Ichijo Fouta (KONDO SHORI) is a hardworking man sometimes into the morning. He has found he enjoys a unique way of liberation...eating...naked.

He doesn't want his secret getting out. He does it in the privacy of his own home.

When his grandmother dies, he goes to her home where he meets his grandmother's friend who runs a fruit and vegetable store named Miki Mahiro (played by Cherry Magic's second couple star YUTARO)

After obtaining vegetables and couscous from Miki, Fouta tries something more than his instant noodles.

When he decides to dapple in his liberating habit, he is stunned to find Miki at his door as he eats in the buff.

Zenra Meshi ( Naked Dinner ) Review on Ep 1-2

I've been quite a watcher of Japanese BL shows, especially since I'm intrigued by their language ( also an anime fan ), their soft yet appealing storylines and charming acting. Eventhough the stories don't dig deep much for their less number of episodes, I still find them quite interesting.

This time, I've started watching Naked Dinner, especially because of Goto Yutaro, who has also played in The Man who Defies the World of BL, and Cherry Magic. But, overall, I was excited due to the plot and their first encounter snippet from the official trailer.

Below, I've addressed the things I've liked and disliked about the show so far.

LIKES

1. Cinematography

So, when I watched the first episode, that one thing that significantly caught my eye was the cinematography of this show. Needless to say, you'd realize that it's beautiful and relaxing aesthetically, and the setting of the show is artistic. Starting from the scenarios of the old town of grandma's house, to the wonderful visual feast of the cooking of various recipes; it was oddly satisfying to watch, as if I've been travelling and eating like Ichijou, vicariously ( not by being naked, not thAt tho )

The soft tone of the show is truly appealing - I'd recommend this show if you're up for a full visual sensationalism, and that's it. From the food, grocery stores, to the office and the furnishings at home - I adored the way the cinematic effects were added here, portraying the Japanese or Global cuisine, topped with Japanese culture. The house at grandma's is like nostalgia, which brings out a poignant warmth in the show, as well.

2. Familial Bond

I really adored how the relationship of Ichijou and his grandma was being portrayed. From what I've seen so far - the invisible thread that is connecting all the plot holes, is Ichijou's grandma. Eventhough she has passed away, her role is the most prominent one in the entire show, atleast till these 2 episodes. It was a creative shot to bring back memories of Ichijou's childhood, when he opened the boxes of his kid days, and saw so many stuff. It felt sweet and it hit home, reminding me of my childhood toys, books and other things.

The character of Mahiro is okay-ish, eventhough I felt awkward and was freaking out about what was he doing in Ichijou's grandma's house. Slowly, the show cleared up that Mahiro is the grocery guy and the one who taught his grandma different international recipes, so she can travel through tasting, similar to the promise she made with Ichijou. However, I still find it quite suspicious about their development in the show, but again maybe it will get better as the show proceeds.

DISLIKES

1. The Chemistry

The acting of the male leads is pretty decent, I agree. However, when it comes to the chemistry between those two, I find something's off. I don't know what it is, or how it is but I kind of find that they might be a little too stiff with one another. Okay, not that but eventhough we have just started on the show - the rapport between the leads are not in synchronicity. However, let's hope that this will improve more as the show progresses, because there's 12 episodes in total - so plenty of room to cover up with elegance.

So, eventhough there's a few flaws already coming up, I'm curious about what these actors would surprise us with next, especially with such a plotline. Eventhough I'm not very impressed initially, I'd try to watch the entire thing, unless it gets worse for any reason. But, I hope the story and their chemistry would take a nice turn, because the plot and the cinematography has a lot of potential.

Good Luck, Babe - Shara Wheeler!!! Shara heard this for the first time when it came out and dropped to her knees.

Naked In Manhattan - One Last Stop!! The most One Last Stop song to ever One Last Stop. Seriously. It’s SO them.

Casual - Alex after the lakehouse. I know you’re thinking “but the song is so Henry!! Two weeks and your mom invites me to her house in Long Beach!” but you’re wrong. Henry meant for it to be casual the whole time, and when it was clear than for Alex it wasn’t casual, he ran. It was never casual for Henry, sure, but Alex thought it was after he left the lakehouse. Also Jane when August kept insisting the kisses were purely “for research”.

HOT TO GO! - I feel like this will fit The Pairing (no I haven’t read it, but I do have read reviews)

Red Wine Supernova - August!! I mean, “she was a playboy, she showed me things I didn’t know, she did it right there, out on the deck, put her canine teeth on the side of my neck” and “fell in love with the thought of you” is SO august.

Femininomenon - Nora, Shara, and Myla would know the whole song from memory and scream it during car rides.

California - Teen Jane after running away from home to be herself, finding herself missing her sisters and her parents.

Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl - June Claremont-Diaz the super graphic ultra modern girl that you are.

Kaleidoscope - Henry before the lakehouse, thinking than Alex would eventually get tired of him and it was all just casual fun.

Die Young - Somehow, Bea (before rehab)

Coffee - Kit perhaps. Again, haven’t read the pairing, but based on reviews (containing spoilers) then…

After Midnight - Our bisexual icon, Alex (while drunk)

Guilty Pleasure - August! Also Shara (guilty cause you know)

Love Me Anyway - Both Alex and Henry!!! “When I met you at summer camp, I would never give you the chance,” Alex hating Henry after meeting him at Rio, and Henry wanting to keep distance from Alex. “Turned you down at your high school dance” Alex insisting to keep things casual and Henry leaving the lakehouse.

