When Twilight Sparkle comes to Ponyville for the first time, little Spike claims he's going to feel homesick, and Twilight is informed (very enthusiastically) by Pinkie Pie that there is a full-time vet in Ponyville, and one of the best in all of Equestria. When she comes to the house, however, this proclaimed vet states she would not open the door for her pet until Twilight leaves. This is Fluttershy, one of the best vets in all of Equestria, a pegasus who has an affinity for all animals, and one of the shyest ponies Twilight will ever meet. But not only is Fluttershy a vet, but she has books and books that she had written herself about how to take care of each and every kind of pet, and after lots of growth and support from her friends, she decides to publish them all under a pen name. By the end of the series, she has her own sanctuary that she takes care of full of rare animals that she teaches others about.

Design:

For the pegasi characters, I wanted to add more feathers. Fetlocks, feathered ears that go down the face, feathers along their backs and along the tail, as well as different shapes for feathers. Fluttershy has very rounded, soft feathers all over, along with her chest fluff, making her very comforting to animals and more approachable. This also makes her less aerodynamic and adds to her being unable to fly very fast, the wind catching in her fur and rounded feathers. I also had her tie up her mane and tail to keep it out of the way when she is working with animals, but keeps it low enough to hide her face when she wants.

some sort of bl2 x hobbit crossover (reader's a siren but not from the borderlands universe, and in this case their magic is more like pony magic from mlp friendship is magic or bonnies magic from vampire diaries). they dont get any markings or anything until they "leech" the gold sickness from thorin (which, in turn, affects the reader by making their powers more awesome). obvs there's some limitations (they lose the ability to fully control their limbs and are pretty much wheelchair-bound for a few months). reader is pretty much a demigod (probably just as powerful if not maybe a little less powerful than gandalf).

That twiluna steampunk fic I mentioned comes to the rescue with yet another characterization I really like, but this time for Rainbow Dash

She has aspirations of being an explorer---despite being stuck in her dead-end job---but tries too hard to fit into the Gentlemare Adventurer archetype, so she puts on a fake British accent all of the time, and it's honestly a fun motivation for her. She's also quick-witted, as in a standoff, she gave an out to the other characters that not even Twilight thought of. Finally, she straight up punches an evil university professor that had been mistreating Pinkie Pie for pretty much her entire life.

Unrelated, but some other fun things that I like about this fic:

Rarity literally starts drooling when she first sees Applejack---who is described to be very muscular---and this leads to some very funny moments between the two

Rarity having some badass moments like using her cigarette to light the throne room on fire, or intentionally giving uncorrected math equations to cover up plans

characters having knowledge that makes the setting more believable, like Twilight and Pinkie being inventors, Applejack being a handymare, and Rainbow being able to charge really powerful lightning

no spoilers, but I REALLY like the directions this story takes, and it's not just a steampunk retelling of the first two episodes of the show

Alright, I think that's enough gushing about this fic, but it proves as a great example as to why I often like fan content more than canon content for anything, not just MLP

I heard rarity starts drooling over applejack and passed out. what did i miss Srsly tho ya should link the fic; i agree completely that fanon content is often better, because we get the benefit of hindsight and unlimited restrctions! Okay this is insane of me but I just read The Twilight Effect despite having zero prior knowledge of mlp so it just felt like I got to read this amazing novel for free. I am being so legit right now I loved it. I've been following you on tumblr for years, I completely forget what for originally but I figured we must have similar taste or I wouldn't have followed you way back when and I was looking for something to read so I kind of went "what the hell, why not" and so I read your fic and it was the best decision I've made all month. to hear that you could still enjoy the story with no knowledge of mlp makes me really, really happy. because, even tho it’s fanfiction with borrowed characters, the original plot points are still a story that i desperately needed to tell. it’s a bit funny because back in 2017 i tried to write this story for the first time, and looking back it was definitely a miserable failure—which i now do feel was bc of a lack of a story outside of “how can i retell the first 2 episodes with humans and also sunset shimmer”. but after growing up a whole lot and writing a ton of other “failures” that can never see the light of day, i suddenly found myself with a story for that previously-abandoned idea from 2017 that i actually thought was good. and well, you know the rest from there :)

MS Paint Fan Adventures I'm thinking about and working on

I need to learn how to make an MSPFA account correctly, since any easy way doesn't work. But here goes the list!

