Be careful, Audrey. For you may complete the transformation into a host, and this parasite has a mind of its own…

i have really mixed feelings about tlt lol like i dont think the critiques about how it “sounds like fanfic” are wrong. but also like those are the worst chunks of the book. like all the meme reference pop fiction YA voice chunks suck... tho they are like 70% of the books. but then, it has a few like really fucking flow state good chunks. like the chunks that get away from that “fanfic” voice are really cool!!!
and it makes me wonder like whats the true authors voice here? is the pop fiction AND the weird detailed gore-psychology both legit? is the pop fiction just being lazy/approachable? makes me wanna see what comes after tlt and after tor dot com lol

Hey.
Sometimes, when you're doing things in your place of residence, maybe you're cleaning up in a part of the room that you haven't actively looked at in a literal decade, and you notice something a little unpleasant. And that mystery stain appears to be mold. Lovely.
Sometimes you need to know how to get rid of mold in your residence.
Here's how to get rid of mold in your residence:
Note that this was written with bathrooms in mind, but if you find this mold in, say, your personal bedroom, it should work just as well.
("gee this sounds oddly specific" yeah...yeah)

yknow im just noticing the way mold hosts seem to be eating the environment's mold before they notice you, which suggest that the mold spreads first and the hosts are just following it, instead of my original statement that the hosts were the carrier of the mold !

Love having the thought of like "what if I invited some of my people from theater to come over to my house and smoke and hang out and I could like host a thing" and then I thought about literally any of my peers seeing my weird art and immediately was like no they will think I am insane

You May Not Notice
You may not notice the signs at first, they will be subtle.
You may not notice that the leaves are slow to change.
You may not notice that the flowers are slow to fruit.
You may notice that the fruit grows glossy and beautiful.
You may notice they are slow to rot.
You may notice the fruit is hollow, and tastes of nothing.
You may notice your child is gone (you may not know they stole fruit)
You may have heard tales of those in the woods who steal children.
You may have heard they have perfect skin (glossy and beautiful)
You may go to find your child in the woods.
You may find them (too late to save them or yourself)
You may not notice the mushrooms around them (glossy and beautiful)
You may not notice their skin (glossy and beautiful)
They may resist being brought home.
They may ask you your name.
They may beg and cry (glossy tears like carrots gone bad)
You may try to wipe their tears away.
You may find it makes you hand look odd (glossy and beautiful)
You may find it begins to hurt.
You may find your breath hurts.
Your chest may begin to feel like fire.
You may find yourself trying to scream.
You may find it impossible.
You may die with your child in your arms.
The search party will find you (glossy and beautiful)
(and as empty as the fruit)

infodump about viruses
OK. ok. OK. YAY
so the problem is I know very little about real pathology though I've been planning to start researching it lately. I more just greatly enjoy fucked up fictional viruses and the odd ways they work.. especially super messed up ones like purple haze's and the HYPERINTELLIGENT COLONY ORGANISM FROM PLAGUE LAnd.
they make me spin around I love it so much it's so interesting to think about. horrifying in reality ofcourse but incredibly interesting in concept.. I've adored plague land (book series btw) since I read the first one because. virus that can be spread by skin contact gaining the intelligence of everything it infects because it liquefies and assimilates it.. growing smart enough to send out infectious spores on the wind like snow that infect anybody they touch.. beginning to create genuine organisms based off the ones they consumed until they can create FULLY CONVINCING HORSES AND PEOPLE that infiltrate survival societies and then fucking Implodes and infects everything around it because it OUTSMARTED REAL PEOPLE. I love the way shit like that is done. the specifics of stuff like that especially. it LEARNS.
a while back I read another book too called silver.. which just straight up turns you into feral metal creatures that EVOLVE and become DISGUSTING BEAST CREATURES that are only remnants of the people they used to be. to the point a man who was sane hours before rips out a nurse's throat with his teeth like a fucking animal. I remember that one less I read it so long ago but it's just ughhh.. more sci-fi than natural flesh rebuilding or destruction like some others but it's delightful
PURPLE HAZE TOO. the fast-acting of it and the rapid eating and destruction of flesh to the point of melting and even total consumption (eg in murolo's case)... it reminds me of irl hemorrhagic viruses like tb but on Steroids and the concept of it's awesome.
DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON MAZE RUNNER AND THE FLARE.. LOVE THAT SERIES
that's why zombie and apocalypse movies tend to interest me so much because it tends to be pathology.. amazing
I cant explain it much I just love studying fictional ones and the way they work and the stages of their effects because with the limits of fiction you can come up with alot with knowledge of irl viruses that's just incredible and TERRIFYING because with a bit of suspension of disbelief, it could happen. and I love it. I'm also very fascinated by parasites :))
I love the less dark parts of it too ofc! but because of my similar interests in horror and decomposition the stuff like that appeals to me in particular. the stuff like how they spread makes me go yippee too
