I saw you mention the movie. Any predictions for that stuff based off of everything we know?
Yeah. SO many. Which ones you wanna hear first? :)
I might end up writing out my thoughts on the whole of Galaktikon II if there's interest/I feel like losing a day to music listening and speculation (no. please. not that. no.) And regardless of all that -- I do intend to show my hand quite a bit in the pages of Dethkomic yet to come...
But: (cut for those of you who don't want to know. Read on for those who do...)
Lyrics like "show love through it all" in The Ocean Galaktik have me hoping for a Natigail engagement or something. I'm probably dreaming here, but I think love will be a central theme, regardless.
Songs like The Agenda, Could This Be the End, and the very title of Some Days Are for Dying suggest Dethklok is going to have to die in some way. I think this is highly probable, considering all the clues we've been given thus far. Right on back to "Go into the water/Live there/Die there." We'll see how/if they survive.
I think Salacia is a demon-possessed man trying to free himself from a curse. Alternately, I think he might just be powerhungry. I hope he's Charles' dad or related to him in some way.
I think Falconback might have something to do with planetary alignment and "forcing" the Metalocalypse so Salacia maintains the upper-hand in some way. Lines like "weaponizing gravity" seem to hint at this.
I still think we have to build a space helicopter.
And that's about all I have for now. Like I said... I could go through the whole album, but it'd be hella spoilery and also hella long.
So for like... the two of you guys who read this far -- just let me know if you wanna know, I guess. :)

something i realized the other day. the moment toki gets his deaddy bear, right before performing SOS. he’s clearly so excited to see it, and he basically never lets go of it for the rest of the movie (save for of course when they’re performing, right when they’re captured, and when it flies out of his hand—though this series of events also implies that at some point Salacia’s men gave toki his deaddy bear right before attempting to KILL them, but i digress).
point is, he clings to that thing. and i think it’s because it’s the first time he’s seen it since before he got kidnapped. based off how he looks at the beginning of the movie, they clearly did that interview almost immediately after saving him, and then everything after that was so fast-paced, from the funeral, to going to deus keep, to Aortic Desecration. to the Metalocalypse.
toki had not seen his deaddy bear since before DSR, and he had barely gotten ANY time to process what had happened to him before the literal fate of the world was put upon his shoulders. fucking no wonder he was so happy to see it, so distraught to see it fly away from him, and kept it so tight to his chest for every moment after it miraculously came back to him.

Y’know I just realize something, I was reminded of one particular role Scott Ian had on the show
Tumblr media
Specifically the participant who was belligerent
Tumblr media
And even though his face is disfigured later, he also just so happens to look like Dethklok’s previous manager
Tumblr media
Although granted now that I have the two pictures side by side you can tell there’s some differences mainly his hair and goatee are a lot longer. And despite my jokes about the two being identical twins/cousins (the latter I use more often due to being funnier even if they’re jokes only my dad would get) the truth is that this show loves to recycle props and even character designs.
My point is though, since presumably Charles’s backstory might be one of the loose ends being wrapped up and Jack Black might’ve been not available either due to money or scheduling conflicts (knowing him it might be more the latter), it might be possible he might be voiced by Scott Ian instead if he were to make an appearance in a flashback or something. Besides multiple characters in Doomstar Requiem were temporarily recasted, so it’s possible.

DICK KNUBBLER MAYE STILL BE ALIVE
Kinda
Alright before I do anything take this with a grain of salt, cause it’s probably a continuity error / can be easily explained away BUT if you all would like to hold onto some hope please just hear me out. And also it offers a question for yall.
Alright! So!
On twitter someone had asked Brendon and Gene about Murmaider III and its placement on Dethalbum IV ( which btw shoutout to Gene’s wife that was brilliant ) and Brendon had mentioned that what sets 3 apart from the other two was that it was more dreamlike, and that it was made AFTER Army of the Doomstar. Now since Brendon and Gene weren’t the ones to make the order on the Album we can’t set a timeline for the songs ( though they are set in Brutal to Dreamlike order once again shoutout to Genes wife you goddess ) we can at least say that some songs were made post Army. In fact we could also make some assumptions about what songs were made DURING army. So I’ll separate that list here.
