RealAgeAU Drabble - Parentalbond Cross

We are back on my BS and selfindulding drabble series, today we are finishing up how all the guys adopted Nightmare!

Last but not least, Cross :D

But more serious. slight content warning. Cross helps Nightmare bath, wash and clean his wounds and injuries. Poor baby can't take care of his own wounds that well and needs assistance from one of his four dads.

Cross isn't feeling good. Nothing is actually wrong with him but he is nervous.

Why is he even watching Nightmare today?!

It isn't that Cross... it isn't that he doesn't like...

Cross just doesn't feel sure about this.

He just doesn't have that instinct with childcare that the others seem to have. He tried! But he can't help but keep seeing Nightmare as an adult, or old adult? Ex adult?

Even when Dust and he spoke about it. How Dust just compared it with a natural change. Cross just... can't see him as a child.

He knows it is bad. Cross tries very hard to treat him as a child and do it right but Nightmare seems to notice Cross' nervous around it.

Which helps because if Ngihtmare needs anything he just asks Dust or Killer or Horror! Which works perfectly for Cross! How bad of a caretaker is he? That even the child notices that Cross can't handle it.

Cross checks the list again, the list beign something that Dust (and Killer) had put together. Cross would feel bad about needing a list but seeing as the last time he had to babysit he skipped a step or two he knows he deserves this.

Cross nods to himself. Breakfast and lunch were both done. Nightmare had his personal reading time. Nightmare had completed the few assignments Dust had put together for him. They had gone outside for fresh air and sunlight.

Now, the point he had been dreading. Bathtime.

Cross just doesn't get why Nightmare can't do it himself. But Cross had tried that last time only to get Dust to be furious at him, at the time it had also surprised and confused both of Killer and Horror much like Cross.

Since then Dust had refused to let Cross watch over Nightmare. A few days later Killer fully accepted his role as babysitter and caretaker. Which meant that Cross just didn't need to solo babysit Nightmare again.

Which had been fine! Perfect even!

But... well... You always have days were it just doen'st go according to plan. Which leaves Cross today to do all the duties.

Cross sighs and takes out the second list. It is a long list of rules for bathtime.

You need to follow all of these steps! And I mean all of them Cross. No skipping.

Cross rolls his eye lights and reads.

Step 1. Use WARM water. And I mean WARM! If you put your hand under the faucet it should be close to burning you.

Cross turns on the faucet and holds his hand under it to measure the warmth as he continues reading.

Step 2. Fill the bath as Nightmare gets ready himself. He doesn't need help undressed unless he specifically asks. And only then! >:( Tiny boss is specific about when he wants help!

Cross nods before snorting at the extra text. Seems like that Killer also got his hands on this list.

Step 3. Use the soap in the pink bottle and put enough in it to get a few bubbles to appear. NO! USE A LOT! MORE BUBBLES! >:3 No. I am serious. Just a bit is enough.

Cross finds the pink bottle in the small basket of bath stuff that Dust had left for him. Cross knows this because there was a note on it saying 'CROSS USE THESE.'. He can't help but ready the bottle and frowns. mild soap for sensitive skin with some antibacterial effects. Cross puts in a little at first and waits. No bubbles so he puts in a little more. a few tiny bubbles appear and Cross puts the bottle back in the basket.

Step 4. Just let the bath fill up until about the midheight. Safety reasons. Yeah we know we don't need air but Nightmare's magic is fragile and if he gets under water and panicks he may not be able to make his magic shape in the way to enable him to handle no air!

Cross hums and keeps an eye on the height fo the water. Turning it off at the right time.

Step 5. Just wait until Nightmare knocks on the door that he is ready. Once he is make sure you stand with your back to the door and bathtub. Nightmare can get in himself and if he needs help he will let you know. <- This.

Cross nods and just waits. He eyes the door and knocks on it, knowing the large master bedroom is behind it. "You okay Nightmare?"

Silence before a huff "I am fine." he sounds slightly out of breath. But Cross doesn't bother to point it out. He sits next to the bathtub and looks through the basket. A pink soap bar and Cross sniffs it. It smells like citrus, the same scent that the other soap had. Mmh. He grabs some of the brushes and feels them. Very soft and hardly any resistence. Weird choise as the harder and stiffer brushes work better with cleanign between bones. Cross spots some of those brushes in the basket as well and organises those as he waits.

