Monday was a little #bittersweet. The #hickory #hawk went to its new #home. 🦅🏡 I honestly couldn’t be happier though, its new home is #perfect. A #beautiful #house and #property. Way more fitting than my #weird living room. 😂 but since I’m now #hawkless, I’m suffering a bit from #emptynestsyndrome (ha!). So started working on the NEXT hawk. I’ve been working on this #redtailed #hawk since 2016, just after my mom died. I wanted to start something big, to kind of commemorate her. A #bird seemed fitting. Then it sat, #rusting, for a long time. I started working on it again after I lost #nora (A very vocal redtail lives near where I buried her, so that was some motivation.) 🐶💙🦅 The #feathers are mostly #salvaged #butterknives, the #wood #wing feathers are from a #hickory tree I cut down up at home the weekend of moms memorial service. The #tail is #cherry. It’s probably the most #challenging #piece I’ve attempted. And I’m very honored to share it with you today. The design was very much inspired by the phenomenal work of @carlseanmcmahon ; please check his stuff out, you’ll see instantly why. #happynewyear! Not gonna lie, #2018 had its rough moments. Losing #Nora was pretty awful. Thank you all for the kind words and support, it meant more than I can say. After 214 days of #planning, #writing large checks, and #pandemic delays I finally #brokeground on my new #addition. 🔨🥳 It’ll be mostly #workshop with a little extension of my #kitchen. I’ll finally have room for a dining room table, like an actual #grownup. Hope you all had a nice #thanksgiving! I’m long overdue for an update on my #workshop #addition. It was a HUGE effort and has consumed me for months but the major #construction is done!