NOTE : YALL DONT NEED TO READ THIS PART THIS IS JUST ME RUNNING WITH “ some songs were made post AOTD which ones could they be teehee “ JUST KNOW MURMAIDER AND SOS WERE AFTER KUBBLER DIED OK SORRy I’m not deleting that whole thing I like it
Songs with “ * “ are canon, the rest are personal interpretation.
DURING ARMY OF THE DOOMSTAR:
* Aortic Desecration ( the first song of salvation but obviously not )
* SOS ( song of salvation )
Gardener of Vengeance ( Nathan directly references this during the scene where he confides in the band and Knubbler that he doesn’t write songs about hope and he’s just doing what he knows. I believe he wrote and recorded this but felt it wasn’t good enough to be the song of salvation and moved on. HOWEVER the language he used could place this as post AOTD because it sounds more like a thrown out there example kinda like how he figured out SOS in the cave )
Poisoned By Food ( Again I think this is a scrapped song of salvation since besides the actual poisoning of food a lot of the imagery feels like the what the metalocalypse was described like )
BLOODBATH ( guess what another scrapped song of salvation. This one feels like a ‘you don’t scare me I’m going to confidently stop you because if I go down you go down with me’ song. Also it could be Nathan trying to reach out to Magnus since he was one of the people on his list. Also quick note I’m going song by song so I don’t know if I’ll notice if any other songs would reflect the list I just got out of work so I’m not gonna catch it all rn )
Horse of Fire ( this is tricky because lyrics like star still blazing allude to this being written before aortic desecration but also Nathan didn’t have the talk with the whale until the deadline came up in which he had to go with aortic desecration <he wouldn’t have had time to write about the fist or the hand.> But the lyrics don’t have the <we should reach out to the fans> revelation that SOS has. Maybe this was a draft for SOS but I think once Nathan figured out what SOS was meant to be it just came to him naturally. I’m not sure. HOWEVER since the doomstar is referred to as a star that is still blazing and not a portal that’s been destroyed it’s safe to say this is not post AOTD. Either way this is an important song to keep in mind if you look at this speculating )
POST ARMY OF THE DOOMSTAR:
* Murmaider III ( stated by Brendon Small in the interview. He said he feels that the boys would have written this after AOTD and based off of interviews he’s had in the past about his songwriting process it’s hard to not take this as canon so. )
DEADFACE ( I think this is post because while the song plays during the movie only Skwisgaar knew about the possession so the lyrics wouldn’t quite make sense yet. It’s a tricky placement but I can see Skwisgaar playing around with it since he does play the notes during the movie )
Mutilation on a Saturday Night ( this feels so much like a we survived so now we’re gonna party song I can’t see Nathan Skwisgaar or Pickles make an argument for this being a Song of Salvation. Also all the fucked up shit they talk about references what happened during the metalocalypse but it’s spoken in past tense like a ‘hey we fucked shit up but we fixed it so now we’re just gonna keep fucking around haha’)
I am The Beast ( simply cause I don’t see this as something Nathan would write during AOTD but the ‘ I am a beast this is my domain and when I speak you scream my name ‘ could work as a salvation line but it feels too much like a Mutilation Saturday Night ‘I can write whatever I want cause I lived and I’m not gonna hold back’ vibe )
Satellite Bleeding ( this feels like the first song they would have written and recorded after the doomstar died. Kinda like watching the sky clear up after a storm. )
Now despite me rambling on about this I would like to draw attention to what’s canon. Specifically SOS and Murmaider III. These songs came out after Knubbler died. Yet Dethalbum IV credits Knubbler for production.
Drawing your attention to how crediting in the Dethalbum works, each album has a little section for Dethklok to get musical credits and thank whoever and whatever. There’s also production credit and location credit. On ALL of the Dethalbums Knubbler is credited as producer. Cause he’s the producer makes sense yeayeyaeyah. But whenever there’s a change in location or production, there’s additional credits.
ANOTHER NOTE: I DONT HAVE THE KLOK OPERA CD I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE CREDITING SYSTEM LOOKS LIKE ON THERE but if someone happens to be selling that cd outside of eBay please let me know
Let’s look at them.
Tumblr media
Dethalbum I ^
Shit ton of credits right, and on the other page which I didn’t take a picture of and can’t because I’m not home at the moment there’s credit to Snakes N Barrels for “Kill You” with each member listed. Take note that songs that are considered exceptions are credited differently and locations not at Mordhaus are credited.
