He has forsaken Lord Mohg's soul. He desires only his empty shell. It beggars belief, but… I'm afraid Tender Miquella fails to grasp the humiliation implied by this act.
One thing is certain. My dear lord deserved better.

[Elden Ring DLC spoilers] sir Ansbach, what an absolute CHAD.
[MAJOR SPOILERS]
.
]
Tumblr media
one thing Shadow of the Erdtree did was write a delicuously hatable villians, and the assorted heroes to rally against it.
stayed loyal to the end to Mohg Mogh, pierced through Miquella's deception, and even challenged her, trying to Free Mohg from his Brainwashing.
he even forgives us for killing Mohg given the situation.
and he follows us in to fight against the god that ruined everything.
what would have made it even better is if Morgott, or at least using a margit projection, also went in to avenge his brother.
"Lord Mohg will have his Dignity".
damn that's a raw line. I used to actually dislike mohg, genuinely. I admittedly also disliked his fanbase that flanderized his gross actions. And even after this, it's a toxic blood cult, but taking Ansbach's actions alone.....PURE CHAD.
like his brother, the Omen twins deserved Better!
damn.

Sir Ansbach from Shadow of the Erdtree. Every time he talked about Mohg, my heart broke for them both.

Tonic in a small brass vial. Banishes distress and bitter memories.  A gift bestowed by Rykard, sworn to blasphemy, to Lady Tanith, who unfortunately had no use for it. "My Lord, there could be no greater distress than to forget you."
... Truly, there has been no greater distress for a Pureblood Knight like Ansbach, to have forgotten his loyalty to Mohg...
im glad yall are loving my mohg/ansbach posts so here have another
ansbach is not a blindly devoted follower. he is mohg's knight. we know how powerful mohg is, and who knows, he may have actually been even more powerful before miquella's enchantment. we never see him pre-enchantment after all
Tumblr media
"Once, in an attempt to free Lord Mohg from his enchantment, I challenged Tender Miquella, only to have my own heart rather artfully stolen."
yet as mohg's knight, he still tried desperately to fight for his lord's freedom, even going so far as to challenge miquella directly-
Tumblr media
sorry. his dear lord's freedom
the only thing this says to me is that ansbach is loyal but not deluded or blinded by it. ansbach was more than willing to throw down, but miquella basically said "nuh uh. potion of you forget how to fight and now you view yourself as nothing more than a feeble old man"
but in the end, ansbach overcomes that. he becomes a summon in the final fight of the dlc, against consort radahn and thus miquella by extension
Tumblr media
upon entering the final boss arena, ansbach addresses radahn and miquella directly, "General Radahn. A pleasure to see you, after all this time. But those remains do not belong to you. Lord Mohg will have his dignity."
im just obsessed with this old man yaoi.... the whole lord x knight, the blatant softness whenever ansbach talks about mohg, "dear lord", fighting for him even after death to restore his honour....... im frothing at the mouth over them
and because of all this, ansbach strikes me as the type of knight to see mohg at not only his best but also his worst. my hc is like. with how gently he speaks of mohg, how he talks like he saw even the slightest change in behaviour in his lord... he probably saw mohg and helped him through these moments of depression, mania, or lashing out
i can see ansbach making mohg go lie down in his nest and then later brings him some water and a good meal, but mohg does not see a single hint of judgment in ansbach's eyes. it's just understanding. maybe the deliveries of food eventually include feather preening or reading together... uwaaaah

"Mohg's not innocent he runs a murder cult and kills people"... NO. Imagine your mother the God was racist against you, and made the world racist against you too. Imagine your father a glorious Elden Lord failed to do anything about it. Imagine you were locked away in the literal sewers since birth, you grew up eating shit and mice and snails full of piss that your blood was so poisoned that you coughed up balls of shit. Imagine they made baby shackles for you that pinned you down and grew with your body so that they could hopefully confine you for eternity. Imagine you were in pain day and night because your deformity grew under your skin into your bones pierced your eye drilled into your skull. Imagine despite all above you were considered super lucky among your peers because at least they didn't remove your body parts before dumping you here. Imagine even if you were freed from the prison anyone could hunt you down and torture you with no repercussions. Imagine the whole world knew but did absolutely nothing about it. Imagine your brothers and sisters were worshiped and loved because they were deemed a better race and they said "why couldn't you be more like them". Imagine there would never be justice for you, as your whole existence was a punishable crime. Imagine there would never be relief for you, as you couldn't even just die to escape this hell.
Really, imagine it was you who had been through all of this, and you tell me you still feel so righteous judging him for "not being innocent". You know those comic book villains who are like "I've suffered so much I lost my loved ones I want revenge and destroy earth and everyone on it". That should have been Mohg. He should have wanted to literally burn every single atom down across these filthy lands and they would have deserved it. But he didn't. Not only that he and his omen twin brother even sealed off the frenzied flame that actually had the ability to do so. Be grateful he is only running a murder cult and spilling some blood here and there. He is a fucking Saint for after all that he still wants to establish something instead of bringing down vengeance on every living soul. GIVE HIM A FUCKING BREAK.
"Ansbach was so biased" well the whole society in the lands between was biased against omens but did you ever hold Gideon the butcher of whole albinauric village's speculation about Mohg to the same standards? SIR Ansbach was a fucking hero for having sided with him.

