuals in that relationship are physically incapable of giving consent.  The series also plays Chapman getting spattered with oatmeal and Iniss 226 going insane for laughs, even though the implications for poor ol’ Henrick are pretty horrifying. The books take the time to have the characters debate whether harming the hosts is worth it to harm the yeerks; the show genuinely doesn’t have the time to do that in its 25-minute run and so leaves those problematic questions out.
Similarly, it is super-easy to slide into victim-blaming where the controllers are concerned.  The books can give us moments like Naomi saying “You were Visser One,” and Eva coming back with “I beg your fucking pardon?” (I paraphrase).  They can have the heartbreaking scenes with Jake imagining what Tom thinks or feels while some alien acts uses him to try to kill their dad.  Visual media can’t necessarily convey that information, and would necessarily have to cast actors as Visser One, Visser Three, etc. who almost never stop to play the parts of Eva or Alloran.  As Supernatural demonstrates (sorry to keep picking on this show), it’s really easy to forget there’s an innocent human who doesn’t get a choice about being used as a weapon or being caught in the crossfire.  It could be so freaking easy to make Tom or Eva or Chapman or Alloran themselves into villains by just forgetting that the host exists at all.
Anyway, that’s all a very long-winded way of me saying that I DON’T KNOW IF I WANT A LIVE-ACTION ADAPTATION OR NOT.  Also that I care too much about the meatsuits, but anyone who follows this blog probably knew that by now.

13 December 2019
The morning after...
...the fright before, in Labour's case, with their worst general election performance since 1935. I think this is the current composition of the Commons:
Tumblr media
Expect more #dataviz from my team and me throughout the day - and weekend, and whenever a reshuffle happens...
In brief:
Last week's Inside Briefing sonification - literally, actually singing the polls - will be difficult to top. We also did this one on general election results. Helpfully, all our sonifications will be collected in this thread for as long as I remember to update it.
A reminder of last week's data reading list and list of UK government reports on data - please do add to them. And thanks to Alex for flagging this.
It's important to vote, despite widespread public apathy. A lesson Alice and I learnt this week as we tried to bring some jollity to people's Twitter timelines with the news/politics #ThemeTuneWorldCup. Catch up on what happened here - final couple of rounds here. Some of you have very strange tastes (On The Record getting knocked out that early, seriously?!). I think I only lost five followers.
Escape the election in favour of festive fun and come to the New Tottenham Singers Christmas concert tomorrow evening.
Until next week
Gavin

Would you tell us about your ocs? Anything at all about any of them. I love them all
Hello Anon~ I’m not sure if you’re the same one that asked me about my OCs the last time but I never got around to answering it because I wasn’t entirely sure where to start...Most of my OCs have been created for stories that are either in the works or have been dropped so I guess I never expected anyone to ask about them BUT I guess I could talk a bit about the handful that I’ve pretty much fleshed out... I don’t really have any good drawings of them saved on my computer though so you’ll just have to take he descriptions~
Sirena is probably my favorite character I've created and I actually have posted a few pictures of her on this blog! She was created for a webcomic I actually have a few pages of but sort of dropped because I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with the story...I might pick it back up again eventually though and make it more slice-of-life rather than the action story I thought up...BUT she’s a centuries-old witch girl with a best friend who’s a ghost and a snake familiar~
her ghost friend is Zeke, he was a human back before Sirena became immortal and when he died she was so distraught that she attached his spirit to the ribbon he used to wear in his hair. Now she wears that ribbon in her own hair which means he’s basically bound to her.
Dimitri is another character from the same universe! He’s a reaper (the “son” of death itself in fact!!) and lives in the same apartment with Sirena and Zeke. He keeps his eyes covered at all times~
Aris is a very old OC of mine that I created back when I watched Rise of the Guardians and have fleshed out a lot from there. Depending on what universe I have her in she switches between being an actual Earth Spirit and just a human connected to the Earth. There’s a novel I slowly post chapters for that involve her being a “Vessel” for the Earth spirit Gaia, which allows her to manipulate the Earth to her will (sort of ATLA style). I have a lot of characters in that universe as well but there’s too many to explain haha.