Pre-Homestuck Inspired/Custom

My Little Pony is a retelling of the entire G4 MLP series in the style of an MS Paint Adventure, and not the Homestuck kind. I haven't watched the show since the start of this year and I gotta analyze every single scene from "Friendship Is Magic Part 1" to "The Last Problem" in order to get the story just like the show plot. It's currently in progress, but I didn't speed it up nor have I resumed it that much.

Camplife centers around 4 men in a camping site, eventually making way to a whole little town in a forest area. I've already done a few pages of it and have planned future events out of the comic, which I'll get to. It's planned to be half user controlled and half author controlled.

Homestuck Inspired

TGWTGQuest is about every member of the Channel Awesome community (Excluding the controversial ones, but even then they have to be mocked) and a bunch of bullshit adventures they partake in, mostly centered around the Nostalgia Critic. This might be more of a well-made shitpost than a real adventure because Channel Awesome's content really sucks. But hey, I began writing the planned pages for it! (I guess I have no clue how to make an MS Paint Adventure right, skull skull)

Caraku Levhat is about a young oliveblooded detective who resolves a bunch of federal issues and vast errors near and around the city he's in. The titular protagonist will probably have that Darkwing Duck personality if I can actually write that down.

The narration will be entirely built as a 1st person perspective from our main character, meaning everything that's told will be coming out of his own, hard-boiled words.

I can't read Homestuck so I'll just get some research outta the MSPA Wiki to help me be accurate a bit.

Jokes

Imagine a really bad gaming comic in the form of an MS Paint Adventure, minus the MS Paint and plus the Photoshop. Buckleyquest is basically most of the Ctrl+Alt+Del's comics (I have a terrible sense of humor so I can't tell if they're funny or not) that can be controlled through user input or author's choice. It has the same artstyle as the comic, albeit the first few panels, and sometimes, I have the potential to mock Ctrl+Alt+Del and its author in the fan adventure. It's gonna be the stupidest one I've made.

Dooj, simply put, is Homestuck, except a simple command will either change the storyline, change a character, add a character, or fuck everything up completely. And what's the command? DOOJ. Other commands made up as a weird word will also be included, such as MOOK, intended to revert the comic to its original story, and FOOP, which pauses the story automatically, shifting to the MSPA Reader's perspective.

Dooj may also include mockery against Homestuck, mockery against Andrew Hussie and his friends, sometimes shit I hate to write out, and cameos of characters and scenes from other webcomics.

I'm also making a similar project called KATEDREW MITCHUSSIE'S MAGNUM OPUS, which will mock Homestuck: Beyond Canon and will have a similar premise to DOOJ.

I was also planning to make a Jerkcity adventure but that would probably be controversial.

Doing a MLP redesign and retelling! First is Twilight Sparkle.

Lore:

Twilight Sparkle starts the same way she does in the show where she is a pupil of Princess Celestia and is sent to Ponyville to learn about friendship, but instead of just living in the library with free reign of the town, she is given a full time job like the other ponies she has. In this version, she is made the official librarian for the town, as well as the planner and archivist for the mayor, as well as keeping up with her magic studies. This version of Twilight takes on the challenges head on and thinks that she will have plenty of time for her jobs and education because while she is very interested in learning about friendship to make her teacher proud, she never planned on actually becoming friends with anyone. She wanted to be a simple observer while she worked, but that all changed when the others of the Mane 6 meet her and show her around. She is very enthusiastic about talking to them, but while observing the friendships they all shared, she realized just how lonely it can be when she didn't have any friends. In this retelling, Nightmare Moon doesn't resurface until the end of the season, when Twilight realizes that she actually does want to be friends with the other ponies, and that is when the elements of harmony first surface.

Design:

I wanted to make Twilight more of the actual colors of Twilight, so I darkened her coat and added starry freckles and stars to her legs, glasses with a starry chain, and the iconic yellow color to her hair. I also wanted to make her mane and tail much longer to show that she hasn't been maintaining it since she is so busy with other things, so she throws it up in a messy bun instead. I changed her cutie mark a little too, but nothing too crazy. For the unicorns in my retelling, I wanted to give them longer coats and cloven hooves, as well as making each horn more unique depending on the strength of the unicorns magic. The stronger the magic, the more intricate the patterns will be on their horn.

Severus Snake AU (Harry Potter x MLP crossover, Creepypasta)

For Cringetober days 24 and 13

If not cringetober, I would have never told this shit I fear myself to anybody. invented this when I was 12. started considering it as cringe at 15 years old.

