okay but in munna bhai mbbs, with casual racism from circuit in that scene aside, when circuit says to that japanese or chinese guy "tum saala baahar gaon se ate ho, tum logonko sirf bhuke nange hi dikhai detehe kya. ye taj mahal vagaira kyun nahi" (rough trans: why do you people who are outsiders always wanna see poor and starving people in India? what about seeing taj mahal for example?) when the guy is going "no I want to see poor people, hungry people, Real India." like even the people he was taking pics of were def poor but werent hungry per se, they were more like blue collar laborers.
but yeah it really is like that. they really just wanna see True IndiaTM and not that Im anywhere near patriotic but Ive had so much casually offensive shit said to me about india when I had to show two japanese friends around in new delhi... they were both males so I shouldve expected that they would wanna go into slums, and were taking photos of homeless people sleeping on streets, just saying how crowded and dirty it is, etc. and I honestly wonder if they wouldve brought up wanting to go to the red light district if they were with a male indian instead of me. and then one of them later told me how lucky he feels to have been born in japan after seeing the poverty and how indians live...
yeah like shouldve just dropped their asses right there and then and said pls fuck off and leave us alone maybe. because I had traveled from few states away just to show them around and I was scared of them getting into some shit. but then I had to tolerate this kinda dehumanizing attitude for a week straight.
Im not gonna take shit from outsiders anymore. as if we dont have enough shit on our plates to deal with. we are not a human zoo to entertain first world morons.
that movie came out in 2003 and this incident happened with me in 2018 so. much to think about.

hiiiiii 💖 asking u 4, 5, 7, 21 and 34 for the movie asks!!
hiiiiii 💓 thank you aléks!
4. name a movie you put on to laugh to
honestly this could be the case for a lot of old, silly bollywood movies i used to watch when i was younger 😭 the last ones i remember watching with family for this reason specifically was partner (2007) and munna bhai mbbs (2003). not that these are the funniest movies ever by any means, but i was blanking real hard otherwise. some other nostalgic icons like shrek could probably make this list, or some cary grant movie like bringing up baby or arsenic & old lace too. etc etc
5. name a movie you put on to cry to
i dont really rewatch movies for an emotional catharsis per se but some random ones i can think of that i'd def put on for this reason:
ghajini (2008)
a monster calls (2016)
society of the snow (2023)
your name engraved herein (2020)
interstellar (2014) .. but just the murphy and cooper scenes tbh
mufasa's death in the lion king, this one particular scene from dumbo, the slipping through my fingers sequence from mamma mia, and also just putting on the maa song from taare zameen par 🥲
7. name a movie you're emotionally attached to
MANY SUCH CASES….. but to name just one: om shanti om (2007) 🥹
21. favorite animated film?
again, many such cases 🏃🏻‍♀️ but i just have to give a massive special shout-out to shrek 2!!! YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS TO MEEEE
34. which film is the most visually beautiful?
oh gosh… there’s seriously way too many to count so there’s definitely not one i could name as THEE most visually beautiful but here’s a handful:
devdas (2002)
belly (1998) -- that opening scene is just amazing!!!
i saw the tv glow (2024)
the young girls of rochefort (1967) -- jacques demy in general is so great with color in his films so you can sub in basically any of his movies here tbh
the fall (2006)
om shanti om (2007)
bulbbul (2020)
suspiria (1977)
moonlight (2016)
the grand budapest hotel (2014) -- ik wes anderson's aesthetic is kinda overdone and copied a lot now but this movie really did leave an impact on me when i first came across visuals of it <- says the pink and pastels lover, so who's surprised?
women on the verge of a nervous breakdown (1988)
mughal-e-azam (1960)
the red shoes (1948)
helter skelter (2012)
movie ask game questions! 🍿

Oscars 2024: Nitin Desai, late art director, honoured during In Memoriam segment at the Academy Awards
In August 2023, art director Nitin Desai allegedly died by suicide at ND Studio in Karjat.
The Oscars' In Memoriam segment on Sunday night on March 10 (Monday morning for India), paid tribute to a talent that left an indelible mark on the world of cinema at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Among the luminaries remembered, Indian art director and producer Nitin Desai was honoured alongside icons like Tina Turner and Matthew Perry. Desai's passing, at the age of 57, was a tragic loss for the film industry, as he had contributed significantly to some of Bollywood's most memorable works.
Tumblr media
Nitin Desai had won four National Awards for Best Art Direction. He was best known for his fruitful collaboration with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, during which he crafted stunning sets that became integral to the visual storytelling of films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Bajirao Mastani. Beyond his partnership with Bhansali, Desai lent his creative vision to a diverse array of filmmakers, including Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Ashutosh Gowariker.
His extensive filmography boasts credits in beloved movies like Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Dostana, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Munna Bhai MBBS, Mission Kashmir, Josh, and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. Desai's final cinematic endeavour was the 2019 war epic drama Panipat, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
In August 2023, art director Nitin Desai allegedly died by suicide at ND Studio in Karjat. The 57-year-old artist had been facing financial woes, struggling to repay a staggering Rs 252-crore loan, leading to a bankruptcy court admitting an insolvency petition against his company, ND's Art World Pvt Ltd, according to a report by PTI.

Arshad Warsi explains the difference between a connected actor and one with no connections
Arshad Warsi, being an outsider in the Bollywood community has said that if you do not belong to the community, you have to do all the struggle again once you deliver a flop. Talking about the prevalence of nepotism and favoritism in Bollywood, the actor who is making a lot of popularity for his latest release Asur 2 talked at length about the privileges that only a handful of people in Bollywood have got. He says that such people are offered several films to ensure they bring out a hit but for others, if there is one flop, it means that they will have to do all the struggle all over again.
Arshad made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with the movie Tere Mere Sapne produced by Jaya Bachchan and directed by Joy Augustine. The actor, later in his career, made a lot of progress as he worked on movies like  Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dhamaal, Golmaal, and Ishqiya.
Talking about nepotism in Bollywood, Arshad said that it is a long upward-hill journey for an actor if he delivers one flop. "It is a sad thing but what can you do? There is a certain segment of actors, who are a little more privileged than the other segment. Yes, I am talking about kids connected to the film industry. Then some people are not connected to the industry. I can’t complain, the film industry has given me a lot, and I love it and I thank them all the time. I, every morning, thank Joy Augustine, Jaya Bachchan, and Amitabh Bachchan, because of them I have got what I have got. So, nothing against the industry but this is the norm.”
Arshad also talked about how the ones with great connections in the industry are given a lot of chances. "I am not even complaining, I accept it. The sad part is I probably would do the same things with my kids. But yes, it is a difficult thing. You have a segment of actors who will get multiple chances to give a hit and then you have another segment who do not get that. You give one flop, you are doomed; you have to struggle all the way again to get back. So that is a sad part."
