Anyways, Mila’s familiar is crab. 

My logic is this– since she’s a selkie, she needs a familiar that’s either aquatic ir (ideally) semi-aquatic so they can be by her side in either of her forms. Her familiar needs to be more sociable than Eurydice’s, i think. I just feel this in my bones. So, this little crab can just cling onto her whether she’s swimming or walking. And they could hide in her pockets with all the clutter she picks up :)

Anyway, their name is Clutter (aka Clutterbitch /affectionate). Their likes include long walks on the beach, riding on inanna’s and mila’s back while they are running/swimming very fast, stepping on things you are baking, and bouncing up and down in time to music like a toddler in the sims.

March '23 Refine Review and Update

Mmmh, nice refines. Let's run through them and then discuss some of the new skill from the last banner and upcoming banner.

Celica didn't get warp but getting pre-charged specials and "Special charge +1" improves her nuking ability and pairs well with her new guaranteed desperation and DR reduction to delete foes before getting counter attacked. She can also use AOE attacks to break through high Res foes.

Astram got close to what I expected, but I wasn't expecting +6 and I was hoping for NFU just so you don't need it in the kit. He's get +20 to all stats, that can send him to 60/42/42/27 as visible stats, and 74/56/56/42 in combat stats. Plus, if the foe has lull, he can get +6 to his stats when near his allies.

The Bylths got a great sword, way better than my 6 month old or so refine. They get +8 stats, they get 30% DR, and Null-DR on special trigger. A great weapon to break any meta threats, like F!Edelgard and her upcoming successor Fomoantiis.

Like Bylth, Forsyth's refine is old, made back before "Reduce effects of [Deep Wounds] by 50%" was a thing. So he's now healing 14 HP per hit (28 with two hits) and more effects that protect against high most nukes (that aren't Chrom).

NY!Selkie wasn't an exact same as NY!Lethe. She's getting +8 to all stats, which was what she needed more than just Atk/Res, and she has Enemy Phase Standard for the first +4, since she has Distant Ward. She then gets another -4 on foe when transformed. This was a nice upgrade, but it's unfortunate that most builds are going to ditch Distant Ward for more player phase calvary skills. I don't think a tier 4 version would help Selkie, but for other omni tanks? Hmm.

Finally, it's Mila. I had this complicated buff system for her, but they just when full powercreep and get +4 to all of her allies' stats while providing Dull Atk, in her 7 by 7 box. She than gets +6 when 3 allies are in her box and +4 visible stats for better check with her c slot and her Dragon Wall. Overall, she didn't get anything in her weapon that ideally helps in combat, but her "prevent foe's follow-up" from her C slot does help her stay alive if the foe is not prepared, and she can assist her allies the same why she was before.

Now, it's time for new skills.

Ascended Elincia brings a new B slot for staffs, Dazzling Shift, has the Dazzling Staff effect and the Order style warping, plus -4 Spd on foe. A very nice effect for a unit who is ideally staying out of combat and warping to new locations to heal allies, or wants to apply their staff debuffs. She also has Light's Restraint, which is the staff equivalent to Moonbow (only 25%), mixed with Melancholy staff, which applies [Gaurd] and inflicts Special cooldown count+1. The Melancholy staff resets the count but this is a nice effect none the less. So from this, I can guess that Dazzling Staff 4 variants will have out of combat benefits, while Wrathful Staff 4 is "set to kill". Meanwhile, 2 charge staff exclusive Specials will have Moonbow , and get effects that reduce the performance of foe's during combat. 3 charge staff exclusive Specials will have Luna and get effects that prevent the foe from participate in combat at all, ie lower movement, disable counterattacks, isolation(?). Also, it's only going to be Moonbow/Luna because those are the best specials for units with low Atk. We might see differing variations on these, like a Orders warping Wrathful staff, but since IS starting with these is a good sign they are avoiding what would be broken.

Next, Escape Route 4. I theorycrafted this skill back when discussing Yarne's refine. I imagined Canto was going to be involved but I used [Canto (Ally 2)], so the ally can canto warp to that nearby ally. This just gives [Canto (1)] when <100%. It's not as far of a distance as the other, but it doesn't require allies to be nearby, and it will trigger so long as the foe does any damage, and the unit doesn't heal it back during or after combat. It can even trigger if the unit has Fury or Push to inflict self damage, so if you aren't Bernie or have Bernie on your team, using this can get you ready. In addition, get -3 Atk/Spd on foe, and you can warp to an ally 3 spaces way you have <100%, and warp to any ally. <=60%. So, obviously, a Wings of Mercy 4 will come soon, and if it's anything like this, you will want that on your refresher ASAP.

Unless the new Dance/Sing B slot skill tickles your fancy. Firestorm Dance 3 is here to invigorate your allies. On top of providing your dancer Canto 1, allowing a dancer to retreat or make room for another ally, it gives Atk/Spd+6 and [Desperation] to your dance target. The target now will not be taking any damage from their opponent they initiate on if they beat them with two hits. Imagine the devastation that Brave weapons could do to the enemy team.

