Endeavor secretly into (literally, in, lol) Natsuo’s girlfriend👀👀
a/n: this is my favorite request so far, thank you! so sorry this took so long haha, i’m horrible at being punctual, but i’m doing a bit better! this is my longest fic 😭
Tumblr media
┆ ☆ synopsis: natsuo always complained about his father, making him out to be such a bad person. when you finally meet him, you are mutually captivated.
↳ ♡₊˚. warnings: cheating, older man/younger girl, female reader, endeavor is a really bad father, choking if you squint, he destroys the necklace natsuo bought you, possessive enji
your boyfriend of 8 months still hasn’t introduced you to his family. initially, you had started to think that natsuo simply wasn’t serious about you. when you confronted him, though, he relented and told you he would introduce you to them.
a few days later, natsuo told you the plans. the two of you were to come over for dinner at the todoroki residence, and a movie in their living room after.
you were very excited the day of, purchasing a new formal but cute outfit for yourself that could show parts of your personality. as you got ready, natsuo was sitting on your bed and scrolling through his phone.
"are you sure i look okay, natsu?" you asked your partner.
"yeah, i'm sure. it's not that big of a deal anyways, my opinion on you won't change no matter what my stupid father thinks." he replies. ah. right. his father.
enji todoroki was seemingly the source of all of natuso's problems and anger. your boyfriend was usually very cheery, but when he was upset, 9 times out of 10 it was about his father.
you were still trying to head in with a bright smile, so you were opting to forget about the nasty (but small) pieces of information natsuo had given you about his father.
even if you hadn't heard bad things from your boyfriend, meeting the #2 is a nerve-wracking experience, especially meeting him as enji todoroki, and not endeavor.
unfortunately for you, you'll be meeting every other sibling for the first time as well. the only sibling he talks about is his deceased brother, touya todoroki.
you know their names, but not much more.
quickly looking at the clock, you noticed you only had a few more minutes before you had to go. you slipped on your favorite earrings, ready to go.
you turned to find natsuo up and next to you, with a small box in his hand. you looked up at him, smiling.
"is this for me?" you asked, your smile wide.
"of course. take it." he told you, holding the box out to you.
you grabbed it and gently opened it, revealing a beautiful silver necklace with his initial "N" in a cursive font as the pendant.
you gasped and hugged him, saying, "i love it! thank you!"
he hugged you back and pat your head before asking, "do you want me to put it on?"
"yes please!" you replied, as he put it around your neck and clasped it tight before letting it fall. it fit perfectly, and it was beautiful.
you thanked him again and gave him a kiss on the cheek. natsuo was always sweet, and he was handsome. especially in his cargo pants and his white button up, his hair brushed and looking nice.
"alright, let's get going. we don't want to be late. god knows my hardass of a dad won't let me hear the end of it."
fighting the urge to roll your eyes, you allow natsuo to guide you to the car and into the passenger seat.
~
arriving at the todoroki household was a bit of an ordeal. his siblings flooded you at the entrance and began asking many questions before you could even step in.
in the midst of a question the youngest todoroki was asking you, a gruff voice interrupted.
“enough. let her enter the house. it’s impolite to keep a young lady waiting on the doorstep.”
with that, you were ushered in by fuyumi. several feet away from the doorway was enji todoroki. bowing your head to be polite, he gave a small smirk at your manners.
in truth, enji believed that natsuo would have brought home an ill-mannered, clumsy woman to spite him.
he watched out of the corner of his eye as you took your shoes off to neatly place them by the doorway, and how you politely followed fuyumi to the living room, and then the dining room.
your soft smiles and small nods to show you were listening to the siblings captivated him in a way he couldn’t yet understand.
~
after a small tour of the house, everyone sat down in the dining room. fuyumi, with the help of shoto, created a beautiful spread of food. you lightly fidgeted with the hem of your dress as you all waited for enji to enter, and natsuo cupped your cheek and smiled at you to reassure you.
natsuo was very happy that everything was going well, and was secretly proud that his father hadn’t told him off for choosing an insufficient partner.
unfortunately for him, his father didn’t only approve of you, but he wanted you for himself.
walking into the room with his back straight, enji caught sight of his son’s hand on you, and felt a surge of anger go through him.
natsuo, catching sight of his father, put his hand down by his side.
enji sat, and after words of appreciation for fuyumi and shoto were shared, everyone began to eat.
as he eyed you, enji also began to feel guilty. he was trying to work on being a better father, but now he’s catching himself watching his son’s girlfriend? there had to be something wrong with him. but was it really his fault that you were so beautiful? truly, you were the most gorgeous person he had ever seen.
as he thought longer, his guilt began to abate. natsuo was always his least favorite child. always having to be right, always trying to one-up him in every argument, always acting high and mighty, even when he was trying to improve.
enji stopped his train of thought there, before he did anything drastic.
~
dinner went well, with everyone sharing a few laughs and overall having a good time. you were pleased that natsuo’s father had engaged in polite conversation about your career with you, sharing some of his wisdom and praising you for being a hardworker, even if what you wanted to do wasn’t deemed the most “important” by society.
his praise made you blush deeply even thinking back at it. the way his eyes changed and his mouth curved up to form a small smile. he held so much power, it was almost suffocating, but it was also like being engulfed in a sweet warmth, in safety.
he even considered you to be on his level, telling you that honorifics weren’t necessary. “enji,” he told you to call him when everyone else had stepped out of the room to bring in the dessert trays.
you couldn’t help imagining what it would be like to be with him - but you tried to stop yourself before you got too far ahead. he was your boyfriend’s father, a hero for god’s sake, he probably had bigger prospects than you.
you and natsuo began giving your goodbyes, putting your shoes back on, and walking out of the door. before you could make it out, though, you caught enji’s eyes. the look he gave you this time was different than all the others, filled with want, with need.
you smiled at him, letting your eyes close for a moment to give him a genuine smile. it melted his heart. why were you so perfect?
your brief shared moment was interrupted by natsuo guiding you out by your shoulder, the two of you walking down the pathway to his car.
his family stood on the doorstep, fuyumi and shoto waving you off with enji behind them. natsuo let his hand fall from your shoulder to your hips, wrapping his arm tightly around you to bring you closer. enji almost growled at the display. did he know how his father felt about his girlfriend? was he trying to display dominance?
enji shook his head and turned to walk back into the house, glad the long night was over, but secretly wishing you would’ve stayed.
