Skate America 2020
(Pairs, Ice Dance)
I’ve already made a post about singles so it’s high time to write something about pairs and ice dance.
Pairs
Here are some highlights from pairs:
Audrey Lu/Misha Mitrofanov -  FP Charlie Chaplin There will simply never be enough Charlie programs for me ;) Yes, I’m biased and certain Javier Fernandez has a lot to do with it.
Alexa Scimeca-Knierim/Brandon Frazier - Linkin Park / Fall on me I wanted to mourn for a while because of the split of Heaven/Brandon but they didn’t give me any chance. Their SP was reaaally good and the FP was amazing. Yes, I’m the biggest fan of Andrea Bocelli, so it helps ;) (Though I have to admit I was a bit afraid or unsure about this particular song because you know superstition, “falling” + pairs skating). They were awesome and to think they accomplished this in such a short time under these circumstances...
Jessica Callalang/Brian Johnson - SP Game of Thrones  I just love it. How powerful and tender they are.
Tarah Kayne/Danny O’Shea - Clair de Lune / Carmen Somewhere I read “ban warhorses from skating” onto which someone replied “Kayne/O’Shea would have nothing left to skate to”.  I don’t get this much hate for warhoses (unless it’s Moulin Rouge of course). If you skate it well, then why not. It certainly weren’t performances they wanted, going into the event as number one “on the paper” and ending up fifth... But the programs are good. I loved their interpretation.
Ice dance
Eva Pate/Logan Bye - Motown the musical / Say something I saw them for the first time and their programs were really nice. I loved their rhythm dance.
Emily Monahan/Ilias Fourati -  Fosse / Pet shop boys I was mainly happy that they got a chance to skate in a competition even though they were not representing the US. Their programs were a bit awkward avantgarde but ok.
Lorraine McNamara/Anton Spiridonov - Big Spender / Pink Floyd As I said in my ISP points challenge post, first Big Spender program I liked. (I don’t want to sound preachy but Big Spender is one of the extremely small number of songs I really have a problem with because in juniors it’s inappropriate. But as a song in a senior program... no problem with that.)
Molly Cesanek/Yehor Yehorov - Shout, Walking on Sunshine / Make it rain Also my first time seeing them and it was such a great combination of programs. A really energetic rhythm dance and what I call a “feel good” free program. We need them too. Not everything has to be dramatic.
Caroline Green/Michael Parsons - Thoroughly modern Millie / Dance 4 me I don’t know why but I didn’t like them last season and see, it only takes one classic RD and I will be a fan. The FD is still not my cup of tea but now I’m interested in them as a team. Also Caroline is so talented so young and keeping up with all other competitors. I think their RD was my favourite dance of the event in fact.
Christina Carreira / Anthony Ponomarenko - Too darn hot / Dr. Zhivago I was a bit worried about their third place with how good Green/Parsons were, but these two also did a great job. Their free dance is beautiful (but let me cry over their Farrucas for a moment longer)
Kaitlyn Hawayek / Jean-Luc Baker - Saturday Night Fever / Heart of glass They were perfect in the rhythm dance, so much energy, so sharp, amazing interpretation. And I’m warming up to their FD too!
Madison Hubbell / Zachary Donohue - Burlesque / Hallelujah I can’t even describe how relieved I am that they changed both of their programs. In the rhythm dance they are speed, they are passion, they are power personified. And their FD will make you cry. Thank you, Scott Moir, for helping them. I’m just so happy they are back on track. (Also, have you seen sleevless Zach???)

feral merman gutting a fish, i sculpted him two years ago but was unable to finish because he melted (my room can reach over 100 degrees in the heat of summer). only unfinished parts were the hands, fish, and the rock he’s sitting on (wanted to add reeds and coral and other details). despite him not surviving he’s one of my proudest creations ever, i’m so glad i got these photos before he collapsed into a sad slump of slime and wire

aw thank u! this came at a good time
1. my cat! she’s so fluffy and squishy, and i think she must’ve gotten sweetheart training before i adopted her because she’s just the nicest lil baby ever, even if she rarely snuggles
2. uhhh obviously atla lol, i can’t contain the joy the world and characters bring to me
3. art/writing/movies/youtube vids/video games etc etc—it makes me so frickin happy that people can just. create cool stuff and share it with others. coolest thing ever for real
4. my oc misha kayne. i’m a maladaptive daydreamer and he’s been with me for… eleven years now i think? and i just adore him so much, plus the lil stories i make up for him help me cope with stuff happening in my real life and i… idk i probably owe him everything
5. talking with my friend and my family! i don’t really have any actual friends where i live, so i love that i can keep in touch with my friend and my family on the phone and stuff. i live with my brother too and he and i don’t really talk all that much (my fault, i hole up a lot), but yesterday for my birthday he bought dinner and we watched movies and caught up. it was just really lovely

2020 Skate America Preview - Pairs
If there was any favorite for the gold medal in the Pairs event, I would say it’s reigning US Silver Medalists, Jessica Calalang and Brian Johnson, who looked very good at the ISP Points Challenge, which they won. They were around 207 in the first opportunity and 215 in the second, so they should sail to a victory here. In my opinion, it’s theirs to lose.
As for the silver medal, I would say our favorites are Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Brandon Frazier, who just teamed up last Spring. They were around 200 in both of the opportunities of the ISP Points Challenge, solidly above the rest of the field, so they should sail to say easy silver medal here in their International debut as a pair.
The favorite for the bronze medal, I would say, are Ashley-Cain Gribble and Timothy LeDuc, who were solidly third in both of the ISP Points Challenges opportunities. They’re not beatable here, so they can’t rest on their laurels, but they are also capable of winning silver here if they can skate a near-personal best, but based on how they skated so far, I would put them here.
The fourth place team I would say are Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea, who are coachless at the moment, after leaving their coaches not long ago. They were a solid fourth at both opportunities of the ISP Points Challenge. If everyone skates their personal best, I can’t see them placing higher than third, but if mistakes are made by the top teams, look for them slip up onto the podium.
The solid fifth place team seems to be Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov. They were fifth at both opportunities of the ISP Points Challenge. I can’t see them challenging the top four, and if they skate the way they have been so far, they should be solidly fifth here.
The next ranked team would be, in my opinion, Olivia Serafini and Mervin Tran. They have started gelling as a pair, but they have ranked blow Lu and Mitrofanov, and I don’t see that changing here. Unless mistakes are made, they should be solidly sixth here.
Our seventh ranked team should be Emily Chan and Spencer Howe, who were eighth at the ISP Points Challenge. Without one of the higher-ranked teams here, they should be seventh. They can’t afford too many mistakes, or they could slip down into eighth, but I can’t see them challenging for any higher here than seventh.
That leaves our only non-American team, Anna Vernikov and Evgeni Krasnopolksi of Israel in eighth place. Their scores last season were around 140 – 150, and I can’t see them out of eighth place, unfortunately. If mistakes are made by Chan and Howe, they might be able to slip up into seventh, but I don’t see them any higher than that.