Lastly we have Logan! A sky pirate with a tragic backstory that I use for role-plays on here! He lives in a steampunk universe where fae magic also resides, and after a huge accident he needs magic in order to see, although he remains blind in one eye his sight in the other eye is amazing. His role on the ship is the helmsman, and he’s amazing at his job~ On one of his missions he ended up involving an OC by @clockworkapothecary and after many shenanigans and near-death experiences he is madly in love with her (yes this is an important point about him because Melissa helped to shape Logan a lot into what he is today)
Thanks again Anon for asking about my OCs and I hope you enjoy reading about my dorks...I have quite a few more but these are my favorites/the ones I have fleshed out the most!!!

Last Time’s Egao Count: 284
Captain Falcon: Yuya. Yuto is inside you. He is still living.
Yuya: Yuto is inside me?
Captain Falcon: There is still hope. Even if the person inside that core is Ray or Yuzu, I’m sure Ruri is still living on within her!
Yuya: I’ll definitely save Yuzu, and Ruri as well!
JACK: DON’T GET SO COCKY!
Yuya: Huh?
JACK: As cowardly as you are right now, you won’t be able to save a single person!
Narrator: Action Duel was born from the realization of Solid Vision with mass. This kind of Duel is one where the Field, monsters, and Duelists become one, And send the audience into a storm of excitement.
(Opening Sequence)
Yusho: Who is he?
Reiji: Jack Atlas. A fierce battle unfolded between him and Yuya in the Synchro Dimension. He’s also an ally who fought alongside us during the battle against Zarc.
Yusho: I see. So this is part of your plan as well.
Sora: Yuya is being cowardly? Why would he be?
Captain Falcon: I knew something was off. Back then, he had two Level-4 monsters, But why didn’t he summon Dark Rebellion?
JACK: That is because you are afraid of the dragons! Your deck contains the Four Dragons, which served as materials for Supreme Dragon King Zarc.
JACK: You are afraid that they will fuse once again when you summon them! That’s why you didn’t summon all the dragons onto the Field!
Yuya: That’s…
JACK: No matter how ferocious your monsters are, If you cannot command them as you wish, You have no right to be a Duelist!
Yuya: But this is for Reira’s sake! If I assemble the dragons, Zarc, who was sealed inside Reira, will awaken… And Reira will become a demon!
Yuya: So, I’ll have to find another way. I must not use the dragons, And conduct my entertainment as best as I can, So that I can make Reira smile! (Egao Count: 284+1=285)
JACK: If you want to accomplish something, You must not falter! If you truly wish to save Reira, Fight me! Use all four dragons, and go all out!
Yuya: Against Jack!?  But…
Reiji: I have no objection.
Yuya: Reiji!
Reiji: I want to bring back Reira’s smile with your Entertainment Dueling. (Egao Count: 285+1=286) Sealing Zarc inside her has caused her to lose her smile, (Egao Count: 286+1=287) But if she can smile again, (Egao Count: 287+1=288) That means that Zarc’s wicked soul will be purified.
Reiji: Unfortunately, your battles against Dennis and Kurosaki couldn’t make Reira smile again (Egao Count: 288+1=289)
Reiji: However, there is no turning back now. You must eradicate the threat of Zarc once and for all with your Dueling! I’ll do whatever I can in order to achieve that as well. I’ve prepared a special stage for you and Jack. A Riding Course that runs through all four dimensions!
Reiji: I call it: The Dimension Highway!
Reiji: I want you to put on the best Riding Duel ever for the residents of all the dimensions. And make Reira smile this time! (Egao Count: 289+1=290)
Yuya: But I…
Crow: If you need a D-Wheel, you got one!
Yuya: Crow!
Crow: I brought the D-Wheel you used during the Friendship Cup! And of course, the suit and helmet as well! To be honest, I kinda envy you.
Yuya: Huh?
Crow: You’re able to have a Riding Duel on an awesome course like this…
Crow: Old Man Tokumatsu and the kids are looking forward to it as well. Do your best.
Yuya: Looking forward to it… Then!
Melissa: The scale of this battle is unprecedented! It’s the very first of its kind! And the one who shall provide coverage for this dimension-transcending battle of the century is… ME, who provided live coverage for all the matches in the Friendship Cup! The one and only Melissa Claire!
Melissa: All right, let’s do this! Are you ready!?
Crowd: YEAH!
Yuya: So, Reiji already expected it, and prepared all of this in advance?
Melissa: Action Field, on! Cross Over Accel!
D-Wheel: Duel Mode, on. Autopilot, standby.
