Melbourne now by NGV back in 2023

In 2013, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) launched their “largest and most ambitious project”. this show, Melbourne now, celebrating the latest in art, architecture, design, fashion and dance. And now, ten years later, he’s back. The second version of Melbourne now It will take over all levels of Ian Potter: NGV Australia in 2023. It will highlight the work of more than 200 Victorian artists, designers, studios and films. Expect over 60 world premieres commissioned by NGV – many of them being presented at NGV for the first time. This free exhibition will be on display from March 24 to August 20, 2023. Melbourne now This exhibition will highlight a range of contemporary disciplines across fashion, jewellery, painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, video, virtual reality, performance, photography, printmaking, product design and publishing. Exhibiting artists are shaping the cultural landscape of Melbourne and Victoria. They include Kristian Thompson, Esther Stewart, Atong Atem, Mia Boy, Kate James, Pecha McCain Vilas, Lila Fardo, Nicholas Mangan, Fiona Abiker, Megan Strider, Sean Hogan, Amos Gebhardt and Lisa Reed. “Exhibition 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the inaugural show and provides an unprecedented opportunity to reflect on how Melbourne and Victoria have transformed, changed and grown over the past decade,” said Tony Ellwood AM, Director of NGV. “No other exhibition series reflects Victoria’s life and culture with such depth, nuance and breadth. Highlights include: A room-sized, neon-lit “temple” made by thousands of computer lovers by emerging artist Real Pham, inspired by his Vietnamese heritage and interest in gaming culture. Inflatable walking tires hang in the third-floor foyer, next to Lou Hubbard’s dinosaur-shaped children’s chairs Walk with dinosaurs. The exhibition was illuminated by hand-painted paper lanterns in the shape of fluffy bags by Larrakia / Wardaman / Karajarri Jenna Lee. A 10-meter installation by Lee Darroch, made from driftwood collected in Country in Duta Janha Wuka (Save Mother Earth). swarming, a playground part and a photo booth part by James Lemon. This invites people of all ages to learn about the importance of the life of bees through play. An immersive installation of Giulia Cicaroni’s detailed paintings within Impressionist galleries. The exhibition will also include displays that provide an in-depth look at specific topics, media and technology innovations. The wall design It will return with a full-scale installation, a celebration of the consumer products designed in Melbourne over the past decade. Representing 23 design studios in Melbourne, the products will include guitars, ladders, cushions and more. Fashion now It will highlight the work of 18 local designers, ranging from haute couture to streetwear. This display will highlight the reflection of fashion and its incorporation into the identity of the city. slippery pictures It uses the work of 12 artists to reveal the loose and slippery sides of photography. View a range of photographs that have been cut, assembled, drawn, punctured and displayed in unconventional ways. With over 200 ambitious projects on display, there is plenty to discover. Stefano Senardi a Diano Marina l’8 agosto a Un mare di pagine

Stefano Senardi sarà il protagonista del terzo e ultimo appuntamento stagionale della rassegna “Un mare di pagine” a Diano Marina. Giovedì 8 agosto, la manifestazione promossa dall’Assessorato alla Cultura per offrire a residenti e turisti un “tuffo nel divertimento letterario” proporrà alle 21 in piazza Martiri della Libertà, davanti al palazzo comunale, l’incontro (a ingresso libero) con il celebre dirigente discografico imperiese, che negli anni ’80 e ’90 ha lavorato ai vertici di CGD, WEA e Polygram, ottenendo grandi successi.

Successi raccontati nel libro autobiografico “La musica è un lampo”, scritto per Fandango Editore, che Senardi presenterà a “Un mare di pagine” insieme al giornalista Marco Vallarino. Il volume, riccamente illustrato da foto d’epoca e già ristampato due volte in pochi mesi, offre una vasta aneddotica legata agli incontri e le collaborazioni di Senardi, oggi apprezzato consulente e organizzatore di eventi, con George Harrison, Madonna, Paul Simon, Robbie Robertson, Lou Reed, De André, Jovanotti, Battiato. Tutte stelle della musica con le quali Senardi ha scritto pagine indelebili della canzone italiana e straniera. Pagine che ora fanno parte anche del suo libro, nato per caso, in India.

«Ero in vacanza» ricorda Senardi «e col cellulare avevo scritto una specie di recensione su Facebook. Chi la lesse mi chiese di scrivere dell’altro. Cominciai a scavare nei ricordi e mi accorsi che c’era tanto da dire.» Poche righe su Facebook sono così diventate 200 pagine, introdotte nel volume da una prefazione di Michele Serra, che celebra l’importanza sociale e politica della musica, definendola “una delle poche rivoluzioni vinte”.