A knock on the door "Cross? I am ready... Is the bath okay?"

Cross gets up and takes his list as he stands with his back to the door as ordered "It is ready!" he takes the list out in front of him again as he reads the next step.

Step 6. Whatever you do. Be normal. Please be normal. Don't freak out and remain calm. No sudden movements as you go near and announce your movement and what you do. Try to make some noise as you move! I have notices that that helps!

Cross feels nervous about that but waits. He hears Nightmare shuffle in and the door close behind him. No movement for a while before light steps move towards the water. Some splashes as Nightmare gets into the tub.

More silence before "okay. I am in... I can do this myself you know..." he sounds nervous.

Cross takes a deep breath and reads the text again before he turns, making sure his feet make noise as he moves around on the tiles. A familiar clicking of bones against it. Cross sighs "I know Nightmare. But last time they got annoyed I let you do it yourself and I don't want to risk that." he slowly gets closer.

Nightmare hums as he moves the water around with his hand "Fair enough."

Cross gets to the side and feels himself freeze. His back is a mess. Open wounds nad chips of bones missing. large cracks and bones barely holding together.

Cross gulps and finds his voice "I am going to sit down now, behind you..." fuck. fuck.. This is why Dust was furious. Because these need cleaning. fuck fuck fuck.

Ngihtmare hums that he heard him and keeps playing with the water.

Cross sits on his knees behind Ngihtmare and glances at the list.

Step 7. Once you are behind Nightmare you will start with his ribs. Use the shower body scrub thing for that. I always called it the poof. I am very sure that isn't the name Killer. Well what is the name? .... That is what i thought. Use the shower body scrub and some of the soap bar. Soap it up and move slowly rib by rib. It takes time. As you do this you need to pay close attention to Nightmare. If you reach his limit he will tense up. When this happens you need to pause and give him a moment. Use this time to just clean the scrub and reapply some new soap before continuing. Ha! You sure that isn't a new step? and what call it 7B? no thanks.

Cross glanes around and sees the shower wash thing that they must have meant and were talking about. Cross isn't even sure about the name for those sponge floof things himself. He nods and speaks "I am going to get the scrub ready. You okay? water okay?"

Ngihtmare hums and shrugs. The shrug causes Cross's attention to shift from the back and mess of ribs and the horrific view of the spine to the large bruises and sores all along the clavicle. Who would do this to a child? Why would they hurt a child this badly?! He is just a babybones!

Cross has the shower floof all nice and wet and soapy and moves slowly closer "I am going to start on your ribs now... okay?" A nod is his answer and Cross gets to work. He applies almost no pressure but Nightmare still shivers. Cross moves slowly to clean some of the ribs. He keeps a close eye to make sure nothing gets stuck on the broken and wounded bones.

They are silent as Cross works as Cross is hyperaware of Nightmare and his breathing. it is slow and even. One by one the ribs get cleaned and Cross makes sure to take two breaks to enable Ngihtmare to calm down.

Cross washes out the floof as Nightmare tries to relax, poking bubbles. Cross looks back at his list.

Step 8. Once you managed to finish washing his ribs he will need a moment. Give the scrub to him, soaped up, so he can wash his own legs and pelvis. As he washes this you need to wash his skull and neck with one of the washcloths. There are no wounds there but it is easier if you do it.

No extra comments form Killer this time. Cross does as told and gives Nightmare the shower floof and Nightmare gets to work on cleaning himself without even needing instructions. Clearly already part of the routine.

Cross still gets the right washcloth wet and soaped up as he speaks "I am going to wash your neck and skull in the meantime okay?" a small nod and Cross gets to work. His hands and fingers easily finding the curves and dips as he carefully cleans the babybones. Nightmare actively relaxes as Cross takes care to clean everything.

Cross leans back and grins "There. those are done." he looks at the list.

Step 9. Now the hardest part. the spine. Nightmare knows he needs this but won't like it. But he won't fight you on it. Again, he understands this is needed. So don't even bother to tell him it will be over quickly or not suck. He hates that. For the spine and the many tiny wounds nad the larger cracks you will need to soft soft brushes, you will quickly understand what i mean. It are the softest i could find and we keep them clean and disinfected. Still, one of the two will have the soap as always. the other is to apply disinfectent at the very end. Make sure one of those two stays dry.