~
in the car ride back, natsuo vented his frustrations.
“god, he’s such an ass. did you see the way he was staring at you? what’s his fucking problem?”
you stared out the window, not interested in his rant after a nice night. his father hadn’t said or done anything, so what was the problem? but natsuo’s next sentence caught you off guard.
“i bet he wants to fuck you. he’s such an old pervert.”
you flushed, stammering out, “w-what?”
it was unlike natsuo to use vulgar language like that, especially when it came to sex. he was usually attempting to use romantic, flowery language.
“i’m serious,” he said, “he was practically eye-fucking you. let’s never do that again, i don’t want you around him.”
you frowned, thinking about the good time you had with his family, but agreed to make natsuo happy. when it came to his father, you knew better not to push.
~
your time seeing enji todoroki again came much sooner than you thought.
natsuo had asked you, very dejectedly, to stop by his childhood home to collect the jacket he left there, only a week after the dinner night. he only asked because he was caught up with exams, and he thought fuyumi would be there.
she wasn’t.
you nervously walked up to the todoroki household, wearing a casual outfit with the necklace natsuo had bought you.
knocking on the door, you were greeted by enji himself, the man you were most nervous to see.
he wore a black t shirt with gray sweatpants, the infamous combination. you caught yourself staring a bit too long, and he smirked at the way you looked away shyly.
you explained in a small voice that you were here to collect natsuo’s jacket, and enji invited you in to wait in the living room while he tried to find it.
sitting on the couch, you were looking around the living room when he came back into the room.
“i couldn’t find it. he’s sure he left it here?” he spoke.
“yes, he said he was sure. he was nervous about letting me come back here, so he must’ve been confident it was here.”
you paled when you realized what you said. you just admitted to natsuo’s father that he didn’t want you coming back. fuck.
“oh?” he said, beginning to smile, “my son didn’t want you coming back? why would that be? i was sure we had a nice time.”
as he said this, he sat closely next to you, his hand next to your thigh.
his proximity made your nervous, and you decided to be honest.
“natsuo was, um, nervous that you
”
“that i?” he asked, leaning over to you.
“w-wanted, uh, to
do something? to me? i know it sounds really stupid, he’s just-“
“he was right.” enji finally said, and reached to hold your face as he started to kiss you.
you kissed back, passionately. you should’ve felt guilty, but, honestly, you weren’t even thinking about natsuo.
enji put his hand on your thigh, your soft skin exposed by the shorts you were wearing. he kneaded softly at your flesh as his tongue circled around yours.
you whimpered at the contact, his warm hands sent a tingling feeling to your lower half. your hands shot up to hold his head closer to yours.
as he kissed you, his large hands cupped your ass and lifted you up and onto his lap.
your pussy was sat right on top of his cock, which you felt throb, your thin shorts and underwear not doing much to protect you.
you felt yourself become needy, and you began to grind on his cock as the two of you kissed. he groaned into your kiss.
his hands released your ass to hold your chest softly, a contrast from his roughness when picking you up earlier. he didn’t want to hurt you.
appreciating his care, you pulled back from him to begin to take off your shirt, natsuo’s initial around your neck falling down to lay between the valley of your breasts. when you were left with only your bra, he beat you to unhooking it and tossing it on the floor.
“fuck. you’re gorgeous,” he groaned as he leaned forward to kiss and suck on your tits. his tongue lapped at your nipples, and you shivered from the contact. your hands held his hair, tracing small circles on his scalp.
when he pulled away, he pushed you back softly to lay down on the couch, the fabric softening your small fall. as you laid back, enji pushed your legs up and open, pulling off your shorts and ripping off your underwear out of impatience.
he came up to meet you face to face. his face only several inches away from yours. he slipped two fingers into your cunt, savoring the way you clenched and whimpered. he brought his face down to kiss your neck as he fingered you.
he almost came on the spot when you moaned his name, the syllables sounding so sweet when it came from your mouth.
enji pulled his fingers from you, and you pouted from the loss, but he ignored your pouts as he pulled his cock out and positioned it near your entrance, the swollen tip pushing into you.
his length was almost too much to handle, and his cock was thick and veiny. every ridge made you squirm as he slid into you.
once he was inside of you, he started fucking into you hard, pushing his cock all the way in with every stroke. his balls meeting your ass to create a lewd slapping sound.
he met your eyes to savor the faces you made, looking down to watch the way your tits bounced as he fucked you when he saw natsuo’s initial on your chest.
he reacted before he could think, his strong hand coming up to grab the necklace, the muscles in his arm flexing as he ripped it off of you, the chain shattering under his grip. he threw it across the room and kissed you, trying to stake his claim.
you felt your first wave of guilt, but you were distracted almost immediately by the flame hero circling your clit with his thumb.
you moaned out, and he smiled at you.
you were both approaching climax, and he knew it. he was determined to make you cum first, he grabbed your legs and spread them and held them up, your ankles hooking around your head as he pistoned in and out of your cunt.
your back began to arch, and enji brought a hand down to play with your clit again.
“hnghh, enji! fuck!” you screamed as you came around his cock, your fluids coating the base of his cock.
your squeezing brought him over the edge as well, cumming right next to your womb, continuing to thrust as you both rode out your highs.
he pulled out slowly, taking care not to hurt you as his cock began to soften. he pet your head. pushing loose strands of hair out of your face.
“are you okay?” he asked
“yeah, thank you.” you replied.
“let’s get you cleaned up. can you stand?”
you flushed again, “no, p-probably not
”
enji smiled, picking you up bridal style and carrying you to the bathroom.
