Anyone out there who would be interested in a console hacking, modding, and homebrew community? I've been modding consoles for 2 years. I originally was gonna make a Wii U one but I want to include as many people and consoles as I can! I'm looking for people who may be interested.

Welcome to Strangetown! by EstavaConfuso (The Sims 3)
Truth-seekers move to Strangetown hoping to discover the secrets the town holds. Do aliens live among us? Do missing Sims mysteriously appear here? In this town nothing is what it seems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
About
Strangetown is one of the oficial neighborhoods of The Sims 2. It appeared in the base game (PC) but it was also featured in The Sims 2 spin-offs: PSP, GBA, DS and console. My purpose in creating this world was to include all versions of Strangetown from all games it appeared in in a single world. I tried to be as accurate as possible to the different versions, as well as trying to keep the correct layout of the different places. Of course, it's impossible to have an 100% perfect replica, but I hope you can identify them in the game.
World
Considering that The Sims 2 was released in 2004, this world is supposedly set in the mid 2000s. The world consists of 101 lots in total: 49 residential lots (18 inhabited and 31 unhabited), 44 community lots and 8 empty lots. The world map is a variation of Lucky Palms height map (although you don't need Lucky Palms installed to work).
Size: Large.
Population: Populated. Features several townies from the different games (PC, PSP, DS, console, GBA). The original Strangetown families have complete family trees.
 CC: Included.
Required expansions: All (World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life, Island Paradise and Into the Future).
 Required stuff packs: None.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Download
The .rar file has a folder called “Strangetown package objects”, which should be placed in the game's Packages folder (Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages), and a .sims3pack file, which is the world itself, and should be placed in the game's Downloads folder (Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads) and be downloaded via launcher. You need to put both the .sims3pack file and the packages folder into your game.

For like, the past decade and a half I have found that any time I got a new games console I would try to work up the same kind of excitement I had when getting new consoles as a kid like the gamecube, ds and psp, and consistently what happened ever time was that I'd buy it, try to work up enthusiasm for it and actually keep up with new releases and get involved in modern gaming communities, but then inevitably every time I'd barely play any of the games I get for it since they just didn't grab me, and then inevitably I'd just sell the console to buy more retro games. this happened with 3ds, new 3ds, ps4, wii u and switch.
It took me ENTIRELY too long to realise that pc gaming was what I needed to get back into playing more modern games. I just assumed I wouldn't like pc gaming without trying it fully because I was specifically trying to recapture, again, excitement I got from consoles, and also pc gamers being pc gamers (the unironic "master race" fuckers) turning me off with their usual selling points of just "4k 180fps and no visible polygon edges", which makes it come off like you need overkill $2000+ gaming rigs capable of that kind of thing to actually experience the advantages of pc gaming
That isn't the case at all! you can build a computer for cheaper than next-gen consoles that is able to run lots of modern games at 60fps and 1080p. If you can settle for 30fps you can go even cheaper. You don't even need to buy a windows license anymore since Linux is free and its compatibility with windows software has gotten so good. If building a PC yourself is intimidating you could do what I did; buy a cheap OEM (pre-made) second hand desktop computer for cheap, like sub-$100 cheap, and use that to experiment with learning how to upgrade CPUs, gpus and ram. Using an old win7 HP desktop computer I bought for under $50, I managed to get it running doom 2016 at 30fps just by adding a new graphics card and CPU. doing it this way let me learn more about PC components so that when it was time for me to take the plunge and build my own PC from scratch I knew what I was doing. start cheap, and then if you discover that you need more powerful parts to run stuff you actually want to play, then you can start upgrading. There's no need to buy the highest end graphics card if a low-mid tier graphics card is already running everything smoothly after all. Just recently I built my girlfriend her own PC and managed to keep the price to around $500 (new zealand currency to be clear, which is like $300 USD). It was enough to run saga emerald beyond at 60fps which I was really happy with, but it did end up at around 30fps in other games like god eater 3, so we got a new graphics card once we could afford it.
And even with a cheap computer you can still experience a lot of what makes PC gaming so much fun. Indie games generally aren't demanding on hardware and there's far more of them on PC than there are on consoles. Indie games are genuinely some of the best modern games out there, frequently outdoing the AAA developers in lasting replay value and fun. plus, even the ones on consoles are better on PC thanks to extra features and content like mods, level editors and so on. there's also mouse and keyboard often being a more natural fit for game genres such as strategy and simulation games (I feel the same way about first person shooters as well but your mileage may vary there. Oh yeah also definitely play doom mods, they're awesome). Even if you're not into mouse and keyboard controls (I do really recommend practicing with it though! the speed and precision a mouse gives you is amazing), you'll still have a ton more controller options available on PC since basically anything that can be connected through USB or Bluetooth can be used. You also get access to fan made ports and remakes of classic games, all with their own mods and user made content, plus a ton of amazingly high quality standalone fan games (dr robotnik's ring racers is a recent fave of mine). You also have MUCH better access to older games on PC. You can be assured that stuff from the PS3 era will work superbly on modern PCs, and even a lot of 90s games work well out of the box on linux without needing to jump through hoops, in contrast to not even being able to play PS3 games on PS4. There's SO many cool aspects of modern gaming you can only experience on PC and it's not just playing microtransaction laden AAA games with marginally better graphics than on consoles.
This was meant to be about my disinterest in the switch 2 (not to say I think it'll be awful, I haven't looked enough into it, but I've already got my modern gaming covered by my computer unless some especially good exclusives win me over) but I got sidetracked and I just ended up gushing about how much i love computers oops

