Lights Out, Blanket Fort - Owen Power imagine

This is my entry for @bbrissonn's winter fic exchange! I received @blankenlove as the giftee, and I had an absolute blast writing this. I hope y'all enjoy this fic :)

summary: even with a severe winter storm in town, you and Owen still manage to have find a way to have fun…

"Well, it looks like we have to cancel our trip to my parents' house for Christmas this year, babe." Owen rubbed the heel of his palm against his chest as he blankly stared at his phone. "We're under a blizzard warning for a few days and travel has been highly discouraged…"

You observed Owen's slowly stooping posture as he slumped against the couch. Owen was looking forward to returning to Mississauga for the holidays, but the weather had other plans for you and Owen.

Carefully throwing his phone onto the coffee table without damaging either, Owen's arms hung at his side as they went slack.

"I'm sorry our trip had to be canceled," you tentatively approached the Canadian and squeezed his shoulder, offering him a sad smile while rubbing circles and other patterns on his back to soothe him. "Maybe we could visit them for Easter?"

You spoke with a gentle tone while taking a seat next to your boyfriend; you let out a deep sigh as you watched Owen's eyebrows pull down in concentration -- pondering your suggestion.

"I guess that'd be plausible," he glanced at you with a lopsided and small smile. "It sucks we're missing Christmas this year, but Easter's almost around the corner."

Patting Owen's leg out of comfort, you leaned in closer to press a kiss on his forehead.

"But we can have lots of fun this Christmas with just the two of us too!" Owen couldn't help but raise his eyebrows and offer you a questioning gaze. "We could binge watch holiday movies, snuggle together by the electric fireplace, have so many mugs of hot cocoa, bake loads of cookies, you know, cute, romantic winter stuff that couples partake in."

You gently bit your lip; your eyes were wide and shining as you thought about the endless possibilities of the fun you and Owen could have despite the wintry hazardous weather.

"Could we perhaps snuggle by the fireplace and have some hot cocoa?" A tint crept across the Canadian's cheeks as he stared at you with a sheepish grin. Owen clasped his hands under his chin in a prayer gesture almost and muttered please repeatedly under his breath; he held his posture still in expectation.

You couldn't help but giggle as you watched your boyfriend pull out every trick in his book to try to convince you. But needless to say, just seeing Owen happy and glowing was all the convincing you needed to go along with his plans for the night.

Owen licked his lips with cautious hope, "please, Y/N?" He spoke with a slight tremble in his voice.

You reached out to brush Owen's cheek; your fingertips skimmed along his jaw line as you adoringly gazed at him. "Of course, babe," you spoke with a soft voice, "we can do anything your heart desires to, Owen."

The Canadian felt his heartbeat quicken; a beaming smile took over his face as he wordlessly stared at you with glee in his eyes. Before you knew it, Owen took your face in his hands and started placing kisses all over your face.

"Owen, babe, you're tickling me!" You shrieked breathlessly while trying to squirm out of your boyfriend's grasp.

"Where are all the marshmallows keep disappearing off to?" You scratched at your cheek while turning to look at the bowl of mini marshmallows across the counter. The bowl at first was overflowing with mini marshmallows; however, since you began the arduous processing of preparing your family's secret hot cocoa recipe, the number slowly started to dwindle.

You chewed on your lip and shrugged your shoulders; turning back to the simmering stovepan in front of you. With an instinct tingling in your mind, you sneakily turned around to find Owen snacking on a few more of the mini marshmallows.

"Owen! Babe, you're eating the marshmallows?" A small pout made its way onto your lips, watching your boyfriend nervously giggle at you -- knowing he got caught. "I was saving those for the toppings for our hot cocoas!"

Owen's entire face flushed while he finished munching. "Y/N, you know I can't control myself around marshmallows!" Your boyfriend playfully whimpered as he wrapped his lanky arms around your middle; burrowing his head into the crook of your neck as you continued to stir the saucepan filled with delicious hot cocoa.

You couldn't help but let out a soft laugh as you leaned your head against his; a bright smile crept upon your lips while you quietly took in how beautiful your boyfriend was and how you were the luckiest person on the western side of the Atlantic Ocean to have a sweet and wonderful boyfriend like Owen.

You soon were brought out of your daydream because of Owen's chuckles, to which you furrowed your eyebrows at.

"The hot cocoa's about to boil over, babe," he whispered with a low-pitched tone in his voice while placing a kiss onto your cheek.

Your eyes soon widened at the sight in front of you, a tint made its way across your cheeks as you could feel your ears turn red.

Owen let out a content sigh as he took another sip of his hot cocoa, a little bit of whipped cream stuck onto his upper lip as he pulled the mug away from his lips.

There was a yearning look written in your eyes; your eyes were focused on the little whipped cream mustache your boyfriend. Owen soon caught onto your gaze and tilted his head to the side as he stared back at you.

