What are modern plants that look at least a bit similar to plants in the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous period? Something my character can place amid their dinosaur models. Size doesn't matter, the dinos aren't even scaled the same.

Alright so, leaving out the time periods anyone who’s looking for plants that have been around since ancient times, in general, are ferns and Ginko bilobas. There are more of course, but anyone who is looking for something rather generic can’t really go wrong with that for their story. And moss. Moss is also really, really old. Below is a small list of really old plants and the estimates of how far they date back. I hope you find this helpful.

Agithas – conifers that date back to the Carboniferous era (358.9 – 289.9 million years ago)

Cycads – not only would they look the part, they also date back about 280 million years

Equisetum (horsetails) – have fossils that date back about 300 million years

ferns –

Ginko biloba – has been found dating back to the Permian period (270 million years ago)

Japanese umbrella pine – goes back 230 million years

moss – super old, it’s been around for about 470 million years

water caltrops – dates back to Cretaceous (~145 million years ago)

Welwitschia – desert plants which go back to about the same period (~ 100-145 million years)

Wollemia – a tree that goes back 200 million years

For their smaller models’ ferns, equisetums and moss would be a good choice for your character since all come in handy sizes.

Status: Extinct

Time and Place: Between 88 and 86 million years ago, in the Coniacian of the Late Cretaceous 

Notocolossus is known from the Plottier Formation of Argentina 

Physical Description: Notocolossus was a giant titanosaur, the group of dinosaurs that contains the largest land animals and most of the sauropods of the Cretaceous period. Like other titanosaurs, Notocolossus had a long thin neck, shorter (but still thin) tail, and extremely round stomach. I tend to describe titanosaurs to people on my tours as Bowling Balls with a noodle on either end, and Notocolossus would have followed that pattern. It probably was more than 25 meters in length, and it weighed as much as 60.4 tonnes. It had pillar-like feet - the front limbs had no toes whatsoever, essentially rendering them into columns; the back feet were reducing their toes as well, turning them into more column-like than ancestral sauropod feet. It had strong legs in addition to the sturdy feet, to help them stay upright with their extensive weight. The vertebrae were well fortified, to help to keep the animal supported. It would have been entirely scaly, and possibly had interesting color patterns for display to other members of the herd.

Diet: As a large titanosaur, Notocolossus would have primarily fed upon high levels of vegetation, especially upper levels of trees.

Behavior: Notocolossus appears to have been very common in its ecosystem, and thus it was probably a herding animal. These herds would spend most of their time scouring the open landscape for food, searching for plants and trees to feed on. They’d strip the plants of their leaves, and let them digest and break down in their stomachs over long periods of time. Being so large, Notocolossus probably didn’t have to defend itself from predators much; younger members of the herd and older members would have been vulnerable, but in general they were too big to be preyed upon. They were fairly active, being powered by a weird mixture of gigantothermy (body temperature maintained through size) and endothermy (body temperature maintained through one’s own energy); however, it seems unlikely that they took care of their young, given their body size and the nesting mod of other titanosaurs. That doesn’t mean it is certain either way, but it seems likely that they laid the eggs, and the surviving young only joined when they were big enough to keep up with the herd.

Ecosystem: The Plottier formation was an extremely large, semi-arid floodplain, with meandering rivers flowing through the area. These rivers sometimes swelled up, but were often very meager indeed, especially during the dry seasons. This lead to the ecosystem being filled with drier sediment - sand and red dirt - rather than mud. Still, plantlife was present here, including mosses, ferns, cycads, and lichens. It is even possible that some flowering plants were present. This environment was fairly lousy with titanosaurs - Petrobrasaurus, Muyelensaurus, and “Antarctosaurus” were all present, though Notocolossus was the most common of them. So, clearly, there were enough plants in the area for all of these animals to find food. Crocodylomorphs, predatory dinosaurs, and potential fish-eating raptors were present too, though none have been named. Many turtles also lived in this environment.