So my to do list for this month: TMS#FE Banner refine theorycraft, Support themed tier 4 skill theroycraft, and . . . ether the next banner or another tier 4 skill. Hope you follow for those and more.

Writing Tip

for all my writers who struggle with loose ends and feel awful for it, have scattered ideas instead of coherent plot points, and just want to write down a small but important detail that you don’t want to forget - I do this thing that might help. 

I do this in Google Docs but you can apply it in other programs too - have a separate section/chapter and title it “RAMBLINGS” to keep it separate from the actual writing, then write down all those loose ends, that way you have them at your fingertips when you finally figure out a way to incorporate them properly. 

Personally, most of my ramblings in my WIPs are written in Tumblr shitpost/liveblogging format, as narcissistic as it sounds, because I write them as someone on tumblr reacting to those certain plot points/characters/ideas 

Examples: 

post: Vita and Willy, barely friends, watching the sunset from the hospital terrace after the massacre shift, still reeling from the adrenaline, their PTSD acting up, unconsciously reaching out for each other because they need someone to lean on, not saying a word but completely understanding what the other feels and feeling safe enough with the other to fall asleep: insert *poetic cinema* reaction img

post: nothing will ever give me as much whiplash as the end of the Pilot, where Ofelia casually mentions that she has to go back to the human realm and I was so convinced that it was like a medieval village at the edge of a forest and then BOOM WELCOME BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY and it’s just so funny to me??? Ofelia is just vibing in FantasyTM clothes, wearing a dagger and pouch on her belt, fluent in Fae Speak and Lore, and you mean to tell me that she’s from OUR WORLD? AND THAT SHE GOES BACK WILLINGLY??

7. Post a snippet from a wip.

It was dry, at least. He supposed that made things comfortable enough. A stone floor still didn’t make for a good bed though. He thought he would have been used to the cold by now, but he still felt it far more than he cared to admit to himself. In between his states of dissociative limbo, all he could feel was the painful press of cold stone to his cheek where he lay and the damning weight of metal at his throat and wrists. Every slight movement he made caused his chains clatter against each other, and every time it made him think of that castle and that fucking grand hall he hated so much.

ok time to see where my more well-known and my underappreciated children ranked... I’m actually kinda nervous ;_;

the girl’s side of the voting was a much closer fight for the top spots, as expected.

Veronica beat out Camilla so closely! Wow, people really seemed to jump on it when they saw she had a chance! Good on you, Veronica fans!

Camilla did get more votes than last year overall though!

still crying a little for Marth fans because wow, that hurts, even me who doesn’t even really know Marth... counting his two appearances together, he’d be snugly between Hector and Celica...

even counting split votes for other candidates, I think Hector is the clear winner

I’m pretty sure Eirika lost quite some votes after her (honestly, really random) alt version for the SS banner was revealed DURING the voting.

would’ve been pretty cute to have both Eirika and Ephraim or Alm and Celica in the top 2 but alas

Tharja really fell far, I wonder what happened? Are her fans satured with her Heroes appearances after all? (interestingly this does not seem to apply to Camilla)

interestingly, many Awakening and even Fates characters seem to have dropped down, except for the ever-popular Camilla and Azura... and the Hoshidan princes? I guess that really shows players want more of THEM compared to the many Nohr alts (same with Leif and Myrrh in the intermediate results placing so high, I think people just really wanted them already!)

Reinhardt is 11th. DISGUSTING nothing against Reinhardt but he’s already cancerously widespread and strong do you really want that to be upgraded??

Nino and Lilina picked up in comparison to last year, which makes me very happy (12th vs. 39th and 25th vs. 49th.) as I love both of them

Owain in 26th. PLEASE GIVE US OWAIN ALREADY (and also Brady, even if he is in 346th...  ;; )

Selkie seems to be the most popular beast unit at 21st UNLESS you count together Ranulf’s split votes, which would put him 33rd, between Ninian and Kliff! So I guess he wins this one? Honestly, rightfully so, he’s pretty important and likable AND good, he’d be a great choice for introducing beast units.

Eliwood crawled up 8 ranks to 26th. This pleases me.

Ninian also jumped from 100 to 32, shows how well Heroes worked out for her (unlike for some of the Awakening characters that were part of the starter/fodder units)

Kliff ist still most popular non-lord from SoV at 32nd. My echoes favs are different ones but I’ll take anyone they introduce. I wonder if they’d make him a mage?

Alfonse, Fjorm and Sharena are pretty close in their ranks around 40th , interesting. I expected Anna to be closer to them but I guess... it’s because she’s not strictly a Heroes OC?

When the snow melts from the cliffsides of Torvill Cove, Yuuri heads down to the little beach with his sealskin and spends hours in the waves. 

Viktor on these days is left at the cottage, editing his poetry collection for publication. The release of On My Love is approaching; after the spring comes the sunlit warmth of summer, and with it Yuuri’s first novel will reach the entire world.