«La musica può dare una forza incredibile» assicura Senardi. «Alcuni dei migliori momenti della mia vita, riportati nel libro, sono legati ai concerti che ho seguito prima come fan, poi come professionista, organizzatore, anche con qualche grattacapo, come quando a Bologna non si riusciva a trovare Lou Reed, che doveva salire sul palco e invece era a giocare a flipper in un bar. Di tanti artisti ricordo la grandezza umana oltre che musicale: persone umili e generose di cui mi emoziona sempre parlare.»

Alla serata di “Un mare di pagine” – manifestazione ideata da Loredana Este, che ancora presta la sua amichevole collaborazione all’organizzazione di ogni evento – sarà possibile acquistare il libro di Senardi grazie al firmacopie promosso al termine dell’incontro dalla libreria Mondadori di Diano Marina.

I gioielli di Gianfranco Ferré in mostra: una lezione di maestria e bellezza

“Nel mio processo di elaborazione creativa, anche quando è applicato all’oggetto-gioiello, si manifesta una grande passione per la ricerca. È nella mia natura partire dalla preziosità autentica, dall’appeal senza tempo insito nel riverbero dei metalli nobili, nei riflessi incantati delle pietre dure, nei bagliori magici del cristallo più puro. È una dichiarazione d’amore, fedele e mai dimenticata, per tutto ciò che è scritto nel DNA del lusso autentico.”

L’ouverture di questo racconto non può che essere affidata alla voce diretta di colui che della nostra moda italiana è il simbolo sempiterno dell’intelletto sopraffino, della maestria esatta mai stanca, della divulgazione spontanea a proposito della scienza sartoriale della bellezza, della perfezione generosa dedicata alla valorizzazione della persona qualunque, purché dotata di buon gusto: Gianfranco Ferré.

Questo, infatti, è a suo modo il racconto di un evento che a sua volta, come fosse un sistema squisito di scatole cinesi, è un meraviglioso racconto che lo vede protagonista: la mostra “Gianfranco Ferré. Sotto un'altra luce: gioielli e ornamenti” che apre le sue porte (dal 12 ottobre 2017 al 19 febbraio 2018) all’interno del monumentale Palazzo Madama di Torino.

Il titolo della mostra è già una sorta d’indizio nascosto tra i bagliori luminosi della suggestione: è l’occasione per incontrare il grande stilista “sotto un’altra luce”, per l’appunto, ovvero lasciandosi accompagnare nell’esplorazione di quel lato più sentimentale, intriso di emozioni allacciate alle intenzioni tecniche, che legava Gianfranco Ferré alla creazione dei gioielli.

Un vero legame di vita, professionale e intensamente personale, che fu anche un primo amore, nel senso letterale della parola: dopo la Laurea in Architettura conseguita nel 1969 al Politecnico di Milano, Gianfranco Ferré ottiene, infatti, un primissimo successo come creatore di bijoux ed accessori. L’occasione in cui scoccò quella scintilla mai sopita dell’innamoramento di Ferré per il gioiello: che tra le sue mani non fu mai relegato al mero scopo di decoro, ma divenne “un mezzo per la rappresentazione di sé. Come l’abito e forse più dell’abito”.

È ancora la sua voce ad indicarci la via: “... spesso il gioiello è complemento del capo e suo accessorio, qualche volta persino necessario, è un dettaglio d’effetto. In alcuni casi, invece, è proprio la materia-gioiello a inventare e costruire l’abito, diventandone sostanza e anima“.

La mostra “Gianfranco Ferré. Sotto un'altra luce: gioielli e ornamenti”, dunque, mette in scena, in anteprima mondiale, 200 oggetti-gioiello che ripercorrono per intero la vicenda creativa del celebre stilista italiano: sono gli ornamenti preziosi realizzati per sfilate dal 1980 al 2007 come completamento dell’abito, diventandone talmente parte integrante da essere esposti anche insieme ad alcuni capi, la cui sostanza è composta proprio dalla materia-gioiello.

Come un vero “cantastorie” attraverso la sperimentazione appassionata con la materia preziosa in dialogo sorprendente con i materiali meno nobili, e per questo apportatori di fascino, Gianfranco Ferré creava opere d’arte uniche: oggetti visionari e intriganti che meritano una messa in scena altrettanto visionaria, curata dall’architetto Franco Raggi.

