Hey, my SO is looking for a "space" rpg to run, either sci-fi or sci-fantasy, but has no interest in Lancer or other mech based RPGs, playing or running. Figured you might some recommendations, because my personal circles are just saying to convince them to play Lancer.

Yeah to be fair I wouldn't recommend Lancer either as a generic space RPG, because it's very specifically about the mechs.

Anyway, there's a new edition of Starfinder on the horizon and as much as I didn't really enjoy Starfinder 1e a whole lot, seeing as 2e is going to be taking more influence from Pathfinder 2e it at least promises to be a solid, crunchy Pathfinder in space type of deal. Much more in the realm of science fantasy than science fiction of course.

Traveller is another one I heartily recommend. I have only read the first edition of Classic Traveller, but based on what little I know of the current Mongoose edition of it the core gameplay has pretty much stayed the same. Traveller is perfect for hard sci-fi campaigns that sort of get down to the nitty gritty of space travel while still having a bit of whimsy. To me, personally, the perfect mode of play for Traveller is "space truckers."

Oh and apparently Mongoose is slowly rolling out an updated edition of the game and this Merchant's Edition PDF costs all of one dollar.

I could also shout-out the best sci-fi RPG ever made, i.e. Spacemaster, i.e. Rolemaster in space, but I think that might be a bit too much.

Jamie Wild was a character originally created as a trainersona more than a decade ago, who gradually evolved into a character all her own and ended up the protagonist of a yet-unpublished Soul Silver Nuzlocke called Shadowed Soul. In recent years, after these many years of building her character and the Pokemon world around her, I've been wanting to make her completely my own, world and all.

Someday I still hope to tell her Nuzlocke story and keep up with her in the Linden Roots world, but here I will be giving an alternate version of that story--Some elements will remain the same or minimally changed, while some changes will be drastic. So both stories will hold their own merit, when comes time to tell them both. :>

Some notes about this story:

-The setting is the same world as my other story The Matters of Life and Death. So some things, such as staffwyrms and the way magic works, is the same between stories.

-I currently plan to tell it in a slice-of-life manner, probably through mixed means of comic, artworks, answered asks, and potentially writings.

-My aim with this blog and story is to have fun above all else! It's something I feel I shouldn't have to say, but at the same time I also feel I've lost touch with that particular motive. So I'm hoping to remind myself that my art and stories are mine, and are for my entertainment first and foremost.

This is a Sideblog of @loupy-mongoose, telling the Linden Roots story from the setting of Shadegrove--A location made up by me, set in the woods at the very northmost edge of Kanto, close to Cerulean Cave.

This blog is meant to primarily follow the Mewtwo Nicodemus and his Mew mate Jovial, but there are other characters that live in this town as well. So, general Shadegrove shenanigans as my imagination drives me to tell. ^^

Another update on the Bacon Saga

Sorry, I've disappeared off the face of the Earth!!! I've had a rough past year, a bereavement and health crises have unfortunately taken the forefront, all the while trying to do a medical degree.

I've had doctors dismiss and neglect me, despite being in agony with endometriosis that I had no idea about which has been such a draining experience for me and my folks. It was only until one doctor doing a ward round happened upon my bed and carted me off to surgery to prevent a life-threatening ovarian torsion. Apparently, my excruciating pain was something and not just poor pain tolerance which is wild because you do get to a point where you think you're going mad.

Anyways, so I've got quite aggressive endometriosis (10 years of hellish periods will do that I suppose) and adenomyosis. Glad I've got the explanation for my pain and exhaustion, but wish the journey to the diagnosis was.

I'm currently recovering from surgery whilst trying to cram for finals (uni have given me some grace but this bacon sarnie is hellbent on getting it right the first time lmao). I will slowly get back into writing!

Hello, anon! You probably didn’t intend this, but you opened a door to an opportunity for me to Talk About Myself a bit, so I’m going to… do that?

Short answer: not officially, but a slowdown was coming anyway

Long answer: I started writing fanfic after ending a 15 year long career as a freelance copy and content writer (ask me my opinions about generative AI sometime! 🫠). I figured I was burned out on writing altogether, but after a few months of nothing I’m like “I wonder if I could write something different?” Operation: Doctor Support happened, and I was like “oh, okay, this was really fun, and I’m not mad at what I’ve written, so what now?”

The answer was, like, a rubber band effect of a decade and a half of writing product copy and stupid brand blogs that no one would ever read. My brain was like “smut smut smut smut that’s the exact opposite you never got to write that stuff dooooooooooooo it”

It’s starting to work its way out of my system, and now I’m looking at things more like “okay, I’ve coasted on my base level of writing skill forever, but now I want to, like, improve.” Which is scary and overwhelming and I’ve been getting into my head about it a lot.

So. 13 Ways. I have big ideas for that one, but I’m not sure my skills are up to pulling it off. I’m at a bit of a crossroads with it, and I’d rather take the time it needs for me to figure out my next steps. I expect that I’ll keep updating it at the pace I had before, about once a month. I have a chapter for it written, but I want to give it some time to simmer and come back to it with a clearer head to make sure it’s doing what I want it to do

Pepper Problems…. I kind of just black out for a while and then read over what I wrote and ask myself “is it angst? Is it hot? Yes and yes? Okay! Post!” So it’s hard to predict on that one, but I don’t see that one slowing down too too much.