"Is there something on my face, Y/N?" Wanting to tease him a little, you shook your head without saying a word. Owen curtly nodded his head albeit with a slight frown on his lips as he continued to drink from his mug of hot cocoa.

You brought your free hand up to your lips in an effort to stifle your giggles as Owen was still clueless about the mess on his face.

"Ok, I feel like you're hiding something from me!" The Canadian pressed his lips into a fine, his hands reached across the coffee table for his phone. Before he had a chance to turn his phone on, you sneakily attacked him with a short but sweet kiss.

Once you promptly pulled away from the kiss was when Owen realized what you were giggling at.

"You're evil, babe," he turned his head away from you in a playful protest, a pout made its way onto the Canadian's face as he feigned shock.

"I'm sorry, Owen," you couldn't help but boisterously laugh; setting your mug of hot cocoa down on the coffee table near you before you took Owen's face in your hands and brought him in for a smooch. "Will you ever forgive me, babe?"

Just as Owen was about to respond, the lights flickered for a few seconds before the entire room turned pitch dark.

"Well, there goes the romantic ambience," even though it was near impossible to really see your boyfriend's face at that particular moment, you knew without a doubt, he had a cheesy smirk on his lips.

You playfully whacked his shoulder and sarcastically laugh as you rose up from your seated position.

"I'm going to see if we have any flashlights around the apartment," you mumbled under your breath to yourself. "Owen, could you check to see if we have any leftover candles laying around in the meantime?"

Owen let out an audible noise, signaling that he understood his mission. You soon then disappeared off to a different room while the Canadian stayed put on the couch.

An idea soon popped into his mind as a cheerful grin made its way onto his lips, one he was sure you were going to love.

"Well, at least this flashlight seems to be working," you mumbled to yourself while walking back to the living room; only to stop in your tracks when you saw an ongoing construction involving numerous blankets and pillows and cushions. "Hello, what's this?"

When Owen promptly turned his head, he resembled a deer caught in headlights as he stared up at you from where he sat on the floor.

"I wanted it to be a surprise!" Owen let out a disappointed groan as he lifted himself off the floor and quietly made his way over to where you stood.

"I see you kept yourself occupied while I was gone, Mr. Power," you walked quickly to erase the distance between you and the Canadian.

"Figured I could keep myself occupied for a while," he shrugged his shoulders in a nonchalant manner as he goofily grinned at you.

"I thought I asked you to check to see if we had any candles?" You raised an eyebrow at the Canadian, knowing fully well that he most likely didn't search for the candles, but there was a knowing smirk on your lips nevertheless.

"You did," he let out a playful sigh while wrapping his arm around your shoulders and brought you closer to him. "But I thought we could have some fun with no electricity in our cozy, little blanket fort!"

You couldn't help but loudly giggle at your boyfriend's childlike antics.

"You really are a child at heart, Power," you mumbled quietly to yourself; playfully shaking your head as you splayed your hand over your boyfriend's heart.

"I may be a child at heart," Owen sweetly smiled at you while placing a soft, gentle kiss on your hairline. "But you love me and my childish antics, Y/N…"

Coach Jessica Wyant shared a clip of Stephen in practice at Granite Club for his birthday. Considering the lack of Christmas decorations this clip is from the summer.

I have read that Stephen was invited by Skate Ontario to a Nationals simulation at Iceland Arena in Mississauga along with other Ontario skaters. The simulation was closed to the public, but judges were present. Going off of social media I believe it was held yesterday Wednesday, but it would have likely been over two days. We don't know if he's back to Toronto but if he is I hope he was able to participate.

One of my Christmas presents to myself this year was a second @shovava-clothing shawl (2nd year in a row to buy something for myself from her store). Taken it a bit to get here, though the vast majority of that was on the Canada Customs/Post end of things. It took from Dec 15-17 to go from her store in Australia to customs in Richmond BC, where it lingered in customs until Christmas Eve (yay Christmas parcels backlogs, /sigh), and then spent an age crawling across Canada (probably via truck) through several statutory holiday days, until it reached the sorting terminal in Mississauga and got booted back up north to my neck of the woods. I say ‘back up’ as the truck would have passed within a 20-30 minute drive from here on its way through Ontario from Manitoba, assuming it took the commonly-used-for-trucking highways 17->69->400 corridor. At least I had the Canada Post tracking updates to keep me amused while waiting.

I love how pretty this scarf is! The photo doesn’t really do it justice, as the lighter turquoise parts of the dragonfly wings aren’t showing with anywhere near the saturation they actually have, and the dark background is more very dark blue than blue-black IRL

I went for the lighter cotton fabric instead of the silk-cashmere that I went with for last year’s night owl scarf, and am planning to use this one as a spring-summer scarf, while the owl will be more autumn-winter.
