I doodled a bunch of a little mermaid au stuff last night with no intention to post it but now I'm posting it anyway and making it your problem

This is not even all of it, gonna post the rest later

Gonna ramble about this under the cut cause even tho it started as I wanna draw wwx as merfolk it somehow developed somewhat of a plot??

So the beginning is pretty self explanatory but some background stuff would be the Jiang and Wen are merfolk but the Wen were discovered by humans and hunted down to just the remnants that wwx protects in canon, and the Jiang (and presumably other underwater clans I haven't thought about) also shun the Wen remnants and blame them for being discovered. Wwx disagreed with the others about the Wen being responsible of their own demise and left the Jiang to live with them. They aren't in danger anymore though, otherwise wwx wouldn't just fuck off to the surface even if he would come back.

The Lan, Jin and Nie clans are human and the characters hold similar social statuses as in canon. (Also I was just drawing with no idea about the world and just wanting to forward the story and the clothes definitely reflect that being western but the hairstyles being from canon and the Lans still having their ribbons and such.)

Wwx meets and saves lwj similar to the mousehouse version, but him turning human doesn't involve a third party or a time limit because his goal isn't to be human full time. He does a ritual that turns him human but it requires a sacrifice in exchange and he gives his voice. He can turn back at will but if he does he'll have to do the ritual all over again to change into a human again. His voice also returns when he's in his original form.

Wwx has seen lwj before saving him and has a little crush and after saving him he finds lwj's ribbon floating around in the ocean and not knowing the importance of it takes it as a lil memento of him. (Hence lwj in the sketches not having it.)

Also the merfolk are a lot more fishy than the average fairytale mermaids, with having gills, webbed hands etc, and due to gills wwx can't stay above the surface for long unless he's neck deep in water, same with speaking, he can speak above the surface for a bit until he runs out of air.

So after lwj finds human!wwx on the beach thinking he's been washed up from a shipwreck he brings wwx home and they find ways to communicate, he teaches wwx to write and they both learn sign language together and go on cute dates and have a good time and fall in love. Lxc is happy for his little brother but also worried because their uncle had been planning on an engagement for lwj and mm and is not happy about wwx suddenly popping up.

That's about it around these drawings, there'll be more to come later. This turned out way longer than I thought but if you read the whole thing I hope you had fun.

According the Beaverton’s sources (who you can trust because the Beaverton is considered by Meta to be a real news site which they’ve begun blocking along with other Canadian news sites), a man who was once described as the world’s youngest self-made billionaire regularly indulged in gross and indecent acts of rodent-based bestiality and was known for keeping multiple “pets” in a room adjacent to his office at Meta Platform headquarters which contained a human-sized Habitrail and that he referred to as “The Mousehouse”.

Minty sighed to herself, cupping her cheek as she sat under a tree overlooking the world she had been brought into. This place was strange, all over the place maybe! I mean, the place she was looking over now was literally called Bom’rand and was all about boomerangs and…stuff. Looked almost like something out of a Dr. Snooze book (Aka the Albutist world’s Dr. Seuss).

Minty hadn’t ever really explored the place other than when her friend, Aria, first discovered her, laying on the ground of Acorn. Yeah, there was a place here just, straight up, called Acorn. Aria was always nice to her, not even seeming to understand that Minty really didn’t belong there.

Minty just sighed to herself and kept staring out at the town below. This world was always…really weird. Aria would tell her all about the history of this world, even telling her that Acorn used to be caught in a time loop of suffering and horrible death! Until of course, it just…stopped one day. Minty heard constantly that everyone was waiting for it to happen again but it just…never did!

What had Minty been thinking about again? Oh yeah, Bom’rand. Bom’rand and it’s weird…weird…weird people. Weird people like-

“Mintay! There you are!” Minty squealed, her fur puffing up as she looked back, watching around the tree. There’s a familiar voice. In the leaves, there was a loud russel shortly before Greenest poked his head out from the leaves. The leaves were thick enough that Minty couldn’t tell if Greenest was hanging upside down by his tail or his knees.