Tumblr media
I lied I have the other page. For those without the dethalbum cds the actual credits are usually on another page and “Kill You” got mixed in with it
Anyways
Tumblr media
Dethalbum II
Hey Knubbies gets to thank someone this time! Anyways once again Knubbler is credited for production, but also Dethklok. Keep this in mind. Also the fact that different location credited for Murmaider II but it’s recorded at Mordhaus
Tumblr media
Dethalbum III
Knubbler credit AND Abigail credit along with Dethklok AND once again location credit is Mordhaus and another fuckass place. Only thing that’s not really credited is Magnus with The Hammer but idk if he was like Toki and William where they play the songs but don’t really write or if he actually wrote The Hammer. I’m not a HammerHead, I’ve seen people interpret him as both, but at the end of the day idrk.
So what about Dethalbum IV
Tumblr media
Knubbler is credited. At Deus Keep. Only Knubbler. Only at Deus Keep. “But he’s not credited as a Producer” True! If the album was released in universe it would probably be a producer credit. Especially since Brendon and Ulrich have Producer credit on the page prior. Maybe it’s because Knubbler didn’t make it to the final production stage. Or maybe he’s staying hidden undercover..
Remember earlier. He canonically was not around for two of these songs on this album. He could not have recorded OR mixed SOS or Murmaider III. Even if you don’t fully think that Murmaider III was made Post AOTD, SOS was done post Knubbler death. Hell, the song was dedicated to him by William! But there’s no separate credit for SOS.
If we went on the same basis as previous albums SOS would have been credited to that part of Norway where they traveled to that I forgot the name of and I’m not gonna look up but you get the point. Or even Dethklok would have been credited as production. I could also say something about how Murmaider III wasn’t recorded in the Mariana Trench and how the whale isn’t calling to Nathan anymore but that’s for another day. Right now though, it’s just Knubbler. Just Knubbler and Deus Keep.
Which leads to 3 possibilities.
Knubbler Lives: Knubbler survived ( the flashing things on the ground were teleporters ) and Deus Keep is rebuilt. To celebrate their survival they make Dethalbum IV but don’t release it
Knubbler Died: The band recorded the last few songs on the album at the remains of Deus Keep. Knubblers presets aren’t changed so credit remains to him. Once again not releasing it.
It’s not an album: Dethalbum IV doesn’t exist in universe. That’s why there’s no producer credit. That’s why Nathan doesn’t thank the klokateers ( he thanks the army of the doomstar which is just him thanking fans ). Dethklok recording it post AOTD is more to do with how Brendon records dethalbums than in universe writing.
I like to think that this is just an unreleased album in universe since the record label is more than likely destroyed, but it has the possibility of releasing one day if society is rebuilt to what it once was. But it really depends on if you think the album is canon to the universe. Cause there’s no Mordhaus credit on Dethalbum IV and there’s no way for SOS to have been recorded at Deus Keep and blablabla
something fun to think about tho yk?
TLDR: two songs on dethalbum IV were made after Knubbler death yet the credit doesn’t change for him in the dethalbum so there’s a chance that he recorded and mixed those songs cause he is alive and well horray

Who's up for a crackpot Metalocalypse theory?
Brendon Small said in an interview, "there's one song on the record that I think kind of embodies what the future would be. I don't know if it would be as mystical or as crazy, but it would be funny."
I believe the song is Gardener of Vengeance.
The thing that sticks out to me most about the quote is that he thinks the future is "funny," which is saying something in a comedy series. I assume that means it's something that contrasts the show we've seen thus far. Brendon has another quote about Metalocalypse and AOTD where he said, "part of why I really had to finish this is because that to me was the arc from the beginning— selfish to selfless. Alone to together. That’s the big arc in the series." So if we assume the next chapter would continue that arc, it has to be something that continues the theme of growth and togetherness.
Let's think about where the series ended. Dethklok has stopped the apocalypse, but they haven't really saved the world. Metal rained from the sky, a lot of cities were destroyed. Even before that, it's probably it's safe to assume climate change existed in the show, but think of all the ways Dethklok themselves have made it worse: The environmental destruction caused by the liquid recording technology, raising the sea level in Doublebookedclock, destroying a chunk of the rainforest in Dethcarraldo, etc. The world is trashed, and a lot of that is Dethklok's doing.