When it comes to Morgott we all can agree he is just build... different✨ (that shoulders five times his head *shivers*) So there are some of my thoughts if u wanna read them because they kinda explain my take on him in this drawing lol
I was thinking recently more about his fur and how it looks on his body. It's patchy, It looks rough and uneven... Even his tail when you look closer, It's shape is more defined by the muscles rather than the hair on it. Every artist drawing him gives him much more fluff and I truly think it's well deserved. And from the game design/lore perspective it's completely understandable. He is made to look grotesque, deformed, aged and ugly even... That's all intended... BUT!
I was thinking... What if it's mostly just lack of... maintenance? Lack of care. Malnourishment and neglect of a kind? We know that the Erdtree has a kind of sickening effects on Omens as well. Mohg is for sure holding up much better and I kind of don't believe they would be so much different from eachother (the influence of Formless Mother on Mohgs looks is after all not entirely known). He has more pride in himself and so he carries himself better than his brother that is still loyal and so close to the Golden Order. Mohg took his chance at getting away from the Erdtree and I think it is obvious that this freedom did him some good. I personally belive that Morgott could also achive such change if it wasn't for his deep rooted loyality to the Order and crippling self-resentment.
So to sum my thoughts up... What if he's just not thriving?
Just imagine this kind of idealistic scenario when he can finally put his needs first. When he can take care of himself or let others care for him. He puts on some more weight, rounding up his already muscular body giving it softer, healthier look. His furr thickens and follows up to the rest of his body not just limbs (could be just as thick as the rest or more like a soft fuzz maybe idk). His posture straightens, as with healthy body comes healthy mind. Of course, he is still an old man at the end of it. The years made their mark on his features and some of them are irreversable. But he is healing~
And I personaly love imaginging him in this healing state that unfortuntly is impossible to get in game. But game is game and fan work is fan work. And in my tiny rotten brain I give him little forehead kisses and tell him how precious he is uwu

as surprising as it is that radahn ended up as miquella’s chosen consort, i’m just as surprised that it isn’t messmer. his character seems perfectly molded for that role in the story. he’s abandoned and forgotten, yearning for above all else the warmth and love of a lost mother (who miquella looks like). as a result he’s a bitter husk in an endless war to match his endless exile. so it would be interesting to actually explore miquella’s character by him granting mercy and compassion to even messmer. to break through his shell and rekindle hope. to finally stop the unceasing war in the lands of shadow. to recognize him as another person left to rot in the shadow of the golden order.
it would even be interesting for miquella to attempt this and fail. perhaps messmer carries on his crusade but in miquella’s name instead. malenia played the role of protector and general for miquella, but if she’s dead what does it mean for messmer to take that role? does messmer even deserve compassion or redemption at this point? what about justice for the people of the lands of shadow? can even a god of compassion transcend history? there are so many better ways to explore miquella and his journey to either break the cycle or be trapped in it. over the course of the DLC we could see their story, to a final point where either miquella is doomed by messmer or messmer is saved by miquella. or maybe both.
it’s also funny cause mohg would inadvertently have delivered his maternal replacement figure to someone else who needed one

Been learning a bit of Elden Ring lore as of late, and I gotta say:
Kinda a fan of Mohg the Lord of Blood
The entitlement, the spite, the unabashed enthusiasm.
Guy spent his formative years lock away in a sewer because his mother despised his cursed blood, spared from death only for his noble lineage. And then what does he do?
He rejects that lineage and The Greater will that supports it entirely. He finds his OWN god, turns his “cursed blood” into a weapon that he can wield, and leaves to go make his own stupid cult.
He was screwed out of his chance at royalty so he makes himself a lord in of itself. AND he gets absolutely dripped out doing so. The fashion!
Again this guy grew up in a sewer, his twin brother who was in the same situation doesn’t even have pants. Where the hell did he get his outfit? Did he commission it himself???
Either way he is absolutely killing it (teehee) and living the kind of life he had been denied before.
He’s divorced himself from his roots so far as to begin to rewrite his own history- right down to his own royal blood relations. A family-a DYNASTY that belongs to him alone.
Shame his autonomy was once more stripped away and his identity buried as to not distract from his greater, more noble siblings. Even in death, he can only ever be his family’s shameful secret.
Rest well king, you were a vile murdering bastard but you did deserve better, and I think you knew that.

