A new update to the 'fics I'll never actually write,' specifically the 'crossover brain' series

Holograms, a new technology. In the near future, paranormal phenomenon frequently occur. Humans began to refer to them as. . . Hologram Ghosts.

A large man dressed in an orange jumpsuit crashes through a nearby door. "Did somebody say GHOSTS?!"

So to start off with, I'm going to be using Hartman's "eldest fenton sibling," but I'm not using the story he came up with. Instead, I'm having him be an expy for Hokuto from DGG, but as a disappeared older brother instead of a disappeared dad.

While Jack and Maddie were working on the ghost portal, Flynn was doing research into the Hologram Ghost phenomenon, convinced it wasn't the type of ghosts that his parents were looking after. He got warped to the digital world for his troubles, leaving behind a fitbit-like watch digivice for Danny to find.

Danny doesn't tell anyone, even Jazz, about the watch. Everyone was more concerned about the perfectly circular crater in front of Flynn's computer anyway.

So Danny comes home from detention after the Lunch Lady incident, feeling good that he knows what to use his powers for, but still missing his disappeared older brother. When he gets in his room he finds a parcel on his bed with some strange chips inside. He plugs a chip into the watch he found in Flynn's crater.

Suddenly his room is covered in overgrown weeds. A black cat in a delivery outfit points out a white dinosaur in his room and then disappears.

Flynn shows up, but he's a hologram. "Hey Danno! This is Gammamon, and he needs some guidance. Now YOU get to be the big brother!"

Danny: I've never gone from missing someone to wanting to punch their face so quickly.

And as usual for one of my crossover brain write ups, I have a strong start but only ideas or incidents along the way.

Tucker getting power drunk from Desiree's wish granting power happens at the same time as Sam getting her hand stolen.

Danny: Wait, you partnered up with the rabbit? I would have thought that Dracmon guy was more your style.

Sam: He stole my hand, Danny. Besides, rabbits are natural Super-Recyclo Vegetarians.

Angoramon: [is going to be the only voice of maturity, basically like DGG]

So with Danny paired with Gammamon and Sam with Angoramon, that leaves Tucker to be partnered with Jellymon.

Jellymon: a pathetic nerd? Yep, that's my Darling alright.

Tucker: Who are you calling pathetic?

Dash tries to bully Danny, but this is before Danny learns how to use his Digivice -v- to make Gammamon invisible.

Speaking of Dash, either him or Mikey (or maybe Wes?) would be the person who gets Clockmon'd in front of Danny.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Wes getting caught up in Hologram Ghost/ Digimon incidents. Would that make him like the Caught Up Old Man from Appmon, or Kotaro/Aoi & Mika from Ghost Game?

ooooh while im hardly an expert on ryo expies it is something ive enjoyed thinking about.

the way i understand it is that while ryo is the true OG, he inspired kaworu (evangelion) who in turn has a million expies himself. but since kawo is very very different from ryo himself, charas inspired by these will be super different.

i'll list some well known ones + ones i personally think might be inspired too! definitely can't vouch for all of them, tho, bc i haven't engaged with most of this media! also i realise this doesn't answer anyone's question rlly. but oh well neat list maybe. also the charas are very across the spectrum and different from e/o but seem to share some core themes/traits

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

The real meta?  I am completely writing by the seat of my pants.  I have a vague plan like the names of certain arcs and things sketched out, but I rarely know any specifics until I’m actually writing it.   This does lead to certain dropped or neglected plot lines (I keep having to remember there’s villains out there doing stuff, for example), but has lead to keeping things pretty fresh and interesting, as well as pushing other characters to the forefront (Koharu Kocho was not in any original plan).

But that’s part of what I love.  Characters like Mika Mineta turn from one note jokes to fully realized characters.  Izumi Todoroki reveals herself to be asexual and aromantic (the actual original plan was that she would get together with Katsumi).  Toshi Midoriya becoming a slightly less important character works itself into the narrative.

Beyond that?   There’s plenty of references to other anime and cartoons (especially Fullmetal Alchemist.  One of the teacher is a full on Riza Hawkeye expy). That being said, I have had clues that other people have picked up on in regards to a certain legacy...

MACKY’S DEATH WAS ALREADY A GIVEAWAY WITH THE EPISODE TITLE (FUMITAN ADMOSS, ANEW RETURNER... REMEMBER?)

MACKY AND GAELIO ARE OBVIOUS EXPIES TO CHAR AZNABLE AND GARMA ZABI, BUT THE TWIST HERE TO THE CHAR AND GARMA EXPY IS THAT, THE GARMA CLONE LIVED AND GOT TO KILL THE CHAR CLONE. WHEN VIDAR WAS INTRODUCED, I WAS LIKE, “HEY ANOTHER CHAR CLONE (MASKED MAN), BUT THE VOICE SAYS IT’S GAELIO” AND IT WAS AN INTERESTING TWIST TO HAVE GAELIO SURVIVE. WHAT HAPPENED TO GAELIO AND MACKY IN S2 IS LIKE “WHAT IF GARMA SURVIVED?” 