Cross puts one of the two soft brushes to the side and grabs the other one. He starts getting it soaped up as the speaks "I am going to start on your spine now." Nightmare immediantly grows tense and hugs himself. floof forgotten in the water. Cross feels terrible "I am sorry. I will do my best to be careful okay? Just slow and steady?"

Ngihtmare hums and nods "okay..."

Cross has the brush ready and sits nearby "Okay. I am going to put one hand on your side to help keep you steady as i do this." Another nod and Cross helps support Nightmare as he nears the spine with the brush. "I am going to start cleaning the wounds now." a very soft brush but Nightmare still shudders and whimpers in pain.

He hates this. How fucking dare they hurt a child like this? To do this and hurt him this badly? And why?! because they are idiots to think he was bad?! That a child was evil??! That a babybones was evil?!

Cross is seething but his hands are steady as he cleans the wounds and deep slashes. No wonder that they need to do this for Nightmare. Ngihtmare is shaking in pain as he cleans the wounds. Nightmare would not have the ability to do this for himself.

Eventually he manages to clean the spine and Cross puts the brush away "there! All done with that!" Nightmare still sits shaking but leans a bit deeper into the water. calming himself.

Cross grabs his list and searches quickly.

Step 10. If you get to this spot you are almost done. We are in the home stretch! Now. Next is to give him a moment to relax. JUst let him sit in the water. In the meantime you can get the scrub soaped up again for the last step.

Step 11. next is the arms and shoulders. And while sensitive they won't hurt too badly in this. Just wash it off with the soaped up scrub once Ngihtmare sits up striaghter again.

Okay. easy enough. Cross starts preparing the floof as he keeps an eye on Nightmare. Nightmare sits back up after a while and mutters "okay... arms next?"

Cross nods as his soul fills wiht pride and... and... he isnt'sure what... instead he ignores it as he speaks "indeed." Nightmare hums but holds one of his arms out, still not looking at Cross. Cross cleans it efficiently but makes sure his touch is gentle. They switch arms and this one gets the same treatment.

Nightmare uses the water in the bath to get the soap off of him and Cross refers back to the list.

Step 11. This one and the next go together. After you got a towel, pick Nightmare out of the tub and just wrap him up. I like to fully burrito him, You know you did it right when he starts to purr.

Step 12. Use a soft towel to get off all the water. Just softly dab- LMAO! DAB! :D okay. My bad. Just softly tap the towel to the areas near the wounds instead of scrubbing it dry. It takes longer but hurts him less.

Cross searches the bathroom and finds some towels that meet his standard of softness. He takes it to Nightmare. Next he carefully picks Ngihtmare out of the tub, Nightmare still isn't looking at him and Cross can spot a small blush on his face. No doubt embarressed. Cross wraps Nightmare in the towel and hugs him close.

Affection. The other thing he had felt was affection and pride. Becuase Nightmare had been such a brave babybones and had been so well behaved. How could he not be proud?

Cross follows the instructions to the letter as he finishes drying Nightmare. He keeps him in the towel and reads the steps explaining how to desinfect the wounds and how to wrap those. pretty basic stuff. He grabs the other soft brush and explains to Nightmare what he is about to do.

It still stings as that is the nature of the desinfectent but Cross finishes up bathtime with wrapping the ribs and wounds all in soft bandages. In the end Cross puts on the hoody and holds their babybones close to him.

Nightmare, still purring softly as he leans against Cross, relaxes further and further and Cross nuzzles the tiny skull "There we go. you did amazing! We will just sit downa dn waits for the others okay?" a glance back at the bathroom but Cross leaves it be for now. He can clean up their tools and stuff when someone else is back to watch Nightmare.

Nightmare hums and snuggles clsoer to him under his chin and Cross starts to purr himself.

Maybe he does know how this whole parent thing works.

I'm sorry I have immense brainrot I NEED to talk about this okay SO let me tell you guys about this petsite I discovered a few weeks ago called 4dopt.com.

For the love of god please try this game out (check out the read more for... more info!)

TLDR; You can draw your own species and it'll be added to the game. Players can obtain that species and recolor them to make customs of them if you so choose. You can draw your own items too which can be used for species obtainment and raising stats.

In 4dopt, you can obtain adopts (or pets) through various means, such as using items, getting them from the shelter (which have been discarded by other players), or through the adventure/exploration system as a random encounter.