Naturally, his green eyes weren’t aligned properly either, being mismatched up and down. “M-Mabel! Greenest-!” Minty stepped away from the tree just as Greenest hit the ground with a resounding crack. “Oooooh…that’s not good. I have appeared to have snapped my neck,” Greenest murmured before standing up and cracking his twisted head back on normally. Minty’s green tail flicked behind her before she patted her back down to realign her own wings. About a year in this world and she still hadn’t properly learned how to care for her big, dumb, rainbow wings, huh?

Mabel pulled herself up the cliff side, huffing slowly as she tucked away her rope. “You Freeskies make getting to you real hard, huh?” Mabel tucked her large hat in properly and dusted off her outfit. Minty took a moment to lick her paws and soothe her tabby fur, puffing out her cheeks correctly and making sure she looked normal. “We were looking all over for you! You know I don’t like working with Mousehouse Head over there.” Greenest stuck his tongue out at Mabel, flicking his large tail at Mabel, “I’m shocked you’d say such a thing, we’ve slept in the same bed, you’d know how my fur feels. REGARDLESS of uncomfy details, my fur is more refined than that. Too refined for the mice..” He crossed his arms, soon puffing up his raggedy fur to look a little better, “Then again, the mice are just like us, I think.”

“Well good for you, you still have a mouse-house for a brain.” Mabel was the sort to not care what her fur looked like. Her orange fur constantly had bits of wood and brambles in it. “Also, those aren’t mice scrounging around my lab, it’s roaches–I think–they’re everywhere! Luckily I’ve started to adapt a perfect seeerum to keep them out…!”

“ANYways! Minty!!” Greenest excitedly exclaimed, placing his large, green paws on Minty’s shoulders, “Been really looking all over for you, you are such a slippery little thing!” Green then lifted Minty’s arms and even picked her up at one point. “You’re not hurt right? Your wings are allllll blue!” He spread out Minty’s blue wings as wide as they would go.

Minty allowed Greenest to continue for a moment with his ever pestering questions before Minty closed her wings in finally. Her wings faded back to their light, default white. “Greenest, please, I’m doing just fine…I-I was just feeling a little homesick. The constant tension in Acorn is always about and it wears on a girl. Everyone’s wondering when a head’s gonna go flying. Or maybe a paw or tail. I wasn’t around when the Death-loop was happening but I’ve heard all about the gruesome ways people had died in Acorn from Aria.”

“Oh yeah, wasn’t your….” Mabel trailed off a little, mumbling some things. “New granddad?” Minty answered for her. Her granddad (by law) Flippy was always a bit of a strange and anxious fellow. “Yes, Granddad around for those?” Mabel asked, gesturing her paw out. “Around for them? His trauma led to him having the second highest kill count! I really don’t like talking about it though…” Minty’s wings dropped again. “He’s gotten much better nowadays, he’s just an old, sentimental guy. I’ve sworn a bit of an oath to not talk about what he did during the Death-loop. I want to respect that.”

Greenest piped back up, wrapping his wing around Minty, “Exactly! Don’t be sooo pushy, Mabel,” Greenest pointed at Mabel, grumbling some more. Mabel just crossed her arms, muzzle up turned towards Greenest. “What would you know about not being pushy, Greenest? Or maybe I should instead call you Mr. ‘I-can’t-stop-running-tests-and-driving-my-girlfriends-nuts’!”

Greenest mocked a mouth with his paw, going “Meh meh meh!” as he glued googly eyes onto his paw. “That’s all I hear! You country folk never understand silence- SCIENCE correctly!” His wings were starting to get puffy. “You guys are always like ‘Don’t take the vaccines! They’re eviiil!’ and ‘Albutist is flat! It’s Flat I tell you!!’ and ‘Never believe the government! QUESTION EVERYTHING!’ Greenest’s eyes flashed through various colors as he went on about Mabel’s people being crazy. Minty just watched his green eyes cycle through colors for a bit as he went on to mock and pretend to be a ‘Bom’rand Cat’. “‘HERUK A DERK! HAY, Boomerangs, and horses! Chicken and cows running through the house is always nice!’!” Mabel’s fur puffed up, “I do not act like that!”