I’ve talked with some other creators in the fandom recently about the effect of dopamine/feedback/likes and kudos. I’m incredibly susceptible to that sort of thing, and it does impact my writing choices sometimes. I want to make sure what I write is what I want it to be, but I struggle not to project what I expect readers want onto what I’m trying to create. My livelihood depended on my ability to intuit what others wanted from my writing for a very long time, and I need to accept that it’s not something I can shake off in a few months. But it’s vital that I do so, I think.

All that is to say…

Not sure? Nothing is officially on hold, but slowing down is something I’ve known I needed to do for a bit anyway.

If you read all that… why? Also I love you. At the risk of sounding, like, overwrought, the past few months have been healing for me in a way I didn’t know I needed. It’s been incredible to just write, and I’m so grateful that it’s being read. Truly. Thank you.

life series smp winners playlists part 1

okay so i've been just absolutely brainrotting over this for like weeks now and its time to finally post it!

i've basically just been compiling songs that i think fit each of the life series winners, and they're either songs i've seen work really really well in animatics already or songs that would probably work really well, but are less popular or not associated with this fandom (yet)

i'll be linking+listing them here as well as providing little snippets of explanation for why i think the song fits, but i don't feel like making actual spotify playlists or smth, so if anyone else wants to do that, be my guest.

ofc i still had trouble finding good songs for some of them- if anyone seeing this has a good idea that i missed, lmk and i'll update these posts (no promises tho)

2. A Big Day for Grimley - AJJ: this one is because of this animatic, and also the lyrics fit the characters almost too well

I went back to the desert, little Midwest in me And now I am colder than I used to be (it feels like him reflecting on his experiences in 3L)

I came back to the desert, and the desert came into me And now there’s a quietness, and it’s deafening (returned to the desert for the final duel, and now that he's the only one left, the absence of his partner is deafening)

i could go on much longer about this song, but i feel like the animatic sums it up really well so GO WATCH THAT GO GO GO

3. Take Me to War - The Crane Wives: i know that everyone and their mother has done desertduo crane wives, but i've yet to see anyone use this song, which is a shame since its one of my favorites!

I've earned myself a reputation That my bark is much worse than my bite But I keep snapping at Goliath's hands With all of my tiny might (technically, he's not red, and also his traps keep failing, so the threats are pretty empty, but that will not stop him from being a menace)

4. Community Gardens - The Scary Jokes: this is watcher!grian again, sorry not sorry- i do have a really vivid image in my head of an animatic for this song tho (the brainrot goes deep, i cannot escape)

Full disclosure, I am a monster A creature of despair, not that that should be a cause for concern (its so watcher coded im gnawing on the walls)

You'll be fine, you honeycomb Who could ever hurt you? Who could be so cold? You'll be fine, oh, honey pie Who could ever hurt you? Who could be so unkind? (ok so remember when i said i had an animatic idea about two sentences ago? ya. so i imagine this part as watcher!grian going through and causing the final deaths of all the winners (except scar we'll get there i promise) for instance, smiting scott at the end of LL, severing pearl's soulmate string in DL, and checking the time left before killing martyn in LimL)

The culmination of man's mistakes came the day The sun ran so hot, it turned the desert to glass (this is the whole "hail mary" thing where they blew up the whole desert and still didn't kill anyone)

If there's something to be learned from all these losers It's that the price that you pay For arrogance and a false sense of immunity Is to face the wrath of a dying star (false sense of immunity is scar's no kill passes, reputation points, etc., which really didn't mean all that much in the end (see: Bdubs))

5. Passerine - The Oh Hellos: aside from the obvious bird symbolism (passerine are songbirds), the overall theme of this song fits the character pretty well! (i think it could also apply to DL jimmy if you squint)

You were the song that I'd always sing You were the light that the fire would bring But I can't shake this feeling that I was only Pushing the spear into your side again (3L typical desert/light/sun/fire imagery, with a bonus helping this time of 3L typical self doubt and/or survivor's guilt! you love to see it)

My palms and fingers still reek of gasoline From throwing fuel to the fire of that Greco-Roman dream Purifying the holy rock to melt the gilded seams It don't bring me relief, no it don't bring me nothing (more arson what can i say- also the hollow existentialism that comes with killing your friends)

When he comes a knocking at my door What am I to do, What am I to do, oh lord (ok i like to imagine this line as grian realizing that scar's SL win means he goes to hang out with the winners now, meaning uhoh reunion time! that's about to be awkward!)

6. Do It All The Time - IDKHBTFM: yeah i know it doesn't seem like it fits at first, but i think parts of it captures the spontaneous silliness of 3L pretty well

No reason why I'm only doing anything I want to do Because I do it all the time We're taking over the world A little victim-less crime (making monopolies (or trying to) really just because)

Now we're so young But we're probably gonna die It's so fun We're so good at selling lies (this one's pretty on the nose, but you get the idea)

Iceman Fic: The Sister Project

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to announce the creation of a Fic that has been coming for a very long time. After brainstorming it a few months ago with some fellow writers, I finally plotted and am writing a awesome, Multi chapter, Heart wrenching yet wonderful, Iceman romance.
