The third outfit of "Murder & the Maiden" (Season 3, Episode 2) is Phryne's disguise of a brown velvet jacket, black camisole and pants, along with an embroidered headwrap worn while trying to draw out the Russian Anarchists.
Borrowing Tatiana's embroidered headwrap and brown velvet coat to confuse the anarchists, the rest of Phryne's wardrobe is in similarly muted tones. The deep brown velvet caplet with mid-length sleeves and a wide collar (possibly allowing for a hood) is worn on top of her black camisole with a straight neckline and decorative scalloped edging. Her classic black wide leg silk faille pants add to the practicality and color of the outfit.
She accessorizes with fawn colored gloves embroidered with a black emblem of wheat, and a beautiful hand embroidered brown head wrap which features a variety of colors and types of floral embroidery, from large orange flowers to green grass to blue and red sprigs. The earth colors tie into her large leather bag and add to the somber tone of the scene. Phryne finishes off the outfit with dark strapped heels.

One Dress a Day Challenge
February: Orange Redux
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (s3 e2, "Murder and the Maiden") / Essie Davis as Phryne Fisher
Here's a bonus costume, since February is a short month. It seems an appropriate choice as we transition into the month of pink. Miss Fisher wears this "Coral Dream-coat" constructed of silk shot velvet over a simple grey tunic and trousers. The sleeves are interesting--notice how they fall open in the photo where she is raising a glass to drink. The straw beret is apparently a vintage 1920s piece, although the feather decoration was added by the series costume designer, Rose Hudson.
I also want to highlight her gloves, even though they're not orange. Miss Fisher always has appropriate gloves to complete her outfits!

there’s actually so much to unpack in 3.2 it might in fact be their most telling episode yet, after car crash and unnatural habits one of course. (and i dare say that having also seen the italian episode tonight 😮‍💨; two episodes back to back serving that delicious jealousy trope, exactly what i deserved 🏌🏻‍♀️i will try and assemble my thoughts on ~that piece of madness once i’ve rewatched it. twice. for research 😌)
this ep though. i was wondering if they’re going to progress them steadily throughout s3 following the date thing in 3.1 or if they were gonna make them get in the way of themselves (and how well that was going to be done because so often on shows it’s angst for its own sake rather than being character-driven). and they went for the latter and the fact we seem to have regressed is making all the sense in the world because it makes all the sense for the characters. and while i hated seeing phryne in that hangar, the discomfort surrounding it was exactly the right emotion, regression exactly the right term - for her uncertainty about what is happening with jack, for her going back to the easy and familiar.
and i mean obviously yes and yes again to all the jealousy from jack which is delicious and should get its name on the opening credits at this point (keep it up, show!). and while his jabs to her at the beginning are meant to be flippant, it is so obvious they are anything but (his jaw is working extra hard this ep, for starters. the fact he also looks hurt as hell is a dead giveaway, too).
but for me it’s the fact that phryne explains herself to him that’s the main event. and i don’t mean right after canoodling with captain flashheart; i mean right off the bat really.
the fact she does this - explains who compton is, what he was to her and when; and jack wait, and jack you have to understand - and the fact she feels like she owes him an explanation at all. and she does so willingly and so genuinely; she never once dismisses jack and she never plays down his discomfort or his hurt - and it’s such character growth, and it’s so organic, honestly i absolutely loved what they did there.
but then he pushes just that bit too hard, makes it a little too personal, with the dancing to compton’s tune line and you can ~see the shift in phryne; her whole demeanour changes and i knew - i KNEW - she would panic. because she doesn’t dance to anyone’s tune except she’s been dancing to jack’s tune a little bit lately and that scares her - the fact that she doesn’t really notice, doesn’t even mind it.
her going to compton is her wanting to regain familiar footing, feel on solid ground again.
too much ballast for lift off line is ~so spot on, so well placed, exactly how she feels. it conveys so many of her reservations and fears about this budding new relationship with jack, this trajectory she finds herself on, one she has been flirting with and tempting and longing for; but equally one that’s always scared her. and i think the fact it’s been so easy to slip in to that with jack is almost part of the problem, part of the reason why it’s so frightening.
(the fact compton asks her about jack after seeing them together for all of 17 minutes cumulatively is also so very telling!)
the scene where he catches her on the base in the middle of the night, his face and he knows and he’s so hurt and betrayed - and rightfully so - it’s painful to watch. but again, it’s phryne’s reaction that brings it home for me. not just that she goes after jack, but the fact she is so genuinely regretful. she knows she’s hurt him and she owns it; he is hers to hurt. and for phryne to allow herself to be that attached to a man that being with someone else feels like cheating is, i mean, that’s huge.
and as for jack, i know why he’s reluctant and guarded and scared, i do. he’s her hero but he doesn’t want to be just one in the long line of her heroes. one of her men (what other men? there are no other men that can be compared to jack); but god if he knew what she knows, see what she sees in him. if he knew that she’s just as scared as him but for exactly the opposite reason - because she knows he’s not fleeting at all; he’s the one that’s forever.

Miss Fisher Snippets (102)
Phryne was ecstatic to re-live the thrill with her old friend, who once risked his own life to save hers during the war. Unfortunately, it turned out that he was keeping appearances with her. Reminiscing was not always as good as it cracked up to be.

Okay i think the hyperfixation is over but i also think Saint would fit best as an Elden Ring MC because they both become god at the end. No I didn't make an anthro Saint design solely for this idk what youre talking about

⊱ SKYRIM STANDING STONES — THE LOVER
It is situated to the east of Markarth, and just north of Kolskeggr Mine. There is a leveled animal nearby that you will encounter as you approach the stone and several juniper trees in the area. It overlooks the road that passes Kolskeggr Mine on the edge of a cliff face next to a stream that tumbles as a waterfall to join the Karth River below. Either side of the stone are several upright stones in a semi-circle.