So then we look at Gardener of Vengeance's lyrics. It's a song about the planet and nature, which is already notable for the "go into the water" band to be writing a song about the land. It describes the "punisher of industry" who is doling out "retribution for the toxic station." The earth is getting revenge on the people who abused it, either literally (some sort of nature spirit hunting people down) or figuratively (the planet no longer supporting human life).
Remember how the last song on Galaktikon II was called Rebuilding a Planet? My theory is that a season 5 or another movie would be about how Dethklok, being the most respected figures in the world, now has to do just that. And it's not metal to try to convince the world to lower their carbon emissions, or plant more trees, or even give up some of the things they think are fun because they realize how harmful they are. But it's what has to happen for the planet to have a future, and Dethklok's finally mature enough to care about the future.
This is even more speculative, but I think that could also be a theme: Living past the point where you thought it would be over. For the characters, that's having survived the Metalocalypse. But the show itself overcame death by getting a movie ten years after a very brutal cancellation. And I think it's a very human emotion a lot of adults deal with. Maybe you have a health condition or struggle with your mental health, and assumed you wouldn't live past a certain age. Or maybe you're just a teenager who can't imagine being 30. But then miraculously, one day you wake up, and it's your 40th birthday. Now what? What do you do with this time you never really thought you'd get?
In any case, I think the future of Dethklok would involve reconciling being both a death metal band and a symbol of hope for the world. It would be about taking responsibility for their past actions, and having to keep showing up and doing the right thing every day, instead of having short-term objectives like in Requiem or AOTD. It's not glamorous, but maybe it's fulfilling to be … Givin' Back? To the environment this time?

knightklok stuff Is it headcanons or an au? I don’t know, but either way I sure as hell wrote about it.
Timeline: 1450’s-1480’s
Main Location: Pre-Sherborne/Sherborne, Sherborne Abbey Cathedral
Content Warnings: Character death, Christendom, religious fundamentalism, mentions of torture, mentions of social and systemic racism, mention of alcoholism.
Note: I subscribe to the implication that Dethklok, or even so the other people foretold in the prophecy, have been subjected to reincarnation for eons. Whether or not reincarnation is a normal aspect for everyone’s life-death cycle in the Metalocalypse universe is unknown to me as of writing this, but here I am making it certain for the pawns of the prophecy. Personally I find that the prophecy cave art in season 4,  the “ancient animal forms” from season 2 and onward, and the lyrics of Blazing Star are evidence for this notion. Every force included in the prophecy are doomed to their fates; despite being placed in deadly situations time and time again, they can make it out totally unscathed until their death. Said deaths may seem sudden or untimely on a surface level, but they are always decided by destiny or the universe (or perhaps The Devil if we lean more into the Satanic narrative). Here we see a version of Dethklok from their long line of reincarnations (that also happen to be ancestral to the present-day members), who had failed to fulfill the prophecy and thus had to die and start over.
If there are severe historical inaccuracies, then my apologies, I am not a buff and I made this for fun. If it helps to ease the pain at all, I am certain if this were to actually happen in the show, it would also be incredibly historically inaccurate.
I am also not Catholic, so some things may be wonky in that context as well.
Noah Eruption
Nationality: English / Roma
Weapon: Morningstar
The surname Eruption evolved to Explosion as the English language advanced.
His looks and demeanor forgave his non-chivalrous attitude, however being a man of few words made the public mistake him for chivalrous. Nonetheless his stature and steadfast fighting ability granted him both knighthood and the role of leader for the Sherborne Guard. Born in Canterbury, Noah traveled to Sherborne for personal independence and to no longer deal with those that knew of his mixed Romani bloodline. His morningstar was his closest companion.
Fled and retired to The Western Isles post-exile. In retirement he turned to cattle farming.
Death: Drowning (reason ruled unknown, speculated to be either suicide or accident)
Aengus “Picil (The Ruthless)” Barrel
Nationality: Irish
Weapon: Dual-Wielded Scottish Dirks
The surname Barrel derives from his English grandfather’s favourite pub.
Picil, freeloader son of a shepherd, lived at his village’s pub. Of course, this habit kind of ruined his life and reputation within his hometown, however he did get some decent knife-tossing skills out of it. The pub eventually changed ownership, and consequently he was banned for being a pest. In some spark of clarity, the young man decided to start off on a clean slate. He packed a bottle for the road and headed for England (I reiterate short-lived clarity was mentioned, not intelligence). As a stumbling Irishman his time living there was incredibly difficult, but upon meeting Noah and Bishop Offgyrdd seemingly by coincidence he was “taken in,” so to speak.