Yuya: However, it’s true that I haven’t made Reira smile… (Egao Count: 290+1=291) And I still haven’t been able to save Yuzu and Ruri! I must do it! In my own way, with the Dueling that I believe in, and with everything I’ve got!
JACK: If you truly wish to save Reira, Fight me! Use all four dragons, and go all out!
Melissa: Riding Duel, Acceleration!
DUEL!
JACK: I’ll go first! When there is no monster on my Field, I can Special Summon Red Gargoyle from my hand!
JACK: Then, I summon the Tuner Monster, Red Resonator!
JACK: At this moment, Red Gargoyle’s Monster Effect activates! Red Resonator’s Level will be doubled!
JACK: I’m tuning the Level-4 Red Gargoyle with the Level-4 Red Resonator! The king’s roar shall make the heaven and earth tremble! Let the power of the one and only supreme ruler be carved into your soul! Synchro Summon! Come forth! My savage soul! Red Daemon’s Dragon Scarlight!
Melissa: It’s out already! Jack’s ace monster! He’s not holding back! He’s going full throttle right off the bat!
JACK: I set one card face-down, and end my turn. Now, come at me, Yuya! Bring out your dragons!
Yuya: It’s my turn! Using the Scale-1 Stargazer and the Scale-8 Timegazer, I set the Pendulum Scales! With this, I can simultaneously summon monsters between Level-2 and 7! Pendulum Summon! Come forth! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Entermate Drago Remora! Entermate Odd-Eyes Minotaur!
Melissa: Yuya has two Level-4 monsters on his Field! Naturally, he will… Huh? He’s just going to leave it at that!? The timing was just right, too!
JACK: What are you doing, Yuya!? Xyz Summon right now, and call forth your dragon! Have you already forgotten that I told you to use all four dragons!?
Yuya: I haven’t forgotten! But…
Yuya: I can feel it. Dark Rebellion wants to be summoned. Clear Wing and Starve Venom as well. They want to be summoned… So that Zarc can be awakened… I know it too well! I was Zarc, after all!
Yuya: I can’t allow Reira to turn into Zarc… I can’t let her become a demon! I’ll try to win without summoning the dragons!
Sayaka: Yuya is here!
Dennis: Come on! Show it to the kids! Your best entertainment!
Yuya: At this moment, I activate Drago Remora’s effect! Dragon-Type Monsters on my Field gain 500 ATK! Battle! I attack Red Daemon’s Dragon Scarlight with Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!
Yuya: At this moment, Due to Odd-Eyes Minotaur’s effect, Scarlight will lose 300 ATK!
Yuya: Spiral Strike Burst!
JACK: Trap, activate! Red Crystal! During this turn, Red monsters cannot be destroyed!
Yuya: But you’ll still take damage! Reaction Force! The damage will be doubled!
Yuya: At this moment, Minotaur’s effect ends, And Scarlight’s ATK returns to normal. I end my turn.
Sayaka/Allen: Good luck, Yuya!
JACK: Do you think that this kind of Dueling will satisfy me!?
JACK: It’s my turn! I activate Scarlight’s effect! I can destroy all Special Summoned monsters with ATKs equal to or lower than this card’s ATK, and inflict 500 damage for every destroyed monster to you! Absolute Power Flame!
Yuya: Drago Remora’s effect activates! Dragon-Type monsters on my Field won’t be destroyed by card effects!
JACK: Battle! Scarlight! Destroy that pesky Drago Remora! Fiery Crimson Hell Burning!
Yuya: At this moment, Drago Remora’s effect ends, And Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon’s ATK returns to normal.
JACK: I end my turn here.
Yuya! I’ll give you one more chance! You’d better summon all four dragons next time!
Yuya: I told you! I can’t do it! It’s not just for Reira’s sake. If the dragons are assembled, Something bad might happen to Ray, whom Akaba Leo is trying to save… And Yuzu and Ruri, too… That’s why I can’t do it!
Yuya: It’s my turn! Using the already set Pendulum Scales, I Pendulum Summon! Be revived from the Extra Deck! Entermate Drago Remora! And Entermate Odd-Eyes Minotaur!
Reiji: Yuya!
(ZETSUBOU commercial. Brb)
Melissa: Jack persistently demands Yuya to summon the four dragons! Now then, Yuya. What will you do?
Yuya: Due to Drago Remora’s effect, Dragon-Type Monsters on my Field gain 500 ATK!