I recently picked up a PSP-1000 and I absolutely love it!!! It came pre-modded with CFW so all I needed to do was add ROMs and stuff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s pretty capable at emulation - although I’d recommend going with emulators that aren’t retroarch, as retroarch had much worse performance overall, especially on SNES games, and would crash the system when trying to load GBA games. A pleasant surprise was that CPS2 emulation was workable.
It came with a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo that I intend to upgrade and, once I do, I could easily see this becoming an MP3 player as well, as the battery holds a good amount of charge still.
On top of everything else - I get to finally start a a series I’ve wanted to start for so long, but haven’t had the hardware to do it (I could always emulate, but i really wanted the feeling of holding the console in my hands when playing it)

i've been getting into retro game emulation for a while now and i'm finally breaking into the console hacking/homebrew scene. i just finished an easy 3ds hack and it was really fun and i'm super excited to use it.
my family also has an old psp i forgot about that apparently doesn't read its discs anymore, which makes it the perfect next target. i'll hack it and give it back to my siblings because i'm trying to get them into older games too, and our family doesn't have the money for a lot of games and consoles.
i think my next next target is a wii. the wii was the console i actually grew up playing and using and even though we barely had any games, i loved playing wii sports, the original loz, and the original super mario and mario 3. i want to homebrew it partially because i would like to replay skyward sword and it's a bitch to emulate. way above my paygrade. i'm also looking into how well the wii supports gamecube emulation, because i've been trying to get one of my siblings into twilight princess but it keeps crashing on our family pc [which is a piece of junk only good for web browsing]. i think she also wants to play wind waker.
so basically i'd mod the wii and let her borrow it to play certain games.

I'm playing The Force Unleashed… for Nintendo Switch.
You would think it was a port of the Xbox 360 version, like how the PC port is, but actually, no - It's the first ever attempt to port the Wii version.
Tumblr media
The Wii and PS2 version of Force Unleashes is a different beast to the Xbox 360 game. The "last gen consoles", as they were at the time, didn't have the graphical capabilities of the 360 and PS3, so they had their own special game.
What makes this earlier gen version of the game special is how different it is. The opening mission on Kashyyk is at night instead of day, the ship operates as a hubworld in itself, there are lots of missions that were missing from the 360 version, there are some missions NOT in this version, and there is a Multiplayer Versus Mode.
It also used motion controls, specifically on the Wii version. This made the game a bit easier than the PS2 version with its unforgiving button commands.
I have turned off the Switch motion controls for now, because they are not nearly as smooth as the laser pointer Wii controls were back in the day. Also I am no longer 12 years old.
The company responsible for the Wii version also did this Switch port. They added some HD textures onto the SD models. I think that this has the weird effect of making some characters like Darth Vader too shiny, but there's nothing outrageous about it. At least they didn't do a FF10 and replace all the models with poorly designed HD versions.
Tumblr media
The game has much clunkier combat than its Xbox 360 counterpart, but The Force Unleashed was never a 10 out of 10 game anyway. It looked absolutely gorgeous at the time, and still looks nice, but if you replay the HD version today you can see most of the issues.
The story has a higher reception on the Wii version, which is probably why this Switch port is worth a visit if you haven't played the game in a long time.
The definitive edition might actually be the PSP port, which had everything from the Wii version, as well as special cinematic missions from the star wars universe where you could play as Anakin vs Dooku, and some special challenge modes.
Tumblr media
It's not likely you'll find a PSP to play this on, so it might be worth emulating the game. Especially if you have a steamdeck or a modded PS Vita. It might be one of the best PSP ports of all time, since that console usually got inferior versions of games.
For now, I'll use the switch version to scratch my itch.