And yes, his classic dirks slightly resemble penises, like God intended.
Fled to Wales post-exile.
Death: Went into the wood at night in a typical drunken stupor and was never seen again.
William “The Barbarian” “The Royal Guard’s Boil” “Barnacle Meat” Murdgruff
Nationality: English-Italian/Ethiopian (see Medieval Ethiopian Discovery of Europe)
Weapon: Battle Axe
William Murdgruff fled from Italian slums as a young adult, in fear of further discrimination and possible death. He hid in a cart of hay bales and went wherever it took him. Sherborne did not treat him much better upon his arrival, even less so than expected, but the Bishop of the village saw his potential. Murdgruff then proved himself to be a merciless fighter, and with the strong persuasion of Bishop Offgyrdd, he was knighted by the Lord and assigned to the small guard sanctioned in that very town. An exchange was brought in return for his knighthood– that he would keep his appearance a secret from the public, as it would damage the church’s reputation. They even commissioned a custom helmet in order for him to fulfill such an order. He did as told, however that did not stop him from becoming the town’s punching bag due to how he held himself (and having the most non-chivalrous of attitudes, obviously).
Fled to Germany post-exile.
Death: Tortured and Executed via Wheel at the beginning of The Werewolf Trials after fleeing to Germany.
Sigfrøðr / Sighfridh Swkigelf
Nationality: Geat
Weapon: Knightly Sword, though prefers Falchion
Irregular for the time and place, Sighfridh was born to closeted Heathen parents. Their Geatland patriotism imprinted onto him, but he found himself drawn to the Christian environment surrounding his family. Sighfridh saw himself not only in Odin, but in both the Lutheran and Catholic depictions of the Lord. In interest of visiting an authentic Roman Catholic cathedral, he decided to journey west. His stay in England was supposed to be temporary, especially after Toki began to accompany him on his journey, but finding good work with the Sherborne Guard (along with acclaim from all the English ladies…) Sighfridh stayed until the group’s exile.
Before England, Sighfridh was an ice harvester.
Returned to Scania post-exile.
Death: Disease of Totally Unknown Origin (it was definitely not syphilis).
Toki Wartúþr
Nationality: Norwegian/Norse
Weapon: Knightly Sword
(To my knowledge the name Toki has existed since like ~7th Century AD, so I find it perfectly sensible that the name Toki would be present multiple times throughout his family tree.)
He was a Sami boy adopted by Christian parents as a babe. Blessed with the spirit of death, his parents eventually blamed him for the unorthodox deaths of crops and farm animals, even if he was not tending to or near the area at the time of death. Their negative superstition surrounding their son grew more, soon blaming him for the rot of their food and the harsher winters. Believing him to embody the antichrist, they intended to kill him, but Toki found this out and escaped before they could execute their plan. He was a homeless wanderer for years, getting by on stolen goods and river water. It was when he ran into the traveling Sighfridh that Toki finally found some sort of path in life. To Sighfridh’s dismay, Toki was enamored with him and his journey, and so tagged along.
Exiled.
Death: Murdered.
Bishop Offgyrdd
Nationality: English/Welsh
Weapon: Holy text, witchcraft, sabre
Under the guidance of his most trusted companion, Sherborne’s Archbishop, Offgyrdd was devoted to the underbelly of the church. He typically kept an eye out for any newcomers during the day, and was a transcriber at night. Before the mysterious and gruesome death of Canterbury’s Archbishop, Offgyrdd was– although emotionally distant– an average abbott. Even though transcribing was work for a lower monk, Offgyrdd happily took on the task for The Church of The Black Klok. The loose lips on the group of knights he brought together was ultimately his, their, downfall. From Sherborne Castle, the royal guard was demanded to put an end to this heresy, but they refused. Because they liked Offgyrdd. He was pretty nice to them after all, you know? Their Lord allowed for word— panic— to get out due to this. Reeves and the rest of the general public ended up taking matters into their own hands. The traitorous royal guard’s executions were debated. The enraged mob was still somehow infatuated with them, despite their association with witches. Out of fear of his own life, the Lord mercifully damned the knights to exile. After the beheading of the Archbishop, the last thing Offgyrdd saw was Noah watching his demise from among the crowd.