Yuya: Battle! I attack Red Daemon’s Dragon Scarlight with Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!
Yuya: At this moment, Due to Odd-Eyes Minotaur’s effect, Scarlight will lose 300 ATK! Spiral Strike Burst!
JACK: The same trick won’t work twice! Action Magic, Evasion! The attack will be negated!
Yuya: I won’t allow that! I activate Stargazer Magician’s Pendulum Effect! It negates the activation of a Magic Card, And sets it on my opponent’s Field.
JACK: How naïve! When a Magic Card is set on the Field, I can Special Summon Red Giant from my hand! And due to Red Giant’s effect, The Battle Phase will be skipped!
Yuya: I end my turn.
GONGENZAKA:  Stargazer Magician’s Pendulum Effect was able to negate the Action Magic that Jack activated, but…
SAWATARI-SAN:  He already saw it coming, and summoned a new monster. As expected from Jack.
Tatsuya: But if he brings out Dark Rebellion…
Futoshi: I want him to bring those dragons out and give me the shivers!
Ayu: No! Do you know what will happen to Reira-chan!?
Shuzo: It’s not just Reira… Yuzu as well… If Yuya assembles the four dragons, He might not be able to save Yuzu. I think…But is it really the case?
Yoko: Just like usual…
Shuzo: Yoko-san?
Yoko: Don’t be scared, Yuya! If you’re a Duelist, it shouldn’t matter whether they’re dragons or not! Just put a tight leash on ‘em and show ‘em who’s the boss!
Yoko: Ah! Looks like I went overboard again! Gosh! Stop embarrassing yourself, Yoko!
Shuzo: Shooting Star Yoko…
JACK: I’m disappointed, Yuya! If you’re not going to summon the four dragons, Then there’s no point in fighting you! I shall strike you down in this turn! I activate the Magic Card, Red Reborn, And Special Summon Red Gargoyle from the Graveyard!
JACK: Then, I summon the Tuner Monster, Double Resonator! Then, through Double Resonator’s effect, I can treat Red Giant as a Tuner Monster during this turn! I’m double tuning using the Level-4 Red Gargoyle, along with the Level-5 Red Giant and the Level-1 Double Resonator! Can you feel it? Can you feel the vigor of my life!? The king and the devil shall now merge together! Feel the soul of the Crimson Dragon, and let out a war cry that shakes all creation! Synchro Summon! Come forth! Red Daemon’s Dragon Tyrant!
JACK: Battle! I attack Drago Remora with Tyrant! Infernal Crimson Hell Tide!
Birds: Yuya!
Yuya: Since Drago Remora is destroyed, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon’s ATK will return to normal.
JACK: Next up is Minotaur! Go! Battle! Scarlight!
Melissa: The gap between Scarlight and Minotaur’s ATKs is 1800! Yuya’s remaining Life is 1400! If this attack goes through…
Captain Falcon: Yuya will lose…
JACK: Fiery Crimson Hell Burning!
Yuto: You’re fine with losing like that?
Yuya: That voice is… Yuto!
Yuri: I can’t say I like that. Neither is my Starve Venom.
Yugo: Same goes for my Clear Wing.
Yuto: My Dark Rebellion as well.
Yuto-go-ri: That’s what they’re all thinking, for sure.
Yuya: Yugo and Yuri are here, too!
Yuri: Why can’t you understand the dragons’ feelings?
Yugo: Why are you ignoring them?
Yuto: Listen to their voices, Yuya!
Yuto-go-ri: All of us… Should be able to do that.
Yuya: By negating a monster’s battle destruction and damage, I can Special Summon Entermate Odd-Eyes Dissolver!
Yuya: Odd-Eyes Dissolver can negate the effect of one monster! Odd-Eyes Dissolver will negate Red Daemon’s Dragon Tyrant!
JACK: You’ve made a foolish choice, Yuya! Scarlight can destroy all Special Summoned monsters with ATKs equal to or lower than its ATK, and inflict 500 damage for every destroyed monster! Did you forget that!?
JACK: You’ll receive 1500 damage! It’s over for you!
Yuya: Odd-Eyes Dissolver cannot be destroyed on the turn it is Special Summoned!
JACK: Hmph! You escaped by the skin of your teeth… I set one card face-down, and end my turn!
Yuya: Yuto. Yugo. Yuri. That’s right… We were originally one person… Even if evil has been purged from our heart… I, who was one of the four fragments… I am still Zarc! And Zarc can communicate with monsters!