They're not crazy, they're from Florida.
Jessica probably saved Jennifer from an alligator at some point in her childhood. In Florida they say if there's water, there's a gator. The girls hung out at a lake therefore gator is inevitable. 🐊
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun fact: Jessica (27) is older than Jennifer (20), Horrorpedia (21), and Tooth Fairy (25). This doesn't mean much to me tbh because she is a "spirit" artwork rather than "arcanist" so Changelings might not age like people. That and her development could be stunted by the Zeno experiments.

The first outfit of "Murder & the Maiden" (Season 3, Episode 2) is a luxurious red velvet coat over a silver camisole and matching pants, complete with a shaped straw hat accented by feathers.
Known as the Coral Dreamcoat, Phryne's coat is made of a silk shot coral velvet with silver silk lining. Closer examination reveals godets (triangular inserts of fabric to add movement and width) of the velvet lined with silver piping on each side, along with a front tie and upturned sleeves with beaded decorations hanging from the ends of each.
"[The coat] has a front tie, which gives it lots of movement. Gareth Blaha, who's really quite sensational with finishing pieces, made these beautiful dangles off all the sleeves and the front tie." - Marion Boyce, Costume Exhibition Catalogue
Serving as a backdrop for her coral coat is a scoop-neck camisole with a wide hem, and flared trousers are made of a matching grey faille. Topping it all off is an authentic 1920s straw beret, adorned with a few thin maroon swirling feathers on top of a coral and maroon ostrich feather pouf and decorated with two gold buttons.
Phryne also brings along her grey woven handbag with a golden clasp that has been seen previously in 2x01 and 2x02, and ties in with the silver in her coat lining and her camisole and pants. She finishes the look with grey suede heels, white leather gloves, and glass bugle bead earrings.

i'm still fucking thinking about faulkner silt verses i haven't stopped all day. i just keep intermittently replaying parts of the ep and working my way thru the transcript. just now i was trying to explain to rafi how elated i was about everything that went down during this ep and rafi, horrified, was like "BUT I - I DON'T WANT HIM TO BE SUICIDAL????" and i was like "rafi. listen to me. i cannot express enough how much the suicide attempt was POSITIVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT."

teehee what if mc remembered getting a bad end before things got reset and then she ended up going back to the person who killed her in the last timeline but now she has nightmares about them and generally fears for her life when they act a certain way sometimes?
anyway donna fans, i am back with some hurt/comfort, please enjoy :o3
Valeria runs so fast she feels like her entire being is aflame with anxiety. Her pursuer is just as fast though and she knows she has no time to stop or think or hide, so on she runs, through the dark nursery until she reaches the inevitable dead end at the very back. She could maybe turn back and hop the beds if she trusts her own dexterity enough for the task, get back out into the shop and escape... except Miranda is there. There's no time to ponder upon escape anymore anyhow. Donna slows as she descends upon Valeria, and the girl almost thinks maybe she's snapped out of it, maybe they're safe, maybe they can get out of this, together.
Maybe wishful thinking hurt worse than accepting the ugly truth. Valeria cries out in terror as she's wrestled to the ground, adrenaline fueled strength only helping her so much against Donna's naturally stronger self.
"Nonono! Don't do this, Donna, please don't!" The redhead sobs, struggling to get out from under the older woman. She stops when something wet drips onto her cheek and she looks up. Donna is crying. Tears roll heavily down her cheeks, collecting with the blood and dirt on them before crashing down on Valeria. She doesn't want to do this.
Valeria lifts a hand to Donna's face, gently brushing the tears away. Scared as she was, it hurt her more to see her favourite person suffering than what she knew was coming next. She feels the heavy 'thump' against her chest and hears a horrible, loud 'crack' long before the stinging of broken skin and shattered sternum register. She thinks she might be screaming or crying but everything is just too much to really notice. The sensation hits her again and again, and she watches as more gore sprays Donna's teary face as everything around them starts to blur and fade to black.
Valeria wakes with a start, crying out and pushing herself away when the first thing her nightmare riddled mind sees is Donna sleeping next to her, ending up toppling to the floor. For having such a rude awakening herself, the botanist is quick to get up, turning on the lmap on the side table. She takes careful but worried steps towards Valeria's shivering form, now tucked back against the wall and trying very hard to breathe.
"Dolcézza, are you alright?" Her voice drips with concern. She slowly kneels before the redhead, reaching out to provide a comforting touch. Valeria looks at her hand as though it would kill her but doesn't stop her, leaning into the touch with a shakey exhale.
"I had... it was... a nightmare," the girl fights to say, nose scrunching slightly at her own words. It WAS a nightmare, but it also felt so fucking real. She raises a hand to her own chest, pressing roughly into the clammy skin to make sure. No blood; no gaping wounds; no broken ribcage. Just her racing heartbeat.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Valeria shakes her head violently in response. She didn't even want to think of the nightmare again, nevermind retell it. Especially not to Donna. She'd never forgive herself for making Donna worry about this, spending the next days or weeks or months wondering if she'd done something wrong to make her dream up a scenario so awful.
"Can you just hold me? Please?" She asks, leaning into Donna's chest and inhaling the scent of her and her nightclothes. Two arms wrap protectively around her and she feels safer than ever.
"Of course, bambola. I've got you," Donna whispers, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I won't let anything harm you." Despite having just experienced the opposite, Valeria believes her.
This time, she's safe.
