Mystics Aging

Myeong Hwi (Theo) says Mystics are granted “eternal youth” and “have the ability to control their aging”, which, I agree to some extent. 

However! We’ve seen Mystics who have in fact aged out of this “eternal youth”.

I've spent a few hours playing "A Date With Death" and I've been reminded of how much I miss playing otome games. I used to play them all the time back in highschool. Games like "Cinderella Phenomenon", "Mystic Messenger" and "Nusantara: Legend of the Winged Ones". Playing them now makes me remember how much I wanted to make my own.

And hey, if I ever find the time and learn to code using Ren'Py I still might do it. Maybe I'll pull a Stardew Valley and make all the music myself too.

Not a lot of boy centered otome mobile games out there in English, which means recommendations are usually bad because within that limited pool, none of them are actually alike beyond being a probable attraction to men. Here's what I played in the desperate hope of fulfilling the same hole Obey Me did for me.

Love and Deepspace: the new girl on the block. Allegedly breaking ground by being for girls and you beat up aliens. Extremely well made, tons of money poured into it, boring. Lots of reviews in that "I'm giving it 5 stars because I want to prove women are worth this kind of investment and/or are interested in action dating sims!" vein.

If I'm honest, I've realized no brown skinned dateables = no interest, so there was no chance I would care about this game. I tried though!

Twisted Wonderland: Despite how often I heard "if you liked OM, you should play Twisted Wonderland," the two aren't alike beyond surface level. It's an all right time passer, especially the vignettes. I have more fun mentally comparing them than anything - I could probably write a whole post about how despite similar premises, they're clearly not even after the same demographic, plus all the things each excel at, PLUS all the things I wish OM had copied. Why the hell does the Disney property understand the importance of deranged anime boy diversity, but the fucking 7 deadly sin dating simulator does not?

I also enjoyed watching my character tier-list change in real time. It starts off like I think these guys are the hottest, so I'll probably like them the most (Leona, Jamil, Malleus, Professor Male!Cruella) -> Okay, seeing this guy in action made me realize how cute he is (Azul) -> hahaha holy shit, this guy rocks (Rook, Azul, Jade) -> Your good looks will not save you from dropping tiers after that stupid story (Leona) ->...but a horny-coded vignette might (Leona and Vil)

Also, the story is kind of terrible, so I've been ignoring it. "What if we gave all of our hot guys tragic backstories that contradict the premise of the game (Disney villains won in this universe and are idolized for their actions) and were just kind of. Needlessly pathetic. In an embarrassing way."

Lovebrush Chronicles: Tried to care. Could not. Sorry.

Nu Carnivale: Love how it jumps straight into you getting a blowjob from demons but the second they pulled that card based battle system out, I was done. I'm sorry, I can't do this.

What in Hell is Bad: I'm not done with this. I will try again. But I am truly baffled by their battle system. No idea what was happening or how I won. Also, the one sex scene I read was cringe and bad.

Mystic Messenger: I saw my own review for the game timestamped to 2016 and withered up. I did love it though.

Devastation! A Love Letter to Mystic Code

Few months ago, LucyDream announced that Mystic Code will no longer be available, and true to their word, it’s no more on the App Store.

This is the third otome game I’ve every played in my life -- I played Mystic Messenger and @lucydreamgame ‘s Dangerous Fellows prior to this -- but this game was the first one that grabbed my true and full attention and affections.

A sad thing for those who never got to play it. 

And to this day, I look back fondly on the wit of the story, the charming characters, and the passion and thought put behind each forked decision. Heck, it made a full reboot to upgrade the experience! 

No otome game I have played since then has quite so raptly made me return to play it each time.

Which is why now that it is officially gone, and “spoilers” are basically now a nonentity, I’m going to pay homage to this game on my tumblr. 

On my laptop I’ve written lore, headcanons, tidbits, and scenarios of the characters and the Mystic Code universe that I thought would never see the light of day... but now it will be gazed upon under a glittering spotlight.

Day 10: In My Heart - Your favorite otome game

Another Story part of Mystic Messenger is by far my favorite otome game entry. And if I'm only going to get 3 hours of sleep before work (writing code no less) because I stayed up drawing, it's obviously going to be Ray. 🤡

I enjoy yandere content to an extent, and I’ve found that most games will have a yandere aspect or a yan LI if you choose to follow a specific route ^^ the ones I remember or enjoyed best are:

Mystic messenger (Ray) (there is yan stuff for a few other routes but Ray was my favourite)

Nameless (has multiple yan LI’s)

Amnesia: memories (Toma) (I mean how can we talk yan content without mentioning him lmao)

Nightshade (Kuroyuki) (a more tame yandere in my experience but I adore him my precious boy)

Olympia Soiree (Himuka) (more tendencies than acting upon them but I love him so) (actually I’ll put Kuroba here too for one specific ending)

Code: Realize (Saint Germain) (some people do not count him as a yan but I’ll stick him here bc his character was done v well imo)

Period cube (I haven’t personally played but my friend mentioned there being yandere parts)

Hello!!! I mainly play on my switch. My fave is collarxmalice. But I'm also playing piofiore which i like so far. Nightshade is also a pretty popular otome game but it wasn't really for me I was getting bored. Code: Realize is another popular series but I haven't played it yet.

For mobile I've played mystic messenger (haven't finished lol) and also tears of themis which is ongoing and I really like it and the MLs. Obey Me and Love and Deepspace are also really popular rn but I do not play either 😬

On PC I've played Boyfriend Dungeon which is really good and cute. I've also played A Date with Death which I don't think counts as an otome but it is really really cute nonetheless. It's more like a dating sim with just 1 character but you can call him babygirl lolol.
