Ramón Colón-López's Ramón Colón-López is a retired United States Air Force general who served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from December 2018 until his retirement in February 2021. He was the first Hispanic American to hold the position. Colón-López was born on May 11, 1969, in Puerto Rico and grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1990 and served as a combat controller, deploying to various locations around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan. He later earned a bachelor's degree in social psychology and a master's degree in leadership from Trident University International. Throughout his career, Colón-López held various leadership positions, including Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 12th Air Force and Air Forces Southern. He also served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Joint Special Operations Command before being appointed as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2018. During his time as the Senior Enlisted Advisor, Colón-López provided counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense on issues affecting enlisted personnel across all branches of the U.S. military. He retired from the Air Force in February 2021 after more than 30 years of service. After 7 months apart, I got to spend 16 wonderful days with my husband getting our life settled in southern CA. Shane left to BMT...

..And it all reminded me of when I went through all of this with Logan. Except, Shane and I have been together for years. We have a strong foundation and have planned this out before diving in.

We understand that in order for this distance to work, we have to communicate how we feel. Something my ex refused to do.

Thankfully, him leaving did not hit me as hard as it did when I went through this the first time. I do miss him, but I know that it will go by fast. And I will be able to go to his graduation and be able to spend time with him and not feel like “just the short term girlfriend”-- I am his wife and I have the RIGHT to be there.

I am so proud of him. He probably got sick of me saying that to him, but its so true. I am trying not to make the same mistakes I did in my past relationship. I want to make Shane happy, and I want to see him succeed. 

He’s my best friend in the entire world. And as long as he is happy, I am too.
