i don't think shrek 5 having a tiktok joke or referencing memes or whatever is inherently bad (the mirror was already being used for internet/phone/tv jokes in the original movie) but the way they went about it is definitely kind of a red flag to me. like... that's all the sneak peak is in terms of content, besides showing shrek's kid as a teen?? and the memes are sorta treated as like, cringe, or self deprecating humor? idk, i dont think itll be in the final movie and i'll wait til theres an actual trailer, but i dont blame people for raising an eyebrow. Idk, the pop culture was always there, but it was always genuine and it always served a purpose, yknow?

but yeah people calling in for another sonic redesign situation or saying the shrek series is pandering to pop culture "all of a sudden" are being silly.

I really love Augus and Gwyn so much, with all my heart. I'll always love them and have a soft spot for them.

I carried them with me for thousands of hours for a decade (and continue to carry them in new ways), so now I just set them down sometimes on a beloved mental shelf, where they get to be happy together and I get to enjoy that with them.

The reality is that I love them so much I got tired of putting them through a lot of pain, even if they did reach many happy endings. In my mind, now they have their "final" happy ending together, and they get to live in that space forever in my mind.

And while others might wish I was still actively writing them as a couple (and I will be, re: The Prince's Son!), that's just because they haven't carried them close in their hearts and minds every day, for thousands / tens of thousands of hours, for ten years.

Maybe if they do that, they'll realise they want to put them on a beloved shelf in their own mind too one day, and let them be happy.

There's always more characters to put through torment and hurt/comfort after all. :D

And otherwise, I love that people aren't mentally there and keep those stories alive and fresh in their minds, and reinvent Gwyn and Augus in their own minds and get pleasure from imagining them and thinking about them in different situations.

I will always love Augus and Gwyn, that's actually a big reason why I'm not actively writing them as much anymore.

What's something about your character that nobody would guess by looking at them?

That he was one of the bad boys / fuck ups in high school who had a bad reputation and didn't do well in tests/class etc. He frequently wagged/piked classes and seduced (sometimes not very consensually) quite a few of the kids around him. He knew the school principal rather too well, and never for good reasons.