Notes:

HP x MLP crossover. In this AU wizarding world and Equestria are parallel universes, and their inhabitants can move between worlds through portals (but nearly anybody doesn’t know about another world existence). All characters are ponies!!! (Harry Potter characters are ponified)

Major events happen after the last Harry Potter book “The deathly hallows” and after last season of MLP gen 4, but just right after the “Rainbow road trip” before the main 6 aged up too much.

Warnings: violence, graphic blood, extreme cringe.

*I barely remember the scenario of this mess, some plot points have different variations and when I stopped working on this, the story was unfinished and still has plot holes.

Messy brief retelling of the whole story:

After the battle of Hogwarts, when he have already mourned and burried perished friends, Harry Potter sleeps. When he wakes up, he remembers that he have forgotten about a very important person. He informs his friends but wants to go on his own. Harry enters the Shrieking Shack and…Snape’s body is not here. “WTF?!” — Harry thinks. HP thinks kinda “Nevermind” and walks to Hogwarts.

The next day there is news that one Hogsmeade pony-farmer has disappeared without a trace. Ron and Hermione say: “Nevermind!” But Harry is worried, because he remembers Snape’s body disappearance. On the next day, the magazine reports about new missed Hogsmeade ponies. And next days — the same. And some ponies told they saw a sinister beast on the villageside. Harry and friends decide to go there and figure out WTF is going on (they couldn’t miss such fun).

Eventually they went to the Shrieking Shack and… the cellar hatch opens and… “ — Surprise!” The trio sees white pony with short black mane with snake teeth, smiling and staring at them. Stallions mouth and teeth were covered with blood and…he had bloody wound on the left side of his neck. His Eyes had red snake-like pupils. It looked like too positive and snake-like Severus Snape.

— Severus Snape? — Harry mumbled.

— Severus Snake! — the freak answered. — Happy to see you kids, come in!

Everybody went to the cellar. It looked like torture room. There was a lot of knifes, poisons, torture tools and even the wall to fix ponies in there (like in Cupcakes)

Snake joyfully tells them how he came to life after death, how he thinks that his ‘old’ behavior was dumb and how he would treat Harry and other good guys that he knows well, how he is positive and funny now.

Harry carefully asks him about the torture room and briefly hints, that he wants explanation why Snake’s mouth are in blood.

Snake at ease tells them that now he has a snake-like stomach and has to eat meat. Also he explained, that he tortures only evil-bad ponies, in general former death eaters. After the battle of Hogwarts a lot of death eaters went hiding in Hogsmeade and nowadays pretending to be usual local folks. And Snake fixes this issue by torturing them, in this way he implements their karma.

The trio even don’t know what to say, so they quietly say “Bye” to Severus Snake and go out to digest all what just happened. Snake joyfully says, that he is always happy to see them.

Harry, Ron and Hermione decided not to tell anyone about Snake and just wait and see what Snake really is, because they know nothing about his nature and reason why he is so visually alike to mutated Severus Snape. Next few days they regularly visited him and tried to convince him not to kill ponies and not to torture death eaters, but Snake said that it’s his kredo and he won’t change. Besides everything, Snake treated the trio as dear guests and friends and never got mad at them, always smiled and ignored the fact that kids obviously don’t enjoy his company and consider him as evil force. Severus Snake was nearly emotionless — his only emotions were smiling and laughing. It seemed like he considered world as one big joke for him.

*Note: from this moment I can’t really remember the order of scenes and the plot has many variations and in most of the parts I interpret.)

One day trio came to Snake but he wasn’t home and left note on the cellar hatch: “Went to teach Malfoys how to live properly, see you soon!”.

— Oh no! — Harry said. “Malfoys have got enough, we mustn’t let this freak torture them! ” Harry remembered how Narcissa Malfoy saved him and what Draco went through under Voldemort’s leadership.

Trio goes to Malfoy Manor.

As it turned out when they arrived, Harry and friends were late but not too late. Snake has already intimidated the whole Malfoy family. Now Snake was standing with Draco, forcibly holding him with magic, in front of them Lucius and Narcissa standing terrified and begging Snake to stop. Snake said that he is gonna take Draco with him and educate him properly (he wasn’t going to torture him, no, just wanted to teach him how to be a “good guy” which Snake now in his own eyes was).

Harry interrupted and with all the courage told Snake, that if he doesn’t stop, Harry will stop being his friend and be telling all wizards about his crimes. He also plainly told Snake what trio thinks about his behavior and how he is disappointed in Snake. Snake listened to him calmly. In the end of his speech Harry tried to manipulate Snake by telling that Snake’s threats were the best lesson for Malfoys and he better let them go because if he takes Malfoy with him and teaches him, his arrogant parents will perceive it as your service. Moreover, they will be proud of it: such person treats their son as a student.