Yuya: It’s my turn! Using the already set Pendulum Scales, I Pendulum Summon! Be revived from the Extra Deck! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Entermate Drago Remora! Entermate Odd-Eyes Minotaur!
JACK: You still don’t get it, Yuya!?
Yuya: NO! I get it! You’re telling me not to be a master who’ll get double-crossed by his monsters due to negligence, right?
JACK: Exactly. Show it to me! Show me your power, as the master who can command four ferocious dragons as you desire!
Yuya: I’ll show you, Jack! Our power!
Yuya: Sorry for making you wait, Yuto! Let’s start with you! I’ll overlay the Level-4 Entermate Drago Remora and Entermate Odd-Eyes Minotaur! Raise your fangs of rebellion formed from the pitch-black darkness, and fight against the foolish oppression! Descend now! Xyz Summon! Come forth! Rank-4! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!
Allen: It’s here!
Sayaka: Yuto’s dragon!
Dennis: All right! Good job, Yuya!
Himika: Reira!
Reiji: The wicked spirit is reacting… As I thought, Zarc’s soul will react to the dragons…
Yuya: From my hand, I summon the Tuner Monster, Entermate Odd-Eyes Synchron!
Yuya: Next up is Yugo! Entermate Odd-Eyes Synchron’s effect! I can use this card and another card in the Pendulum Zone as materials to Synchro Summon! I’m tuning the Level-5 Stargazer Magician with the Level-2 Odd-Eyes Synchron!  Spread your beautiful and majestic wings! Strike down our enemies at light speed! Synchro Summon! Come forth! Level-7! Clear Wing Synchro Dragon!
Yuya: Lastly, Yuri! Using Odd-Eyes Dissolver’s effect, I can fuse it and the Timegazer Magician in my Pendulum Zone! Dual-colored eyes that illuminate the dark night! Become one with the concept of time itself, And show us a new path! Fusion Summon! Come forth! Starve Venom Fusion Dragon!
Himika: Please! Stop it!
Yusho: We must bear with it. Because the real fun has just begun!
Yuya: Their voices are not angry. They are afraid of Ray. That’s why they want to stop Ray’s revival…
Yuya: Don’t be afraid! You are still strong, even if you’re not combined into the Supreme Dragon King! I’ll prove it!
(Preview for Episode 147)
JACK: Show me, Yuya! The Entertainment you believe in!
Yuya: I won’t let the dragons become the Supreme Dragon King! Their powers shouldn’t be used to hurt people or destroy the world! I will use them to protect everyone’s smile! (Egao Count: 291+1=292)
JACK: Fight with everything you’ve got! Show me the four dragons’ power through battles!
Yuya: Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V: The Unleashed Dragons The fun has just begun! [/spoiler]

Avatar: The Last Airbender Live Action Thoughts!
-First of all, ya'll need to leave those child actors alone, they are babies and they didn't write the show, nor was it their idea to do it. I have seen way too many people body shaming children; leave them alone they all did well!
-I think Gordon makes Aang just as cute and small and powerful as I always saw him as!! He manages to joke around and be fun even when the storyline is a lot darker and more serious.
-I really wish Sokka was able to be more of his goofy and silly self. I understand why he isn't, and his humor is more sarcasm and dark jokes, but I saw glimpses of him in there! His excitement when he was with the Mechanist, engineering and getting to do something other than be in charge. Also when he has any older brother convo with Katara or Aang. I'm hopeful with time he'll be able to loosen up!
-(Speaking of the Mechanist, my boy Danny Pudi was SO GOOD, I love him, him and his little son).
-I wish Aang would practice waterbending with Katara :( those scenes of them practicing together were always some of my favorites in the series. Just beautiful kataang moments. I'm glad they addressed it but I missed those moments.
-I don't understand how you guys can't be having fun watching this, I get so excited waiting for little moments of lore, or when Jet and Katara were fighting in the forest I was sitting in front of the TV like "WHERE'S SMELLERBEE AND LONGSHOT. OH MY GOD NO IT'S PIPSQUEAK!" It's just so much fun! The colors are beautiful, the effects are gorgeous, and the plot and characters are entertaining. Think about the piece as it's own thing and enjoy it!
-Adaptations are just that; adaptations, and things will be changed! I think so far I haven't minded their changes, I understand why they've been made. There are things to criticize, but I think this is pretty well done.