~
unbeknownst to either of you, your phone was blowing up with notifications on the coffee table. they read:
natsuo ❀: i found my jacket babe. sorry! you can come back.
natsuo ❀: babe? are you okay? i said i found my jacket.
natsuo ❀: ??? what are you doing?
natsuo ❀: please reply

Why Stella should not have been rebranded as the Fairy of the Shining Sun
Tumblr media
After nearly a year, I have finally decided to write a second part to my previous post in which I said I was not a fan of the writers rebranding Stella as the Fairy of the Shining Sun.
To start, let's first take a look at her family background. Her parents are the King and Queen of Solaria—the proverbial sun and the moon. It is apparent from their distinct color palettes and the origins of their names that they represent the sun and the moon. Stella, with her original title as the Fairy of the Sun and the Moon, naturally has qualities and powers from both her parents. To take away her moon powers would be a disservice to her character, as it means taking a piece of her identity away.
While I subscribe to the idea of her having access to solar and lunar powers, I don't mind her lunar powers being secondary to her sun powers. Here's why.
Her moon-based spells, which she rarely uses, tend to be more defensive and tamer than her sun-based spells. (3.14, 3.26) For someone like her, who is bold and daring, and prefers offensive tactics over defensive ones, it makes sense that she would lean more toward using her combative solar powers. (1.21) It's what comes naturally to her.
Her relationship with her father, despite the neglectful behavior of both her parents, appears affectionate. (3.19) I like to think her strong connection with her father and home planet is in part why she prefers and is more in tune with using her solar powers than her lunar powers.
There is some debate over whether or not she should have a secondary power, with some suggesting that she would be too powerful if she had two powers. I disagree.
Her powers make narrative sense when you think of them from the standpoint of light rather than separate celestial bodies. In technical terms, moonlight is reflected sunlight. These two are not separate. In a way, her solar and lunar powers are essentially the same, just in different fonts.
It would be logical for her powers to be influenced by the level of light in her surroundings, allowing her to draw either from solar or lunar energy. We already know from canon that she becomes weak and powerless in the absence of sunlight. (2.04) In such situations, her lunar powers could become activated. This limits her abilities and prevents her from becoming too powerful.
Recall that one of the motifs regarding her character development is the use of mirrors. It serves as a symbol of her personal growth and self-awareness, particularly in seasons two and three. In 2.21, she earns a mirror-shaped pendant for being vulnerable and sharing her feelings of loneliness. In 3.04, she breaks her curse by realizing her beauty isn't skin deep. Every time she reflects on her life and grows as a person, there is a reflective item (the lake, the pendant) present. If we consider that the moon reflects the sun and acts like a mirror, we can interpret her mirror-based spells to have an indirect relation to her lunar abilities.
To be fair, her mirror spells could easily have a category of their own as the moon is not exactly like a mirror in its reflectivity power; the moon only reflects about 3–12% of the sunlight, while a mirror typically reflects anything between 70%–99.9%. However, based on the fact that the sun produces its light, whereas the moon and mirror do not, we can conclude that her mirror spells are more likely to fall under the moon category than the sun category.
From a narrative standpoint, it seems the writers had no idea what to do with her lunar side. It's likely why they changed her title and erased almost every trace of her lunar side, including the blue accents in her transformation outfits. It's a shame because there are so many ways they could have explored her moon powers in the later seasons, but no; instead, we get the displeasure of witnessing her turning into a toddler, putting fairy animals in silly costumes, and wearing an atrocious salad dress to the stage for everyone in the audience to mock. Which, for the record, she would absolutely never wear.

follow up to my previous thoughts about the Aguefort Adventuring Academy:
i got more right than i expected, though there's definitely a lot that's being filled in around what we knew from freshman year.
Faculty Updates:
Introduced/Mentioned during the Episode:
Interim Principal: Emergency Backup Principal Arcturus Grix
This is definitely a construct of Aguefort's that's been reprogrammed to focus on an exact impression of "adventuring order".
Interim Vice Principal: Jace Stardiamond, the sorcery professor
Artificer Professor: Henry Something? The original name on payroll was Grunding Tomblast. (mentioned only, since Porter wouldn't recommend Gorgug)
Barbarian Professor: Porter Cliffbreaker. Suspicious and rude.
Bard Professor: Lucilla Lullaby (changed from music professor). Fey/Eladrin
Bardic Dance Teacher: Terpsichore Skullcleaver. Tiniest half-orc you've ever seen, always says what you need to hear even if it isn't what you'd expect.
Cleric/Religious Studies: Yolanda Badgood. Air genasi who broke up with a deity to pursue faith.
Fighter Professor: Corsica Jones (mentioned only, though we met her in the Seven)
Wizard Professor: Tiberia Runestaff. Originated in the Mountains of Chaos, very traditional old wizard now teaching the wizards of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. Adaine desperately wants to impress her, and she gets called out for predictions.
We've gotten more information about the other professors though we already knew their names. Eugenia Shadow is the supposed rogue professor that must be found in order to get an A for the year.
Class Content:
For the Barbarians, Porter is an asshole that focuses on the destructive parts of rage rather than the protective elements.
We had a reference to Fighter classes and learning different fighting styles with Ms. Jones, though we didn't see it in this episode.
Cleric classes center around individual connection with a deity, as well as some discussion of spreading faith and proselytizing. Kristen is a very talented cleric who doesn't do homework and is struggling on her faith journey.
Rogue classes are more independent study; finding the professor is the win condition. If the class is based on self-motivated investigative work and research, I can understand why all of the rogues we've seen at Aguefort (Riz Gukgak, Penny Luckstone, Kipperlilly Copperkettle) are the way they are.
Bard Classes can come in a couple of different types: obviously there's the traditional class that Fig attended for the first time, as well as smaller concentrations like Fabian's dance class. The dance course seems to be a smaller track, with fewer students but a more intensive schedule. Granted, we're getting Fabian's multiclassed view of it, so it's not entirely accurate to the experience of a typical bardic dance student.
Wizard classes revolve around studying and practicing spells, as expected, but aren't taught with school endowed material components as I would have expected. Aguefort cares about a robust Wizard's education, but doesn't have classroom material components? He's making it a class of only privileged students. We can't have a poor wizard around here, can we.
Sidenote to that: we know now that Hudol places a focus on theoretical magic while Aguefort focuses on practical workings--actually practicing the skills needed to bind, conjure, enchant, etc.
