This year, The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Benefit Gala aka The Met Gala falls this year on Monday, May 1st 2023.
This year, the theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” in honor of the late designer.
Before the Gala, here’s a really good piece on the Who/What/Where/Why/How of it all.
And for a Monday Reblog, here’s Fashion Forward White Wolf, a little The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Bucky/Sarah ficlet from last year when I was challenged to write something about the neon fuchsia monochromatic outfit Sebastian Stan (who, ICYDK, plays Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in the Marvel franchise) wore to the 2022 Met Gala, having been one of 8 celebrities—including Glenn Close—invited to attend and be dressed by award-winning Creative Director of Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
(Fashion Forward White Wolf is also posted at The Ay-Oh-3.)

While working on a 1920s-30s menswear presentation for work, I stumbled into this 1920s (actually ca 1918-1922) version of the distracted boyfriend meme. Use it wildly. Enjoy:

Watch a video about the construction of a new tutu for The Met's cast of Degas's famous sculpture, The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer. The Met's costume conservator Glenn Peterson discusses the history of the sculpture and the decisions made in the conservation of its tutu. The sculpture, usually on view at The Met Fifth Avenue, is currently featured in the exhibition Like Life: Sculpture, Color, and the Body (1300–Now), on view at The Met Breuer through July 22, 2018.

In America: An Anthology of Fashion through Sept. 5, 2022
The Metropolitan Museum has a an American Wing which includes period rooms, so the curators of the Costume Institute got together with those of the American Wing in order to create this show. Because, of course, people wore their clothing of a certain decade in rooms decorated in a certain decade. So, you can see both men’s and women’s clothing in rooms dating from 1805 to 1915. These include stories told with fashion in such places as a Shaker Retiring Room from the 1830s, a parlor from Richmond, Virginia from the 19th century, and a a living room designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, plus more.
You can see a 9 minute video tour online. If you are like me it will only whet your appetite and want to stop the video and take a closer look at some of the clothing.
For more info on see the show, and the video, etc, go here: https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2022/in-america-anthology
