6. Lantern of Hope

(10 months after the death of Mr and Mrs Lee)

In the crisp autumn air of October, people bundled up in warm layers gathered along the banks of the Namgang River in Jinju. The annual Yudeung Festival was in full swing, and the city was aglow with the soft light of thousands of lanterns.

Families and friends strolled hand-in-hand, their faces lit by the gentle glow of the lanterns. Children ran and played, their laughter echoing through the crowd. The air was filled with the sound of traditional Korean music and the smell of delicious street food.

The dark of the night only highlights the lanterns that took on a new life, their colors shimmering and dancing in the fading light. Couples huddled together for warmth, sharing whispered secrets and stolen kisses. 

Under a moonlit sky ablaze with lanterns, Minhyeok wandered ahead of his family with Raon, their chatter mingling with the lively festival atmosphere, echoing through the throng of festivalgoers.

Minhyeok and Raon found themselves engaged in an animated debate. Having already marveled at the ethereal beauty of the land and water lantern exhibitions. It's still a question of where they should go next before going back to their hotel since it is already quite late after the fireworks show.

They suddenly both feel a sudden pull at the back of their collars as two old couples walk past them.

Staring blankly at the older boy when he yelped a little in pain before giving Minhyeok a shocked and amused look and quickly gave Minhyeok's cheeks a tight pinch. The sting makes him let go of his brother's stomach.

"Aw, this audacious Namdongsaeng of mine", his brother grins and eyes full of mirth.

"Argh! Le mer go!", Minhyeok squirms and giggles, his smaller hands batting at his brother's in a futile attempt to break free. Despite his resistance, a mischievous smile spreads across Minhyeok's face as he tries to step on his brother's foot, a playful retaliation that only seems to fuel the older sibling's teasing.

The brothers engage in a playful struggle until their father in a quiet demeanor, emerges from the shadows, his movements as stealthy as a feline's. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he approached his sons from behind, his strong arms enveloping their heads in a gentle but firm headlock.

"How cute of you two, shall I carry you two like how I did when you were young? We wouldn't want to have another brawl here"

They all know what he was talking about. One example, when Minhyeok and his brother were still children there were many times when Minhyeok and his brother would have childish scuffles inside the car when they were on family trips, a few of those tussles lasted for an hour.

Their parents often let them tire themselves out and only step in if get serious. His father would make them do the chores they hated the most together later if that happened.

"No, no need for it Abeoji, please", his brother said calmly with a nervous smile.

"No!", he would make absolutely sure that his old man would have the worst time if he went through with it.

His mom and Raon both giggled at their antics by the side, more so on Raon's part since his mom only smiled in contentment at them before she gracefully spoke up, cutting away any further arguments.

"Well we already applied for the Wish Hanging Lantern aren't we?", this got everyone else attention.

"It would certainly be quite lovely to see our lanterns being displayed there no?", of course, no one would disagree with her, so they took off to the Namgang riverside in Manggyeong-dong where the project took place.

It was certainly quite a surprise to see over a thousand people gather here. Participation in the hanging of the wish lanterns requires a fee of 10,000 won per lantern. His parent already submitted applications for all of them on the festival's website in July. Their lanterns are said to be displayed somewhere in the center of the site.

The streets were lined with wish lanterns hanging overhead, and the night sky seemed to be ablaze with vibrant lanterns, casting an ethereal glow upon the scenery around them. Every lantern had a piece of paper affixed to it, inscribed with the hopes and dreams of those who had hung it. 

They took time to enjoy the scenery around them and hold on to each other to not get lost in the crowd of people. Amidst the cacophony of laughter and chatter, the sound of shutters clicking captured the sheer beauty of the moment. Minhyeok, his gaze drawn to Raon, the girl whose hand he held, posed a tender question.

Whispering across her ear, "What did you write on your wish lantern?"

Raon walked closer to him and waited to think about her answer, before said in a quiet voice, her eyes on her road, "At first I wish for whoever killed my parents to be tortured to death," his grip on her hand got a bit tighter, she doesn't seem to mind and continue"... but later I change it to wishing that we will still be in the same class once we got to middle school"

Minhyeok's heart swelled with joy while Raon tried to hide her blushing face in her fluffy white scarf. The prospect and the image of the shy Raon filled him with a warm anticipation that spread through his every fiber. 

"She's so cute", he thought as he lightly swung their joined hands in joy, giving her a happy grin. She gave his arm a pinch in retaliation for somehow flustering her and asked in her huffy tone.

"Stop giving me that goofy face and tell me what you wrote for yours"

The slight sting couldn't stop the flightiness he felt in his feet, he only tightened his hand around hers and leaned over to whisper in her ear.

I'm gonna talk about whb!Mc/Ra-on but It's just me trying to make them make sense for me. I'm not a doctor. This is everywhere

With the small scrapes of MC's childhood came out.

Mc is extremely dissociative

Mc doesn't feel like they have a real personality and that might be a trauma response

They lost their parents at an extremely young age and would be a complete recluse if it wasn't for minhyeok constantly dragging them out of his room. They are still mourning them to the point that every year they get driven to the cemetery to take care of their graves. They still won't step foot into the family house after the incident basically living with the Kim family. Wouldn't you think they would have a bigger reaction to ppyong telling them he visited the grave?