Sidenote to the sidenote: I started looking into higher level wizard spells with high cost items as material components:
5th level:
create spelljamming helm (5000 gp crystal rod, consumed)
dawn (100 gp sunburst pendant)
legend lore (250 gp of incense, 200 gp of ivory strips)
infernal calling (999 gp ruby)
planar binding (minimum 1000 gp jewel, consumed)
scrying (1000 gp focus, such as a crystal ball, silver mirror, or font of holy water)
summon draconic spirit (500 gp object with engraved dragon iconography)
teleportation circle (inks infused with gems worth 50 gp)
6th level:
circle of death (500 gp black pearl)
contingency (1500 gp gem encrusted statuette)
create homunculus (1000 gp jeweled dagger)
create undead (150 gp black onyx stone per corpse)
drawmij's instant summons (1000 gp sapphire)
magic jar (500 gp gem/crystal/reliquary)
7th level:
create magen (500 gp quicksilver and human sized doll)
draconic transformation (500 gp dragon statuette)
forcecage (1500 gp ruby dust)
mordenkainen's sword (250 gp platinum sword)
plane shift (250 gp rod attuned to plane of choice)
sequester (5000 gp of diamond, emerald, ruby & sapphire dust)
simulacrum (1500 gp ruby dust)
symbol (1000 gp of mercury, phosphorus, diamond dust and opal)
8th level:
clone (1000 gp diamond, 2000 gp coffin/urn, cubic inch of flesh)
mighty fortress (500 gp diamond)
9th level:
astral projection (1000 gp jacinth + 100 gp carved bar of silver, per person affected)
gate (5000 gp diamond)
imprisonment (500 gp component per hit die of the target, changes depending on spell type: mithral orb for burial, precious metal chain for chaining, miniature jade prison for hedged prison, gemstone of corundum or diamond for minimus containment)
invulnerability (500 gp adamantine)
shapechange (1500 gp jade circlet)
so the request for 10 barrels of diamonds tracks; they need enough material components to be able to repeat the spells and practice them and that doesn't run cheap.
personal theory: when aguefort went to war with fallinel he pulled on the school's supplies of material components in order to cast on that scale, and he couldn't maintain it, so even stuff that wouldn't be consumed by the casting probably got dumped somewhere in fallinel or given away as reparations.
I'm also going to guess that in the lower grades, the students wouldn't be paying for everything, but rather paying something like a lab fee that took care of material components on a smaller scale.
Multiclassing:
There's a few things that have that this episode clarified:
If a student wants to multiclass on their transcript, they must fill out a request to their current class' professor in order to request a change to their courseload. The student may be prevented from attending their secondary or tertiary courses if their current professor believes that they cannot keep up with the increase in rigor, or if the student is underperforming in their current class. As shown with Porter, a teacher can technically refuse for other reasons (thinking the student isn't suited to the new class, or determining a lack of class compatibility). This recommendation is easier for some classes than others; it is simple to combine most martial classes, especially those that have compatible traits such as fighters and barbarians. However, it is difficult to combine classes that are prohibitive of each other; the example we have is Gorgug, since his barbarian rage prevents him from casting and holding concentration spells from his artificer levels in battle.
If they get approval, they must take the MCAT, or Multiclass Achievement Test, in order to prove competency in their secondary class. This functions as a way of proving that the student can enter the class at their current level and keep up with their peers.
Upon passing the MCAT, the student's courseload changes; rather than taking 4 semesters of one class, they will take 3 semesters of each class, presumably with some leveling to fit their particular split in multiclass. This results in a 150% courseload as opposed to single-classed students, with a high level of rigor, especially heading into the upperclassmen years
Quest Theory:
We got tacit confirmation from Brennan that the Bad Kids, and even the Seven are unusual for saving the world, when most Aguefort students are doing local dungeon crawls and going to school. This fits with my overleveling theory, especially if they're going to be going back to a major progression cycle as they did during freshman year. I highly doubt it, given the content and themes of this season, but I think the overall structure fits.
This also fits with my theory about D-F class quests; students may only need to complete one or more of these to pass the yearly quest. Technically, retrieving the Crown of the Nightmare King could have been considered a fetch quest, but there ended up being more to it than that. The Bad Kids haven't done traditional dungeon crawls, at least not from what we've seen. There are qualified adventuring parties in Spyre, but the Aguefort Adventuring Academy produces the 'premier parties of teen heroes' that go around addressing world-class threats.
The examples that we have of Solisian adventurers come from the Bad Kids' parents, and the Seven's parents. Sandra Lynn works with the Solisian rangers; the Applebees' (ew) work as paladins, guarding against threats from the Mountains of Chaos, presumably in tandem with the rangers. Karl Cleaver stayed with his party for decades--they went on a dungeon crawl in the 888th and 889th layers of the Abyss during the events of the Seven. There are adult adventurers, but it's made clear that they are dealing with everyday threats, while the teen heroes are out in the world causing problems and solving them.
To add to my previous theory: the Seven were given two weeks to investigate the disappearance of Tectonya Karkovnya and go on their GED quest. The Bad Kids got an extra week of spring break. This allowed them to get their world-saving done, but may have led to the accusations of special treatment.
Theories on the Season:
I'd wager that Kipperlilly and the Ratgrinders are trying to make Aguefort more egalitarian by getting rid of the Bad Kids' quest progress i.e. the reason they're overleveled and getting special treatment. The Rogue Professor seekign Kipperlilly out as opposed to her actually doing the work? Sounds like funny business to me.
Next episode is probably going to be the rest of the day of classes and the start of extracurriculars, based on the mentions of the bloodrush team and student government candidacy.
Riz looks like he's going to be in the driver's seat for seeking out the Bad Kids' academic and greater interests, though Fig is leaning in on the investigation of the Ratgrinders, and they're all full force on the presidential campaign. I think Gorgug's work as an artificer is going to come into play with the main plot if they're facing down the reprogrammed Arcturus Grix.

Approximately 1776 words.