Thankfully, the actual Black Klok meeting grounds were never found by authorities.
Death: Executed; burned at stake.

Does the AOTD reveal that the boys aren't gods mess with the Dethkomic storyline at all? I hope it hasn't thrown you too far off! I'm loving this story and I'd hate to see it messed up because of that! 😭
No uhhhh... if anything, it enhanced the direction I was already taking things. XD
Rest assured, Charles was not the only one who became studious in the clues pointing to how the Metalocalypse would go down. I too, did my fair share of listening to the Galaktikon II soundtrack and re-watching relevant episodes (and all of them in general) as I came up with Dethkomic's prophecy plot that, I was pretty sure, would end up tying into the finale. Brendon certainly did give us a lot of hints over the years, and although I admit I got a few things wrong (or they got changed due to production limitations when it came to AotD) -- none of it was really very far off. The puzzle pieces were pretty much right there in front of us, and I personally, didn't feel there were a lot of surprises in the movie when it came to what's been speculated on.
That said, there's a lot more open space in the deep-lore since we got a feature instead of a multi-episode season (definitely not a complaint - I love filling in my own blanks). So I'll have fun messing with a lot of those open ends, too.
One nice thing about Baen-Shee and indeed, the whole point of them being in this story in the first place, is that I get to work with cast members who are a lot more on-the-ball than Dethklok when it comes to this otherworldly shit. In the final updates, my intention was for readers to get behind the eyes of each of my girls as they come to the realization of what their place in the Metalocalypse truly is. I hope it does nicely to cast off feelings that the third installment of Dethkomic is somehow not going to line-up with the movie, because it absolutely will. :)
Thank you for the question! As always, Dethkomic loves you!

Metalocalypse Fandom Support Chart
Tumblr media
This post is meant to be informative and not cause any alarm but if y'all haven't already heard Tumblr is basically going to become a legacy project. And for the dozenth time now since the beginning of its existence, there is speculation that the platform could possibly shut down for good in the (near?) future.
What does legacy project mean? Essentially, Tumblr is cutting back a lot on their staffing due to low revenue, which means little maintenance or support on the site going forward (updates, bug fixes, etc.) until it basically dies out naturally.
Personally, I've had this blog since 2011 and I’ll never delete or abandon it, I’m here and active until the very day this ship sinks. And I've had to do this a couple of times in the past (because tumblr being tumblr) but I’ve exported my entire blog because I can't stand the thought of all of my posts just disappearing forever and also losing contact with all of the cool people I've made connections with on here. I’m no expert at it but if anyone needs help with the exporting process feel free to inbox me.
The Metalocalypse fandom here consists of some really beautiful and special fans and creators and I believe in keeping the fandom and community together. Let's not lose contact with each other!!
Anyway, in the event that this place really does finally croak at some point, I've put together this shitty google doc real quick to hopefully serve as a resource for people in the fandom to find and support each other across different social media platforms.
This form is completely voluntary. You can choose to leave your name or pseudonym, pronouns, region, and/or wherever fellow fans can find you on other parts of the internet. Also, let others know if it’s okay to ever reach out to you for some friendly support during hard times!
I just ask you to be kind and respectful to others.

Since a lot of people have mixed feelings on Season 3 (maybe as much as season 4), it got me thinking about Dethklok's growth and how the main theme for the season is getting what they need, but necessarily what they want.
Skwis wants to find his biological father, he doesn't get that but instead he gets a consistent father figure in Tyrs.
Bill wants residuals but instead he gets some humble pie and Charles does try to make sure Murdertooth records is legit so Bill can fall back on that.
I already have an idea for I can rework Fertilityklok to work for my idea and Toki finds someone he didn't expect and gets what he needs for companionship outside the band with my OCs.
Nathan and Pickles aren't so clear cut for me on how to make their want vs need work tho.
Maybe Pickles WANTS to get clean but what needs are to be clean AND get the wheels turning on going no contact with his family.
I actually like Seaso 3 very much. It's a departure from what we had going with the 15 minute shows, for sure, but I thought a lot of the changes they made were for the better. Were some of the episodes stinkers? Sure. But some of them were also the best.
Anywho, each one of these are excellent assessments, and as always, I like your ideas for your own contributions to the story :D Over on my @dethkomic tutorials, I wrote: A character’s arc is what is going to happen to them versus what they want to happen to them.