“Your family sure DOES!”

Minty watched them argue, her wings starting as yellow as they faded into orange. She rubbed her muzzle, “Guys…please…could you not argue about your old relationship for even just a second…? Seriously, I get there’s tension but please…it’s annoying…” Minty kept rubbing her muzzle as her ears swung back. Greenest’s head shot over to look at Minty. His eyes slowly returned to their normal green.

“Very sorry, Minty. I forgot you were there. That happens when I get angry. No one else, just me, the colors of my eyes make it weirder,” Greenest kept his head cocked to the side, making a bit of a ticking motion once in a while.

“With your weird, ever consuming shadows,” Minty lightly teased, reaching up to hold the face of the cat before her that was much taller than her. “YOU NEVER KNOW! The shadows are ever consuming–! The rot consumed my entire teeeeam once!” Greenest shouted, pulling away from Minty and his eyes flaring through colors again.

Minty held his snout, hushing his crazed rants. “Greenest…” Greenest’s ears went back before he let out a sigh. “Right, right…deep breaths, Greenest…” He perked up soon after, fixing his wings after a moment.

Minty sighed, “I’ll be staying the night at my dad’s place tonight, I’ll stay at the lab tomorrow. I rarely get to talk to my dad nowadays…” Greenest’s tail wag as he giggled. “Got it, Mintsie~, I forgot the Melatine and Orprocrate in their cooking chambers, I’ll see you tomorrow, my love!” Greenest spun out his large wings before he flew off down the cliff and back to his lab. Minty just sat down, watching him fly away before feeling Mabel bump her shoulder.

“Oh! Yeah, Mabel? …Is this about my relationship with Greenest again?” Minty had had multiple of these conversations with Mabel before. Mabel had previously dated Greenest. (“Man has a thing for the letter ‘M’!” Teased Aria often).

“Yeah, how’d you know?” Mabel said lightly, already knowing the answer. “You talk to me constantly whenever you see our lovey dovey crap,” Minty lightly poked Mabel’s chest, flicking up her chin even lighter with her tail.

“Well, you know Minty, he’s nuts. He’s constantly around and inhaling Cawtnitip, you know what that stuff does to a cat,” Mabel flicked her tail back at Minty. Minty could only laugh, pushing her tail down into her lap. “He’s a devil in disguise, a sna~ake with blu~e eyes…” Mabel held Minty’s paws, starting to dance with her slightly on the cliff’s top. “And he only comes out at nii~ight!” Minty softly sang along, planning her steps carefully to dance along with Mabel. “Giives you feelings you don’t want to fi~ight.”

“You better run for your life…” Minty ended with a sobering sound to her voice.

“Always make sure to remember, Mint,” Mabel smiled, holding up Minty’s face shortly before fixing her hat and using her rope to hop down the cliff back into town.

Minty sighed, watching her leave before she spread out her green wings to fly home.

Lesser-known European Digital Nomad Hotspots

In recent blog posts we have looked at various digital nomad hotspots around the globe. 

These are places in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa that have gained a reputation and popularity amongst the digital nomad community. 

This time we will be looking at some of the lesser-known own or up-and-coming destinations in Europe that are slowly beginning to make waves. 

These destinations aren’t typically oversaturated yet. They should be a good bet for those who don’t want to follow the crowd but want to find a place to stay that suits their needs. 

Plovdiv, Bulgaria

A historic city in Bulgaria, Plovdiv is gaining traction with the digital nomad community due to the low cost of living, fast internet speeds and great food on offer.

Many people have heard of Bansko, which has become the main Bulgarian digital nomad hotspot but Plovdiv is definitely a worthy contender.

Around two hours on the bus from Sofia, Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria. There are many beautiful parks situated throughout the city, and it is a very green place to stay.

The city has so many ancient Roman ruins including an amphitheatre If you are a fan of history then this is the place for you. 

Plovdiv is the oldest living city in Europe and dates back to somewhere near 4000 BC. It also has the longest shopping street in Europe. There are definitely many reasons why you should visit Plovdiv and it is a great place to spend time in.