-
-
John Egbert exits his father's room. It had been a long time, since his birthday many years earlier. They had been on Earth C for more than three years now. It was a particularly hot day in the summer, and somehow John found himself in that previously mythologized place. With the curtains drawn, the heir laid on the floor, stretching out on the carpet. It wasn't that much cooler in here. Under the bed something glinted. John awkwardly contorted and squeezed himself under the bed and pulled out a a small, thin book.
It's a photo album, faded red with shiny gold details and lettering. In a lovely, curly font on the front, the book is titled: Family.
After looking through it a bit, John shuffles out of the room, faster than usual, and heads up the stairs. Entering his room, he finds hanging up by his desk a circular white pendant with a green spirograph embossed on it.
-
JOHN: hey, nanna?
NANNASPRITE: Hello, John!
JOHN: could you come to my house?
JOHN: i had a question about some stuff. about you.
NANNASPRITE: Oh? Well, I am flattered, but I don't know what you could want to know about me. Regardless, I'll be on my way!
-
Barely two minutes had passed before Nannasprite oozed through the kitchen door.
-
NANNASPRITE: Hoo hoo! Hello?
JOHN: in here, nanna.
-
She floats, gently aglow like neon, into the slightly darkened living room. She flips on a light switch with her disembodied harlequin hand. Her ectobiological son, her grandson, sat on the far left side of the couch, a book in his lap. Red, with shimmering gold details. He looks tired, hair a bit long, most likely unshowered, sparse facial hair populating his features.
-
NANNASPRITE: You are sitting in the dark, dearie! It's not good for your eyes to read in the dark.
-
Nannasprite floats over in front of John. His fingers feel the corners of the photo album and he's looking at it. It's open to a familiar section.
-
JOHN: ...
NANNASPRITE: I am talking to myself?
JOHN: oh, sorry nanna!
JOHN: i found this today, in my dads room. it's pretty old looking.
NANNASPRITE: It is old, at least compared to a youngin' like you! I put this photo album together when I was pregnant with your father.
JOHN: when was that?
NANNASPRITE: I got the album itself Christmas of 1953, and I started to put it together right away.
JOHN: i hadn't finished going through it.
-
John flips through the pages to the end.
-
JOHN: i don't see any pictures of my dad in here.
NANNASPRITE: There aren't any in there, and I'm afraid many of your father's childhood pictures were lost when you were born and I died. I loved to keep pictures at work.
JOHN: oh, sorry about that, nanna.
NANNASPRITE: Hoo hoo! It's not your fault, love. And there still are some pictures, you should check his study.
NANNASPRITE: Was that all you wanted to ask me?
JOHN: well, I just wanted to know who the people in here are.
-
John flips to an early page of the album. Centred in the middle of the page is a photograph of two young children and a large dog.
-
JOHN: i can tell that's jade's grandpa. and that's your dog?
NANNASPRITE: Yes, that's Halley. He was a very good dog.
-
John flips forward several pages and a few decades.
-
JOHN: who's this?
-
Nannasprite settles onto the seat next to John, and John slides the album over. Nannasprite holds the right hand side, while John holds the left.
The photograph is unlabeled like all the rest, but Nannasprite remembers everything about it. It was 1936, Nanna was still Jane Crocker, and she is standing with her arm over the shoulder of a woman. The two were on a beach, a sandy hill with tufts of marsh grass rises behind them. Jane has her hair cut very short, no fluffiness or thickness to it. She's wearing an old style swimsuit, boxy striped shorts with a neat string strap top, conservative by today's standards. They were emerald green and white, Nannasprite remembered. She was holding her glasses in her free hand.
Her companion is also attired for swimming. She is wearing a one piece, covering the very top of her legs, with wider straps and a v shaped collar. She is wearing a round, white sunhat, and her wavy hair just brushes the top of her shoulders. It's mousy and if the photograph was in colour, it would be dark blonde. She's holding onto Jane's hand over her shoulder, while with her other hand she's pulling Jane closer to her around her hip.
-
JOHN: nanna?
NANNASPRITE: That is your father's aunt. The sister of his father.
JOHN: i didn't know i had a great-aunt. what's her name?
-
Nannasprite places a hand on the bottom of the page. It was so long ago.
-
NANNASPRITE: She didn't like her name. She said 'no looker was ever named Paula.' Of course, that's not true, but she insisted that we not call her that.
JOHN: great-aunt paula. well, it does sound like an old lady name. no offense, nanna.
NANNASPRITE: HOO HOO! John, I am old. And being a sprite, I'm only going to get older.
JOHN: what did you call her if you couldn't call her 'paula'?
-
She remembered that day the picture was taken, not the exact date, but the events of the day. They packed up early in the morning and hiked to the beach. It had been particularly hot the previous day, and they planned to take advantage of the heat and sunny weather. They took the Brownie with them, carefully wrapping the camera in an extra towel. They asked someone passing by to take a picture of them, and he obliged. After, they spent the day floating and splashing in the water. They had ice cream for lunch, and didn't get back home until the sun was close to setting. They were starved, but they were used to it. They opened all the windows to let the night air in as they ate biscuits, corned beef and pickles for dinner, close to nine o'clock at night.
Jane and Paula worked in clubs and on stage, Jane, as a comedian and performer, while Paula was a dancer and actress. They didn't often work together, instead they would watch each other. They shared a small apartment, a small kitchenette and living area, with common washrooms shared with other tenants of the building. That night they slept without any covers, just them in their nightclothes.
It wasn't until the fall that they had taken enough photographs to get the film developed with this photograph. They divided the photographs between the two of them, and this was one of the ones Jane got.
There were many more photographs, but most were with Paula, the lost flame of her youth. Some others had been lost, like those in the jokeshop when John arrived on his meteor, and Jane met her temporary end. Jane only displayed a couple of the photos she had, ones where the two of them appeared simply as dear acquaintances. But she wasn't called Paula...
-
NANNASPRITE: John, she was called John.
JOHN: what?
JOHNL wait, really??
NANNASPRITE: HOO HOO HOO! No, you silly goose. I got you! Hoo!
NANNASPRITE: ...
NANNASPRITE: She liked to be called January.