Good Hurt - Baby Henry with Philip’s uni friend, who he knows is not the best choice, but he’s just lonely and grieving and needs someone, anyone.

Meantime - Perhaps Liam’s pov of his situationship with Alex during high school.

Sugar High - Rory about Smith.

Bad For You - idk (and no, it is not rwrb)

The Subway - DUH august during the month she thought Jane went back to the 70s. Also Alex after the lakehouse, but mostly August.

Sirius dropped to the ground. His horse stood still as he knew he would. He may have been the hardest horse he’d ever had to tame, but it had been worth it. They had a bond so close he’d trust his boy with anything. 

He slid the reins over Grim’s head and led him to the small stream beside them. He started unbuckling the girth and removed the saddle and cloth, putting them on the ground near where he intended to light his fire. 

Grim came over to him once he’d drunk his fill and butted at Sirius’s hands until he removed his bridle. Sirius waited for Grim to drop the bit and then patted the majestic black horse on the neck with a loud thwack. The horse snorted as he wandered away to find the sweetest shoots of grass to graze on. 

Sirius walked around his makeshift campsite, picking up as many dry bits of wood as he could find. He dumped them all in a pile beside the saddle and then went scouting for dinner. 

He spotted fish swimming in the stream. He was sweating from the heat, so he decided to strip off and try his hand at fishing. 

He immersed himself in the chilly water, sighing as the day’s dust washed away in brown ribbons into the flowing water. He stood perfectly still, waiting for a fish to go by. 

It took longer than he expected. Those fish were slippery suckers. He heard Grim nicker but didn’t think anything of it. His eyes caught sight of a silvery fish heading straight for him. Just a bit closer, just a bit closer. He chanted internally. His hands wrapped around the fish in a vice-like grip and he tossed it onto the bank. At the same time, Grim screamed. 

Sirius whipped his head in his horse’s direction to see a tall slim man jumping on his back and attempting to ride him away. Unlucky for him, the only person Grim allowed to ride him was Sirius. Grim reared up, his powerful front legs cutting through the air and the man slid from his back with a hard thump. The man stayed low and covered his head as Grim’s back legs kicked out. Sirius watched the man quickly roll away from the steel-clad hooves. One kick from one of those and he’d never get up again. 

Sirius sauntered over to the would-be horse thief and put his hands on his hips, only then realising he was completely bare. Oh well, might shock the idiot into thinking again before he tried to steal another man’s horse. 

“And just what do you think you are doing?” He asked, Grim, coming to stand behind him, his head resting on Sirius’s shoulder, snorting unhappily. Sirius reached up and stroked the disgruntled stallion’s mane. 

The man sat up, keeping a wary eye on Grim. Sirius took in his battered form and his ragged clothes. 

“Sorry,” The man apologised, brushing his unkempt hair out of his face. “I thought you were one of the men who captured me, but I can see now that you’re not. Please accept my apologies, I was only trying to get far enough away that they wouldn’t bother trying to find me.” He looked so pitiful that Sirius took pity on him. Not something he did lightly. 

“Why were you captured? What did you do?” Sirius asked, trying to get a better idea of what kind of man he was. 

“My father owed a debt to a bandit by the name of Fenrir Greyback, and he took me as payment. I’ve been with them for three months. I finally managed to get away when they were ambushed by another gang, but I’m sure they’re hot on my trail.” He dropped his head. “I can’t go back to them, I just can’t.” Sirius fought against himself and groaned as he realised he couldn’t leave this man behind. 

“I’m Sirius, Sirius Black and this here is Grim. He’s the fastest horse in the State. We’ll soon put some distance between us and those bandits of yours, even with the extra weight. What do you say, Grim, up for a bit more riding before the sun sets?” Grim whinnied in answer and Sirius offered his hand to the man on the floor. The man took it and let Sirius help him to his feet. 

“My name is Remus Lupin.” Remus told him, still eyeing Grim. “I’m sorry for trying to steal you, Grim, I promise I won’t do it again.” Grim nickered. He approached Remus and snorted at him when he didn’t raise his hand to pet him. When Remus got what he wanted, he tentatively stroked down his long nose, patting him gently. 

“I think he likes you, Remus. Could you keep an eye on him while I get packed up and we'll go?” Remus nodded, not looking away from the horse. 

Sirius dressed quickly, he’d spotted a dust cloud in the distance and was afraid it was made by numerous horses thundering towards them. He collected the fish he caught and the firewood he’d collected and stored it in his saddlebags. They might need it depending on where they settled in for the night.

He tacked up Grim and hoisted himself into the saddle. Grim pawed at the ground, eager to be off again. Sirius leant over and helped Remus onto Grim’s back, seating him in front of him.

“Now, lean forward, Remus, we’re going to go fast.” He wrapped his free arm around Remus's waist and kicked Grim on. Grim threw his head back and charged forward. His hooves barely made contact with the ground he galloped so fast. They’d lose those thugs in no time.

I'm not sure where exactly I am going with this yet but I want to write a janto fic in which, due to the effect of something alien or other, Ianto is banned from having sex for a 1-3 month period lest he die.

And set it in early season 2, when Jack just came back and they have sorted of started to go on proper dates but everything they've done has always ended up with them shagging.

Like take away their primary love language at a point in time where this budding thing between them is so tentative and new and see where they go from there, you know what I mean?