Too, I think character arcs tend to be things that we might think we know the full extent of, but until the final conflict, the whole of the context in some of it might go unrealized. So I invite the possibility of additional information being revealed in each of Season 3's (many) character-driven episodes beyond everything you listed.
Dethsiduals: Murderface wants things to be easy, and he doesn't want to put the work in to reap the rewards of things being easy, later. In fact, when he does try that, he fails horribly. Pay attention to the fact that his character is aligned with laziness. This might come up in the finale.
Fatherklok: Skwisgaar wants it all, just like every modern girl!!! A family and a career as a megastar! Of course, when he tries to find that family, he comes to find the parts of him that are a megastar have been left unfulfilled. Pay attention to the fact that his character is aligned with being god-like (or... more than like... maybe, god-is?)
Fertilityklok: Toki too, wants to dabble in normal life and raise a family of his own. This episode doesn't quite fit the run-down here, because despite it being Toki's episode, it just seems like a rehash of Fatherklok in a way (which, in its own right is true to the canon -- stops copies me), and because I'm not working on the show, I can't tell you if anything in it is especially key to Toki's arc. I think you're better off looking at Dethdad for things to pay attention to with Toki, specifically, in regard to the finale.
Rehabklok: Pickles is forced to get clean, and that whole process goes as horribly as expected. In the end, it's shown that he's got as much on the ball, if not more, while drunk and high as he does while sober. Pay attention to the fact that his character is aligned with ... for lack of a better term... just dumb luck?
As I said -- not working on the show, so I can't say for sure, but coming from a writer's perspective, the "gift" of 30-minute episodes in the third season would have been ideal times to really explore some end-game clues with each character. It'll be interesting to see how things turn out..!

Philips grand plan that he needed to "live long enough to see through" was never anything like going home or becoming a witch or anything cool like that- his plan was to kill all witches. He's a witch hunter. What else could a puritan man like that want than the ability to wipe out an entire realm of them. Who cares that those witches are people who care and laugh and are children who put flower crowns on "Abominations"? They probably weren't even called Abominations until he got there. Those coven sigils are just a literal kill switch. The day of unity is really a day of reckoning; it's true purpose a lie just like everything Hunter was told.

I know the now 3 try guys basically play characters and all and have traits like "Eugene is the gay sassy one" or whatever, but it's so, so annoying that most of the things people are speculating about his reactions to Ned ruining his family and their business is literally just people saying "Ooh, he's totally holding back saying petty things!" (Their "what happened video") and "Ooh! He's not on the Try Pod video talking about the situation because he'll spill all the gossip-tea-beans-pettyness!" Even though Keith and Zach said in that very video that he just doesn't like to do podcasts all that much. I think there were only three normal comments about how he may be feeling about it all and those were: That he probably went off on Ned for this shit, That he was pissed and/or using anger to mask sadness in the "what happened" video, and that as a child of divorce he probably knows what Ariel's kids are going to go through because of all this. I don't think I saw people act this way as much or at all about Zach or Keith. It feels kinda like you guys are making him a bit of a caricature of himself with this

Charles and MMA Theory
Okay, I came up with this theory a while ago (and has been sitting in my drafts collecting dust for months until this point) but haven’t really shared it in that many places. Bare in mind this is also a sort of weird fan theory of a fan theory, that being the popular Dadlacia theory (the one where Salacia is Charles’s biological father in case you don’t know) so feel free to take this with a massive grain of salt, as we gather around the Pepe Silvia board to ask this one question that just clicked one day. That being:
What if Charles Offdensen and the Metal Masked Assassin were half brothers?
Now admittedly both characters are wrapped in mystery, so of course there’s gonna be a lot of fan speculation on both of them, albeit the main smoking gun is that we at least learn MMA’s backstory in Doomstar Requiem (in song form):
“Born and left alone Never knew his mother Who was killed during birth but left him a brother”
This verse seems to suggest that MMA and 216’s father wasn’t in the picture, either by neglect or being absent altogether, essentially leaving 216 to raise MMA by himself (which is particularly messed up since they seem to be a bit close in age). Sure in complete fairness in a sung-through musical like this we don’t have time for every single detail, but the specific word choice intrigues me.