Other: Notocolossus is especially important because it actually preserved the foot bones, which is not common for titanosaurs; these foot bones show that the hindlimbs were especially adapted for holding up the large weight of the titanosaurs. The hands reduced their fingers and essentially became pillars, while the feet (hind limbs) also reduced the toe claws and compacted the toes themselves for better ability to support the weight. Notocolossus appears to have been closely related to other giant titanosaurs such as Patagotitan and Puertasaurus.

They raised a kid together and he was the best dragon ever, they've been there for the other at their lowest and even when no one else believed them, they have been through grief and healing together, they would go through Hell for the other.

They are canonically platonic partners, Jaiden is Aroace and Roier has a husband (outside of the QPR) and had a wonderful son (egg), Bobby. Even when they were lawyers on opposing sides of a court case, afterwards they complimented each other on how they did during the case. On top of that, Jaiden threatened Roier's husband Cellbit before their marriage, telling him that if he hurt Roier she would hunt him down, and telling him to be honest to Roier. They are the greatest <3

Q! and cc!Jaiden is aroace and q!roier is queer. They were selected to be a pair to raise a child who they named Bobby. Jaiden moved into roier's home, had their beds next to each other, they raised bobby together, went on adventures together. Jaiden and roier loved each other and called each other family. When people asked if they were together they both said no but they were partners. Jaiden was extremely supportive of roier's cross dressing and him working at a strip club. Roier helped her practice her fighting skills. When roier became romantically interested in another character nothing between them changed and Jaiden threatened the other character to never hurt roier. Bobby died and they mourned and Jaiden moved away but they were still very close and visit each other often and roier keeps an eye on her interactions with a federation worker called cucurucho to make sure it doesn't hurt her. They are literally the perfect example of a qpr; living together, expressing their love for each other, raising a child together but never being romantically involved and being such a unit together and everyone on the island knows it and loves them too.

its like halfway canon that theyre in a QPR, they raise a child together and sleep next to each other and are basically life partners. jaiden supports roiers other relationships, and they actually support and communicate with each other and its great

They’re mutually supportive and care about each other so deeply. They’ve been through the loss of their son together and have continued to wholeheartedly mutually support and protect each other.

canonically a family unit but not in the nuclear way (they both parent a child, but they are not in a romantic relationship nor a couple, nor did either of them create this child). this platonic relationship is treated equally to one of the character's romantic relationships and is not seen as 'less' than the romantic one. it is expressed multiple times throughout the series how important this platonic relationship is.

They co-parented their adopted kid together for a while and were acknowledged by pretty much everyone as the best parents, and now that Roier is married, his husband treats him and jaiden with just as much respect as she does their marriage,,,, which means a lot to me personally <3

They have directly referred themselves as platonic partners multiple time throughout their time together. Despite the fact that Q!Roier is married to another character, his relationship with Q!Jaiden is never dismissed and is held at the same importance as his romantic relationship.

c!Slime is like a 1000 year old slime who poorly disguised himself as human and c!Quackity is a ruthless capitalist leader of not!Las Vegas who taught him how to be human like if that’s not peak dynamics I don’t know what is. c!Quackity is a manipulative shit and he helped c!Slime for his own good initially but eventually grew close enough to him to basically make him his second in command, and c!Slime did sorta throw him from a building for the manipulation stuff but they were meant to reconcile before the fucking mess of a finale ruined everything. I went to catholic school and agree with this there's emphasis on mary being the only one to understand jesus, even better than his closest disciples (peter, judas) and there's an bond between them that's beyond friendship but they're not romantic

As someone who likes homestuck and knows nothing about dsmp, I'd like to remind fellow homestucks that Dream makes close to nothing from canon DSMP content and as far as I know most of the members don't associate themselves with him and his goons, while Hussie does still make earnings from homestuck consumption and he is also not that great a guy, to say the least

Genuine question, do the bible submissions go in the real people category or the character category?

well. i (mod cycad) am christian. i believe they were real people who existed, and in one case died and got better. but they’re also definitely characters in a story, is the thing, and i know that not everyone agrees with me on the real people bit. idk man this is a good question. id say for the purposes of this poll they’re real people in the same way that the hamilton characters were all real people but also characters in a play by lin manuel miranda