L’allestimento della mostra è un’opera d’equilibrismo e contrappasso estetico con la magnifica Sala del Senato di Palazzo Madama: i gioielli sono infatti esposti all’interno di sei contenitori in struttura di ferro, come narra l’architetto Raggi “come gabbie nelle quali imprigionare e difendere queste creature fragili e strane; tutta la struttura dell’allestimento è allora arrugginita, brutalmente esposta alla sua povertà materiale, non volendo competere con la grandiosità dello spazio, tenuto però in penombra, e la ricchezza degli ornamenti. Le sei grandi gabbie sono tutte appoggiate su una pedana tecnica che solleva leggermente la scena temporanea degli oggetti. Anche la pedana è arrugginita. A Gianfranco la ruggine piaceva molto. Non so perché.”

"Becoming An Icon" Podcast Chronicles The Lives Of Iconic Latinx Artists

This new podcast will chart the paths and trails these unique artists have blazed on their way to global fame. The first episode, released on February 22, will spotlight musical artist Bad Bunny. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer. Like all icons, Bad Bunny is well known for his humanitarian activism. Openly critical of the lack of humanitarian aid in the wake of Hurricane Maria, which devastated the island of Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny established the Good Bunny Foundation, which distributes toys to children living in poverty in Puerto Rico.

Becoming An Icon was developed and produced by Sonoro, which is a global entertainment company focused on creating premium, culturally relevant content that starts in audio and comes alive in TV, film, and beyond. Sonoro collaborates with leading and emerging Latinx storytellers – writers, producers, and directors – from over a dozen countries to develop original franchises in English, Spanish, and Spanglish.

Along the way to being a co-founder of Sonoro and an innovator in podcasting, Camila Victoriano has overcome challenges such as being a woman in podcasting where only 29 percent of podcasts are run by women; being Latino in a still white male-dominated culture, and proving that a liberal arts major can develop and operate a successful business.

In a recent interview, Victoriano discussed developing content via Sonoro: "We understood that there was a large gap in the market between the Latinx community around the world (which is growing steadily – we are becoming a "majority-minority" here in the US) and how rarely we see ourselves (or hear ourselves) in the content we consume."

Victoriano observed: "For me, it was obvious that there needed to be a company exclusively focused on empowering Latinx creators to tell stories across genres. That way, the diversity of the community would be reflected in the characters of our shows, and our content could be enjoyed by listeners all over the world."

💍- James knew that he was going to marry you from the very first second he saw you. There was not a single doubt in his mind that you'd be the person he'd spend the rest of his life with. And the longer the two of you dated, the more assured he became, to the point that he couldn't wait anymore.

It was the end of an Order meeting when he found you, pulling you away from a conversation and leading you outside, ignoring your confused mumbles as the two of you stilled outside of the house.

He told you how much he loved, told you that there has not been a moment in you relationship that he wasn't thinking about your future together. He told you that there was no certainty with the war approaching and that he wanted to face that battle with his fiancé at his side or not at all.

You were shocked, in fact despite his certainty in what he wanted, James was shocked as well. He knew you deserved more than a rushed moment on a stranger's front porch- but for all you deserved, all you wanted was the boy in front of you.

James was sure he had heard you wrong, making you repeat your answer at least four times before he laughed, happy tears in his eyes as he spun you around, hands clinging to each other as the life ahead seemed a little less grim.

Ways I avoided binging for an entire month and counting (and lost 14 lbs):

1. Stay calm

Try to do some deep breathing. Inhale and exhale. Staying calm and avoiding panic when the urge to binge comes always helps me maintain a clear head, and remember what my goals are. Stick to them, no matter what.

2. Distraction

There are so many ways to distract yourself from a binge! My favourites are to immediately watch an episode of Supersize vs Superskinny, do deep breathing exercises, do my hobbies like reading, listening to ED music (Eg Paper Bag, Me and Mia, Bleed Like Me etc) and of course, looking at thinspo. Going through tags just helps me stay focused when I feel my control slipping. And I promise, I will not lose control and binge.

3. Affirmations

Surprisingly powerful stuff. The things we say to ourselves, and the things we say out loud hold power, because the universe (or whatever you believe in) is always listening. Using affirmations helps a lot with keeping my head clear and my desires clear. I want skinny. I want to lose weight. So, the affirmations I make are aligned with that, and I repeat them to myself until I regain control from the urge to binge. I repeat each one until I believe it completely.

My favourites are simple: I am skinny. I am in control. I have power over my urges. I am so skinny and thin, my waist is so small. I have the perfect body, so thin and light. I am light, I weigh nothing. I am pure.