For everyone saying "Mohg was a grooming mass murderer before Miquella and naturally interested in him":
No, he wasn't.
The truth is, we don't know who Mohg was before the Mohgwyn Dynasty but the new context indicates that he wasn't that terrible, as people make him out to be. All we do know about him from in-game texts centers around his planned reign with Miquella.
Therefore everything in the game that refers to Mohg and his Dynasty is directly intertwined with Miquella's enchantment. Miquella is the whole reason his bloody fingers are running around, murdering people, to drench his cocoon in blood, so he can divest himself of his flesh and use Mohg and his connections to the Formless Mother as an entrance to the Land's of Shadow. (And later, his corpse as a perfect vessel)
If Mohg was so much into all of this, why didn't they just make a deal, like he did with Radahn? (If Radahn agreed or not idk, but it does indicate that Miquella does make deals/vows if it serves him)
Why not ask Mohg for a similar deal if he was such a power hungry leader filled with bloodlust? "Yo bro, I heard you like spilling blood with your murder cult, wanna have even more power and legitimate your claims by taking me as a consort?" is all he needed to ask. If Mohg was so power hungry, there'd be no way he turned the offer down.
Why go through the hassle and enchant him and his close followers like Ansbach (who would have 100% called bullshit, if he saw that Mohg acted differently, considering his whole personality)? Because Miquella couldn' t be sure that Mohg would've agreed to do all the things he has done, as the head of the Mohgwyn Dynasty. Ansbach's Pureblood-Knight medal also seems to have another shape, which too suggests a change in the meaning of this occupation, since our Pureblood-Knight medal looks faaairly different.
As I said, WE DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE, who Mohg was before the Mohgwyn Dynasty with Miquella. We only have the clues that he wasn't that much of a deranged power-hungry, mad man filled with bloodlust, as we thought he was. If he was such a terrible person we didn't had people like Ansbach, daring to challenge a fucking God, just to avange him. All we know is that he had to be quite the personality and leader for having so loyal followers. He probably always was a little eccentric and crazy from the get go but not as far as terrible as Miquella made him out to be.
Idk I'm just so tired of people still shitting on Mohg, despite having played the DLC, when he was clearly abused and defiled for years, he didn't fucking deserve this and it makes me so sad. Like Ansbach said "My dear lord deserved better"

of course, Ansbach’s “My dear Lord deserved better.” Line is stellar shipping fodder. But imo in SOTE’s story, it’s meant to parallel Ymir’s statement about Miquella:
“Ever-young Miquella saw things for what they were. He knew that his bloodline was tainted. His roots mired in madness. A tragedy if ever there was one. That he would feel compelled to renounce everything. When the blame... lay squarely with the mother.”
Ansbach’s statement is one of personal grief and anger at Miquella. But it’s also a nod to how both Mohg and Miquella devoted their whole lives to usurping Marika or surpassing her. It began when Marika cast Mohg into the Shunning Grounds as a bairn. It began when Miquella was burdened with the responsibility of righting his mother’s wrongs. The old, broken system has its claws in both men- and Ansbach as well- and they will be rent apart on them.
I don’t think it’s an accident that Sir Ansbach is an old man. His entire life was given in service to a Demigod and his Outer God. He loves Mohg, yes, but he’s too entrenched in the nature of things set forth by Marika. He’s ready to do his last act- preserve Mohg’s dignity- then die with his Lord. Passing the torch of remaking the world to younger blood.

DLCs got me having depressing Varré thoughts.
The Mohg he believed in was the same that Ansbach knew and respected. He didn't know Mohg had been bewitched. He would not have died begging Mohg to answer him. He knew the Mohg that was devoted to his dynasty and his people and after years of service to him, when he needed him, he wasnt there and he'll never understand why. I literally cannot even fathom how much that broke him, how betrayed he felt. he's so fucking tragic and so is Mohg. I truly believe that Mohg was the only demigod who had it right. He was so cast aside by the greater will and golden order that he was free of the cycle and their watchful eyes. He found strength in an outer god who didnt care to meddle with the lands between and he fucked off to create his own new dynasty completely hidden from everyone else where any being that had previously been mistreated could go and find power and a home. He only had good intentions
Mohg and Varré and Ansbach deserved better.