And if you know the basic Dadlacia theory y’know where I’m going with this, mainly the infamous scene in the cold open of Fatherklok where Charles is suspiciously wistful about how it feels to lose the strength of a father’s touch and that his father had strong hands. Now am I saying all fatherless characters in the series are Salacia’s children? Not really. Like for example, I’m kind of skeptical of the fan theory that Salacia is Skwisgaar’s father, if not the real dad of everyone in Dethklok. The Skwisgaar one I can kind of buy even if I have some theories that I think are better but the latter I’m not as fond of since it kind of ruins the point of the found family aspect (honestly the only variant of this theory I can see is the ones involving Salacia only being their father in a past life, like the sort of Kronos figure in the pantheon but we’d be here all day if we dwelled into that).
What I’m getting at is that part of it kind of goes into the “but why?” aspect since by all accounts. After all, Salacia is immortal as far as we can tell so on paper he wouldn’t exactly feel the need to sire children. Short version as I go to my now outdated headcanons post, my sort of theory to that is that he has a plan not unlike Ego from Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 that involves fathering as many children as possible that through trial and error would grant him offspring powerful enough to serve his machinations. Human beings to him are pawns after all, why would his own offspring be different?
Although I freely admit a good chunk of my theorizing has been on the thematic level. The lore of Metalocalypse has taken a lot of influence from various mythology and religions, and what better way to tie into the themes of brotherhood throughout the series than good old sibling rivalry which can be found everywhere from Set and Osiris to Kalervo and Untamo to (of course) Cain and Abel, particularly how one brother more or less (except not really) kills the other.
Tumblr media
Although funnily enough, Charles is simultaneously Abel and Seth in this metaphor considering how they didn't even meet each other until after 216's death.

The dichotomy of Rick and Morty and Rick Sanchez in particular fascinates me because I've never seen a show with such a wide gulf between the first season and the current one (season 5 at the time of writing this.) A lot of shows change as they go on: they explore different themes, develop characters and shed flaws from the earlier episodes. But Rick and Morty doesn't just change--it adapts a completely new interpretation.
Season 1 embodies Reddit's cold masculinity while season 5 leans toward Tumblr's hyper-femininity. (I realize that Reddit has attracted a more balanced audience in recent years, but--speaking generally.) When I think of the series, I imagine a slider that starts at the original target audience: nihilistic atheist tech bros. As the show goes on, it slooowly slides toward female and LGBT fans and then accelerates in season 5.
There's no way this was planned from the start, either. The dudebro-iness in season 1 is 100% sincere. No way the writers were thinking "Oh boy, let's create this character who's the embodiment of toxic masculinity with no sense of irony, bumble along with that for a while, then abruptly knock his OG fans on their asses several years later!"
I didn't join the fandom until season 4, but I've seen the old posts from seasons 1-3. From the beginning, we've been drawing Rick in female/androgynous outfits, speculating about his trauma, shipping him with Bird Person, theorizing about his vulnerabilities that he doesn't show on-screen, and portraying him as someone who ultimately loves his family members despite his faults--although some of us (including me) were starting to give up on that one before season 5 aired.
Most of that isn't present in the first three seasons--like Metalocalypse fans who draw Toki in cute dresses (which I love), we were searching for subtext that barely existed or didn't exist at all. Unfortunately, as women and LGBT people, we don't have much of a choice with straight male-oriented media.
Aaaand then season 5 came along and turned Rick's character inside out. Suddenly, most of our interpretations are actually correct. And the show doesn't just introduce new ideas--it retroactively changes the entire series so that Rick the Elon Musk-fanboy avatar never existed. He was full of shit the entire time. Good luck using Rick as your self-insert male power fantasy now.
To cap it all off, we've got Rick confessing his love for Bird Person and dressing up as an anime witch with two-inch heels. That's like if the upcoming Metalocalypse movie has Toki admitting his love for Skwisgaar and running around in a Lolita dress. Which would be awesome, but it ain't gonna happen.
Basically--to me, at least--seasons 1-3 are a masculine interpretation of Rick's character while season 5 is distinctly female. (Season 4 is about midway.)
Anyway, I might be getting ahead of myself because we don't know what's going to happen in the next 5 seasons, but I'm fascinated to see if Rick and Morty continues down this path. Male-oriented shows (Rick and Morty, Superjail!, Metalocalypse) often end up with a female and LGBT fanbase. Most shows don't acknowledge us much, but Rick and Morty is the one show that's actually reaching out to us halfway.
