Posted @withregram • @kbrailfan The Infamous Reroute… Here pictured is a R160A-1 🅜 train approaching 72 Street-2nd Av on the SAS branch, it is seen here preparing to stop here and continue its route to 96 Street-2nd Av. - Due to weekend track maintenance on the Canarsie Tunnel, 🅛 train only ran between Canarsie Rockaway Parkway and Myrtle-Wyckoff Aves, so free shuttle buses provided service between Myrtle-Wyckoff Aves and 8th Ave, so as an alternative 🅜 trains provided special service to 96 Street-2 Av for 🅛 train customers. #MapMondays - today we’re looking at the contemporary subway map, in honor of its creator, Michael Hertz, who passed away last month. From the New York Times obituary, “The map that Mr. Hertz’s firm came up with included streets, neighborhoods and other surface reference points. And it depicted the city and its signature elements like Central Park and the waterways in a fashion more reflective of reality — the park wasn’t square, as on the earlier map, and the water wasn’t beige. A Japanese painter and designer working for Mr. Hertz, Nobuyuki Siraisi, rode every subway line with his eyes closed so that he could better feel the curves in the routes. (One of the complaints about the Vignelli diagram [the map that proceeded it] was that it was done entirely in straight lines.)... Hurricane Henri August 21st 2021 7:29pm MTA New York City Subway Rockaway Beach Peninsula of Long Island NY Hurricane Henri (/ɒnˈriː/ on-REE[1]) is currently an active Atlantic hurricane that is threatening Long Island and New England. The eighth tropical depression and eighth named storm, and the third hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, Henri originated from a well-defined low-pressure system 200 miles north-northeast of Bermuda. At 03:00 UTC on August 16, the system became designated into Tropical Depression 08L. Eighteen hours later, the system strengthened into Tropical Storm Henri. Henri continued to slowly move south, and later southwest. Henri continued to steadily strengthen, reaching its initial peak intensity with winds of 70 mph (110 km/h) and a pressure of 994 mbar (29.4 inHg) early on August 19. Soon after, strong wind shear weakened Henri slightly. Otra foto interesante urbana dentro de el metro de la ciudad de Nueva York, es cierto hoy me preguntaron si era cierto que no me atrevo a salir con mi camara solo en la Ciudad de Mexico y la respuesta es No, si aveces escondida y con compañía pero no como la llevo en ciudades como en Nueva York a todas partes y la ve todo mundo y no pasa nada, prefiero cuidar mi equipo, me gusta muchísimo sacar los colores urbanos de las ciudades, las lamparas florecentes de los lugares tienen un extraño color verde pero no es visible con el ojo humano, bueno si, pero tenuemente sobretodo si tu ojo esta educado, hay tres tonos de foco común florecente, esta el rojo (tungsteno), el azul (luz día) y el verde, el verde es el mas interesante para fotografía, te deja unos colores interesantísimos en foto con los que puedes jugar con tonos contrarios o similares, pero desde que la fotografiaba en cine me gustaba jugar con película de día (color temperature daylight) por que me daba unos tonos perfectos urbanos y verdes, nunca la fotografiaba con película para tungsteno, esa te daba unos tonos feos, hoy en día trato de emular ese tono que me daba el cine en lo que hago digitalmente, esta es una de esas imágenes digitales con una formula muy particular de colorimetria y otra cosa de este tono es que es de los únicos tonos que pueden mezclar bien el tungsteno y el azul sin que se noten errores. #copyrightedphoto #fitopardocopyrighted #mta #mtasubway #mtanyctransit #mtanyc #underground #undergroundphotography #greencolor #yellowcolor #desaturated #filmlook #motionpicturelook #brazillook #matte #mattelook #mattephotography #lookingatcamera #couple #filmlook #filmisnotdead #dark #sevenlook #fincherlook #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity #newyorker (at MTA NYC Subway) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGrWrcejecw/?igshid=wn0gsj4acuit

WHY DOES EVERY NYC SUBWAY CONDUCTOR POINT AT A BLACK AND WHITE STRIPED BOARD AFTER STOPPING AT EACH STATION? 🚇 Throughout the subway system's 472 stations you will see one of these stripped signs in the middle of each platform facing the tracks, and every time a train pulls in, the conductor acknowledges the sign by pointing at it. So what is this all about? The striped boards are referred to as ZEBRA BOARDS. Each subway car has a specific spot where it has to stop at each platform. If the train pulls up too short or too far, the conductor needs to know not to open the doors. The signs are placed to indicate the conductor is in the correct location on the platform to open the doors. Although Zebra Boards have been around almost as long as the subway system, up until 1996 conductors were not required to acknowledge them. Requiring the conductors to point at the boards verified they were paying attention to the train's location, as they are often being recorded by station cameras.