But first, the selkie has to satisfy the longing that has burned in his chest during the months when the cove had been half frozen, and he could not swim. 

There’s the sound of footsteps on the patio now, and Viktor looks up to see Yuuri peeking his head in the back door. His hair is sopping wet against his brow; his sealskin is wrapped around his torso, and Viktor’s heart warms at the very sight. 

“Come on, let’s get you warmed up again,” he suggests, bringing Yuuri the towel on the kitchen table and leading him into the bathroom. 

Yuuri soaks in the tub for a while, eyes closed and legs dangling over the side of the tiny porcelain tub. Viktor tries to quash the uneasy pitter-patter of his heart at the sight; it would be a while yet before he can forget the memories of dead-looking brown eyes and clammy limp hands. Right now the selkie before him is happy and rosy, babbling with his hands about all of the fishes he’d seen and all of the other sea creatures he’d talked to during his swim, and Viktor can only smile and let him continue, promising to come along with his diving equipment the next time. 

“There’s a dance in town tonight,” he says when Yuuri is towelling off after the bath. His selkie raises an eyebrow, as if asking Viktor if he’d like to go. Warmth creeps up Viktor’s neck at that, as if he’s nothing more than a blushing schoolboy trying to ask out his crush to a school dance. 

Yuuri nods, a smile dancing across his face, and Viktor almost slumps in relief.

They head out to the boardwalk in the late afternoon, as the sun begins to slip towards the horizon out beyond the waves. The boardwalk is lit against the soft purple twilight; the fairy lights twinkle like stars as Yuuri and Viktor arrive to the sound of music and dancing. 

Yuuri takes his hand, his brown eyes warm and sparkling, and Viktor is lost almost as soon as their fingers meet. Every time they dance feels like the first; every brush of Yuuri’s skin against his makes his heart skip a beat, as if it can’t quite believe that this really is happening to him. That Yuuri is here for good, with no more misunderstandings and secrets between them.

The music is lively, traditional; Yuuri quickly ropes him into a group with several other pairs, including Sara and Mila and Guang-Hong and Leo. They circle around together hand-in-hand, before breaking into lines and passing between each other’s arms to another group. 

The tide of dancers sweeps him from Yuuri for a moment, but he never loses track of where the man is. Even from a distance Yuuri’s eyes seem to seek his out, a promise in his glance. Viktor swings a college student from his arms, smiling at her before they pass beneath more arms and form yet another circle.

He finally reunites with Yuuri as the music reaches a frantic climax, the fiddle joyfully reeling along the melody as Viktor’s arms link with Yuuri’s once more. The selkie’s smile almost threatens to split his face in half, and Viktor’s pretty sure his grin is just as wide. 

By some miracle, they manage to stick together for the rest of the ceilidh. 

Time slows down with each circle; each brush of Yuuri’s hand against his arm. Viktor is a creature of sensation now, blindly stepping along to the tune of these lively Scottish reels with only Yuuri as his anchor. The selkie’s cheeks are flushed prettily in the golden light of the boardwalk; Viktor has a sudden urge to see him in nothing but starlight, too. 

Yuuri swings him in a circle, their arms linked together, their eyes never leaving one another. Viktor had never thought it possible to fall more in love with someone every day, but now it feels as if every morning he wakes up with his heart pounding even harder in his chest for Yuuri. Surely one day it will pound itself right out of his chest and into Yuuri’s hands, and he will die a happy man.

But until then, Viktor lets his arms fall around Yuuri’s body, and holds him close as they continue to dance. 

He has a couple shots of mead by the time the night is over, but only half as much as Yuuri. The selkie is buzzed by the time they’re returning to their cottage, his hands slurring his happiness as he sways into Viktor’s arms. He’s honey-sweet against Viktor’s lips, eyes sparkling like the moonlit ripples out on the waves, and Viktor’s poor heart stutters when Yuuri’s fingers flit under his shirt to skim, warm and teasing, against his skin.

‘Let’s dance some more,’ Yuuri declares when they reach their patio, and Viktor laughs at that, cupping his cheeks.

“Aren’t you tired?” he asks. “All that mead and all that dancing not enough for you?”

Yuuri shakes his head vehemently, slipping his hands around Viktor’s waist and pulling him closer. He nuzzles against Viktor’s neck, pressing kisses against his collar, and Viktor feels warmth seeping, heady and sweet, through his veins. 

Jokingly, he begins to rock in place, taking Yuuri with him. The selkie muffles a quiet giggle against his shoulder, one hand flying to Viktor’s other shoulder while the other grips Viktor’s hand. Viktor inhales the scent of Yuuri’s shampoo, muted by the evening’s activities, and looks up at the stars dancing in the sky above. 

“Come on,” he says quietly. “Let’s take this inside.”

Yuuri is all too eager to comply. Moments later, as the selkie writhes above him, dappled silver by the moonlight filtering in through the window, Viktor thinks that maybe it’s not that surprising that he falls a little more in love with Yuuri every passing day.