Harry’s words had affection on Snake. He didn’t take the last part seriously, but he stopped smiling. It was the first time he looked sad and serious. Pony was upset about Harry’s real attitude towards him and such furious threats. Snake exempted Draco. He said to trio:“I thought you are my friends. I thought you understand me.” He turned away from them and apparitioned (teleported back to the Shrieking Shack).

Harry and trio talked to Malfoys a bit, and then went back to Hogwarts. They wanted but were afraid to visit Snake. But after all ventured to do it and…heard Snake talking to someone, someone they didn’t know. They sat calmly for awhile, eavesdropping. Another voice said something about another world, portals. Then everything stirred up, strange noise, wind and light arised. Then everything began to spin around, trio were moving somewhere in mess… Then they have fallen on the ground. They were in some sunny place…

End of the first part

On this point I will explain some lore things regarding Snake, retell the prequel of all events — give you author statements to explain everything unknown.

Lore / Backstory

The voice trio heard belongs to pony named Tiatara. This mare is the real main antagonist and culprit of the whole Severus Snake situation.

Tiatara:

Appearance: black coat, fuchsia colored mane. Sized like princess Luna, unicorn. Magenta colored eyes. Wears necklace same to nightmare Rarity’s.

Backstory: Tiatara is from Equestria, she dreamed to be a princess. She studied in Canterlot school even before Twilight, she was a bit older than her. Tiatara tried to be politician, but career failed. Then some bad things happen (I didn’t come up with it) and she is forced to leave Canterlot. She was angry with ponies. Tiatara accidentally met witch pony who lived in the forest (don’t know her name). Tiatara lived with her and that mare teached her another type of magic, especially dark magic, potions and something else. Witch told her about another world with another laws and politics. Tiatara liked it more than Equestria, forming her opinion based on tales. Also witch sometimes used portal to that world but forbade Tiatara to doing it.

Tiatara was jealous of Twilight when she became princess and for a long time just watched the world change. After Chrysalis, Tirek and Cozy Glow were defeated, Tiatara thought that it’s good chance for her to become important for Equestria. She killed old witch pony, now she can use portal she made to move to the another world. That world was wizarding world.

Tiatara started spending more time in another world. But one day, while walking in the Forbidden Forest, she found beautiful red stone… She took it to her shelter to discover and keep it. That stone had special affection on Tiatara. She became obsessed with it. Pony admired it, slept and ate with it and took the stone everywhere with her.

One night Tiatara had a dream. She was in a dark black and red forest with bloody moon and dried trees. She walked there and soon met spooky creatures. They all had injuries which make usual ponies dead, but the creatures were alive. They scared her on purpose and acted like crazy. Tiatara woke up.

On the next few days she had common dreams. But she soon stopped being afraid of that forest and walked calmly there. One day she met the ruler of that place. His name is Aburzuy.

Aburzuy is something like satan or aid. He is the higher creature, rules hell (that forest in Tiatara’s dreams is actually hell). Hell has two sections. One for dead sinners, second for halfdemons.

Halfdemons are creatures made by Aburzuy based on dead persons. Halfdemons are like zombies but they are consious and have personality. Their personality is combination of dead person’s traits and new traits added by Aburzuy to make them creepy and ‘evil’.

The stone that Tiatara found is called “demonic stone” and it’s used to create halfdemons. Halfdemons use dead body of the person they are based on. Aburzuy modificates the body too to make it creepy.

Severus Snake is alive halfdemon. He is based on Severus Snape, but he is not Snape.

Aburzuy told Tiatara about the use of her stone. One day she found Snape’s body and decided to turn him into halfdemon. She wanted him to be her tool for usurpation of Equestria ponies. She observed him for weeks, and after he returned from Malfoys, Tiatara saw strange changes in him. Snake was sad. So she decided to manipulate him.

Tiatara started talking with him. He said that he is upset about Harry not liking him. So Tiatara began to manipulate him by pretending to be his real friend and saying that she loves and needs him. She also told Snake that she brought him back to life and told his that he is halfdemon. Snake agreed to go to another world and kill, torture and eat lots of stranger ponies there.