The fun part? The adopts and items are player-created. Like, I'm talking entire species and items that can increase an adopt's stats or generate a new adopt entirely from them. They're drawn, created, and controlled by the players. Another thing is that these adopts can be completely customizable. You can recolor them, give it different patterns (if available), change the lineart or shading, but only so long as the creator allows it. That's another thing - there is SO much control the creator has over their creations. It's all up to the creator to design different patterns and layers to the adopt, as well as give permissions as to what a player can and can't customize.

There's over 1,000 adopts to collect (and possibly customize) by the way, and more are coming! (It's been a BLAST watching the Discord and seeing all the future adopt WIPs people have been doing ;w;)

I can't describe in proper words how extensive the customization is. Getting the full scope of what I mean is a little difficult unless you've seen it for yourself, so here's a screenshot of me going through some recoloring!

Aaand because I can't help myself, here's a mini showcase of the adopts I've recolored!

In addition, creators can control the adopt's gender ratio, what items it comes from (if any), which exploration areas it comes from (if any) (as well as their rarities), and more. You want an adopt to be a seasonal-only thing? Go for it and put it in one of the rotating exploration areas or shops! You want to make a specific pattern of an adopt only available by using a certain item? Do it! I'd hunt one down for that!

A creator can make evolutions of their adopt, which can have different requirements, as well as a stats system which can be renamed to be more thematic to an adopt. (For example, I have an adopt whose Health stat is renamed to Size, due to it requiring to get a big size for it to evolve. These stats can also be used as requirements to put certain patterns or anatomical changes or etc to an adopt when customizing it.)

You may be thinking - oh, but being able to create an adopt/item is probably difficult, right? Nope! All you need to do is have your account be level 10, which, with some exploration, takes no time at all. I did it in under an hour! And then submit a small portfolio of your previous work to gain access to an artist panel, linked here (if you're logged in).

4dopt welcomes all artists, whether you're a beginner or you've been drawing for years, so there's no worries on if you're "good enough" or not. (YOU ALWAYS ARE!!!) If you have an idea, just make it, and chances are, us players will eat it up.

Anyways lightning round of more features:

A tagging system where, if you block a tag (like gore or body horror), all adopt species that fall under that tag will not be shown to you.

A weekly contest where you can show off your adopts as well as vote for others' adopts, and at the end of the week, the top votes get some nice rewards!

A breeding system where the offspring will have a combination of the markings/layers of the parents

Collaboration friendly (wanna create an adopt with a friend? fully supported!)

Read funny and weird blurbs that players have submitted (oh yeah you can submit little blurbs too) to exploration.

The game JUST shifted from registration windows to open registration, so I hope more people give this game a try. It's super underrated and deserves more attention!

The others were more accidental *lol*)

In the Mini-Mingo and Grumpy Verse they have 8 though if they do have more kids after Mini-Mingo (and including the adopted ones). That AU might be the one where someone says "enough now" *lol* Maybe it's Sakazuki after he saw Kite babysitting baby Merry and the sheer horror of MORE Monkey children being unleashed into the world blows some fuses in his brain X'D

13 people have shown interest in my WoF arc 1 rewrite so here are my thoughts for an arc 2 rewrite and I split this into two parts because this is already late

Moonwatcher

For Moonwatcher I’m playing with the idea of her being raised by the rainwings? Either she hatched before Secretkeeper could get to her and a rainwing found her or they found her after Secretkeeper left

But since that isn’t a solid idea yet I’m just going with her being raised in the rainforest by her mother

Moonwatcher’s earliest memories will be her alone in the rainforest tucked beneath some plants and watching a caterpillar crawl across her talons while wondering if the large dragon with a kind face would be back

Moon’s childhood will be something she has to grapple with throughout the story and she has to realize her mom wasn’t a good mom

Secretkeeper saved Moon from life on the volcano but at the same time she left a hatchling alone in a rainforest with tons of predators and no guarantee that Moon will still be there when she returns

Moon will either end up with Carnelian or Kinkajou or both depending on how the story goes but she deserves a girlfriend

She also looks EXACTLY like Morrowseer those Secretkeeper genes were fighting a losing battle because that baby is the carbon copy of her dad

She still has her green scales but her eyes are black like her dad’s she has his face, horns, and she is also very big for her age

The dod get war flashbacks when they see Moon for the first time because it’s just a mini Morrowseer

She knows who her dad is because it’s dumb she didn’t know who he was BUT she doesn’t know what happened to him the dod would get quiet when she asked and her mom just said he wasn’t coming back