4. Not Undereating

This one, is an important one. We all need a good amount of calories to survive, and if you don't want to die anytime soon, you better be feeding your body at least a bare minimum of food. Mixing up my calories have helped tremendously. Some days I low restrict at around 100-200 calories. Perhaps the following days, I'll go up to 500, and sometimes even 800. It's pretty motivating to even allow yourself a day to look forward to for having a small binge or a big meal. I like to use upcoming birthdays and celebrations to look forward to, and low restrict in the weeks leading up to it. Cycling between low restricting and high restricting (800-1100) has helped my body think its receiving food, therefore not complaining and begging me to eat by triggering a binge. What your body thinks is important too, so try to listen to it sometimes and eat that piece of fruit or that slice of pizza (as long as its not a binge trigger). Stop wasting your money on foods that trigger your binges, and take care of your body.

The Year 2052

Astra burst through the front door of the house, almost screaming at the top of her lungs, “IT CAME! IT CAME! Dad, it finally came.” Her dad got up from where he was working on the kitchen table. “From the academy?” “YES! We need to call EZ.”

Astra pulled out her laptop, calling EZ on a video call. He answered within a second. “I was just about to call. Did you get yours?” She held the big envelope in view. Felipe and Marisol were standing right beside their son, waiting for him to open up the envelope. “Let’s open them up and then read it at the same time,” EZ said. She could see the terrified look on his face; hers must look the same as well. This was the moment of truth, what both had been working towards for years. Tearing it open and pulling the letter out. “Alright, EZ, on three, and then we read it. Ready?” “1, 2, 3.”

Dear Astra Beckett,

The Celestial Academy would like to congratulate you on your place in our space program.

“WE GOT IN!” EZ and Astra exclaimed at the same time. “I’m so proud of you, sweetheart.” Her dad embraced her hard and tight. A single tear was falling off his face. In the background, it could be heard EZ’s parents congratulating and hugging him as well. “What more does it say?” Felipe asked his son. EZ read the rest of the letter.

We would like to welcome you and your family for a tour of our top-class institution, where you will be getting an introduction to our one of a kind program, our teachers and teaching, our revolutionary technology, the dormitories, and so much more.

We can’t wait to make you a part of our family and spend the next five years with you, making you a one-of-a-kind astronaut.

“We did it, Astra.”

“We did it, Ezekiel.”

Packing a few clothes, some books, space-themed posters and decorations, her telescope her dad got her when she was ten years old and a few other things. She didn’t need a lot with her since this was a new chapter of her life, and she was sure she would buy a lot more stuff in the five years they would be there.

The next day

The next day they were early on their way. The drive to the academy wasn’t a long one. It was just 4 hours from Santo Padre. It was a nice little road trip for all. EZ’s brother Angel tagged along as well, who was also a good friend of Astra, so it was good that Felipe had space for all in his seven-seater car.

The Celestial Academy was like a little city, a city full of nerds and the newest technology in the world. Just getting into the area required special permission, and guards were standing at every campus entrance.

“Holy shit,” Astra and EZ said at the same time as they entered the gates with the car. The buildings stood tall and proud, different holograms showcasing the academy’s various aspects, hovering supply trucks moving from building to building with supplies, and so much more. It was so much to take in, and it would take a long time for them to get used to it all. Felipe parked the car at the visitor’s parking garage.

The walk up to the academy’s main building was short but long at the same time, with the nerves running through both of them. Astra could feel her heart almost jumping out of her chest with how fast it was beating. She grabbed EZ’s hand for comfort. “It’s gonna be fine. We can do this,” he comforted her. She knew she would be able to do this with her best friend by her side. “I know. I’m glad I have you by my side EZ.” He smiled at her, showing that he was grateful that she was here with him as well.

When they entered the building, they were welcomed with a big sign that said “Welcome New Recruits” written on it. They followed the rest of the people into the big speaking room where all the other recruits and their families were seated. The lights dimmed down, and the one and only founder of the academy walked out on stage and started speaking but not before getting a big welcome from everyone.

“Welcome recruits. My name is Damien, founder of this institution, and it is my pleasure to welcome you all here. When I started this program some 30 years ago, I didn’t think that it would turn out to be the best and most desirable space program in the entire world. But in the 30 years we have operated, around 200 individuals have become world-class astronauts with various specialties.” The room burst out in applause. “For the 30 of you that have made it into the program, I congratulate you for the hard work and sacrifice that has made it possible for you to have been accepted. But there is no time for celebrations yet. Not all of you will make it.” The room was dead silent now. “Almost 50% of you will buckle under the immense pressure of the program and leave within the first year. That’s when the real competition begins. Just 6 of you will be picked out for space travel after three years here and start the real training while the rest of you will be guaranteed education and a job at this institution. It’s going to be a hard five years, folks. The rest of the people on this campus, and I wish you good luck.” Damien got sent off with applause and hollering from everyone in the room. “Fuck, that was scary,” EZ whispered to Astra. “We can do this, Ezekiel. I know we can.” Now it was her turn to encourage and comfort him.