P.S. I never tortured myself that much while writing something

Dealbreaker - Redux：　「As being a remake of one of the artist's prior songs, it shows her substantial growth as a musician. It has great vocals and melodies, and feels like a song most normal listeners would enjoy. The best part is that it is actually very unique and creative retelling of a scene from mlp, both lifting up its source material whilst also demonstrating how truly beautiful fan music can be.」

In the future, I want there to be like, a Cookie Run holiday story that’s their retelling of A Christmas Carol, but it’s something like what MLP did with their telling of A Christmas Carol, where all the characters (except maybe the main one and other notable characters so that they can release new Cookies) are actually played by other characters in the series. Specifically I want the Ancient Cookies as the Christmas ghosts

You could have Pure Vanilla as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Hollyberry as Christmas Present, and Dark Cacao as Christmas Future

Not sure what you’d do with Golden Cheese and White Lily though. Maybe you could pair them up with others, like White Lily with Pure Vanilla (given their shared past is a big plot point) and Golden Cheese with Hollyberry (because I dunno I feel like it’s the only one she would fit). Or I suppose you could make one Scrooge and the other his old ghost friend?

I also don’t know what the explanation for this would be. You could do what MLP did and just have it be because it’s a story being told, where all the characters in the story are technically their own characters, but they’re being represented by pre-existing ones? Or possibly the ghosts have forms that would be incomprehensible to normal Cookies, so they took on the forms of the Ancients so that our Scrooge stand-in could see them? Not sure why they’d choose them, maybe the protagonist has a fascination with the legendary heroes. Or it’s a play they’re putting on and these are the actual Ancients playing their parts (a la the first MLP Christmas story they had)? Though I’m not sure you’d get Dark Cacao to agree to be part of a play; the other two sure, but not him. Though maybe he would

Back to the comics, and to the first issue.

2022 was the 10th Anniversary of IDW’s My Little Pony Comics. To celebrate it, they have reprinted the first issue of the comic. And since I reviewed it already with the rest of the storyline I don’t believe I will repeat it. But luckily for us there is more than just a reprint. There’s an additional story taking place after the events of Season 9 (because I don’t buy their Season 10 comics being the true continuation)...

So this story starts off with Adult Spike telling one of the comic stories at a Meet and Greet. So according to the comics, Spike wrote all these comics. I like the idea that since he was so interested in comics he would get into making them. So with that in mind, it is currently implied that the comics are Spike retelling the events he’s been through (or heard about) and retold them in the form of comics.

But then Plot Device (a name I give to a Strawman) begins to complain about continuity. While I have made similar criticisms, I’m hopefully not the absolutist as this guy is. I know the fact that these guys don’t have the same access to the main plot as the actual show runners. So as much as I have complained about continuity not matching up, it really isn’t the big point this person is making it out to be. Like I’m pretty sure Siege of the Crystal Empire is a bad story even if Sombra never did come back. And the Friends Forever comic with Trixie and Rarity being bad was more about the development the comic itself made for Trixie being forgotten.

So Spike revealed he had the idea to turn his stories into comics two years after Twilight and Spike moved to Ponyville, so he was writing it as it was happening. But since he couldn't see the future, gaps had to be filled when he could. Like how Starswirl first defeated the Sirens according to IDW in Fiends Forever Vs how it was shown in the show (and then in more details in the comics). And Spike makes a good point: at the end of the day, you’re just trying to tell a good story. If you have to do something to make it good, try to do so. If it works then it was worth it.

But I totally disagree with this pony. Season 9 Sombra is the best Sombra! He’s less Anakin and more Superman 2 Zod. And because this is a writer venting, the audience agrees with Spike’s side. And the host of the event still enjoyed his “Party Canon” even if they weren’t true. And it has a nice message about that: “it may not be canon but it gives you more of what you love”. When IDW does that, I think it’s the best.

Thing is what I love differs from others. I’ve seen people enjoy the more Adventure Side of MLP but I’m a Slice of Life guy for this series. So if I were to get more stories letting us know things about the characters the show wouldn’t tell, I definitely enjoy it more. Like the Season 10 comics, I wasn’t a fan of the overarching story because it introduced so many new characters that they expected me to like. 5 from Zecora’s homeland, 4 new cats, 6 dogs, 5 birds, and 6 villains who only show up in two comics. Now compare that to the comics that are building up to the Cheese/Pinkie future that I love. Which do you think I’m more invested in?

And 2022 ends with being the best years in recent history for me as not only is Sticks the Badger back in the Sonic Franchise, but Mina the Dragon returns after who knows how long. With it ending that all those stories are true in a certain way. Overall, ignoring Plot Device, it is a nice story to celebrate the 10th Anniversary.