So imagine this poor girl’s horror when she sees a petrified dragon that is IDENTICAL to her

Anyway onto her book

Her arc still revolves around secrets she keeps it a secret that she has powers it’s a secret what happened to her dad and now there is a secretive voice speaking to her in her head

She is immediately hit by the sound of a dragon speaking DIRECTLY to her when she enters JMA and for the first few days Moon will ignore it

She won’t learn who Darkstalker is until Peril’s book when she connects the dots and realizes this sensitive dragon who suspiciously gets bitter when Moon mentions icewings or his life is the nightmare dragon from icewing and Nightwing childhoods

Now onto Moon and her girls because I love them

Moon is so oblivious to Kinkajou and Carnelian’s feelings but she does show interest in them unlike the original love triangle

She will literally sit there hearing their thoughts of how badly they want to be with her and hear her voice and she’ll think “WOW my best friends are so pretty imagine if we could all live together for the rest of our lives and adopt dragonets!! How crazy would that be?”

She will curl up next to them to sleep and Kinkajou will be giggling and turning every color under the sun

Carnelian will just malfunction

She is a soldier at heart forgive her if she panics at the first sign of love and affection

NOW the actual book

The library explosion happens like usual but Carnelian survives with a missing leg, her horns shattered (which will be a big cause of insecurity because in Skywing society (mostly because of Scarlet) there are strict beauty standards and Carnelian believes she is hideous now), and she is mostly blind (completely blind in one eye and like 70% to 80% blind in the other

In this Moon knows that Sora did it she hears her guilty thoughts the next day but Sora is her friend and she wants to forgive her

It never made sense to me that Moon went from trying to bring a killer to justice in the sixth book to forgiving everything Darkstalker did in the tenth book

So in this Moon will have a few questionable morals she wants to be liked and she wants to protect her friends since she is basically an outcast to her tribe she wants to find a place in the world

And it scares her to think that Sora might hate her if she turns her in and then she gets so deep in the lie of trying to convince everyone it might be someone else that she’s scared everyone else will hate her

And it especially scares her that Carnelian might hate her Moon doesn’t even consider Carnelian when she first lies to protect Sora

She knows Carnelian is hurt and angry and wants revenge but she’s torn between one of her first friends and a dragon who has just started to warm up to her

Moon’s arc will focus around her questionable morals and the dragons around her and her own self image she will be desperate to be accepted into her tribe and be normal and Darkstalker will be the one who integrates her into Nightwing society but in the process he will manipulate her mind the way he did to Clearsight

Winter

Winter won’t hate nightwings as much as he does in the original he still hates them because of Scarlet’s arena but he won’t go out of his way to be nasty

Instead this boy hates SKYWINGS because Scarlet’s troops took his brother so Winter and Carnelian are constantly butting heads

In their minds it’s serious terrifying fights but to everyone else they look like to kids in a slapping fight

Winter grew up with everything planned out for him he even had a betrothed picked out from the moment he was able to say his own name (it’s Lynx)

But Winter gets a pit in his stomach when he thinks about this life he absolutely hates it

Winter will sort of reflect Arctic both are icewing prince’s with their lives planned out for them and they both want a different life

As a kid Winter would dream about being a swashbuckling pirate or a treasure hunter or live some kind of cool adventurous life

He never understood why he always seemed drawn towards the other boys his age rather than his own betrothed

Sure he liked Lynx and she was nice but he kept staring at her and wondering what she would look like if she looked more like the other boys in their classes

So Winter makes it to Jade Mountain a little bitter about his life so far and he sticks by his sister’s side with a scowl on his face

Then he’s roomed with a sandwing who always has a dumb smirk and can never seem to leave Winter alone

And then Winter starts daydreaming about a life in the desert which immediately disgusts him because the desert would be so hot and unbearable

But then again maybe it won’t be since he doesn’t seem to mind when Qibli lazily wraps a wings round his shoulders or leans in close to his face and calls him “prince winter”

Life was finally good for him he was making friends and getting good grades

And then his sister ruins it by attempting to kill the teachers

In this rewrite Icicle will be desperate to protect both of her brothers so she keeps Scarlet a secret from Winter

Her parents groomed her to be queen and she knows that being queen means she has to protect her tribe and her brothers especially