JOHN: like, the month?
NANNASPRITE: Yes, it was her birth month.
NANNASPRITE: It was also very unconventional. 'No looker' might've been called 'Paula', but there certainly were no lookers called January, because no one used that as a name.
JOHN: it is a bit strange.
NANNASPRITE: It was a lot more strange in the thirties.
JOHN: that's when this is from?
NANNASPRITE: Summer of '36.
-
Nannasprite took a last glance at the faces in the photograph and then tenderly turned the page.
-
NANNASPRITE: Now, in this picture....
-
-
John and Nannasprite spent the rest of the day visiting. It had been a while since the two of them had. From his doomed timeline, only he, Roxy, and Nannasprite remained. Now there were two, but the alpha timeline Nannasprite had lost her John many years before, and was closer with Jade because of it.
Nannasprite adds tantalizing hints about the past, about John's dad's dad, about Betty Crocker, about life all the way through the 1910s to 1990s. She wouldn't go into detail, changing the subject, throwing in some jokes, redirecting the conversation. She skirted around great-aunt Paula, January, the most.
She prepared a homecooked meal for John, schnitzel and casear salad, she had John help her make some simple apple muffins for breakfast.
It was a lovely day, it left John feeling recharged. That evening, he got out his razor and shaving cream, and trimmed down the hairs on his face and neck. After rinsing, he rubs his hands over his face, hands still catching
He settles into bed, window open to let the night breeze blow in. The unfamiliar stars of this new universe sparkle in the sky. His thoughts drift back to the pictures in the photo album. Pictures of Nanna as a child, a young woman, a marriage portrait with a man who looked very similar to his dad. And those couple of photographs of his previously unknown great-aunt. January.
John imagines that It must have been even more unusual back then to use 'January' are a personal name. In modern times there were people with months as names, but only a few.
January sounds like a huge mouthful, John thought. Something with one syllable might flow easier. There weren't many single syllable months though, in English at least.
March, sounds a bit rough. May, probably the most common name, nice, but not for me.
John's looks out the window, the glow of distant city lights present on the horizon.
That only leaves...
"June." John breathes silently. It's a little bit old fashioned, but it's certainly not over used. Not a mouthful like 'January'
Nannasprite floats unseen in the open bedroom doorway. She gently runs her hand over the scruffy hair of her grandchild. She smiles, giving a gentle pat on the arm. Something was bothering her grandchild more than usual, but she would be ready to talk when John was ready. She hangs the sprite pendant from a peg near the desk, and silently floats out and down the stairs, waiting until morning to spend more time with her ectobiological child, her grandchild.
That night, in her own mind at least, Jane would spend some time with January. The jokes, the antics, the dancing, the holding, the loving, quietly, the two of them.

Browsing "Elizabeth" necklaces on Amazon:
CoolJewelry stainless steel, with heart
Turandoss, gold-plated
MOMOL, gold-plated stainless steel
hahaha, gold? stainless steel? not clear
XUAN XUN, silver with swoop and heart
SANNYRA, silver on blue card
Def want silver, but some of the fonts could only be found in gold. (There's only so much browsing I can take before I go mad.) I'd go for a pewter if it was available; I prefer the oxidized silver look.
More discussion under the cut:
I am so damn picky when it comes to how I want the letters to look. Then again, it reflects how I prefer to write my name.
#4 and #5 are the same font. I don't like the swoop, but sans-swoop was only in gold. #5 is only there to show what the silver version looks like. Wish the L had a loop and the front-edge of the z was curved, like in the other examples.
#3 looks like a bold version of #2. The kerning between the E and lower-case L bugs me on both of those. Same with #1 but certainly less-so.
#6 is last on my preferences, because I want a looping Z. The chunky style reminds me of some pewter pendants my mom got from Sweden.
Guess it boils down to #1 and #6 being the two I like most. If 2+3 came in silver, then the order would be 1-2-3-6. The chains for each of those listings is right, too.

[1-10] [11-20] [21-30] [31-40] [41-50]
2. Favorite and/or comfort character (Personnage favoris et/ou qui me réconforte)
3. Your own headcanon (Mon propre headcanon)
6. Name a ship(s) you like (Ships que j'aime)
7. Name a ship(s) you don’t like (Ships que j'aime pas)
8. Your favorite egg & why? (Oeuf préféré, et pourquoi?)
Pomme, parce que c'est la meilleure. Tout simplement. (< propos pas du tout biaisés)
9. Which egg would you bring back?
10. How many povs do you watch?

Five weeks in a balloon, by Jules Verne
Tumblr media
Doctor Samuel Fergusson, brilliant explorer renowned across all of England, has decided on his next undertaking: to cross Africa from East to West in a hot air balloon. To assist him in his new adventure, his faithful servant Joe as well as his old friend Dick, a Scottish hunter, will accompany him. Five turbulent weeks will ensue, on board the aerostat designed by doctor Fergusson.
I'm gonna start by saying that this book is not at all for everyone. It was written in 1863, an entirety different time, and takes place in Africa. So of course the descriptions of the various people that doctor Fergusson and his companions encounter are extremely racist and stereotyped. Sometimes it made me sick. But Jules Verne wrote this book in another time, when it was held as truth that black people were inferior to white people and that the African continent was full of stupid and cannibalistic savages. So don't read this book if you don't want to read this kind of thing, but don't go boycotting Jules Verne because he lived in a different time. He's dead and his works are in the public domain, anyways (and he's still one of the founding fathers of science fiction).
Now, for my review:
It was pretty slow to start, there are a lot of pages where the narrator lists names and where doctor Fergusson describes in details how his hot air balloon works. Once they're in Africa and up in the air, it's a little faster and it's nicer to read (in spite of the racist passages that made me grit my teeth). Jules Verne has a very peculiar sense of humor that made me chuckle in my scarf during my subway rides.
It really wasn't my favorite Jules Verne out of the four I've read (Journey to the center of the Earth, From the Earth to the Moon and The Carpathian castle being the other three), but it's nice to read. It's Jules Verne, y'know.
French version under the cut
Parfois ça m'a mĂȘme Ă©cƓurĂ©e.