-Zuko is fantastic; I think all the child actors are fairly good but Dallas' pissy attitude and the faces he makes are so so fun! I feel for Zuko and I'm scared of him when he shows up, and he's just as annoying and bratty as ponytail Zuko should be. His physical motions are fantastic!
-TEO WAS SO LITTLE?? Oh my god, like as a kid I thought the cartoon version of him was kinda hot so when they wheeled that tiny baby in I was HORRIFIED.
-Idk why YOU ALL weren't scared of Lizzy Yu's Azula, but her little smile in her intro scene gave me a lil chill. Maybe it's because I was away when the show first came out so I saw post after post about how bad she was, but I just.... Thought she'd be worse?? She did really well! Ya'll better be careful though or Gaten Matarazzo will come for you, that's his girl.
-So far the mushing of plots has made sense to me. Yes, I miss the silly filler episodes and the traveling the Gaang did, but it allows us to sit in a scene longer, and to colorize the world better, when we're in one place and one plot for longer. I think that's important for this type of medium and this amount of episodes. They might be able to justify more next season if this show does well enough.
-I am OBSESSED with Zuko and the 41st division oh my god, what a fantastic and well thought out addition. The reveal, and they're bowing for him when he comes back was DEVASTATING.
-They we're GIVING us Sokka and Katara best sibling moments, I loved all of them. They are so cute, they just mean so much to me.
-I don't feel Appa or Momo as characters like I did in the cartoon. I'm hoping this can change, because rn they surprise me every time they get on screen. I'm like "WHAT- oh it's Momo, he's here." How are we going to feel Appa's loss as much as we did in the cartoon if they continue to like barely be in it.
-Ken Leung SLAYED as Admiral Zhao, I watched him go literally insane as the episodes went on.
-Aang's imposter syndrome and feeling of failure being focused on I will always enjoy, even if I hope he can be silly next season too. His entire character arc this season just made me want to cry.
-Bro the coloring during the the Siege of the North was A M A Z I N G. The way the color faded in and out with fireballs and the monster koi passing nearby, just so pretty. It looked awesome.
-Making Yue a waterbender? The best. Her freezing Sokka in place so he can't stop her? Heartbreaking.
-Iroh and Zuko paddling off looking for bestie Lt. Jee?? Okay.
-They really grew this show up for us adults that watched it in 2005 and focused in on the really painful moments, themes, and details.

MITCHELL, RIENER, AND ATLAS: “TESSERACT” AT BAM NEXT WAVE
Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener dance together in the final configuration of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Their dancing continues to be spectacular. After Merce, they formed a partnership that has created some highly thought provoking and visually arresting works, usually in collaboration with artists in other media – poets, visual designers, composers. Their latest, “Tesseract” in BAM’s Next Wave Festival is a collaboration with master video and filmmaker Charles Atlas, who famously added new perspective to the Cunningham dances he filmed.
Mitchell and Riener’s new work is titled “Tesseract,” a geometry term for the four-dimensional analog of the cube; the tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. And the 3-D film, which opens the two-part evening at BAM Harvey, December 13-16, embodies the spirit of Next Wave in its combination of live performance and state of the art technology.
Part I of the evening is a fully produced, 3-D film that begins with a demonstration of the title – a cube, floating in starry space, which becomes the tesseract as it rotates; it gathers dimension with its lines doubling and forming another cube within itself: tesseract. Then, the cast explores Cori Kresge’s body with their hands. Kresge, David Rafael Botana, Kristen Foote, Mitchell, Riener, and Melissa Toogood wear tennis whites embossed with black rectangles; their eyes are surrounded by squares of black makeup, and their lipstick is blue.
As they cavort in an airy conversation, on a projection screen that fills the proscenium – their legs flying, darting about on tiptoe, bending arms into geometric shapes – Atlas moves the sides of the frame in and out to change the size and horizontal location on the screen of our viewing window. The cast dances among black and white textile panels by Fraser Taylor that hang throughout their dancing space.
Suddenly, the dancers vanish, and a new scene begins with all the dancers in blonde shag wigs, crawling on the ground, but up and down are reversed, so the first hang from the ceiling. Then, as the colors morph and solarize, the floor rotates until the dancers are right side up, then the image multiplies. Another spectacular visual, shot from above, swirls into kaleidoscopic multiples – a human tapestry.