She snaps at Winter and tries to push him away for his own safety and he just doesn’t understand

The book mostly stays the same and the Pyrite/Hailstorm thing will definitely stay the same

I might change the epilogue so it’s from hailstorm’s pov and it might just be his internal war of Pyrite and Hailstorm fighting constantly and how he feels like a shell of his former self

Peril

Peril’s theme song would be Waiting in the Wings Reprise from Tangled the Series

She grew up believing Scarlet loved her and she was taken into her home and loving arms but as she grew up she realized she was groomed to be loyal to Scarlet and believe no one else could love her

Then she meets a mudwing chained up and held prisoner and at first he mopes and won’t talk but when he does she realizes she found someone just like her

Someone who understands how soul crushing it is to let down someone who depends on you

But as she talks to Clay she realizes they are different very different because when Clay messes up his siblings curl up beside him at night and rest their snouts against his shoulder and tell him he did nothing wrong

Peril never felt that love before and she feels jealous she feels gross because she wants what Clay has

Then she shows up to Jade Mountain Academy and Clay greets here with a giant sweet handsome smile

And she meets other dragons she meets Moonwatcher who laughs at her violent thoughts instead of judging her or acting scared and Turtle who is perfectly fine just sitting and being in her company

She feels wanted like people actually enjoy her company

Leaving JMA with Turtle and ending up in sanctuary is the same

So when she meets her dad and is given an enchanted necklace that gets rid of her fire scales she thinks her life is complete and she finally has what Clay got

But she starts noticing things the way her dad stared at her as if judging her when she got excited and shouted

He didn’t smile in laugh like Moon and he didn’t feel fine sitting in silence with her like Turtle and he definitely didn’t greet her with a giant smile and yell her name like she made his entire day better like Clay did

Then she meets Prince Cliff and listens to the little dragonet ramble about his mom and how she loves him and all the things he does and she just cries

Her tears immediately evaporate but she can’t stop she knows she’ll never feel the parental love Cliff gets to feel every day and how is that fair to her? Why doesn’t she get to be loved like that?

Cliff escapes when she’s crying and then the fight between Ruby and Scarlet starts and Peril isn’t allowed to step in and kill Scarlet

But Scarlet realizes that her victims have grown and she doesn’t hold any power over them she can’t control them anymore and she tries to flee but Peril is there standing silent and looking at the ex-Queen with a blank stare daring her to move

Ruby kills Scarlet and Peril leaves during the party with Turtle and when the group rests she is visited by Clay in her dreams using the dream visitor

Her dreams aren’t haunted by Scarlet anymore instead she is sitting on a cliff in the sky kingdom she always liked that particular cliff because it had nothing flammable

Clay is beside her and she tells him she feels guilty because sometimes she would wish she never left Scarlet and she could still live in denial

And Clay wraps a wing around her she can’t hurt him in her dreams and they take full advantage of that

Then Peril confesses her voice is quiet and unsure and she is looking down at the sky kingdom

And all Clay says in response is “aren’t we already dating?”

And Peril just stares at him blankly

So far the rest stays the same but I might change it idk anyway Darkstalker comes back

This was so late so I’m going Turtle, Qibli, Kinkajou, and Carnelian when I have more energy but I’ll also probably do a Darkstalker legends rewrite because I have so many thoughts

During the events of Batman fear state, scarecrow finds a way to get into batman's mind and mess around a little. So, naturally, batman asks ghostmaker to enter his mind and check what's going on, you know, as you do

This happens in Batman (2016) #113, if you wanna read the whole thing you can start at Batman #106 or (if you wanna see Khoa's introduction and first appearance in the comics) Batman #102. I'm telling you this because right here at this moment, there's a wonderful, incredible potential for ghostbat fics and I need someone to tap into that, so bear with me

In the actual issue, things get resolved a little faster, but here we have your prompt: Bruce and Khoa exploring Bruce's mind, walking around through all of his memories, trying to get to the one they need and find out what's wrong with his brain (besides the usual).