MACKY IS AN ASSHOLE. IT WAS PRETTY HARD TO TELL WHAT MACKY’S ALIGNMENT IS SINCE HE HAS THAT CHAR CLONE BRANDED ON HIM. HE WASN’T A GOOD GUY AND HE WAS NEITHER A BAD GUY. HE’S A FRICKIN GRAY SHADE IN THE SERIES. BUT DAMN THIS EPISODE GOT ME CRYING FOR BOTH HIM AND GAELIO. AND SEVERAL WEEKS BACK, WHEN A FRIEND OF MINE GOT INTO IBO, WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION ABOUT “WHAT IF MACKY TOLD HIS PLANS TO HIS FRIENDS OR RELIED ON HIS FRIENDS?” AND IN EPISODE 49, WE GOT OUR ANSWER AS TO WHY MACKY PREFERRED THE LIFE OF A LONE WOLF.

AND WHAT ELSE MAKES MACKY THE BEST CHAR CLONE? SINCE HE’S A CHAR CLONE, AND HE HAS BETRAYED HIS FRIENDS, WE WERE GIVEN THAT IMPRESSION THAT HE WILL BETRAY TEKKADAN. AND THERE WERE SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE STAFF MADE US THINK THAT HE WAS THE ONE BEHIND ORGA’S ASSASSINATION.

MACKY HAD A BIT OF A CONTRADICTION HERE. BECAUSE IN THEIR FINAL DUEL, MACKY DID SAY THAT HE WILL KILL GAELIO FOR REAL. MACKY REALLY DID SEE GAELIO AS A FRIEND, AND FROM THE WAY HE SAID THAT HE’LL KILL GAELIO FOR REAL, HE MUST HAVE HAD SECOND THOUGHTS ON KILLING GAELIO THAT HE SOMEHOW MANAGED TO NOT KILL GAELIO, OR HE INTENTIONALLY DID NOT KILL GAELIO.

GAELIO IS TOO NICE. HE’S STILL THAT NICE GUY WE LOVED FROM S1. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY WHEN YOU MESS WITH THE NICE GUYS, RIGHT?

THE QUESTION NOW IS, WHAT WILL GAELIO’S DISPOSITION NOW BE? MACKY IS ALREADY OUT OF THE FORMULA. WILL HE STILL SIDE WITH RUSTAL, OR IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE ON HIS MIND? IDK, BUT I NOTICED FROM EPISODE 46 OR 47 THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING OFF ABOUT GAELIO, AND IN EPISODE 49, HE SEEMS TO HAVE HIS OWN THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SITUATION AGAINST TEKKADAN AND GJALLARHORN.

Oh also consulting on that last ask ended up with us discussing how shit would go if all the Ryo expies were forced to live in a house together, so bonus I guess:

-Kaworu is relatively unbothered by the madness but does try to keep things civil where possible. Tells Shinji his siblings are a little wild but generally downplays it because he doesn't know what's normal and Shinji is not prepared when he goes over for the first time

-Mikaela is like "god I can't stand living here you're all insane and I just don't have the patience to deal with the fallout every time" and has to stop Yuu from trying to join Komaeda in building bombs in the kitchen

-Mika's one of the less likely ones to kill someone over interpersonal drama, however physical violence is still very on the table and he probably considers whether or not he has a moral obligation to take out certain others (top of the list being Light)

-Homura is the first to have a psychotic breakdown because dealing with deranged twinks is even worse when you're not a twink yourself

-Anthy starts trying to poison the rest of the household. Homura joins her when she finds out

-Ryo is second to have a psychological breakdown (as soon as the weed runs out)

-the ones who would get REALLY fed up first would be Goro and then Mika and Homura, but Homura reacts first and Mika and Goro stew for a while. Goro definitely tries to kill someone when he snaps though

-[Mikael]: Ryo doesn't really interact with anyone. He owns the house but is a cryptid in it. Sometimes people will spot him ominously leaning and like . Smoking or shoving his face full of candy in the middle of the night. They know he lives in the house because they can like. Hear him blasting music but they can never tell where it's coming from

[Me]: Bro Strider if he wasn't abusive

-eventually they start to form factions. Don't know who sides with who or how long any of these last though

-Dio and Sephiroth just instantly kill each other at the same time. While having sex.

-Light and Goro start sapiosexually courting eachother before Goro realizes what a spoiled brat he is and then gets into a fist fight with him which devolves into repeated attempts to kill each other as non-homoerotically as possible. The more Goro gets to know Light, the more he hates him, and the more he especially hates the ways that they're similar

-Yami Bakura keeps laying traps for everyone home alone style but they constantly fail. Like he does this extensively. They only ever succeed in trapping Komaeda (who everyone assumes just keeps getting into these accidents by himself) and occasionally Teru (who effortlessly escapes from said traps and both genuinely thinks they're normal pranks and enjoys winding Bakura up when he gets out of them. Slaps Bakura on the back and says "that was a good one" each time while Bakura is fuming with rage)

-Joshua is the only one in complete control the whole time. He thinks this shit is hilarious and is constantly egging the others on and trolling them. This is his Heaven, at least until a few of them figure out how to get under his skin intentionally. Livestreams the big fights or schemes online

-N, Clear, and Normal Bakura start a therapy group, but Mikaela and Kaworu are the only ones that show up. N and Mikaela cry on the regular there while Clear and Bakura start playing smash in the background. Kaworu insists he's completely fine but just goes because he thinks group therapy is a good idea

-no one in this fucking house can be trusted to cook besides Clear and, ironically, Mika (the guy who can't actually eat it). Way harder to get Mika to actually cook for them than Clear though