It is a very hipster-friendly city and there are so many excellent food and entertainment options.

There are many coworking places to choose from, though there aren’t as many coliving places yet, but as it gains in popularity, we are sure this will change.

MouseHouse Coliving is attached to the Cat and Mouse Coworking space in the creative district of Kapana.

Niš, Serbia

Places that hold Nomad Festivals tend to garner fans and this is one of the things that has helped to popularise Bansko as a destination.

Nis will be holding its first Nomad Festival from 9th-12th August 2024 and is set to benefit from the influx of international remote workers.

Nis is a tiny and very walkable city that is a creativity hub in Serbia. It has its own science and technology park that can be hired out for events.

The city is already popular with creatives and digital marketers from Serbia, but now it is being given a larger stage for the international digital nomad community. 

The climate in Nis is very warm in the Summer months, sometimes climbing over 30 C, which is not surprising due to its location in the Balkans. It can still reach highs of 19 in October.

Serbia isn’t part of Schengen or the European Union, which means it is perfect for nomads who need to leave the Schengen area for a while. 

There are coworking spaces aplenty in Nis, including at Think Innovation, Deli Space and The Hood Community Hub.

There are no coworking locations at present but there are very affordable hotel and apartment options that can be found online. 

Tirana, Albania

The capital city of Albania, Tirana is located in the heart of the country and sits between several mountains.

The Mediterranean climate means that it has a temperate climate for most of the year, though it gets quite cold in the winter.

Tirana encompasses both the old and the new, and this combination of ancient and modern is a captivating experience. It is a modern city in so many ways, with many young people embracing the opportunities that technology presents to them.

Yet, the architecture harks back to another time and is heavily influenced by the Ottomans.

There is a thriving creative scene in Tirana and Albania more generally and it is easy to see why this beautiful location is gaining in popularity with those who can live a location-independent lifestyle.

There are many cafes that allow remote working and there are 5-10 coworking locations that can be used for a reasonable fee. 

In terms of Coliving, Nomad Island offers a beautiful 1920s villa that is centrally located and has been designed to allow for a comfortable experience for digital nomads.

They have a large focus on community building, in the same way that Evolve Coliving has in Malta, and have several different room options depending on preference and budget.

Kotor, Montenegro

Situated on the Adriatic Coast, Kotor offers digital nomads the chance to ensconce themselves in a location that has all the amenities they need while being small enough to get to know local people.

At just 13,000 people, Kotor is a friendly and intimate base for exploring this beautiful country. 

Kotor is a place to spend some time relaxing and slowing life right down. Appreciating this beautiful place to the maximum for its stunning scenery and chilled-out way of life is a must.

There are many cafes, bars and restaurants to work from, though there aren’t any coworking spaces to date. 

The digital nomad community here is quite small for now but it is somewhere that will almost certainly gain in popularity.

Montenegro, like Serbia, is outside both the EU and Schengen, which makes it an ideal place to spend your 90 days outside Europe if you have hit your limit.

The internet in Kotor is both reliable and fast and the cuisine on offer is an eclectic mix of different European and Balkan dishes.

There aren’t any coliving spaces, but accommodation is very reasonably priced and the incredible location more than makes up for the relatively small digital nomad community at present.

Tarifa, Spain

Located only 14km from Africa and opening onto the Strait of Gibraltar, Tarifa is a paradise for those who love nature.

There are whales, dolphins and sealife galore, just off the coastline of this small seaside town.

Tarifa has ancient walls and an old Arab fortress, which showcases its rich history as a place where civilisations and continents met each other, in trade and in war.

Home to white sandy beaches, clear blue waters and high winds, Tarifa is a paradise for those who enjoy wind or kite surfing. 

Though not as temperate as the climate in some other Spanish locations, due to its location and the crosswinds, Tarifa is nonetheless an excellent destination.

It recently played host to Nomadbase Live, which saw hundreds of digital nomads descend on the town. 

There are several decent coworking options in Tarifa, including TAF Coworking Tarifa and Tarifa Garage.

There is a Coliving hostel called La Cocotera, and this appears to be an excellent option, given the different rooms and price points available.