So we can see Bruce at multiple points of his life

So, here's the thing about Scarecrow's plan: he creates an evil/monstrous version of Bruce in his memories. It doesn't appear much so it's hard for me to explain what exactly it is and what it's supposed to do, but it's basically:

Ghostmaker just straight up kills it but yk I think there's more potential to this idea, it can be further explored

I, personally, love the idea of this disturbing version of him being able to manifest itself in multiple memory!bruce versions

Team 5Ds reading headcanons

So started thinking about what type of books certain characters would read, and this ended up extending to the rest of the cast. So here are what I've thought of:

Yusei:

Mostly reads nonfiction, such as engineering textbooks and user manuals

Martha's orphanage had a lot of old children's books that she used to teach the kids how to read, but Yusei outgrew them pretty quickly

Was hard to find good textbooks in the Satellite, so growing up, most of them were long out of date. But they helped him learn how to repair scrapped electronics

Often gravitated towards books written by "Dr. Fudo"

Sometimes reads Duel Runner magazines to stay up to date

Akiza has convinced him to try some mystery novels, but he is stupid good at figuring out the mystery halfway through

Favorite fairy tale is The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Jack:

Reads newspapers and dueling magazines, usually with his morning coffee

Looks for articles about himself or written by Carly first

Is very up to date on politics

Growing up, he was the designated storyteller whenever Martha was busy. Yusei was a better reader, but Jack was better at setting the mood and doing the voices

Favorite fairy tale is Jack and the Beanstalk

Akiza:

Was a lonely kid, so read a lot

Reads a bit of everything, but her favorites are mystery novels, poetry, and fashion magazines -Prefers romance as a side plot rather than the main genre

Convinced the group to watch a movie adaptation of a murder mystery she'd read, then Yusei points out an inaccuracy in the train design and Akiza nearly combusts because he was very close to spoiling the twist that exposes the murderer

Sometimes writes poetry, but always burns the notebook when it's filled

Favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast

Crow:

Canonically learned to read from Duel Monsters cards, Martha made sure he caught up when she adopted him

Reads more to his kids than for himself

Has a library card and uses it purely to get requested books for his kids

Sometimes reads comics and graphic novels, but more for the art than story

If he went to school, he'd be the type of kid that watched the movie to write a book report

Favorite fairy tale is The Ugly Duckling

Luna:

Is a big reader, spent a lot of time in hospitals or on bed rest so picked it up

Main genres are fantasy, fairy tales, and folk tales -Likes anything that involves dragons, fae, or witches the most

Also sometimes reads ecology books; knows a lot of obscure insect facts

Her and Leo have library cards and go once a week

Has gotten in trouble for reading in class

Favorite fairy tale is between Rapunzel and Hansel and Gretel

Leo:

Reads almost exclusively comic books and manga (but would be a Percy Jackson kid if it existed) -Favorites are the Elemental Heroes and Neo Spacian comics

Exchanges comics with Crow a lot

His dad would always give him the comic and puzzle pages in the newspaper

Is really good at solving the crosswords and sudoku puzzles

Has also gotten in trouble for reading during class

Collects cutouts from dueling magazines that he likes best, most are of Jack but has a mini collection of Yusei too

Favorite fairy tale is between Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Hansel and Gretel

Carly:

Used to read a lot as a kid, but has less time for it than she'd like as an adult

Mostly reads news articles and magazines, especially dueling magazines, but that's 50% for work -Looks for anything featuring Jack first

Main genre of choice is romance of any kind

Jack once read one of her romance novels while he was hiding out at her place...he regrets it

Used to write a blog for dueling news in college, but stopped when she started working

Is into bullet journaling

Favorite fairy tale is The Little Mermaid

Misty:

Actually doesn't read much fashion magazines, but studied Fashion History in college and often reads books on that

Her main genre of choice is horror, prefers psychological and gothic horror -Listens to audiobooks on long plane rides

Also reads a lot of cooking and baking books, likes trying out new recipes

Used to be an avid follower of Carly's blog

Very sporadic taste

Favorite fairy tale is Swan Lake, her family used to watch the ballet every Christmas

Kalin:

Is not picky, reads out of boredom so will read literally anything that comes his way -Likes educational books the most

Books in Satellite often got burned for warmth, so not a lot of options available

He would dig through the dump for things to sell as a kid, but books weren't worth much so he'd just keep the intact ones

Read a french language textbook once and now can read in fluent french, but his pronunciation is terrible because he's rarely heard it spoken

Would eventually start a library in Crash Town

Doesn't have a favorite fairy tale (it's Cinderella)

Greiger:

Reads a lot of mythology and folk tales

Started with telling the tales to his younger siblings and younger kids in his village, eventually got interested in the mythology of other cultures as well

Got really interested in Egyptian mythology and Duel Monsters' origins in it

Likes Inca mythology the most (because it's what he grew up on), but couldn't pick a favorite tale if he tried

Reader like isabella from encanto.( has magic to create plants/flowers) When reader was a baby flowers would suddenly pop into their hair, confusing the ror family. Years later teen! Readers friend says something that flusters them and the flowers pop into their hair, how does the family react?

