#console hacking

Anyone out there who would be interested in a console hacking, modding, and homebrew community? I've been modding consoles for 2 years. I originally was gonna make a Wii U one but I want to include as many people and consoles as I can! I'm looking for people who may be interested.

i've been getting into retro game emulation for a while now and i'm finally breaking into the console hacking/homebrew scene. i just finished an easy 3ds hack and it was really fun and i'm super excited to use it.

my family also has an old psp i forgot about that apparently doesn't read its discs anymore, which makes it the perfect next target. i'll hack it and give it back to my siblings because i'm trying to get them into older games too, and our family doesn't have the money for a lot of games and consoles.

i think my next next target is a wii. the wii was the console i actually grew up playing and using and even though we barely had any games, i loved playing wii sports, the original loz, and the original super mario and mario 3. i want to homebrew it partially because i would like to replay skyward sword and it's a bitch to emulate. way above my paygrade. i'm also looking into how well the wii supports gamecube emulation, because i've been trying to get one of my siblings into twilight princess but it keeps crashing on our family pc [which is a piece of junk only good for web browsing]. i think she also wants to play wind waker.

so basically i'd mod the wii and let her borrow it to play certain games.

Saw this video of what may be a rom hack of PS1 Doom or something with its own levels and assets.

The Imps are the Quake enforcers and there's a door that's literally a photo of some female model.

Just thought it was weird.

(thinking about prev reblog) i have so many thoughts about the switch 2 and piracy and emulation and how so many people just do not understand how it works and that it is so much more difficult than people will make it seem but im tired and i dont want to type all that so you guys will have to wait for the morning for this rant because this is something i think a lot about

FreePSXBoot - finally we have a way to launch PS1 games on CD-Rs without modchips or disc swapping! It's not quite as powerful as FreeMCBoot for PS2, but it's still letting me play so many games I've always been curious about

if u ever need help setting up emulators or some shit, feel free to ask. pcsx2 in particular seems really scary and if you've only used older versions of it, it probably still seems so but it's had a huge user overhaul to put it more in-line with something like duckstation and is very easy to set up these days + if you need stuff language patched there's so many easy to use tools made by folks who've put the work in in their spare time. Don't be scared off by the process, emulation is well worth it

Playing 3DS games after having seen the overall fandom response to release and long-term impact and the way it's looked back on and such is... bizarre, honestly? Like, maybe it's just because we got our introduction to gaming in the 3DS era, but it's incredibly strange to know that games we knew and loved and would have considered relatively mainstream just... didn't stick in people's minds.

Like, take the Gen 6 Pokemon games. Those were great games! One of the single things about X/Y/OR/AS that we don't see people talking about but that stuck in our mind was how the developers made an effort to make it so that every single Pokemon in the games prior was spread between just those four games! We remember that just the sheer variety of potential Pokemon available was enough to get us a start into challenge runs simply by virtue of how much variety could be added to a playthrough by the sheer amount of potential on offer!

We remember spending hours just... hunting around the region to figure out where those last Pokemon we needed to fill the 'dex were, wandering around to try and find Hidden Ability pokemon from Horde battles, getting to actually interact with our Pokemon in Pokemon Amie.

Yeah, there were more obscure games out there, and yeah, they impacted us as well - Pocket Card Jockey stands out in this regard, as an extremely fun game that we're pretty sure was played by maybe three people, maximum, but it's not quite the same. These were games that we played ourself! These were games we saw other people playing, that we played with people over the internet, that felt like they were well-known! We were under the impression that these were mainstream interests, not Niche! it feels... singularly bizarre to realize that, for the majority of people out there, this game was a forgettable disappointment.