The next scene finds Hiroki Ichinose and Kresge in silver on silver unitards, dancing on a carpet of fog, swapping foreground and background to amplify the three-dimensionality. Their dancing is virtuosic and pure. Long lines of limbs twist and bend in surprising, difficult ways with perfect balance and sureness.
Then, a desert scape with a fanciful, computer generated spaceship/castle in the background has foreground dancers snuggling with geometric shapes – cone, cylinder, sphere, pyramid, etc. – as their partners. Small geometric solids are applied to their golden leotards like growths. Kresge dances with a golden cactus.
In a room whose walls are multicolored, lopsided rectangles and triangles, the cast in brightly colored jumpsuits, gathered and banded to resemble muscles and tendons, cavorts sprightly. Mitchell and Reiner designed the imaginative costumes; Julia Donaldson and Yvette Helin constructed them. The extraterrestrial sound score for the film is by Fennesz.
Mitchell and Riener’s works often include an intimate, ambiguously sensual duet, and here, that recurring motif marks the finale of the film. In this case, Riener with his long mane loosed and Mitchell with a close-cut pate dance head to head in a forest of hanging ropes – a psychedelic jungle. Long, rope tails follow them around when they take space. They rotate their heads and faces, kissing-close, and remain in physical contact for an uncompromisingly, even uncomfortably long time – an intimate moment that’s anything but abstract and causes a couple of conservative audience members to flee.
No press images are available of Part I, the filmed section of the two-part work. But one hopes “Tesseract” will be appearing soon at an indie cinema near you.

The cast of TESSERACT PART II by Rashaun Mitchell, Silas Riener, and Charles Atlas
In Part II, Thomas Arsenault, who performs under the name Mas Ysa, creates the atmospheric music, and Davison Scandrett’s lighting strikes the tricky balance between showing us the dancing behind the scrim and illuminating its projections on it. The cast wears white shorts and bras under translucent tunics; later, they shed the tunics.

This section is done behind a huge scrim that fills the proscenium, replacing the projection screen of Part I. In the cast, the formidable Eleanor Hullihan and Kate Jewett replace the excellent Foote and Toogood, and Ichinose – who’s now dancing in Germany, by the way – is missing. Or perhaps we can say he’s been replaced by the steady-cam operator Ryan Thomas Jenkins, who opens the section by doing a little prance dance, while the camera attached to his waist remains motionless. He dances, camera-free, with the cast in the finale of the piece.

Riener center with the cast of TESSERACT PART II and projected live overhead camera view multiplied and rotated
Here, the live dancers establish the thematic motif by running a square around the stage, entering individually, until the six dancers match the six faces of the cube, and the cube takes form in white lines on the scrim. Atlas in the control booth modulates the live video shooting, as Jenkins mingles with the dancers; close-ups and wide shots appear on the scrim, through which we watch the live action, and shots from a birds-eye camera above the stage alternates with the traveling one. Atlas’s digital wizardry is appropriately restrained here in order not to upstage the movement but to modify and amplify its spatial order. For example, Jenkins and the dancers face the side and the projection of them on the scrim faces front.
While the dancing in the film seems more improvisational, giving Atlas material to play with in editing, the live dance is tightly structured and choreographed, providing Atlas a strong template to work his magic on. Watching, you can alternate between looking at the live dancers and the alternative points of view that Atlas brings to the brilliant artistry of the talented company.

A particularly satisfying moment is Hullihan’s solo in front of the scrim towards the end, when her live-ness becomes palpable; she makes eye contact with the audience and makes the abstraction personal. And finally, the overhead view of the dancers spinning is superimposed over the initial starry sky, and they turn into stars, recalling the opening image of the show and reminding us how far we’ve been transported.

One HUGE positive of live action ATLA is every scene between Aang and Uncle Iroh.

How long did Sokka have to stand there, legs frozen in place, after Yue died before someone found him and freed him? Just stuck there staring at where she disappeared, feeling like he failed her? Knowing that the last thing she did was freeze him there and when he moved that last action would be undone?

If you genuinely believe this ATLA adaptation is worse than the movie, you are delusional. You weren’t in the trenches in the theaters in 2010, SO excited to see a movie about your favorite show with your siblings and your friends. You didn’t leave the theater CRUSHED and with your dad thinking you had terrible taste. YOU WEREN’T THERE WITH THE REST OF US.