But no they push on as if it means nothing to them because it was a traumatic experience and they just got themselves thrown into an active warzone in the span of a couple days. maybe the lack of reaction is more of a defense mechanism. They've only known the devils for a little bit at this point, I wouldn't be too interested in being openly vulnerable either.

Dissociation can be triggered by constant disturbing experiences and in one day

They saw their closest friend get killed

Was almost murder by Gabriel

Finding out angels & demonsapparently exist

Satan pops out of nowhere and almost immediately tries to fuck them.

They make a deal with Satan to bring minhyeok back to life

I'm surprised becoming dissociative is all that happened. They also have been experiencing intense flashbacks on multiple occasions not being able to tell if they're real or not. They obviously don't have emotional healthy reactions. All key symptoms of a dissociative disorder

Unhealthy attachment to Minhyeok

Ra-on has stated in both events and in the main story line that minhyeok is extremely important to them.

They are childhood best friends and started living together soon after the death of their parents.

Both Minhyeok and Minseok have told ppyong that mc was constantly bullied and socially ostracized unlike minhyeok who is revealed to be extremely popular amongst others. He has other friends besides Ra-on, he keeps getting hit on by both men and women, and has a lot of active activities.

Minhyeok takes care of ra-on like a mother would while at their lowest point and ra-on hates themselves for it. They have become completely dependent on him for almost everything, they have no one else besides minhyeok and that's a bad relationship to have. Neither can fully understand or see how toxic this way of thinking is for the both of them besides the fact that Ra-on could never believe minhyeok could have a crush on him.

He's the only reason why mc goes to hell and the only reason they are interested in returning to Earth . Even when they're about to die or sleeping with the devils they somehow always go back to thinking about Minhyeok. It's understandable to the extent that he's all they have, the only person still there for them but still unhealthy in the long run.

Sex and stuff

Mc to me feels like someone who's special interest is sex

I have a hard time believing they were ever with anyone before Satan with the backstory PB has provided but they have an extreme knowledge in sexual concepts and devices.

They watched porn, read books about BDSM, and are always open to talk about it, but shows a lot of hesitation in the actual act.

Sex is a very taboo subject in most countries and hell is the complete opposite of that. Sex is not only a popular part of the history, it's also extremely encouraged. Most devils are already horny on-site especially if Ra-on is around (some even openly have boners around them and try to seduce them )

Ra-on is not used to all this positive attention being completely on them maybe even forcing themselves to become even lewder and indulge in kinks they normally would never do to keep this attention on them. That could also be the reason why they never seem to bother when demons call them Solomon because it's a positive relation in most eyes. They are experiencing things they could never pull off on earth with the status they have up there and they are thriving off of it, feeling wanted and needed in a way they've never experienced before.

Thus the conclusion of part one!!! I'm excited to see what the rest of this is going to be...and how it's all going to end. I've seen what others have said about the event so far and it's pretty much a mixed bag. Though I say overall the positive thing I enjoy is that we're really getting some of that spicy stuff in the event more than usual and there's a little more effort with the descriptive writing. However I have seen some express that there's pronoun issues again for male!MC and that's a disappointing.

Either way...I just wanna see how this ends and see what's in store for us with this event finishing out.

Sunny and Minhyeok’s friendship

wanted to post something before I post the valentines collab on the 14th, so I tried exploring my WHB! MC (Sunny) and Minhyeok’s childhood friendship.

Sunny and Minhyeok first met each other at Sunny’s elementary school. Minhyeok’s family just moved from South Korea to the United States.

Sunny was really excited to meet the new kid, especially after finding out he’s Korean (like him). Sunny didn’t realize Minhyeok couldn’t speak English at all. Sunny asked his dad to teach him a few phrases in order to make Minhyeok feel welcome.

After this, Sunny and Minhyeok became close friends, with Minhyeok teaching Sunny Korean and Sunny teaching Minhyeok English.

(Sunny gave him the nickname ‘Minnie’ until he could properly pronounce his full name. However, the nickname stuck for years to the point where Minhyeok gets fearful whenever Sunny doesn’t call him by his nickname :))

Middle school and high school was relatively normal for the two

Freshman year of high school, Minhyeok was the first person Sunny ever came out as bigender

We all agree that next chapter comes out n MC must ask if the kid saw anyone opening the ark of covenant right? That they should be responsible adult and do something about it? Maybe look inside it just to make sure?

I heard a lot of theories about Minhyeok being like a fragment of God bc God wanted to always be near Solomon/Solomons descendants and stuff. Love the theory 100/100 kind of theory, love it.

But what they gonna do with the kid? Does the kid require devil energy? If not is there a substitute devils didn't know/didn't tell MC about? What if the kid is an angel in disguise? What if the kid doesn't understand devils language, or any beside Korean, so now MC needs to be translator for the kid? Sure devils can understand any language, but kid doesn't, so we should help him. I feel like they should go on shopping spree for kids clothing and stuff.

I just imagine a situation where they take the kid in until they figure out what to do and MC picks the kid up and just walks with him on their back.