The description of the Roman onlookers is rather more picturesque in Buss’s translation than in the older translation:
... about fifty little vagabonds from the Papal States, who earned a pittance by diving into the Tiber at high water from the bridge of St. Angelo.
... some fifty idlers from the Papal States, of the sort who make rings in the water by spitting into the Tiber from the Ponte Sant’ Angelo, when there is water in the river.
During the conversation between Peppino and the bank clerk, the older translation skips part of their discussion of the Russian traveller who didn’t have as much money as expected:
“You must have searched badly.” “Luigi Vampa himself searched.”
“You probably didn’t look hard enough.” “Luigi Vampa did the search in person.” “In that case, either he had paid his debts...” “A Russian?” “Or spent the money.” “I suppose that’s possible.”
And also part of their reaction to the amount Danglars has:
—C’est bien lui... Cinq millions. Une jolie somme hein, Peppino? —Oui. —Chut! Voici notre homme.»
“Yes, it is indeed he. Five millions—a pretty sum, eh, Peppino?” “Hush—here is our man!”
“It’s him all right. Five million... A fine sum, eh, Peppino?” “Yes.” “We’ll never have as much for ourselves.” “At least we’ll get some crumbs of it,” Peppino said philosophically. “Hush! Here he comes.”
Danglars, when he realises he’s in trouble:
His eyes acquired that quality which in the first moment of strong emotion enables them to see distinctly, and which afterwards fails from being too much taxed. Before we are alarmed, we see correctly; when we are alarmed, we see double; and when we have been alarmed, we see nothing but trouble.
In the darkness his eyes took on that degree of acuity that strong emotions tend to give them at first, only for the effect to be reversed later through overuse. Berfore one is afraid, one sees clearly; while one is afraid, one sees double; and after being afraid, one sees dimly.
The older translation is continuing to trim out religious references, with this being one of the larger elisions:
A bed of dried grass covered with goat–skins was placed in one corner. Danglars brightened up on beholding it, fancying that it gave some promise of safety. “Oh, God be praised,” he said; “it is a real bed!”
A bed of dry grass, covered with goatskins, was not standing, but spread out in a corner of this cell. Seeing it, Danglars thought he saw the glowing symbol of his salvation. “Oh, God be praised!” he murmured. “It’s a real bed!” This was the second time in the last hour that he had called on the name of God, something that had not happened to him for ten years.

{FRENCH} Secundo (Papa II) x Gn!Reader
Tumblr media
Demande : Non
Genre : Neutre
Depuis trois mois, tu as commencĂ© Ă  apprendre des rumeurs Ă  ton sujet.
"- Allons chercher notre repas, veux-tu?"

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Children Necklace
When it comes to adorning your little ones with jewelry, a children's necklace is more than just an accessory; it symbolizes love, care, and the desire to create cherished memories. Whether you're looking for a special gift or something to mark a significant milestone, finding the perfect necklace for your child requires careful consideration. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about choosing the ideal children necklace, with a focus on the timeless elegance of kids gold necklaces.
1. Understanding the Importance of a Children Necklace
A children necklace is not just a piece of jewelry; it's a token of affection that can hold sentimental value for years to come. Many parents choose necklaces to celebrate birthdays, religious ceremonies, or other significant events in a child's life. These necklaces often become cherished keepsakes, passed down through generations.
Why Gold is a Popular Choice for Kids Necklaces
Gold has always been a preferred material for children's jewelry due to its durability, hypoallergenic properties, and timeless appeal. A kids gold necklace can withstand the rough and tumble of everyday activities while retaining its luster and charm. Moreover, gold's non-reactive nature makes it safe for sensitive skin, ensuring your child can wear it comfortably.
2. Types of Children Necklaces
When selecting a necklace for your child, the options are vast. Here are some popular types to consider:
a. Name Necklaces
Personalized name necklaces are a favorite among parents. These necklaces can be customized with your child's name, initials, or even a special date. Available in various fonts and styles, a gold name necklace adds a personal touch to your child's accessory collection.
b. Charm Necklaces
Charm necklaces allow you to add small pendants or trinkets to a simple gold chain. These charms can represent anything meaningful, such as a heart, star, or even your child's favorite animal. As your child grows, you can add more charms, making it a necklace that evolves with them.
c. Pendant Necklaces
A classic choice, pendant necklaces feature a central charm or locket. A kids gold necklace with a simple cross, heart, or other meaningful symbol can make a perfect gift for religious occasions or birthdays.
d. Beaded Necklaces
While not as traditional, beaded necklaces are colorful and fun. However, it's essential to ensure that the beads are securely attached and that the necklace is made from child-safe materials. Gold-accented beads can add a touch of elegance to a playful design.
3. Factors to Consider When Buying a Children Necklace
Choosing the right children necklace involves more than just picking a pretty design. Here are some crucial factors to keep in mind:
a. Safety
Safety should be your top priority when selecting jewelry for a child. Ensure that the necklace is free of sharp edges, loose parts, or any elements that could pose a choking hazard. Opt for necklaces with a breakaway clasp that will release if pulled too hard, preventing accidents.
b. Size and Fit
The necklace's length should be appropriate for your child's age and size. Typically, a 14-16 inch necklace works well for children. It's also essential to choose a necklace that isn't too tight around the neck or too long, where it might get caught on objects or pose a strangulation risk.
c. Material Quality
When choosing a kids gold necklace, consider the gold's karat value. 14K gold is a popular choice as it offers a good balance of durability and purity. Ensure the necklace is free from lead, nickel, and other harmful materials that could irritate your child's skin.
d. Design and Style
Children's preferences can vary, so involving them in the selection process can be a fun experience. Choose a design that reflects their personality and interests, whether it's a simple pendant or a more elaborate charm necklace.