-Being a human child, many of your massively adopted family were surprised when you obtained the ability to create flowers, waving your hands around and blossoms of various colors appearing.

-It was rather cute, when you were little, when there were times you couldn’t control your powers, like when you sneezed, and little flowers would appear at random spots in your hair.

-You grew up growing stronger through playing, creating flower showers or growing massive gardens, most of them with no real pattern or organization, at least until you got older.

-You loved using your abilities to grow beautiful gardens, creating beautiful areas for couples and making so many people happy and you just loved to go and have fun, using your vines to swing around, giving your family mini heart attacks.

-When you were a teenager, you had complete control over your abilities, except for things like getting scared or sneezing still- that was one thing you couldn’t control, but then again, sneezes were something nobody could control.

-You were definitely a beautiful young lady in Valhalla, there were many admirers, as well as several suitors who had gone to your family for permission or propose, only to be rejected.

-You didn’t know this, about the suitors, mainly because they didn’t feel like anyone was worthy of their precious princess- plus they wanted these suitors to approach you first, because if you approved of them, then they would at least listen to this evil man who wanted to take you away, instead of just throwing him out.

-You were walking around with your friends in the Norse gardens, as Odin asked you to brighten the place up a bit for the garden party he was hosting, something you were happy to do- but that’s why he did it, because he knew it would make you happy.

“Yeah! Bye Mama!” he waved enthusiastically as Vaggie had to be dragged to the car by Charlie. They watched the car drive off and Jacob pouted, “I miss mama.”

“She’ll be back soon, don’t worry,” Carmilla kissed his head. They went into the living room where Carmilla had set up some cannibal activities, like a dead sinner to tear into, coloring books, and a stabbing target.

Jacob rushed over to the coloring book, using the sinner’s blood as paint. Slowly, the others started coming home, starting with Clara and Odette, who knew who Jacob was, then Emily, who didn’t, and Sera, who has never seen him before.

“Carmilla Carmine,” Sera groaned as she saw the little boy play a board game with the girls, “I thought we talked about you adopting kids. You said Vaggie was the last one.”

The three Carmines looked at each other and had the same thought.

“Vaggie was the last daughter, Jacob is a son,” Odette informed Sera as Clara whispered the plan into Jacob’s ear. The little boy nodded enthusiastically.

“Mother! Upies!” Jacob ordered, holding his hands up. He still had blood on his clothes.

“No, Carmilla, return him now,” Sera ordered.

“But Sera,” Clara started the baby spider-eyes that the others quickly joined in. Sera turned away.

“No buts, we have enough children.” Sera turned to Carmilla, “Why did you adopt another child without telling me?”

“Because you would have said no,” Carmilla hummed. She opened her arms and Jacob rushed in for a hug, “can you really resist such a cute face? Can he at least stay till after dinner?”

“Do we even have food for him?”

“Oh don’t worry, I made sure to pick up some sinners for him,” Carmilla bounced him on her knee, “his food is in the black crock-pot.”

Sera paled, “the-the black one?”

“Yeah, ours is in the pressure pot wh- you didn’t,” Carmilla covered her mouth, growing horror and realization came to all of them.

“I just wanted a taste. I-I didn’t think- I’m going to be sick,” Sera ran into the bathroom. Jacob jumped off Carmilla’s knee as she ran after.

“Is grandma going to be ok?” Jacob asked Clara.

“90% sure. Thou I don’t know what happens when an angel decides to become a cannibal,” Odette adjusted her glasses.

“Five bucks says that she skips dinner tonight,” Clara said.

“Deal,” Jacob pulled out a five and they both passed the bills to Odette to oversee the bet.

Emily coughed, turning their attention from the sound of Sera wrenching to Emily, “Jacob is our…”

“Nephew, mama must be babysitting for Vaggie,” Clara rubbed the boy’s head. He shoved her and they had a mini-fight until Carmilla came out. Sera did show up for dinner, she didn’t eat anything, but Jacob technically won the bet and told Vaggie everything when she picked him up.
