For #WorldBudgieDay, here is the 1st published image of a Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) for its scientific description by George Shaw (as the “Undulated Parrakeet") in The Naturalist's Miscellany of 1804-5.
(Yes, it appears unnaturally elongated, likely due to Shaw working from a skin rather than a living bird.)

QSMP as Birds- Tubbo
ah, qTubbo... he's a Budgie to me!!!
Budgerigars, (Melopsittacus undulatus) aka budgies or parakeets, are the smallest members of the parrot family. They're very social, high-energy, and extremely intelligent birds!
I chose these guys for qTubbo not only because of their energy, intelligence, and sociality but because these little guys are SO often overlooked and underestimated, and neglected because of that. People really underestimate the intelligence of these little guys, and they often don't get the care they deserve. They're also very loving and attached to those they care about. They deserve so much more. They're tiny creatures with BIG brains and even BIGGER personalities!
(i'm very passionate about these little dudes, i've got two and i love em so much they're SO smart.)

Budgie?
Ok lobster, but only for F&J...
The scientific name for Budgerigar, Melopsittacus undulatus. Melopsittacus is Greek for ‘melodious parrot’ and undulatus is Latin for ‘undulated’, referring to their scalloped wing patterns.
Budgies have very fast heart rates with over 300 beats per minute.
A budgie can perceive up to 150 images per second. This is why they have problems with normal household lamps. For them, the lamps are permanently flickering. In fact, this hasn't anything to do with the lamps, but with the electricity from the socket.
Hope you learned something new!