4. Caring for a Kids Gold Necklace
To ensure the longevity of your child's gold necklace, proper care is essential. Here are some tips:
a. Regular Cleaning
Gold necklaces can tarnish over time, especially when exposed to sweat, oils, and other environmental factors. Regularly clean the necklace with a soft cloth and mild soap to maintain its shine.
b. Storage
When not in use, store the necklace in a soft pouch or jewelry box to prevent it from getting scratched or tangled. Keeping it in a cool, dry place will also protect it from tarnishing.
c. Avoiding Exposure to Chemicals
Gold can be sensitive to certain chemicals, including those found in household cleaning products and swimming pools. Make sure your child removes their necklace before swimming or engaging in activities that involve exposure to chemicals.
5. Popular Kids Gold Necklace Designs
If you're looking for inspiration, here are some popular kids gold necklace designs that are both stylish and meaningful:
a. Heart Pendant Necklace
A heart-shaped pendant is a classic and timeless choice for a children's necklace. It symbolizes love and can be worn for any occasion, making it a versatile piece of jewelry.
b. Animal Charms
For animal lovers, a gold necklace with an animal charm, such as a butterfly, elephant, or bird, can be an exciting and cherished piece. These designs add a playful touch while still being elegant.
c. Religious Symbols
Necklaces with religious symbols, such as a cross or a Star of David, are often chosen for religious ceremonies like baptisms or first communions. These necklaces carry significant meaning and can be a constant reminder of faith.
d. Birthstone Necklaces
A gold necklace featuring your child's birthstone can be a personalized and meaningful gift. The gemstone adds a pop of color to the gold chain, making it a standout piece.
6. Occasions to Gift a Children Necklace
A children necklace makes a thoughtful gift for various occasions:
a. Birthdays
Celebrate your child's special day with a personalized gold necklace. Whether it's their name, birthstone, or a charm that represents their interests, a necklace is a gift that will be treasured for years.
b. Religious Ceremonies
Religious milestones, such as baptisms, christenings, and first communions, are perfect occasions to gift a meaningful necklace. A cross or other religious symbol on a gold chain makes for a traditional and heartfelt gift.
c. Holidays
Holidays like Christmas and Easter are also ideal times to present a kids gold necklace. The festive season is all about giving, and a beautiful necklace can make the celebrations even more memorable.
d. Milestones and Achievements
Marking milestones such as the first day of school, a recital, or a significant achievement with a special necklace can boost your child's confidence and serve as a reminder of their accomplishments.
7. Where to Buy a Children Necklace
When purchasing a children necklace, it's essential to buy from reputable jewelers who specialize in children's jewelry. Look for stores that offer a wide selection of kids gold necklaces and have a strong reputation for quality and customer service. Online retailers can also be a great option, but ensure they provide detailed product descriptions, clear images, and a fair return policy.
8. Conclusion: Making the Right Choice
A children necklace is more than just an accessory; it's a meaningful piece of jewelry that can carry sentimental value throughout your child's life. Whether you're looking for a simple kids gold necklace or something more elaborate, the key is to choose a design that reflects your child's personality and stands the test of time. By considering factors like safety, material quality, and style, you can select the perfect necklace that your child will cherish for years to come.
Remember, the right necklace can become a beloved keepsake, a symbol of love, and a piece of jewelry that your child may one day pass down to their own children. Choose wisely, and you'll be creating memories that last a lifetime.

Timeless Elegance: The Art of Custom Engraved Jewelry Design
In an age where individuality and personal expression are celebrated, custom engraved jewelry has become a cherished way to capture memories, celebrate milestones, and convey sentiments. The artistry involved in creating custom engraved jewelry design combines craftsmanship with personal meaning, resulting in pieces that are not only beautiful but also deeply significant.
Tumblr media
The Appeal of Custom Engraved Jewelry
Custom engraved jewelry stands out for its unique ability to tell a personal story. Whether it's a date, a name, a quote, or a symbol, engraving transforms a simple piece of jewelry into a timeless keepsake. This personal touch makes engraved jewelry ideal for gifts, as it shows thoughtfulness and effort in selecting a piece that reflects the recipient's personality or significant life events.
The allure of custom engraved jewelry lies in its exclusivity. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, created specifically for the wearer. This level of personalization is something mass-produced jewelry cannot offer, making custom pieces a prized possession for those who value originality and meaning in their accessories.
The Craftsmanship Behind Custom Engraving
Creating custom engraved jewelry requires a high level of skill and precision. Jewelers use various techniques to achieve the desired look, from traditional hand engraving to modern laser engraving. Each method has its advantages and lends a different aesthetic to the final piece.
Hand Engraving: This traditional method involves using specialized tools to carve designs into the metal by hand. It allows for intricate and detailed work, giving the piece a distinct, artisanal quality. Hand engraving is highly valued for its craftsmanship and the unique variations that come with each jeweler's touch.
Laser Engraving: This modern technique uses a laser to etch designs onto the jewelry. It offers incredible precision and consistency, making it ideal for intricate patterns and small text. Laser engraving is also versatile, allowing for the engraving of a wide range of materials, including metals, gemstones, and even wood.
Designing Your Custom Engraved Piece
The process of designing custom engraved jewelry typically begins with a consultation with a jeweler. During this meeting, you can discuss your ideas, preferences, and the significance behind the engraving. The jeweler will then create a design that reflects your vision.
When designing a custom piece, consider the following elements:
Material: Choose the metal that best suits your style and the occasion. Popular choices include gold, silver, platinum, and titanium. Each metal has its Unique Personalized Charms can affect the overall look of the engraving.
Font and Style: The font and style of the engraving play a crucial role in the piece's aesthetic. From elegant script fonts to bold block letters, the choice should complement the jewelry's design and the sentiment you wish to convey.
Placement: Decide where the engraving will be placed on the jewelry. Common locations include the inside of rings, the back of pendants, or the face of bracelets. The placement can affect the visibility and impact of the engraving.
Message: Finally, think carefully about the message or design you want to engrave. Whether it's a meaningful date, a special name, or a personal mantra, ensure it holds significance and will remain relevant over time.
The Emotional Value
Custom engraved jewelry is more than just an accessory; it's a tangible representation of memories, relationships, and personal milestones. Each piece carries a story, making it a cherished heirloom that can be passed down through generations. The emotional value of custom engraved jewelry often surpasses its material worth, as it serves as a constant reminder of the moments and people that matter most.