There was given some information about what was going to happen throughout the day. Free food, games, and a tour of the facilities was on the plan before eventually, all friends and family needed to leave.

Later in the day

After a fun last day with the family, it was time to say goodbye. Astras' dad tried his best not to cry, but he couldn’t help himself. His little girl was all grown up, and now her real journey would begin. “Dad… don’t cry… it's gonna be fine,” Astra hugged her old man as hard as she could. “I’m just so proud of you, my little star. Your mom would be so proud,” he said as he kissed her forehead. “Stop it, now I’m the one that’s crying.” “Just promise me you'll visit… I’ll be all sad and alone in the big house without you.” She nodded her head at him, “I promise I'll visit as much as I can… I promise, dad.” “Pinky promise?” Holding his pinky out for her to interlock with hers, she gladly did so, “I promise.”

“Come here, Ezekiel. My little astronaut,” Marisol hugged and kissed his cheek repeatedly. EZ loved his mom and the affection she would give him, but now it was kind of embarrassing since there were so many people. “Mom… mom.” “I’m sorry, baby. I’m just so proud of you, and I love you so much.” “I love you too, mom.” He gave her a final hug before he moved on to his dad. “Proud of you, son.” “Thanks, pop.” They gave each other a quick hug.

Last but not least, it was Angel’s turn to say his goodbyes. “Proud of you lil bro, you fucking space nerd.” “Shut up, Angel,” EZ said playfully before giving his big brother a big hug. “Don’t cause any trouble now that I’m not there.” Angel held his hands up in defence, “Hey, can’t promise anything.” EZ just shook his head at him.

Saying the last goodbyes to each other, and then they left, leaving Astra and EZ to watch them walk away. When they were out of sight, he turned towards her and grabbed her hand, “come on, let’s get settled into the dormitory.”

Astra walked into her assigned room and was greeted by the girl she was going to live with. She had already set up most of the stuff on her side of the room. The room was huge and spacious, and it even had a private bathroom. “Hi, I’m Mia, nice to meet you,” she reached out her hand, which Astra gladly accepted, “I’m Astra, it’s nice to meet you, Mia.” “I hope you don’t mind that I took the left side of the room.” “Go ahead, no problem.” They talked and got to know each other as they packed out their things and put them in place. Astra liked Mia a lot, they had a lot in common, and she knew that they would be great friends. “I can’t believe we are here; it’s so surreal,” Mia said as they got done packing out and sat on their beds. “I know, right! I’m afraid that I’ll wake up tomorrow, and it was all a dream,” Astra answered.

Before bed, all the recruits meet up with the teachers to get their plan for the next few upcoming weeks and the whole five-year plan as a whole. EZ was already buddies with his roommate, Mateo, and all 4 of them clicked immediately, already forming a good group and friendship of their own.

Later in the evening

Astra was trying her hardest to fall asleep; it was a big day tomorrow, the first official day ever, but her mind was racing like crazy, and she couldn’t get it to quiet down. She decided to get up and go out to the common room to take her mind off it for a while, sitting down by the window that overlooked the futuristic town. After a few minutes, footsteps could be heard, and she turned around to see who it was. Her frown turned into a smile when she saw him coming towards her.

“Couldn’t sleep?” EZ asked as he sat down beside her. She shook her head no, “my mind won’t shut up.” “Yeah, me neither.” They sat in silence for a few moments before EZ spoke up. “In 5 years, we will be up there,” he pointed towards the sky. “You don’t know that Ezekiel… there are 30 of us, and only 6 make it.” “I know we'll make it. We have each other, Astra, and you are the smartest girl I know. Even if I don’t make it, you will.” “You know I will never go if you aren’t going either.” “I know… but I will force you to go. Even if I have to push you in the spaceship myself.” Astra looked down on the floor, getting shy for a moment, “I know you will, Zeke.”

She started biting her nails, a habit she did when she felt nervous, and EZ knew that, he knew everything about her. “Hey, stop that,” EZ took her hand in his, “it's gonna be fine.” “It’s gonna be fine,” she repeated in a whisper.

They sat like that for a little while longer. Just holding each other’s hand and looking up towards the sky, getting prepared for the next five years of their life.
